Magical Girl Flesh Horror~!

Though do remember to be fair! A lot of these police are probably just ordinary people doing their jobs. Just because the leadership is corrupt doesn't mean that we should hurt the underlings.

Just for this I want to add Edible, Nutritious, and Tasty to our Kudzu. In the very long term at least once it covers the district.
"Kudzu the Meat Garden, coming soon to a district near you!"

But in all seriousness this man is now on the list of "Get Into My Stomach To Be Used For Something Useful".

With the gangs lying low, we're seeing upticks in reports of homelessness, squatting, all manner of property crime. The workhouses are never full, folks, and it's our job to ensure that those who cannot support themselves are ushered into them, not just those who choose to deviate from society.

This doesn't reassure me on them being good guys, *being homeless is a crime* is not something indicative of a good government.

Syms - We are not just the enforcement of the law as it is written. That is our job, yes, but it is not our purpose. We are the maintainers of the spirit of our glorious nation! You've seen what these people do when we are not there to restrain them

Ouch, yeah, that kind of talk? Police state, seems like.

No wonder people wants to deflect to the necromancer who seems way more tolerant.

The poor clog the streets, unwilling to put in the work for their bread, leeching off the charity of those foolish enough to aid them.

Ah, the sweet (disgusting) sound of *the poor are responsible for being poor* and other things like that, what's next? *kill the poor to stop poverty*? Because this absolutely is the kind of direction a discourse like that leads to.

No wonder the journal mentioned all the magical girls and boys fighting for the rioters, if they like to uphold true love and justice, being on the government's side doesn't seem to be the correct choice, but being against them and for the people absolutely seems to be.

With your excellent aid in crushing the symptoms of such

Funny little turn of phrase there, symptoms, not cause, because that's absolutely what's happening, they are *treating the symptoms*, they are doing jack shit against the causes and in fact are a part of them, actually helping these people requires changes at the political and societal levels, not oppressing them.

Guess I got a long term objective now, topple this awful government.

What could go wrong?

Meanwhile, in an building, one of his guards is being interrogated by an eldritch horror of love and justice.

I do not trust a corporation run workhouse to be kind to desperate homeless people who arent able to defend themselves legally or economically.

Can we actually do something to improve their lives once we get strong enough?

Probably, someone jokingly suggested making phone, but turning ourselves into phone/internet god definitely sounds like a good idea.

Act One - Part One: Magical Girl Scarlet Genesis~!
"I'm-" You pose dramatically, fanning out your tentacles in a loose approximation of your hazy memories of fanfare. "Magical Girl Scarlet Genesis~!" As you say it, you feel it settle into your Flesh, nestling into you and making itself at home - Not magically, just in the sense of your self-identity solidifying a little bit more. You like it! It feels like you. Sabrina seems somewhat more apprehensive, though, flicking her tongue out. "...Interesting statement, but you do you, kid. Not like you can get in any more trouble from that then this." She jerks a thumb at Jeremy, who is staring in mild astonishment.

"What the fuck happened to you, DONOR?" You blink. That…was not what was just said. Your mind blanked it out and substituted it with the word DONOR. Troublesome. "...Could you not say that word, please? It makes my brain go all fuzzy, and is generally bad-feeling - It's not me, though, I can tell you that. Whoever that word you just said was referring to isn't here anymore." You nod, quite definitely. You managed to figure some things out while everyone was asleep - Your brain is a copy, mostly, of your DONOR - And presumably, to some extent, you got some of her memories. That's what caused that whole episode of major panic when Jeremy showed up - It was whatever feelings your DONOR had about him flashing to the surface. You think you made the right call with Jeremy, but in the future, it may be best to take those flashes with a grain of salt - You don't know your DONOR and their life experiences, after all. Anyways, with that in mind, it's pretty clear that Jeremy wasn't here looking for you, specifically, but was looking for your DONOR, instead.

Unaware of your internal introspection, Sabrina decides to back you up. "You heard the lady - Don't use it anymore." Jeremy nod. "Yep! Yep! No problem, please put those tentacles back down, thank you-" You tilt your head, then glance at yourself. You're…oh, he's talking about your posing! You laugh, then reform yourself into a slightly more normal shape. He shivers, then continues. "Uh. Yep. So, uh…" He glances at you. "Whoever that, uh, isn't, not sure how you're walking around. And how you've, got, uh, tentacles. Last I saw that body, it was the doll of the, uh, word I'm not supposed to mention. She was one of those shadowfolk, you know?" You tilt your head, and look to Sabrina, as your guide in things you don't know about.

