Kantai Collection - Fanfic Idea and Recs

I don't mean fraternising as a question of intimate relations. I mean whether subcaps and caps would instinctively separate themselves, similar to how human officers and enlisted have separate mess, staterooms and other facilities and usually don't mix.
Probably? Considering students already tend to gather in cliques within their year groups in school, avoiding their seniors and juniors, I suppose this is inevitable?

Some shipgirls with history together might break the mold, but they'll probably be rare for the most part.

If anything I'd think the opposite, that escorts would instinctively group up around those who needed escorting in steel. Echoing their behaviors, as it were. So a big squishy BB might wake up with half a dozen DD in their bed and a CL snoozing on their chest.

I know someone who writes like that (@SeismicGuide)... :V :V
I just drew it from the idea of cuddle piles and shipgirls being weird. Not even using beds and just napping in piles out on the docks, where they would rest in steel. Heck, you really want to play it up, they make rafts, moor them, and nap there in mounds of tired bote. If you want to make it magical, not even rafts, they just nap out on the water and confuse the humans deeply how you can float while sleeping and not have issues.

A lot of my botes Are very much familial, a DD will either sleep within piles of her sisters or with a cruiser ("Big sister") or a Capital ship ("Mother"), even if they're in the USN/RN/German navy, since mine are shifted into a USMC-like command type Deal with the navy, while still being Navy, so yeah, fraternizing Isn't a big deal for my shipgirls.

That doesn't count for every other headcannon, though ;v

What about the coastal patrol boats/kaibokan/patrol frigates/corvettes from RN/USN/RCN/IJN and other navies? Their number could add up as much as over a thousand ships! The logistics and command structure would be hard to imagine. Think destroyer piles are many? Wait until you see the horde of smol and cute girls that had the capabilities to destroyer your local neighborhood.
Also, it would be glad if there is somebody to threadmark some of good posts in this thread.

From my understanding anything really lighter than a frigate/corvette comes back as an animal, (see PT Corgis) and I don't think we really see anything in universe lighter than a DDE (escort destroyer)

That comes from the Kancolle quest from 4chan if I remember correctly.

Honestly, I dislike the idea of having animals for smaller ships, I prefer the smaller boats being miniatures of the ships being crewed by fairies. If a shipgirl is required, have one be the manifestation of the whole group of PT boats.

Also on the topic of ships segregating, I don't really see it. One, they would stick with their escorts. Two there is a strong precedent of ships not segregating in harbor. I mean look at this:

Even within the same class categories you have ships pairing up:

It could be argued, that ships like to stick together when they are off duty.

All I'm seeing in those pictures is SLUMBER PARTY!

And yea.. that awful quest is responsible for so much bad fanon that keeps getting regurgitated like someone suffering from food poisoning

I mean from a historical perspective, it is one of the first fics that tried to make sense of the world of Kancolle and thus, people latched onto it due to it establishing the floor for Kancolle fics at that time with whatever else that was available. Even though people have moved on from it due to it having glaring flaws, it still has influnce due to it having a role in establishing the early doctrine for Kancolle fics.

Not entirely the quest, I'd say the blame lays more on BB since it's much more accessible and popular than KoC (or whatever the abbreviation was) ever was.

I've actively avoided reading BB as I got warned how dumb it got and just wow... Of course both were naturally American Centric so yea...

We have Take from E4:

and the boss:

Take's a good design. Those arms are whew. The Abyssal boss' rigging is kinda plain but her expression really sells it.

Matsu(which is the same class as Take) also has green hair and green(-ish) uniform. Maybe it'll be standard for that class, since they are all named after plants?

Still, not a fan of her art - something makes her face look wrong.
I honestly expected this to be someone asking where I saw pics of Pensacola. It was on danburou, but that one is gone now, all I can find is the pink haired Azure Lane version.
