[X] Plan Aggressive assault
nope lets not let the islamists get any more power
nope lets not let the islamists get any more power
Would the Islamists really take their metaphorical ball and go home or revolt at this critical hour if we decided to fill the empty officer ranks from the socialist peasant militias I wonder? The rebellious Copt officers might survive a Christian League victory but the Islamists have just burned their bridges with the Europeans and would be crushed alongside the Socialists in an event of a Christian League victory. They might grudgingly accept the power grab rather than risk Egyptian defeat. We could probably create excuses as to why officers from the peasant militias are better. We could claim that the peasant militias are better trained or less tainted by the fallen colonial government. The excuse would be paper-thin but it might be enough to last the war.
@Fission Battery How reliable are our tanks mechanically? Will half of them break down before reaching the first enemy trench like the first OTL WW1 tanks or are they somewhat more reliable like later OTL WW1 tanks? What is the top speed of our tanks? The heavy tank seems somewhat similar to the OTL German A7V tank which had a top speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph) on roads and 6.4 km/h (4.0 mph) cross-country. The light tank seems very similar to the OTL British Whippet tank which had a top speed of 13.4 km/h (8.33 mph).
Our heavy bomber seems similar to the OTL Russian Ilya Muromets bomber which was successful by OTL WW1 standards.
I'm tempted to pick non elected officers because this is a bit too short notice to put anyone through officer school.
Would a write in to get half socialist, half islamist promotions from militias be valid @Fission Battery ? I'd like to keep the equilibrium to avoid making waves before the offensive. If not, socialist officers seems ok.
Is going to come back to bite us, hard, both in terms of occupation and in terms of international response. The cost however is staggering collateral damage, including civilian deaths. The shelling will be indiscriminate.
I do think that an army filled with socialists (and radical copts) will prevent that, though, hah.I will say that the reason I went for elected officials is to avoid provoking the islamists right now, going all in on curtailing them I worry will cause them to attempt a coup once victory seems imminent against Levant.
Well, looking at the Islamists' favored response to the officer's strike, it seems that the Copts' concerns about a potential pogrom aren't unfounded. But among their demands to protect themselves and their remaining privileges, they actually bring up something that we might want to expand into a larger government policy. This is something we can extend to groups like the Sinai Bedouins, the displaced Nubians, the various Jewish communities, and the Shi'a Muslims. The Copt officers are panicking, hard. They have yet to open fire on people because of the restraint of the Radical Copts and have instead barricaded themselves in their own barracks. They refuse to march to war unless concessions are given to them or else they will fight against the new revolutionary government. There are a few approaches considered.
The Copt's demands are that they can not be disarmed, they retain property rights, be given exceptions to labour laws (so no nationalization or forced unionization), they continue to retain control over private schools, and be given a minimum number of seats in parliament as a protected minority.
The Islamists are in favour of crushing this officer/soldier strike, quickly and brutally. Copts have constantly worked with Europeans to rule over the rest of Egypt. Islamists insist that Copts, to the last, are foreign agents and saboteurs that should be disarmed, if not expelled from the country at the soonest possible convenience.
Given the history of Islamists, appeasing them will just make them even more likely to coup the government. Appeasing the Islamists will work just about as well as trying to do the same with fascists, nazis or just about any ideology that is innately hostile to any kind of socialism. Like I can give a few reasons why having more Islamist officers is a terrible idea:I will say that the reason I went for elected officials is to avoid provoking the islamists right now, going all in on curtailing them I worry will cause them to attempt a coup once victory seems imminent against Levant.
granting large ethnic groups like the Nubians and Beja people autonomy would also help I believeDedicating a minimum number of parliamentary seats to protected religious and ethnic minorities would be a good way to ensure that those groups can actually be a part of the higher level governmental processes. Otherwise they would need to gather themselves into effectively insular/isolated communities in order to ensure that they have enough voters in a single electoral district to reliably get a representative el
That's why the Copts are so hostile is because they have to be highly insular otherwise they will get ripped apart by the Islamists for being non muslims but once the Copt officers were mixed with the Socialists they became far more friendly and radicalized because they were around a group that didn't want to kill them all and was willing to treat them as equals and not pawns. Its's also why the Copts didn't go full guns blazing since the Radical Copts told them that the government might be willing to comprimise.Dedicating a minimum number of parliamentary seats to protected religious and ethnic minorities would be a good way to ensure that those groups can actually be a part of the higher level governmental processes. Otherwise they would need to gather themselves into effectively insular/isolated communities in order to ensure that they have enough voters in a single electoral district to reliably get a representative elected.
