I'm calling the name vote at midnight.

Anyone got any questions, critiques, stuff like that?

I appreciate that sort of thing.

Oh, how much of a difference would the results for looking for people change if we had taken the option on turn 1?

Depends on the roll, these guys would always be on the table, but other options included a family of varying size, a single homeless person, a stray dog, a small pack of newborn ghouls, or a berserk Mr Gutsy if you rolled a one.

Hey can i get a tally for the name vote?/

kinda looks like Alfred wins, but i just to be sure.

I'll try to get an update out sometime this week.

Day 3
AN: Sorry about that delay, my motivation to write just took a nosedive for awhile, it happens, I'm back though, atleast for a little while.

At anyrate, my house is slowly approaching livable again, so lets all hope i can move back in by mid may!

XXXXXXXXX
Day 3:
After the commotion last evening you ended up staying up a little bit running the start up for your newly Acquired Mr. Handy, Dubbed "Alfred" by your new guests.

Speaking of them, there were some minor issues there, some had settled in better than others, but some just seemed to be outright distrustful of you… you probably need to address that at some point. Or there could be a lot of trouble coming your way.

On the Brightside, with the extra hands fixing your house up is moving along much faster, and you even have access to (very small amounts of) cold water again thanks to Alfred, The water is really great after a couple of hours worth of hard work.

Now that repairs are done for the day, you should probably figure out how to use the remaining daylight.

Available Actions (choose four):

[] On the Road Again: Mobility is key to Survivability! In the end you may decided that staying here just isn't viable, luckily you have a car… or had, that is, you should try and fix that (Reward, functioning Car, increased number of actions per day, some actions take less time)

[] Is Anybody else out there?: You can't possibly be the only survivor's… can you? You should probably see if there's anyone else around, there's strength in numbers after all. (Success chance ???, Reward, Gain survivors, More manpower, more actions become available, some actions take less time, Be careful they may not be friendly.)

[] Scavenging for Salvation: There is a lot of rubble lying around out here, a lot of stuff has undoubtedly been destroyed, but there might still be some useful stuff, buried in the dust. (Success Chance ???, Reward: Random objects of varying use and value. Repeatable)

[] Trespasser's will be Vaporized: Might be a good idea to put up some warning signs, tough times can bring out the best in people, but they can also bring out the worst. Might just want to let any would-be warlord's know that you are armed and dangerous. (Reward: Potential deterrent against looters, won't matter much with large or well equipped groups though… or things that can't read.)

[] Zom-be-gone: With the revelation of some sort of slavering mutant hordes waiting somewhere beyond your little patch of relative safety, maybe you should take the time to be a bit more proactive in your defense than just some warning sign's, you doubt Zombies can read, you have plenty of dead wood, a shovel and various tools, you could probably dig yourself some pit traps, a trench, or build some walls or something. (Time 2 days, Success chance 90%, Reward, some sort of defense against mutant hordes.)

[] Howdy Neighbor!: Get to know your new guests on a general level, might help keep tensions from boiling over, and with the way the world is now, you got no doubt that you need friends to watch your back. (Chance of Success 50%, Reward: your fellow survivors like you more, more willing to listen.)

[] Finding Tranquility: Bill's definitely got some prior military experience, but you've never even heard of "Operation: Tranquility" before, and if his eyes are anything to go by, the man has seen some shit, More than you even. Trying to pry directly into that sort of thing Is a bad idea, but maybe you can work towards it, share a few war stories, have a couple of beers, that sort of thing? (Success Chance 15%, Reward: Bill Trusts you a little more, ????.)

[] Smell's like Teen Spirit: Amongst all the would-be Protestor's you found in the park, Only two really seemed to have any sort of plan, or preparation. What drives a Girl not even out of college to dawn a bullet proof vest, mix up some Molotov's and pull out the shotgun? Only Alessandra knows, but hopefully that won't be the case for much longer. (Success chance 60%, Reward: Alessandra trusts you a bit more, part of her life story, ????.)

AN: Vote, discuss, have fun, you know the drill.

Next update whenever i can.

[X] On the road again
[X] Howdy Neighbor!
[X] Zom-be-gone
[X] Smells like Teen Spirit

Diffuse tensions and get to know the person with the better chance of success. Fix the car for bonus actions. Set up basic defenses.

