"HANDS OFF MY STUFF!" Fighting the Adventurer Menace

A competent, friendly adventurer?

I wonder whether keeping her on retainer as a bodyguard would be passe.
Does "Passe" mean "prohibitively expensive"?

If So, then yes. :p

But establishing a working relationship and regularly hiring her may be possible.

Also, I just realised I forgot to argue for my vote.

Basically, we have upwards of three thousand gold waiting for us if we do this, and by requesting it as parts, we simultaneously make it less stealable, and give ourselves the tools to further deter theft.

Also, waiting too long to tell someone where you placed traps in a house they own is a poor look.

She's taking 500 gold to go around on a hunt that will take an unknown amount of time, and expose her to unknown dangers, because she's terrible with handling money.

100 gold a day to walk around town/to classes with us and stop us from getting mugged seems pretty reasonable, given that- Plus, it's a steady paycheck... For as long as we are alive to pay her.

Given we get hundreds of gold every day we teach classes, I think we can safely afford to set a hundred or two aside in order to get a guard.

Tomorrow morning in-universe.
Cheers.

From the sound of it, it was more because she was in a rough patch, and had few better options,
Bad day again, Lorena?" The Elise, bartender at the Hammer and Ales asks the woman who just sat down at the bar. The woman is dressed in a purple and white stripped robe, the hood pulled up to cover her face.

"Yeah... last job fell through and some punk picked my pockets." The woman answered. "I'm about three days away from having to sell this thing just to afford a room for the night" The woman answers. She gestures to a magical staff. It is bright gold, with the tip being carved into a stylized sun. The staff was made of a high quality wood, but the sun, as well as the spear tip on the opposite end was made of steel.

True. And actually, looking at that reminded me: If we were going to try to recruit her as a permanent/regular bodyguard, one angle would be to offer her lodgings as part of the deal, or maybe throw it in for free.

It sounds generous, until you realise that it basically gives us a good chance of having a guard whenever we get invaded again. :p

We've been making 500-600 gold a day for five days a week, IIRC; I'd be willing to throw a thousand a week, plus free room and board, at a trustworthy and skilled guard, as that should leave us with plenty money for renovations- Especially if we take side jobs building 'Security Systems' for people as well.

Given the update where Lorena accepted the job mentioned that 500 gold would keep her in good shape for a week, two if she stretched it out, this should be a fairly generous offer I think? It depends on Lorena's broader circumstances, of course, but if she was considering pawning her wizards staff for the money to rent a room, I would imagine she's not exactly got a whole lot of job opportunities in the wings.

Of course, we only know this OOC, not IC, and it's entirely possible that witchgirl would find the offer entirely uncompelling.

We still have a unidentified Ring and the fighting training in the evening, and then there is the Farm with the 500 Gold.
We are rather busy this day's, huh.

You walk to Domonic's house. You were expecting the same house you had seen earlier. A modest house, a few crops on the side. The same house you pass by whenever you need to travel south. And you expected the inside of his him to be modest, with most of his money tied up into his club.

All of your expectations were met.

But he clearly didn't expect you do ask for your pay in parts.

"Really? I... hm..." He seems to be trying to find the right words, so you say something.

"Look, I just got rob- someone took something from me when I was walking to town. If they followed me, I want to make damn sure I'm ready for them" You decide that telling him that someone broke into your home wasn't the best idea. Especially since you're being paid to protect his property.

"Well... I'll speak to my suppliers. I should be able to have everything delivered by tomorrow" He says.

"A pleasure doing business with you" You say. "If you need and thing else, just let me know"

"I'll keep that in mind. But for now..." He says. "You said you were robbed. If he took something valuable and distinct, I may be able to track him down. I have some friends in the City Guard that may be able to find what they stole from you."

"And what's the catch?" You ask.

"Asking the city guard to investigate is free. Actually getting something done is expensive. You'll still get most of what you're looking for either way. I'll need to keep some of the payment"

You think about it. Those gauntlets looked expensive. Expensive enough that someone would either want to sell them or would be wearing them everywhere. There are only a few places that it could be sold to.

It's not even about the stuff that got stolen. It's about spite. And deterrence. But mostly spite.

Going after the shinies will probably raise our heat, and I'm not convinced we could use them all that effectively anyway. Besides, if they're that good, what's stopping the guards from taking it and saying they weren't able to find anything

I get the feeling we will need a High roll to catch the guys who stole from us.

Heat Level: Guarded by traps. Owner is a paranoid nut and has a lot of stuff. Though the second floor is unexplored.
Welp. Our heat just went up. Considerably.

So basically, fuck the thief that robbed us after the assault. I'dda let it slide had he kept mum, but if he's carrying tales on us, endangering us on top of the theft, that engages my spite.

More practically, it seems unlikely to raise our heat any more, now, and we are likely to gain more than we lose by pursuing it.

We will need to turn our place into even more of a trap-fuelled nightmare.

I wonder whether magic training or the magic shop would be a better place to go to specifically look for the mana labourer (or whatever the man soldier-like worker summon is) spell?

Th magic teacher did say we should study magic on our own for a while, so I guess we're meant to pick up some more spells and such before trying to get another level of magic skill.

What do people think of this plan of action for the rest of the day:
->Visit the magic shop, to look for self-defence stuff, and see what sort of useful spells they have. Hopefully some things that will increase our trap-setting speed.
->Maybe pop down to the hardware store and get enough parts to make that fix to our gate traps that I mentioned earlier, and about an action's worth of traps besides, to cut down on time-wasteage.
->Learn spells, fix traps, etc.
->Something cool if time permits. Expansion plans, scoping out exotic pets, etc.

By the by, @MData, do we know of anyone specifically hunting the bandits at our gramps' farm?

Just letting on about their location could be enough to clear them out.
