Halkegenia Online Thread 22 - Kill Sheffield Vol. 2

Hence why defusing her this way is so effective. If she's going to run her mouth and call herself a Queen, fine, she'll have to take her lumps as a Queen as well, including confinement as a prisoner until time that her captors see fit to release her.

Forgiveness does more to garner long term friendly relations then imprisonment and blackmail.

It also doesn't run the risk of the Aquatic Mobs going out of control without Octavia around to keep them in check. Or the Naiads getting hunted by slavers without Octavia around to protect them. Or the Mobs and Naiads deciding they need to rescue Octavia by going on the offensive against Tristian to get her back.

1. Octavia shows intent to harm if they resist by the sheer fact they attack, and the bubbles the crabs use.

2. Octavia recognizes herself as a soverign queen even if she's not recognized by others. If Henrietta decides to recognize her as a queen, then her actions can construed as an act of war.

3. No, the Djinn are Solomon but Solomon is not the Djinn. To clearify, Solomon cannot be held accountable for what the Djinn do because the collective mass are not him until they combine - they are their own entity with very little thought processes. Thus he is not the Djinn but they are him.

4. I'll say it again, that crown is the equivalent of a weapon of mass destruction when it is in Octavia's hands. Since she has not shown the maturity, responsibility, or the restraint not to use it against Tristain and it's citizens, they are well within their rights to withhold it. You don't hand weapons to a potential threat.

I agree, however it just seems pointless to me to have Octavia in the battle for Freelia. We've already seen Octavia here, having her take some time off screen allows for her return to be all awesome and stuff. It hits the Shounen trope right on the head.

True, the timing would be a little forced if the war starts too suddenly. Though this could be mitigated by TH adding a bit more filler snips between the Beach episode and the War. The conclusion between Shiori, Matilda, and Albion. The latest madness TRIST is up to and the newest Pixie member welcomed on staff. A look into how Louise is doing. How's Botan's search for her sisters going? Guiche's headaches with trying to be mature and serious with a unit that's clearly not. Enya grinding her teeth at the attention she gets in the academy from the stupid people and discovering the 'Staff of Destruction.' Etc.

There's still plenty of potential for a few light hearted scenes that takes the spotlight away from Octavia for a while.

And as stated her contribution to the battle can be written to be notable, but not a turning point that ends it. She does what she can, but the Reconquista air ships get out of range, and it's up to Tristan and the Fae from then on.

Okay then. I think I've made my decision. Go find something else to argue about!
How will the pope's declaration that Reconquista is using Necromancy effect the war effort in Albion?

After all if all it took was declaring Joseph being heretical to turn half of Gallia against him what will it do to Cromwell's support?

What is TRIST's next major project?

Cannons are probably hitting large scale production. Chemisty labs are probably playing with making something better than black powder for explosives and propellent. Agricultural machine production has begun in bulk. Rifle and some textile machine designs are being played with.

And by now Hyuuga probably has her tabletop steam engines working as a proof of concept.

Well they could also bypass Freelia entirely and hit someplace else in the country.

Personally if it were me I would send a couple fast cutters to firebomb some of the grain fields. Maybe have some dragon knights do a quick strike on Tristain's shipyards or powder mills.

You don't want to leave an enemy strong point in the rear unless you divert forces to bottle it up -which given the size of Freelia will be ALOT of forces...

Totally forgot Freelia was now the closest point to Albion. Also defensive wars are a bad idea. You have to break the momentum of the OpFor before you can strike back. Useless that is you are doing it as a feint to draw the enemy into an encircled position in which case you can pull a Cannae on them and obliterate their forces. However, encirclement many not be as effective due to the availability of air support.

No no staying on defensive all them time TACTICALLY is bad - its fine to wage a Defensive war - that is to be on the defense STRATEGICALLY. Such a war would entail classical defense, counter-offensives, raids. But on the whole for now Tristan is not going to invade Albion on its own - which means it is fighting a defensive war. Plus a defensive war means interior lines for easier logistics and movement of troops. You know Mortimer knows about Frederick the Great.

In other words, this has 'extenuating circumstances' out the wazoo

The Lawyers rejoice!

I don't think its possible but I can't help but picture the other Shiori laughing at the one with Tiff when they see her in a dress.

Might be a bit too soon for the cannons to reach large scale production.

They should realistically only be at the point of getting the bell molds and drills together right now. Along with working out the logistics of getting the increase in materials to their foundries.

