Howl, Makai Knight! (Garo/Senran Kagura)

I didn't really notice him as being significantly more bullshit than Kouga or Ryuuga myself.

With Leon, Kouga, Raikou, and Ryuga whenever they fought a lesser Horror they were clearly trying even if they dominated the fight, for Raiga, it wasn't a question if he'd win it was how awesome and cool he was while doing it; a true Showy Invincible Hero.

For perspective, here's Raiga's fight against Zaji, he casually pulls off destructive feats that other Garo need super modes to perform with only his horse. This was also the only fight in the season where Raiga was pressed in a fair fight.

For more perspective when Zaji fought Kouga he didn't have that form and gave Kouga unlimited time in his armor.

hm....wow, so getting your horse is a really important part of being a Knight.....and you only get one shot at obtaining it right? Fail and you don't get another chance?

I can remember several Horror fights in Makai no Hana where Raiga didn't effortlessly win, even with the help of Crow and/or Bikuu. The manga artist Horror; the corrupted Knight Izumo who took Raiga, Crow, and Bikuu to defeat, with serious effort even then; that musician horror; that golem horror; and the Horror that pretended to create an illusion of his daughter.

And that's the only time Raiga does something like that with Gouten, which was in a different dimension and was the fight where he acquired it, so it's to be expected that that fight would be pretty spectacular.

And a huge increase in headaches from two very different secret societies interacting that you're neglecting to mention.
One complication I can think of would definetely be that the Makai Order is completely against harming humans, while Shinobi tend to kill quite a few of them. Yes, even the good Shinobi. IIRC, it's never explicitly mentioned in detail, but it's implied and I seriously doubt that all the lesser shinobi you fight over the course of the games survive the encounters.

Hell, Asuka and co kill the Hebijo girls in the first game and they only survive because their death is immediately used to fuel Orochis resurrection, so they get revived when the incompletely resurrected Orochi is defeated and their souls are freed in the process.

Romance is treated as a nuetral thing, if it doesn't get in the way of your job or title, you're golden. The thing the Order ultimately cares about in the longterm is your ability to pass down your skills, armor, title, powers, ect to the next generation to fight Horrors, this can be done through a child or taking in a apprentice. Hence Garo being used by four known families for example.
Romance in the context of a Makai Knight is a double-edged sword. On one hand, a signficant other can offer more moral support than almost anyone else in a person's life. If that significant other dies in a tragic manner... :(

We all know that, even if Rokuro doesn't ask us any questions, he will probably mention the exchange to Ichiko. And then she might tell on us. Baskerville and Akio-senpai really don't approve of the outsiders Tetsuya keeps bringing into the fold. Although hiding it for too long would look really suspect. Telling Baskerville is probably something that should happen eventually.

Now that I think about it, Ichiko might be happy to give an answer, if only to prove that she knows more than Tetsuya does. I could tell how happy she was when Tetsuya called her up for help. She might still be bitter about the last time, though.

Tally:

I think majority is clear. So, as I re-watched Golden Storm I thought if an hypothetical sequel to this quest would be better set after the events of Vol City, and what kind of person would Tetsuya's descendant be, without intruding on an already existing character's niche
My first thought was a crossdresser trap that search for the meaning of true strength. Don't judge me harshly please

It's why I really, really want one.

s why I don't want us to romance a normal human.
I can just see that ending so very badly.

Arc 5.9: Looking for Darkness
[X] No

Eventually I decide to not contact Rokuro. Even if he trusts me, with how close he is with Ichiko she will likely learn of it sooner or later.

Also, who knows if fortifying a place against Horrors would not end attracting their attention. If I was a Horror, I would certainly be curious to know why a certain place is warded against me when it doesn't seem to house Makai Knights or Priests.

"Let's go Haruno."

====

For our first stop Haruno brings me to the local university. "I'm following a Bachelor of Science." She explains as we walk inside the campus. "That reminds me, do Makai Knights go to school?"

"No. We train in secret locations, so we're home-schooled." I tell her. "I have the equivalent of an high-school's education and a general training in a lot of general jobs for the purpose of infiltration and mingle with the crowd."

"So Tetsuya-kun never went to a normal school..." She looks ahead while speaking, so I cannot see her face. "I suspected as much: it explains a lot."

I blink in confusion. A lot of what?

"Haruno-san!" A group of people approach us. "Where are you been? I know you probably don't need it, but you could follow the lessons sometime at least."

"Sorry! Sorry! The truth is..." She hugs my arm and winks. "I've been busy making a new friend!"

"Yah! Who's he? He's cool!"

"Is he a new band member?"

"Haruno-san is hugging you! I am so jealous man!"

And that's how I end making acquaintances with Haruno's large group of friends. She sure is popular.

'Gate at twelve o'clock.' Mikazuki informs me at one point.

"Found one." I whisper to Haruno. I apologize for my rudeness before leaving to follow Mikazuki's indications, Haruno behind me.

I find the Gate in a storage room, an anatomical manikin that seems to not have been used for a long time. "This one." I point at it.

"This old thing is a Gate?" Haruno wonders while staying at a safe distance. "What now?"

"Observe." I retrieve the Kiba Sword from within my duster, unsheathe it and stab the blade into the sign's shadow. Pulling back the blade brings with it a cloud of dark energy. "See this Haruno? This is the stain left behind by evil karma."