"Oh, Scarlet, uh, Shadowfolk are like…" She looks to Jeremy and flicks her tongue out. "They're some weird religious-cultural group. They came from the West, got integrated into the Republic - Or, well, what would become the Republic - a decade or two back. They've got this thing about the true self and the false self…Long story short, I don't know much about their like, culture, or philosophy, or whatever, but they carve or make these really elaborate dolls and puppets and sort of…do something to link themselves into it? I don't know. It's…weird, frankly, so I avoid them when I see them. A lot of them wind up becoming abhumans, and they recruit a lot of abhumans, but it never appealed to me. They're called shadowfolk because, their, uh, bodies are like…they act like shadows of the doll, you know?" You nod. That explains a lot! Like why this doll was in the apartment building - Your DONOR must have left it here before…whatever happened to her. Hm.

"Well, I'm not her!" You reaffirm, and Jeremy nods. "Can definitely see that, lady - Doll's not supposed to be walking around on its own, or, uh, with so many…extra appendages." Another shiver. Is he experiencing some lingering tremors from the poison? You'll have to double-check it to make sure there isn't any kind of unintentional side effect. "Uh. Anyways. I'm not here to cause you any trouble! I was just looking for-Well, you know! She's my apprentice. I'm supposed to keep an eye on her, make sure she doesn't do anything that'd fuck up the image of-" He shuts up, and Sabrina leans in, her voice lowering slightly. "The image of what?"

"...The United Front of Mages." This is more of a mumble, and he winces, as if expecting a blow to come. When it doesn't, he relaxes slightly. Sabrina has more of a reaction, hissing and stepping away from Jeremy. "Of course. Kid, when you wind up in trouble, you don't half-ass it, you know? Cops and criminals, at the same time!" He pipes up. "Hey! We're not-" She points at him. "Don't try and gussy it up for the kid. You guys just robbed that mail plane last week!" He seems to shrug, though the binding makes it hard. "Wasn't me. Dunno if we did it or not - Not my department."

"What's the United Front of Mages?" You politely ask, being quite confused about this whole thing. Jeremy speaks first. "We're an organization of activists for the magical community, who seek to institute a number of-" Sabrina interrupts him. "They're mage supremacists. They want to turn Aleria into a magocracy, like-Well, you wouldn't know any of the countries I was about to say, but they're in the UCNV." Jeremy looks like he's about to say a counterargument, but a quick glare from Sabrina shuts him up, leaving him just nervously glancing at you. "They also dabble in organized crime around the coast, which is probably why Jeremy here is a Guard contractor." You frown, tentacles lifting up around you and rubbing your face. That seems pretty bad to you! Pretty evil, even - The mage supremacy stuff, at least. You're not quite sure what falls under the auspices of organized crime, but this isn't really the time to ask.

You nod, slowly, lowering your tentacles and causing Jeremy to sign in relief. "Alright. Well, uh, I'm sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news, but the person you're looking for has, uh…" You search for the most sensitive term to describe her situation. "She has passed on from this world." He lets out a sigh, face becoming grim. He doesn't seem surprised…more…resigned. "Did you kill her?" You shake your head. "She was dead when I got here. I just, uh, found the doll." You shrug, and he grimaces. "...She and I didn't exactly get along, at the best of times, but…she was my apprentice. Fuck. That's rough. Poor gal. A mage like that didn't deserve to die here, in a place like this." You think her perspective on their relationship may have been quite different from his. Or perhaps he's lying to you about the nature of their relationship. You can't be sure.

An uncomfortable silence ensues, before Jeremy breaks it. "Well. Uh…Look. We're at something of an impasse here. I came here looking for her - And she's clearly, well, gone. You clearly thought I was here to come after you or whatever your deal is - How about you let me go, we both leave happy, nobody holds any hard feelings? I don't tell the Guard about whatever your deal is…with the…tentacle business, or anything about you-" He nods to Sabrina. "And you don't tell anyone anything about me or me being here, we're all satisfied." You're about to agree when Sabrina grips one of your tentacles, which she seems to have guessed is where your arm is - A valid assumption, considering that you have a wooden hand at the end of that particular tentacle. "Allow me and the Kid to discuss this outside, briefly." She leads you outside, and you follow, curious as to what she has to say.

