It Belongs to a Museum

Making her a vampire would have done more than spare Khalida. It would have bound her to Neferata's will, there was probably more than fondness to that choice.

Certainly true, yeah. Given the situation I'm dubious Khalida could have remained Queen at the same time Neferata was one, but her personal skills and prowess would likely have been at Neferata's disposal. Still, making her a vampire was also definitely a pretty big risk, so the 'some affection there' explanation makes more sense to me than anything else.

What are we planning to do with Aelsabrim next? Teach her the magic of the funeral cult?
Or should we just wait until her thirst to reunite with her husband exceeds her prudence so that she wants to resurrect him as an undead?
How are we even going to do this if we don't have necromancy?

We can hire necromancers to do the tutoring, or just learn it ourselves. As for the next steps with Aelsabrim, well to quote a certain Ranaldian Priestess:

"If there's anything I've learned in my years, it's that cunning plans fall apart. Just focus on positioning yourself well, and whatever happens you can be in the right spot to profit from it.

We've positioned ourselves, and now we wait for an opportunity to profit. We don't yet know what that opportunity or profit is, but we're ready to claim it.

I think the opportunity we need to wait for is when she eventually asks if there is a way to allow more direct communication with her husband's soul or some way to allow it to interact with the outside world.

In that instance we can bring up the Ushabti and Necromancy as options.

I am imagining a naturalist display of dinosaur skeletons risen to move around and articulate like the genuine article did. Imagine how cool it would be to have a vampire museum with moving fossils.

10: Asur
Boney threw 6 10-faced dice. Total: 33
10 10 6 6 2 2 2 2 7 7 6 6

Looks like our options will be an Asur Beastmaster, an Awakening undead Necromancer, an Awakening mortal Zoologist, an Awakening mortal Weaponmaster, an Awakening vampire Historian, and an Awakening undead Explorer.

Neat. Everyone is a local except the Asur.

Probably someone the Princess delegated to us out of thanks and to keep both sides updated about any new developments. Exotic beasts are her specialty afer all.
Awakening undead Necromancer
Ah yes, a Liche (though not a priest). He also achieved immortality like Uncle, although he used different methods. Makes for an experienced Necromancer, sure.
Awakening mortal Zoologist
Probably one of those weirdos, that were thrown out of some Old World university and found a better place to study exotic fauna.
Awakening mortal Weaponmaster
Apparently is being paid more, than he has ever dreamed of, he only needs to tolerate the stench. Low ranking Undead must make for poor smiths and those with more power have better things to do.
Awakening vampire Historian
Beckett, is that you?
Awakening undead Explorer
A Wight Captain, that used to sail the seven seas and will do so happily again, especially since now there is no need to rush it and the cargo bay has more place for loot, instead of supplies.

A very interesting team.

I am interested in the Beastmaster, Necromancer and Historian.

The Vampire probably isn't that old, but it would be fun to teach them the history of the vampires.
Yeah, preemptively I am also leaning Beastmaster, Historian and Necromancer.

Rolling an Asur Beastmaster after picking Aelsabrim is a divine portent, a vampire historian is about as close to the "old man who tells history by having lived there" archtype as we're going to get and Necromancer is Necromancer.

Or both, a historian who was vamped and decided to take the chance to learn EVEN MORE HISTORY! :V
Newly vamped historian: "YES, direct access to primary sources!"

I bet they are at vampire coast because every vampire in the old world is just so sick of them badgering them for more details.

edit-
I will wait to learn about their personalities and personal histories.
But the vampire is a big draw for very understandable reasons.
Necromancer is just fun and useful.
Beastmaster has promise, but definitely at the bottom of top 3 for me.

Any chance Vampire Historian is a Lahmian? That would make our funny stories of our precocious little niece that much more hilarious
As an Awakening Vampire specifically, they are almost certainly a Whatever Bloodline Luthor Is. Generally this is held as "Blood Dragon But From Before The Blood Dragons Were Commonly Known As Blood Dragon" but boney's made posts indicating he's going with "Luthor's is a progenitor vamp with his own bloodline."

One of the reasons I like this quest so much was that I once had an idea for a Necromacer quest, with the option of going to the Vampire Coast - so this fills that gap nicely

Small lore-question, can a regular intelligent Undead, like a Wights learn Necromancy, or any magic at all, post-mortem?

Because it seems like most undead Necromancers are people who died/became immortal as Necromancers, or Vampires with a natural affinity for the discipline.
Actual undead who later learned the trade are not known to me.
