"HANDS OFF MY STUFF!" Fighting the Adventurer Menace

Wait couldn't having a trap that triggers at the front gate have a habit of going terribly wrong? I mean what if we needed to run away and come morning a innocent bystander who was cheking up on Def gets killed because of our trap?
Agreed, but Solution: make the front gate trap armed by triggering an inside trap. As such, it will only stop them going out / trying to escape..

The Spike and Chain Trap is similar to what you're thinking of/ It binds the leg and immobilizes the target.

Before I start to write the update, I just want to make sure I understand this.

1. You want a Pressure Plate at the gate.

2. You want an on/off switch that controls it. And you want that on/off switch to be triggered by the front door.

3. You want the pressure plate to control several traps.

4. You want the traps to fire from the gate to the house when the pressure plate is triggered.

Is that right?
Just to make sure it's completely explicit:
->The pressure plate it is triggered by the front door of the house, not anything at the gate.
->The scythe trap at the gate is set us as usual to hit whoever triggered the pressure plate.
->The blade launchers at the gate are intended to fire through the space occupied by the triggerer of the traps, towards the house.

The intent here is to have a set of traps that will only be triggered when a robbery has started, that hit the first to flee with one scythe and two blade traps, with a fair amount of overflow flying towards the house, hitting any accomplices in the courtyard.

Is that clearer?

You are absolutely right, damnit.

That doesn't actually solve the problem. With the current setup, once the internal traps have been triggered, the traps at the gate will be dangerous to anyone coming or leaving. Anyone investigating the clearly burgled property, even for legitimate reasons, is seriously at risk.

I have two solutions, one short-term fix, and one that solves it completely, but takes, like, 16-odd parts.

The first is to just hang a sign up by the gates, saying: "Warning: Premises are trapped. Do not attempt to break in. Do not enter while breakin is in progress."

That should hopefully deter anyone with a legit cause to enter the house.

The second involves a pressure plate and two on/off switches. This second pressure plate we put of the outside entrance to the front gate, and tie it to the breaking of the front door, same as the inner traps. When triggered, it uses the other on/off switch to disarm the traps at the gate.

I'm sorry to say, but there is a long way between the gate and the front door. Several hundred feet, in fact. A scythe trap set up at the gate doesn't have the reach to hit someone at the front door.
Yewhat?

I meant that there should be a pressure plate at the gate, with a scythe trap at the gate, set up to cut down anyone who steps on said pressure plate. (With blade launchers firing from the gate in the general direction of the house at the same time, to catch the escaping adventurer and anyone standing nearby them.)

Unless by "whoever triggers the pressure plate" you thought I meant "whoever breaks the front door and arms the pressure plate"?

Your confusion confuses me. -_-

So the gate trap gets armed after they have passed it?
That is correct. It is a trap designed to kill anyone who survives the traps in our house and attempts to make off with our valuables.

Having no reason to doubt that ground they had previously traversed was not safe, home invaders are unlikely to try scaling the walls instead, and have a good chance of stumbling into that final trap.

Well guys, I have good news for myself, but bad news for the quest.

After months of applying for different jobs, I've finally gotten hired. This is good because I actually have a consistent job. However, I may have less time for this quest, my other quest, or other things.

However, I am still determined to continue this quest. The next update will be up by the end of the day.

Setting Up
[X] Start setting up traps. (Applying safe steps as you go)
-[X] Install the security lock in the front door, then set up a pair of blade launcher traps and a spiked chain trap to fire at the area in front of the door when it is tampered with, to hopefully catch anyone standing around for their thief buddy to break in. (25 parts)
-[X] Set up a pressure plate on the floor beneath the door to our gate, with an on/off switch that arms it when the front door has been triggered. Set up a swinging scythe trap, and a pair of blade throwers to fire from the door towards the house when the pressure plate is triggered. (25 parts)
-[X] Set up a scything blade trap near our stash, to catch anyone trying to steal from us. (7 parts, total 57 parts used.)

As the sun keeps rising, you keep working. You have big plans for your home. Protecting your stash of gold and items, making sure that there were traps to take out anyone who was trying to run away with your stuff.

You don't get everything done. You still need to install the scythe trap over your stash. Some of which you still need to sell. One of the blade launchers near your front gate doesn't trigger and the other one falls apart every time it launches a blade, so you need to fix those as well.

*Growls*

But it can wait until you have breakfast.

[X] Have breakfast, finish trap setup.

I had an idea: what if we asked Dinapoli to pay us in kind with parts? That would be a good way to get stupid amounts of parts while flying relatively under the radar. He's doing a renovation, so the extra parts ain't gonna be noticed, and can probably be trusted not to put it about.

Sounds good if it can happen. Otherwise gold isn't bad either.

@MData, sorry to bug you about this again, but I didn't quite get your answer last time:

Are we expected to contact Dinapoli to tell him about the plans, recieve payment, mention the escape tunnel, etc? Or are we expecting him to contact us at some point?

Finishing Up
Finishing up the construction was a simple task. It's nothing you haven't done before. But while you're working, your mind keeps wandering off. You wonder if anyone has taken your job.

-------------------------------------------------------

"Well... that could have gone better. But it could have gone a lot worse"

Lorena looked around at the alley where her latest fight had taken place. After cashing a few more favors that she would have liked, she found about a group of thugs that were seen where the kidnappings took place. The plan was to follow them until they got back to their hideout. But then they spotted her in an alley.

Maybe wearing a bright cloak was a bad idea.

But that brought her here. Three dead men and women in front of her and a fourth man clutching a knife. A knife with a guided hilt, a shiny blade, and some enchantments embedded in it.

Not exactly the kind of blade a common street thug would carry.

"Alright, good news, I'm not going to kill you" She says to the thug in a bored tone. "But you are going to answer some questions for me. You could do it voluntarily, or involuntarily. But you are going to do it" Her eyes start go glow a deep purple at the end of the sentence.

"I... I ain't telling you nothing! Fuck you" The man says, seemingly unperturbed by the fate of the other three. Or maybe he was, and was panicking.

Lorena shrugs. "Your funeral" She says as she summons a ball of dark energy.

-------------------------------------------------------
And a few hours later, you're done. All of your traps are in place and working perfectly. The morning sun is high in the air and you still have the entire day in front of you.

We really need to prepare something good for Lorena, she scary and awesome.
How about money? :p

If she returns the one non-shitheel cordial member of our family, I'd be up for paying her a bonus.

[X] Visit Dominic Dinapoli.
-[X] Give him the layout of the traps, and instructions on their proper use, and tell him about the escape hidden in his basement.
--[X] Ask him if he'd be willing to pay around three quarters of our pay in parts, at the rate he can get them from his supplier, explaining that we need many parts to bring our home defences up to scratch, but can't afford to be seen splashing huge amounts of money around. accept a small reduction in pay for the inconvenience, if necessary.

@MData, when are we next teaching?

Edit: added a sentence to end of vote.