"Look - Kid, this guy's about as trustworthy as a carnival huckster. Even if he keeps his word about not snitching to the Guard, he's absolutely going to tell the UFM about you. Maybe they won't do anything, maybe they drop by and make a recruitment attempt, maybe they try to muscle you into them by force. And that's to say nothin' about if he has any idea about what happened down there. And, look, I don't know what happened with whatever you and him were talking about with that dead person - I believe you, though! Don't get me wrong, I believe you when you say you didn't have anything to do with it." She flicks her tongue out. "But…well, if he had seen what I saw in that basement of yours, he might not be so, uh…understanding. And if anyone else comes by and sees what's in that basement of yours, they might think you had something to do with it, you know? Letting him walk is a permanent risk - To your safety. Now, if you wanna do it, I'll follow your lead, it's your safety, you get to make the choices. But I think it'd be a bad idea without taking some measure - We mentioned a compulsion, earlier, yeah? If you can whip up something like that and get him to agree to it, then yeah, I'd say that would be good insurance." You nod, seeing her point.

"Alright, good. Let's deal with this, then." She sighs and returns to the room.

It is March 28th, 1923. You will gain one biomass every two days (March 30th). Your current goals are to find someone who needs help, and help them, to investigate Herman's Theater of the Soul, and to close the Poster Portal (Time Limit: Ten Years). Your current Available Biomass is 1.
Your Current Assets Are:
1x Super Spy
1x Kudzu

Your Current Resources Are:
1x Broken Toy (Keyword: Split)

Your fully explored areas:
Your Home!
(Sub-Areas of Interest: The Lobby, Empty Apartments, Fleshbed, Roof)
You know of the following unexplored areas:
The Street Outside
(Sub-Areas: Jeremy's General Groceries
, The Alleyways, The Apartments, Laurel's Boxing, Sabrina's Apartment, Roy's Office, ???, ???)
The Rooftops

(Sub-Areas: ???)

Asset Situations

Explore [Sub-Area] with [Asset]

Explore a newly discovered location or sub-area! Make sure to specify which asset is exploring - This will have an impact on what may or may not be discovered! Feel free to include write-in instructions if you so desire.

Patrol [Fully Explored Area] with [Asset]

Sometimes, you need to play defense - Or simply linger in an area you've been before! This means patrolling that area and finding out what's changed about it, or if it's going to change in the future.

Visit Carl's Parlor of Dice and Cards

Frederick was such a nice young man, you feel at least a little obligated to visit! Sure, you don't have any money, but you're sure you can talk your way into it, to at least watch or something. And maybe you'll even see Frederick again!
Note: Visiting here will unlock a new Location. You can assume this of most 'visit' actions.

Visit Herman's Theater of the Soul

You're visiting this place with Sabrina to investigate it! So that you can shut it down, because it probably seems to be evil!

Drop By Sabrina's Apartment

You can visit Sabrina whenever you want, if you need her help with something, or if you just want to hang out! Mrs. Johnson has promised to feed you whenever you drop by, which you're quite happy about. Free biomass is always good! Plus, her food actually tastes good. You will gain biomass from this. Feel free to specify topics to discuss with Sabrina (or Mrs. Johnson).

Spend Time with Roy

He seems to be lonely, really! Though sometimes he seems like he wants to be lonely, and that's alright. But when he doesn't want to be lonely, you can visit him, and talk! Maybe he can even help you sort out your potentially perilous housing situation…or help you avoid getting in trouble for it, at least! Feel free to specify topics to discuss with Roy.

Dealing With Your Prisoner

You've got a prisoner in your home! This is a somewhat precarious situation, to be sure. Not only will you have to ensure he's watched and his basic needs are handled to avoid him escaping, but you also need to figure out a long-term solution for him. You can't just keep him locked up forever! This action will cover talking to, keeping watch on, and theoretically dealing with the prisoner - Feel free to specify which, or any specific topics to discuss with Jeremy. You may assume you are checking in on him at the beginning and end of each day and ensuring his basic needs are met, such as Sabrina bringing food for him, but a 24 hour guard on him will necessitate taking this action.

