Missing Persons
"Have a good day Def. We'll get that order to you soon" The man behind the counter says.

"Thanks. I'll be sure to put this stuff to good use" You say. But before you can leave, you hear a familiar voice.

"Def!"

You don't look at the source of the voice. If it is who you think it is, you aren't going to talk to him. Even if he didn't send you that letter a few days ago.

"Hey Def, it's me, Alin"

You take a short glance in his direction. Alin looks just like the brother you remember. He's around 22 years old, three years younger than you. However, because of his short stature, it makes him look slightly younger. He's dressed like you are, cheap brown clothing, though he doesn't have a cloak like you do.

"Look, I know you're probably angry at me. I would be too. But I'm sorry, alright!" Alin says, pleading. If this was nine years ago, you'd believe him. But Alin... he really only cares about Alin. There were people that were worse than him, but... you don't exactly trust him. "Look, everyone else was writing those letters. I-I-I don't know why I did it. I just did. I'm sorry"

You sigh. You may be angry at him, but he's still your brother. You may as well hear him out so you can properly tell him 'no'. "Alright, what do you want, Alin?" You ask. "You never apologize unless you want something" You hold up a box of nails, trying to see if you should get it or buy a larger box.

Alin sighs. You see a well rehearsed smile appear on his face. "Look, I know we don't get along, but thanks for hearing me out"

You make a non-committal sound.

"Look, I know you and Taylor got along. I just want to know... did he come over to your place?"

You drop the box of nails you're holding. "What?" Taylor's missing? You knew it was strange that he didn't write a letter, if only to say he was sorry.

"It's just that, he had a fight with mom two days ago" Alin says. You can hear the worry in his voice, worry that you think may be genuine. "He stormed out and... no one's seen him since. We told the City Guard, but they haven't found anything yet. I was thinking that, maybe he was staying with you"

You shake your head. "I haven't seen him, but I'll keep an eye out. I just... I just hope he's just staying at an inn in the city. Or he finally ran away and became a bard like he always said he'd do"

"I hope so too" Alin says. "Just... if you find him, let him know that we mi-just... make sure he's safe."

"No problem" You say. "I'll keep an eye out"

"Alright, thanks Def" Alin said. "And... good luck"

As Alin leaves, you think. You have no doubt that Alin was lying about being sorry about the letter. But right now, you were more worried about Taylor.

He might be hurt. He may just be staying at your grandmother's. You just hope that he is alright.

City

[] Silver Shark Weapons Shop: Most of the weapons were sold to the store by adventurers, and most of them are bought by adventurers as well. Has a large, constantly changing stock.
[] Go to the Margery's General Store. It has little bit of everything. Some of it possibly stolen.
[] Go to the Howes Hardware: Store. It has all the parts you need to make some traps.
[] Go to the Sparking Mountain Magic Shop: From spellbooks, runes, to magical devices that anyone can use, this shop has it all.
[] The Hammer and Ales Tavern: You never know what, or who you'll find there. Also a good place to get wasted. Sometimes also has jobs from locals.
- [] Drink.
- [] Look for work.
- [] Listen to local news.
- [] Learn how to fight.
[] Exotic Imports: A place that sells exotic animals. Officially, they are meant to just be used as pets but some of them can be... aggressive.
[] Saint de la Salle Learning Center: A place for people to teach and learn. Can be used to train skills. Or to teach if you need some extra money.
[] The White Lily: A place where the rich and connected in society associate with each other. Could be a great place to make friends. Provided you can get in.
[] Find the Workshop. Maybe you could find some work.Or some hints.
[] Go to the Tiger's Tail. From what little you've heard of it, it's seedy. Much seedier than Hammer and Ales.
- [] Drink.

If we are going to be renovating anyway we might as well start on turning our house into a proper dungeon. Afterwards we might want to finally learn how to fight.
We should probably do this first before buying anything else since we don't know how much it would cost.

We still need to spend that money.

Can we put a warning up at the wall? I really don't want our brother to stumble into our home and get skewered.

Okay how about this?

-[] Before that put up a warning sign to warn those would try to break into our home that our home is rigged with lethal traps and that the owner will defend herself with lethal force.

Sounds good. People are stupid, but at least this way we should avoid accidentialling people.

can this sign advertising we are using lethal force be stylized with our brand name, so that others can hire us for their security in the future? Someone write something catchy.

Clearly trying to encourage them.

Surviving traps give XP.

Maybe we'd hear something of him

An extra source of income? Me? I'm the guy that was more than happy to play "teacher's quest" and spend all our actions hanging around a school teaching troubled youth that they have a future outside of the adventurer gangs.

Let's not put the sign, that will only encourage the adventurers.

Let's try to find him.

As for keeping our traps from going off on the wrong people maybe someday we could figure out a way to enhance a Detector Lock so that it going off primes the traps.

Might I remind everyone that our house is still very much not secure for our heat level, and that we will need all of the parts we just bought to make it so.

Expanding our house is something we can think about when we have good enough home and personal security that every wasted moment does not add to our risk of robbery or worse. It will not be sensible to expand our house for quite some time.

As a wise man once said: "Eyes on the prey, not the horizon".

I propose the following course of action instead:
-> Go to the magic shop to get things appraised, sell magic loot and buy some extra protection. A magic trinket is probably our fastest way of increasing our personal survivability/killiness the fastest.
-> sketch up a trapdoor pit trap, allowing us to actually use the fucking things.
-> expand our home's traps, and maybe put a sign up warning against forced entry.

[X] Go to the Sparking Mountain Magic Shop: From spellbooks, runes, to magical devices that anyone can use, this shop has it all.

I reiterate: expansion plans are not going to benefit us for the foreseeable future, and we have more important things that need doing yesterday.
