Lesbian and Yuri Anime/TV/Novel/General Discussion Thread

Speaking of Wonder Woman. The animated adaption of the Red Son comic book has her flat out turn down Superman. Using the words "I'm from an island of all women, figure it out". While it does really nothing with it, I think. That is a pretty big change since Wonder Woman in the Red Son comics had a crush on Superman and his never returning her feelings played a big role in her siding against him. Also I think this is the first time I've seen an adaption of Wonder Woman that was strictly Lesbian instead of the Normal Bi-Prefers Men.

Could be she's still bi and just wanted to spare his feelings, but either way I think that's a change for the better. The titular Red Son is exactly as messed up in the head as you'd expect a Kryptonian adopted by Joseph Stalin to be, and really not capable of having a healthy relationship with Diana (or anyone else) until the very end of his character arc.

That's a risky way of trying to spare his feelings considering this was the 60s or 70s in universe. Soviet Union wasn't exactly a bastion of LGBT rights after Lenin died after all. Superman having no issues with her blatantly telling him she's gay is a sign he's unusually very socially progressive for his country.

But honestly it is one of the changes the adaption makes that I approve of since it completely removes Wonder Woman acting as a woman scorned later on, instead she's the last voice of reason when both sides are willing to throw down.

Watched the first three episodes of this tonight while in the gym.

Turns out that despite everything looking like the '80s, it actually takes place in the modern day. The only way I could tell was by the presence of smartphones and a few throwaway lines.

It's been pretty decent so far, but if you're mainly interested in it for the "lesbian crush" aspect, be advised that part starts out very low-key, with her not even realizing her own feelings, and develops slowly.

I looked at the GN. That version, at least ends REALLY badly.

She can't cope with her powers and commits suicide.

So, yeah....

It's kinda weird how the show and the graphic novel differ on the ending, given that
The cause in the novel for Sydney to kill Brad is because he raped Dina and killed herself later because it didn't solve anything. In the show she kills him, in a much more bloodier fashion by exploding his head and spray it over everyone, because he was outing her to the school by stealing and reading her diary at the prom but she is okay afterwards??

Finished the season. Didn't realize it was only 7 episodes. But that's been the trend recently with Netflix stuff. Definitely interested to see more.

I don't know how it went down in the graphic novel, but in the show she didn't intentionally kill Brad, and she's so disturbed by it that she was thinking about isolating herself so she couldn't hurt anyone else. It's possible that this would have eventually made her suicidal if she'd managed to go through with it, but since the shadowy figure appeared (to presumably try to turn her into a supervillain), she didn't get the chance.

I'm guessing that the GN was a self-contained story, so it could end by killing off its protagonist. Since Netflix presumably wants to keep this series going, they ended on a cliffhanger instead.

What are the major modern Yuri mangas? I know Citrus...only Citrus and Girlfriends. Bloom into you is one? Are there others?

I also know, from the Webtoons, Mage and Demon Queen, and then Mojito. A Chinese one.

Not sure what's popular, but these are the ones I remember being particularly notable:

Sasameki Koto, the Kase-san series, A Room For Two, Collectors, Hanjuku Joshi, Lonely Wolf Lonely Sheep, Lily Love, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, Out of the Blue, Shoujo Kishidan x Knight Tale, Tonari no Robot, Wife and Wife....

I'm probably forgetting some.

The creator of the lesbian BDSM comic Sunstone is giving the series away for a limited time!

That's great. I just downloaded it.

Does anyone know of any other creators doing something like this? I might only have a day or two where I'll be able to download stuff on to my laptop. My local library is closing and my internet at home is limited to my phone. So I'll want to scoop up as much free content like this while I can.

The horror/Comedy Bloodstain is also free.

Can't name any specific authors off the top of my head, but I know Smashwords are doing a sitewide sale. If any of your favourite writers are on there you should check their store pages.
