Howl, Makai Knight! (Garo/Senran Kagura)

[X] Rest (Recover lost Health, Ki points and prevent Exhaustion State).

In other news I finished Gold Storm Sho, overall I think the show started out strong but stumbled a bit during the lead up to the final arc, especially when Rian got possessed and Ryuga faced his darkness and events kinds went "Jinga wins because the plot says so". I was also confused about how Ryuga got to become a kaiju, and did the Makai Order wipe everyone's memories after Radan's rampage or not?

Though I do think Gold Storm had its strong points, Ryuga was a much better Garo than last time, the villain of the week episodes were solid, despite the plot jerking him around I found Daigo a better supporting Knight than Takeru and Aguri, and Gald got good character development, Garo Dark vs Ginga was epic both times, and I liked the back and forth tug of war that went on between the Horrors and the Order during the first two-thirds of the show.

For the villains Jinga was pretty good, there have been better but there have been worse Garo Big Bad's. I'd rate him above Ashiya Douman , Sigma, Eiji, and Tousei, but not up to par with the best villains Ring, Barago, and Mendosa. He was a deliciously evil asshole that you loved to hate but I think they should have expanded upon who he was as a human to better examine his justifications for his hedonism and nihilism better. Jinga was good, but could have been better, his best moments when he made me go "What an asshole!"

Sorry if this isn't the place, but this quest got me to watch Garo again so I decided to post my thoughts of the show.

The Order has probably collapsed by that era. Ryuga couldn't even purify his armor until he met Ryume, and Rian mentions wanting to rebuild Kantai.

Personality wise, Daigo is a better supporting Knight than the ones from Yami Tera, but good god he jobs hard. I don't think he killed a single non-mook Horror in the entire show.

I thought Zinga was the best Garo villain so far, plus he's popular enough to get an upcoming movie.

The Order collapsed? But Aguri went to the Senate in the Knight who Shines in the Darkness to get a item to build the Madou Horror Detector and Ryuga's mom's plan to purify Garo was sponsored by the Order, they sent a bunch of Priests and a Knight to help. I'm also pretty sure the reason why Ryuga didn't get his armor purified was because he forgot out of excitement. Also, in that very season Daigo and Seiji were still training Knights implying a level of organization.

Oh, Daigo definitely jobbed hard, that's been a problem since Crow but I think his jobbing tied into his character better as the guy who tries hard but gets beat down from Ginga to Gald, he had a better dynamic with Gald, Ryuga, and Rian, and he did get a really awesome moment in the end when he smashed Radan into the Priests trap.

For Ginga I felt he didn't have as much personality or exploration as Ring, Mendosa, and Barago, and his victories in the final act boiled down to 'the plot needs him to win so he can summon Radan so Ryuga can beat it up' on top of him randomly gaining posession powers no other Horror could do. On top of everyone forgetting to kill Amily after he was defeated the first time.

We really need to use Level 3 or Level 4 of the Training Room at some point. Learning how to fight against an entire mob of enemoes is important and could unlock a multi-targeting ability.

@Alexander89 Say, can't we use the Training Room with Rokuro and Ichiko?

For real?

I must admit I too find the Ryuga era somehow lacking. It's like the writers were trying too hard and failed.

If you invite them and they accept, sure.

Say, I was thinking if there wasn't a better use for Willpower points in the format of this quest. Instead of changing a single action for battle, why not spending a WP point to get an autosux on the Health Stock roll in case you don't get one? It would be a better expression of "heroic willpower".

Like this?
1) get reduced to zero HP, roll for Health Stock chance
2) roll under, fuuuuuuuu- wait
3) decide to spend 1 Willpower to auto-pass
4) (optional) Tetsuya is suddenly treated to a mini-flashback that contains the reasons why he needs to keep fighting on
5) Tetsuya mans the fuck up, stands up again and combat continues

Alternatively, burn Willpower in order to put an extra oomph into an attack?
(Thereby finishing off enemies quicker?)

Exactly so.

So basically EX Moves?
Certainly, if we're thinking of the same term.
*looks at Street Fighter*

Useful when you know that one attack is going to hit no matter what.
But of course, it has to be used sparingly, since it's also using the same pool for saving Tetsuya's backside if his HP hits 0.
There are already Overdrive techniques to fill that slot I believe.

I like this quite a lot. It's an excellent expression of the awesome tenacity of Makai Knights to keep fighting even after taking incredible beatings.

I wouldn't go that far, it was nowhere near as bad as the Crimson Moon. I think Gold Storm Sho was a massive step in the right direction but they failed to stick the landing.
Like I said, trying to hard: at the start it gives results, but then towards the end it begins failing.

I would prefer if we could still keep changing an action.
If we can auto-win those, then we wouldn't need to bother with our health so much.

Arc 5.10: The Trap Is Sprung
[X] Rest (Recover lost Health, Ki points and prevent Exhaustion State).

After purifying the few Gates around the Yukinoshita mansion I go straight home and just fall on the bed without even changing my clothes. I close my eyes to sleep...

Mikazuki clears his throat.

"Oops, sorry." I take off the necklace and put him on his support, the sphinx-like body of a crouched dog of which Mikazuki forms the head when slotted into it.

Then I really go to sleep.
All Health points recovered.
All Ki points recovered.

====

I woke up when the sun is setting, having being roused by the change in the light. Famished I consume a quick dinner before leaving for my assigned post.

I spend two hours seated on a bench reading an old newspaper before the Makai Dragon next to me glows and Senjuuro's voice comes out of it. "Kurogane-dono! The anomaly is forming near your position!"

"Where?" I jump back to my feet and follow the Priest's directions. I arrive at a parking lot with only a few cars, the black figure with the Enma's Eye showing its back to me.

There is a body at its feet.

I grimace before taking out four Makai Charms. "Stop right there!" I yell while tossing the charms at the four corners of the lot: they land and activate, forming the barrier.

The figure doesn't even acknowledge me, it simply raises its other hand and begins to focus dark power.

"I said stop it!" Unsheathing my sword I run at it, but before I can reach the figure two blurs come out from behind the cars and block the path. They are two girls in dark-colored gym clothes with belts around the chest and the waist, their faces covered by a black cat-like mask.

""No one must interfere."" They both say in unison with a robotic tone. Holding out their hands shards of stone jut out of their skin and form a crude dagger.

"Tetsuya, they're both Horrors!" Mikazuki manages to say before they change at me.

[X] Target Horror 1: Sheath Throw, Sword Strike, Rising Sword Strike, Block, Sword Strike, Sword Strike

Since daggers have shorter range, I think using mainly sword attacks to keep out of their range should be a decent strategy. Block is there to recover HP just in case.

Can't say for sure, but those two horrors could be transformed mook Shinobi, based on their outfits. Seems like someone is turning weak Shinobi into horrors he then controls. Probably Dogen. Turning the students of his own school into monsters that fight for him is totally something he would do.

Of course the masks could also be just a coincidence, but I doubt it. We might know for sure once we fought them.