Work at Laurel's Boxing

Well, you've got a standing offer to come clean at Laurel's Boxing! She seems really tough, and Mister Flynn seems to be a bit of a…you think the term is 'scoundrel', but you're looking forward to going there again! Make sure to specify which asset is going to work. You will gain biomass from this. Feel free to specify topics to discuss with Laurel (or Sydney).

Deal With The Poster

You need to deal with the Poster, and there's only one way to find out how - Experimentation. Throw something at the poster and see what happens. Note: This may cause damage to whatever assets you throw at the Poster.

Biomass Options

Create an Asset.

Create an asset and pick as many keywords as you'd like for them, so long as you have the Biomass!

Recycle An Asset

Recyle an asset or parts of an asset. Make sure to specify which asset and/or which keywords. Important Note: This can be done in the same 'turn' in which you create a new asset with the biomass from the old asset!

Modify Yourself

You currently have the Immutable Keywords of Magical Biohorror, Broadcaster, Immobile, and Idealist. You have the normal keywords of Cute. You may add keywords to this, which will not be immutable and can be recycled and changed as you wish!

QM's Note: Welcome to Act One! There'll be a 2 hour moratorium to start with, then the vote'll open. In addition, I've got a question - Would you all like me to list keywords in the 'Current Assets' section, like I did during the Situation?

Yeah as we accumulate objects and keywords, it'll be helpful to have a place we can quickly refer to when altering or creating new assets.

But with regards to our prisoner, is there a way for us to be notified if he breaks the compulsion/geas preventing him from telling other people about us?

In the meantime as we figure out a way to set that up, I think he might be a good person to ask about the United Steel Corporation of Aleria, in case his background in the United Front of Mages has given him any key insights about it. Maybe we can even show him the poster? (It also might give him something more important to focus on when he leaves than what we are)

Hmm, okay. Jeremy talks a good game, but considering just how negative a reaction our DONOR had I really don't trust him.

(Also kind of odd he has the same name as the grocer. Probably a coincidence.)

Anyway we need to deal with him. He still has information and is probably concealing stuff, so I want to make an asset better able to shift the wheat from the chaff. Might need to recycle a bit to make it. Like the Subtle on our core.

Then we need to deal with him. Originally I was favoring the memory modification path, but seeing as he is at least a little reasonable we might be able to go with a geas instead.
I'm thinking we make some sort of pact with him. Having him enter into it voluntarily should make it harder to break. And if he really isn't lying about not telling others about us he should be willing to make it magically binding.

A thought. Our DONOR was his apprentice right? And one of Jeremy's specialties is biology. Maybe our DONOR made us, using knowledge she learnt from Jeremy.

But with regards to our prisoner, is there a way for us to be notified if he breaks the compulsion/geas preventing him from telling other people about us?
Yep! To suggest the most basic keyword I can think of for this: Alarm. To be clear, this would be for a 'compulsion asset', which is probably going to be "you put something inside him and it monitors him for you". However, if y'all want to come up with another solution, go hog wild! Just make sure your intent is clear.

If you want to do some form of magical spell (as discussed above), you'll probably want to modify your core keywords to make that possible, since otherwise it's going to be bound to one of your assets instead of you, which won't really work if you want actual secrecy. "Pactmaker", "Geas", "Secretkeeper", etc would all work, though in different ways! Think connotation when you make keyword choices - Experimentation and getting weird with stuff will always be your friend.

Interrogating him with some kind of truth-forcing asset before release is also valid.

The mage supremacy stuff, at least.
It feels like it supposed to have racist connotations.

But can't everyone learn magic? This is basically just a different flavor of (the rich) wanting the rich in control, so I am in not sure it is particularly worst or different than the current system, or our real world system to be an honest.

Either way, plan!

[X] how do we really know you tell the truth
-[X] remove Blitz from super spy and growing from kukuzu
--[X] create asset with keywords mind-reader and restraint, after checking that, replace restraint for anti-magic and try again.

Let's see what he knows before proceeding.

Not to give too much away, but indeed, with the magic system as described, 'magocracy' and 'mage supremacy' is more along the lines of 'technocracy' or 'oligarchy' then 'ethnostate' (though that isn't to say there can't be overlap with bigotry). Some variants aim for 'meritocracy', some aim for...other things. It'll probably come up later, but I do want to address that and make it clear.