I think we need to heal the hole in our heart before scavenging again. Or at least sleep on it.

Day 3 Results.
Author's Note: Hi all! back with another update... And something Extra.

Day 4 options coming mid-next week at the earliest.

XXXXXXXXXXX

Day 3 Result's:

On the Road Again: Mobility is key to Survivability! In the end you decided that staying here just isn't viable, luckily you have a car… or had, that is, you should try and fix that (Reward, functioning Car, increased number of actions per day, some actions take less time.)

Nothing like the smell of plutonium to wake a man up in the morning! It took a bit of doing, but it turns out that your car had come out of thing's pretty well once you got the rubble off it, a little bit of soldering here, a replaced tire there, and she was good as new, though fuel might be a problem in a few years, for now your finally able to range beyond your neighborhood!

Zom-be-gone: With the revelation of some sort of slavering mutant hordes waiting somewhere beyond your little patch of relative safety, maybe you should take the time to be a bit more proactive in your defense than just some warning sign's, you doubt Zombies can read, you have plenty of dead wood, a shovel and various tools, you could probably dig yourself some pit traps, a trench, or build some walls or something. (Time 2 days, Success chance 90%, Reward, some sort of defense against mutant hordes.)

(Chance of Success 90%, Roll: 24. Success!)

Well it ain't like anything you had back in Alaska… but it'll have to do, You and few of your guests had managed to sharpen some of the wooden lumber laying around and create rows of sharp outward facing stakes around the house, for (hopefully) mindless zombies to impale themselves on.

Tomorrow you would dig a few pits and fill'em up with spikes. And that would be that when It came defense... you just didn't have the materials for much else.

Howdy Neighbor!: Get to know your new guests on a general level, might help keep tensions from boiling over, and with the way the world is now, you got no doubt that you need friends to watch your back. (Chance of Success 50%, Reward: your fellow survivors like you more, more willing to listen.)

(Chance of Success 50%, Roll: 53. Success!)

Well, this arrangement might end up being long term, most of these people were from the university of Michigan campus over in Ann Arbor, and a few From Wayne State in Mid-Town, quite a few had home's in several other parts of the country… You highly doubt there are going to be any outgoing flights to California or DC anytime soon.
Considering that, you should probably get to know these people.

So that's what you do, you've never been the most… social person around, but you try, and you think you make some headway. It's not much, but you listen to some stories, have a few people have emotional breakdowns in front of you, you even tell a few stories yourself… and by the end of it, a lot of them seem to be a little bit more at ease around you.

Smell's like Teen Spirit: Amongst all the would-be Protestor's you found in the park, Only two really seemed to have any sort of plan, or preparation.

(Chance of Success 60%, Roll: 59. Success!)

See Interlude.

Author's Note: No random event today, and pretty meh rolls all around. Discuss, and I hope you enjoy it.

Also i may be starting another quest sometime soon... so that might be fun.

Interlude: A Conversation
AN: I got nothing. Here's your interlude.

Enjoy.

XXXXXXXX

Interlude: A Conversation.
It was getting dark, you would say somewhere around 6:00 PM… but you honestly couldn't tell with all the ash and smoke still blocking the sun, and all theclocks having stopped.

At any rate, you hadn't drawn one of the short straw's to go on watch tonight, so you were looking forward to some shut-eye…

But Before that there was still something you wanted to do. Out of all your guests, two seemed more interesting than the others.

You had considered talking to Bill, but you recognized the look in his eyes, something tore him up inside real bad. A monster that he couldn't kill, because it came from inside…
Just like the thing eating you up from the side.
And if you were too weak to beat your own monster…. How could you hope to help anyone else with there's?

No, best not tread that ground right now. It could only end badly.

And so you moved to less treacherous terrain.

Who was Alessandra Gravano?

Hopefully you would find out.

You find her sitting by one of the camp fires you had setup behind your house.

Putting on your "Getting shit done" face you walk right on up and take a seat opposite of her, and begin the conversation with your best possible ice-breaker.

"So… Awful weather we've been having lately?"

You fight the forward movement of time with all your might, but to no avail, the words have already been said.

You die a little bit on the inside.

Alessandra on her part, honestly seemed to not have expected that, and seems to choke on her first response.

Eventually she manage's to speak though.

"Uh… yeah, it's… pretty bad."