I take a stance and, focusing my ki, slash through the cloud. The dark energy gives out a shrill cry only I can hear before dispersing, purified. I sheath the Kiba Sword and put it back.

"Is it...safe now?" She asks, face and voice completely serious as she stares at the manikin like it's a poisonous snake ready to strike.

"Yes. Just simple plastic now." I tap it as a demonstration. "Was this the only Gate?"

"There is one-no, two more."

Once all Gates in and around the university are purified Haruno has me check the dorm where she shares a room with another student, said student for Inga and other people she defines as 'hiding too much'.

Then it's the turn of the apartment where her sister, Yukino, apparently lives. It's a good thing Mikazuki remembers her from the time I was posing as the janitor and she's at school now, I don't think I would have been able to explain our actions without sounding suspicious, and I am not sure Haruno could have done better. "Didn't you say she live alone?"

"Yep!" She replies while opening the door. "My dear Yukino-chan wants to prove she's a grown-up, and Father was feeling generous at the time."

"Then why do you have her home's keys?"

"I'm her big sister, it's only natural I have a copy of her keys and all her passwords."

No, somehow there is still something wrong. At least the area turns out clear of Gates.

====

Finally, Haruno brings me to her parents' home, a luxurious mansion in the more modern area of the city. "Woah woah! This is one lady home!" Mikazuki whistles when me and Haruno are alone in the main hall. "Haruno-chan, are you parents rich or what?"

"Just a little." She says with a joking tone. "Father is the CEO of a construction company and a member of the Diet."

I nod. "That's impressive."

"You think so? But I'm sure-" She grins, one hand coming up to cover her mouth. "That you Makai Knights have one or more members on your payroll."

"I don't know about the Diet, but we have ties with the Imperial Family." I reply, remembering Okita's lessons.

Somehow Haruno manages to stumble without moving. "With the Chrysanthemum Throne?!"

"Correct. If I remember right, the Minamoto and Fujiwara clans hosted a lineage of Knights for many centuries."

"Why do I keep getting surprised?" She asks herself with a resigned tone. "Well, Father and Mother don't seem to be home, they would already be there otherwise, so-"

"Haruno? Is that you?" A male voice comes from the top of the stairs.

"Fuck." She suddenly hisses, eyes cold and emotionless. "Play along. And call me Haruno-san for now."

I silently nod. Whoever this person is, she must dislike him a lot.

Switching back to a smile she turns to face the man coming down the stairs, a foreigner by his looks. "James! I didn't know you were here."

"I had something to discuss with your father, but he had to leave suddenly." He looks at me. "You are?"

"James. This is Tetsuya, a friend." Haruno introduces me before I can open my mouth. "Tetsuya-kun. This is James, my boyfriend."

Boyfriend? By her previous expression I would have never guessed. I smile and hold out my hand. "Nice to meet you."

"..Yes, likewise." He hesitates for a fraction of second before shaking my hand.

Haruno claps her hands. "Sorry Tetsuya-kun, but at this point we will have to deal with that matter another time. I'll call you."

"Alright. Haruno-san, James-san: goodbye." I say before leaving by the way I came.

"Somehow, somehow I feel like we missed something important." Mikazuki comments once outside.

"Like what?"

"I don't know. I don't completely get human interactions yet."

"Is that so? In any case, I don't think it's our business to mind." I reply while looking around. "Come on, let's check the area for Gates."

I feel a Boss Fight approaching, let's be rested for it.

We did just say we're going looking for Gates. :V

We were also about to go to sleep before Haruno showed up. If the 'and prevent Exhaustion State' wasn't listed on Rest, I'd be fine with doing something else. But the chances of running into that cloaked person that's been summoning Horrors is pretty likely tonight, and unnecessarily weakening ourselves would be bad.

@Alexander89, what penalties does the Exhaustion State impose?

I figure since we're here and all we might as well check the area out. And better a horror finds us than someone who can't defend himself if there really is one lurking in the area.

Horrors aren't active at all when the sun's still up barring that fluke with the dog Horror and Homura's shinobi barrier.

Looking for Gates is just that, looking for Gates.

Stamina Checks at certain intervals. Failure makes you lose dices during turns.
Yea, i definitely don't want to have to deal with that when we can easily avoid it.

In other news I finished Gold Storm Sho, overall I think the show started out strong but stumbled a bit during the lead up to the final arc, especially when Rian got possessed and Ryuga faced his darkness and events kinds went "Jinga wins because the plot says so". I was also confused about how Ryuga got to become a kaiju, and did the Makai Order wipe everyone's memories after Radan's rampage or not?

Though I do think Gold Storm had its strong points, Ryuga was a much better Garo than last time, the villain of the week episodes were solid, despite the plot jerking him around I found Daigo a better supporting Knight than Takeru and Aguri, and Gald got good character development, Garo Dark vs Ginga was epic both times, and I liked the back and forth tug of war that went on between the Horrors and the Order during the first two-thirds of the show.

For the villains Jinga was pretty good, there have been better but there have been worse Garo Big Bad's. I'd rate him above Ashiya Douman , Sigma, Eiji, and Tousei, but not up to par with the best villains Ring, Barago, and Mendosa. He was a deliciously evil asshole that you loved to hate but I think they should have expanded upon who he was as a human to better examine his justifications for his hedonism and nihilism better. Jinga was good, but could have been better, his best moments when he made me go "What an asshole!"

Sorry if this isn't the place, but this quest got me to watch Garo again so I decided to post my thoughts of the show.