Now hold on, do we want to show him any new assets, or that we can easily create new assets.

Uhh, maybe we could modify our core with something like "Empower" or "Gift" and see if we spend a biomass to give Sabrina some kind of geas or truth telling ability?

Hmm. I guess then if we don't want to have to keep biomass tied up long term it would be better to have the geas tied solely to Jeremy. Put a lot of keywords into the creature that makes it so it's both subtle and ironclad.
But that can come later. We can probably afford a single day before releasing him. I would say we re-spec our super spy into an "Interrogator" asset and see what we can extract from him.

If we recycle Blitz, and Subtle from our core then that gives us 3 biomass to work with. We probably want to keep perceptive for the Interrogator.

Keywords I'm thinking of right now would be: Interrogator, Likable, Lie-Detector.

Likable should help with getting him to open up and talk. Lie-Detector and Perceptive should let us know when he is deceiving us. Interrogator means we should be able to ask the right questions and press him on them.

[] Plan: Have a Little Chat
-[] Recycle Blitz from Super Spy
-[] Recycle Subtle from Core
-[] Modify Super Spy with: Interrogator, Likable, Lie-Detector.
-[] Dealing With Your Prisoner: Question him further.
--[] Topics: Relationship with apprentice, Intentions with us, Intentions with Sabrina, Activities with the Guard, Activities with the UFM

Here is my draft plan. Likable could be swapped for Charming or Charismatic, but the point is to make him open up and perhaps say a little more then he should via mundane methods, not mind control him.
When your Interrogator is a likable cute (flesh abomination) people tend to say a lot more.

Maybe we could temporary recycle something off the Kudzu, but I don't want to slow our growth too much. On the other hand it just gave us a biomass, so it won't be giving us another until after we have let Jeremy go. And we will probably want it's biomass for whatever we do to Jeremy next turn to make him keep quiet. So it may be best to recycle it this turn and remake it the turn after next. It would give us an additional 4 biomass for now.

Any other suggestions for topics?

I support giving something like 'Pactmaker' or 'Geas' to our Core, since it gives an ability we can use again if a similar situation ever occurs. While it seems an asset will be inside jeremy's body so not usable in other persons

I would say swap Likable with Persausive or Convincing. And ask what he knows about the Poster.
The real trick for successful interrogation is building a rapport. That's why Likable, or something similar is so important. We want him to like us and want to tell us things. But persuasive will be useful too.

[] Plan: Have a Little Chat v2
-[] Recycle Blitz from Super Spy
-[] Recycle Subtle from Core
-[] Recycle the Kudzu
-[] Modify Super Spy with: Interrogator, Likable, Charismatic, Persuasive, ESP, Lie-Detector.
-[] Dealing With Your Prisoner: Talk about inconsequential things to build a rapport. Question him further.
--[] Topics: Knowledge of apprentice, Relationship with apprentice, Intentions with us, Intentions with Sabrina, Activities with the Guard, Activities with the UFM, Knowledge of USCoA

Basically the goal is to both extract information from him, and hit him with an all out social assault. Get him to like and sympathise with us and see thing from our perspective.
We're really very friendly! But this is our home and we are very worried about knowledge of it getting out. We are oh so very sorry but we just can't let him go without some sort of guarantee. Surely he can understand us wanting our privacy considering how we look?

Stockholm syndrome is a hell of a thing.

We jack up our social intelligence as much as we can and question him. My hope with ESP is that we will be able to read more off of what he says then he intends.

Recycling the plant for today and tomorrow will mean we lose out on a biomass. But we will probably want as much biomass as we can for whatever pact-making creature we make tomorrow, so we probably won't get the biomass it would produce in two days anyway.

Edit: Had an extra biomass.

What's your plan for that, by the way?
I'm thinking to put the Geas/Pact-maker/etc keyword on the core, and make the asset with Magic Resistant, Inoperable (in the surgical sense) and Symbiotic/Parasitic (or maybe something like Internal if it's placement needs to be specified like that).
EDIT: or perhaps have the third keyword be something like Undetectable.

[X] Plan: Have a Little Chat v2: Keep the Plant Edition

I like this plan. We need to keep our source of biomass alone so that we can continue to grow.