She stares awkwardly at the fire.

You stare Awkwardly at the fire.

It's about the time that crickets start chirping that you metaphorically flip the table and start punching subtlety in the face repeatedly.

You don't know if you'll ever stop.

"Okay you know what, I'm just gonna ask, what drives an eighteen year old…"

"Nineteen"

Well fuck, she interrupted you… you had no plan for that.

"What" Brilliant recovery Alex.

"I'm nineteen years old."

Okay, fair enough. You can still do this.

"Okay, what drives a nineteen-year-old girl, to put on a riot vest, and grab a shotgun? And don't say protesting, you don't bring Ballistic Vest's and Molotov Cocktails to a protest."
She looks a little sheepish at that… but she answers atleast.

"Okay… so it was less a protest and more an "Organized Riot" There was stuff I needed to get that I couldn't. My family… isn't the most well off… my mom and dad worked their asses off to get me into a good school, and I still needed a scholarship to pay most of it, and prices were rising so high for food, for medicine… that they couldn't afford it."

Alessandra seems to have forgotten where she was, her voice was getting more emotional… and something was shining in the corner of her eyes…

"They told me not to worry about it, that they would be fine, But then Dad caught something… Something bad, and mom couldn't get any medicine, they couldn't afford anything, they couldn't even afford to get him to a doctor… my dad died choking on his own lungs. All for a lack of money. After that we tried to lobby complaints with the local government, tried to file lawsuits against the companies involved, and all of it failed. I started planning this thing a little bit later, found a few other people in situations like mine, and people who disagreed with government policies, or were angry about the prices, and decided that if no one was going to help us get what we needed, food, medicine... then we'd just…"

"You'd take it by force?" You interrupted.

She snaps out of her little trance, or whatever that was, and promptly looks at the ground, fist's clenched at her sides.

Her refusing to make eye contact is all the answer you need.

You sigh. And begin to speak.

"I'm going to be honest… if I had somehow gotten invited to this thing, I would've been really tempted to join… I had my own axe to grind with Uncle Sam afterall. But do you realize how idiotic this whole plan of yours was? Did you even know that they had been using troops in Power armor to pacify riots for the past few months? It's very likely that if you had started causing any real trouble, then you all…"

"We would have all died…" There she goes interrupting you again… although judging by the paleness of her face atleast she understood her screw up.

"Or worse, they could've called you all Chinese infiltrator's, and shipped you off to The Big Empty or something."

Alessandra looks like she's about to ask a question…

"Don't ask about Big Empty, I only know that it aint anywhere pleasant, and that they use explosive collar's to "Ensure Obedience""

Hah! You got to interrupt her for once!

Alessandra goes quiet… then, in only a little bit more than a whisper she speaks.

"Then what were we supposed to do? Nothing else worked! My father died, and my mother probably would've too, my little brother would've have been left alone…"

You don't really know how to answer that… and you don't really think you should try.

Your silence is apparently her cue to keep going.

"I guess it doesn't matter anymore, my mother, my little brother, they're probably dead, our house is probably dust, I would've been dead or worse, and my plan to help them would've failed anyway… I'm all alone now."

There are tears in her eyes now.

You were not ready for today, but fuck it, you don't like seeing people cry.

"No, you're not."

You cut her off.

"You're not alone, I know we aren't exactly close… hell most of us barely even know each other, But we're all we've got now, so you're not alone, you've got Alfred and me… and I'm sure you've got the others too. I know That can't replace your family, and I know I'm not worth much of anything… but it's still better than nothing, right?"

She looks like she's about to interrupt you again, but you will not be thwarted this time.

"And I've got the car working again, so I'm sure we can track down your family eventually. So it's all okay! We just have to keep pushing through each day and it will be fine…"

"Alex"

Damnit not again.

"Thank you"

Those words, and the small smile on her face… You're okay with being interrupted this time.

Author's note: this was by far the biggest thing I've written in awhile, so i want some discussion you guys.

Plz, Feedback... anything at all.

*Reads interlude*

I'm not crying, theres just ash and radioactive shit in my eyes.

Also next turn we're talking to Bill.

If the govt was suppressing riots with military gear, it is possible some of it survived and is near us. We should keep that in mind for when we can look past immediate survival and can start doing things like arming ourselves.
