If just infecting a bunch of people with shadows was feasible, I think the Denarians would have done it by now. It's more likely that, until Hiver's head infestation is resolved, the coin only really works for him.
And I'm reminded again why I like this forum more out of the two.
As regards the actual story, I think if I ran into a coin and touched it, I'd probably start trying to negotiate for a better deal for myself taking the 'I will get taken over' as a given. Dresden had a hard time winning that mental fight, and this is a man who says 'no' to masters of manipulation like white court, red court, fae nobility, and a wide range of other nominally unstoppable super-monsters. And I know I'm no Dresden.
So I'm kind of assuming it's when, not if, the SI has to start working with her out of pure self-defence. She can wait, she has time.
I tend to assume, much like the various fae nobility from Dresdenverse, her mentality is Cthulhu with Fantastic Legs ... which is to say, regardless of what they look like, their internal mindset is more alien that we can conceive of.
There is a rider here, as Dresden himself took advantage of, that this is talking about the actual Taziel. The shadow Taziel is a different matter, as she's provably running on his brain-meats, so is going to have to be a lot closer to human than the real Taziel. Even if she could leave the coin, I don't think Taziel could run on a human neural structure, leaving aside probable massive issues of scale (trying to run All Of Google on your phone), I think the architecture is just not even remotely compatible. I fully expect that the non-coin angels that have shown up would have similar issues as well trying to do that. Angels are _really different_.
What I don't understand Is why nobody ever encases the coin in some metal or an enamel coating or something, that way you can carry it around with reduced risk of direct contact.

That's why my solution would be to wrap it in carefully sealed cloth and store it in a special pocket in a jacket or something that is just big enough to hold it in between layers of material.
Well, as I see it, it's less "you're screwed" and more "you'll accomplish their goals anyway".
Granted, those goals might end with you being screwed, but it is doubtful it will be the end goal...
Well it is generally ill-advised to advertise the fact you've killed humans, or at least bringing attention to it.
I actually rather like the passage, since it shows a nice bit of subterfuge through honesty.
@Tamahori Agreed. I know so little about the Dresdenverse that I'd probably just accept it and try to work out the best ending for myself I can. Not to say I wouldn't want to help innocent people as well, but in the end I'm the one that's probably going to face an eternity of torment. Why would I make it even harder on myself?
I think that it would be assumed that "lady" could be substituted for "person" whilst keeping the meaning behind the sentence subjectively the same. Whatever.

Well it shouldn't really matter how much you know, beyond if you know about the denarians.
If you assume all Denarians are horrifyingly evil master manipulators who want to skull fuck your soul and use your body as a meat puppet, you're fucked whatever you do, since you literally can do nothing but mildly delay the inevitable before you either get killed or "fall into temptation."
If you assume that they can at least be reasonable, if even only to their host, the best way to proceed is to find out what you can about their goals and deal with them in a rational manner, because even if they're not the "ULTIMATE EVIL!!!" they will still probably try to get the most out of any deal you strike with them.
Either way, you eventually have to deal with the fact that the Fallen Angel is now a part of your life, and that won't change until your theoretical death.
Unless, of course, you somehow have the capabillities to gain any sort of victory against them, but in that case there is a near zero chance they will attempt to face you on that battlefield.

True, while being native to England, my english sucks. Now mathematics on the otherhand... no sir, I did fall asleep in you lesson. Yes I totally spent the last few minutes figuring out the answer, not in my head and a few seconds at all.

I'm not Harry "Tell Nicodemus to go fuck himself to his face." Dresden, you can't get the echo out of your head without something really odd happening, and I lack the willpower to either face it down or do the smart thing and kill myself. So my plan would be to put the coin somewhere safe for a bit, and negotiate with the Echo to get the best deal I can (as I said above, the Echo is a lot closer to human that what made them, so will be a tiny bit more flexible and understanding what you want out of this) before I formally take up the coin.
Do remember, the echo can mess with your perceptions, it's next to impossible to beat them, they can make you see things that aren't there, not see things that are, make you kill somebody you love thinking your fighting off a crazed attacker, or if they just want to get rid of you get you to walk into traffic. Unless you are somewhat superhuman on stubbornness (based on the other stories, I'm willing to grant that the Hiver SI character _is_ very very stubborn, far more so than me), then it's not 'will I win', it's 'what kind of deal can I get'.
The Lash echo manages to create the character Shiela and make Harry think she's real for some time, this includes some degree of physical interaction.
I'm not saying Hiver should be doing any of this, I have a very low opinion of my willpower in general, and especially if a beautiful woman is involved. If ever showed up in Dresdenverse with my head full of information that could get Harry killed (his full name, some of the deals he's made, what Bob is, etc) honestly the smart thing for Harry to do would be kill me and hide the body before somebody gets the information out of me via torture, magic, or just Being Lara Raith (or similar levels of hot and manipulative ... in this setting, that's a lot of people who have reasons to want Harry under their control).
This is the problem Hiver has here, his character has impressive willpower and thinks really well under pressure, but is in the end Only Human. Saying that, Buffy is a setting where an Only Human type can make a different, Xander is just the start of that, though often it ends up messing them up or changing them in many ways. The question is what kind of change are you willing to accept, and given what's already happened with Doomguy, Hiver is well aware that it's 'what am I giving my humanity up for'.
And all respect to him, he's been making these choices already. Doomguy is a required sacrifice, Taziel is a step too far. He is not setting himself up for an easy time, but he's the one that has to make the choices and he's making them and I can't say he's in anyway way wrong with the choices he's made.