I can't wait till she pulls her's out only for one of the Academy students to call it out as a copy of Colbet's. :D

....now I can't get the image out of my head of Balandene retreating into a secluded aquarium somewhere, complaining about how things aren't the same any more, and having someone else commiserating. Have some form of One Dialog Two Conversations....with the person in the tank behind her!

Second the motion.
Balandene, therapist to Oceanic Queens.

Can we turn Octavia into Aquaman from batman the brave and the bold? Essentially a boisterous and proud blue haired Asuna running around punching people.

The chance of increasing influx of food via Nyraid fish farm trades sounds like a huge boon for Tristainia. How many additional man power could they dedicate to industry and war?

Best mental image EVAR!!!

Goodie, now they're getting some firepower. The army will have plenty of food, the weapons will be more accurate and hit harder, and they can issue all those uniforms. Oh, and they might just get some rolling stock to aid in the supply lines.

And she'd say that it's actually a copy of either James Sadler's or Henry Maudslay's. Not that it means anything. Besides wasn't Colbert's just his attempt copy the Dragonfly Remnant's engine?

I think you got hit with auto-correct because IIRC it was called the Dragon's Rainment.

She could always arrive fashionably late. Just as everything seems hopeless.... SUDDENLY OCTAVIA OUT OF NOWHERE!!!
Octavia used Belly Flop on Airship.

It was super effective!

I think I might have mentioned this before, but is TRIST doing anything with the helicopter they recovered?

Carefully dismantling and examining it? It's a gigantic find. But really, they can't do much with it just yet and is probably more valuable for what it means about objects coming over from earth.

Like I said, I decided both sides were making good points about Octavia, so I flipped a coin to decide for myself what her short term fate will be.

The beauty about her power is that because she's weakened when out of water, she wont be too OP if I decide to use her on land later, such as during the Jotunheim arc. Though someone should mention to Prim that hitting her with a blizzard is a really bad idea.

== Fae with No Name ==
== Exaptation spin off idea ==

Koko swept her gaze around the antechamber of the dungeon even as feet felt for the tell-tale give of a pressure plate and its associated trap. One had to admit – dungeons became a lot more interesting after the transition, at least in the Chinese sense of the word.

This particular dungeon had been found by a patrol almost a month ago and quickly blocked off – its position in the forests around Arrun suggested it was one of the higher level dungeons. No one wanted a hunter to accidently wake up a high level boss. Even so as trade into Arrun increased and the mobs acclimated to new existences as actual creatures the guard was finding itself overtaxed and undermanned. So they had started to put out job offers, help with a checkpoint here, and scout a dungeon there.

It reminded her of the old quest system actually.

The job was to simply scout the dungeon, not clear it, so the Cait Sith had only assembled a small team of three. She eyed the pale hair of Ginko in the dim murk of the dungeon as the Sylph looked over a wall and its inscriptions. She continued her survey of the chamber as laid eyes on the sinewy form of the dragons as common as high level mounts among Cait Sith. The dragon turned its wedge shaped head toward her as if it sensed her gaze and held a dinner plate sized eye at her for a moment before continuing with its patrol of the chamber. "Cecile." Koko called out toward the dragon's owner. "You don't normally take jobs like this…"

"Not normally…" The younger Cat Sith spoke up from behind her as she sketched what looked like a tiny version of her own mount basking on rock in the sole beam of sunlight in the chamber. "But the pay was good for this one, besides given the nature of bosses the ecosystem of a place like this could be different from a normal cave. I mean – I doubt the boss is going to let any other apex predators stay here."

"Well, you always have the lesser bosses for the place." Koko suggested. "Find anything Ginko?"

"Just more chicken scratch – wish we could figure out the text in the dungeons." The Sylph replied as he made his way back over. "I'm actually glad we haven't found any mobs- given that Cecile's dragon." He thumbed toward the beast, who perked up at being mentioned. "Can fit in here – normally those types of mounts are meant to fight against players in open areas."

"Actually it has me worried." Cecile said as the other two fae turned. "I mean – why aren't there any other mobs here? Unless something scared them all away – or ate them."

The trio looked toward the massive doors at the other end of the chamber, slightly ajar but still closed enough to block all view into the next room. "Maybe just a quick look?" Cecile offered.
The other quickly agreed.

The dragon's snout was the first thing to enter the room as the fae had the sturdily built dragon be the first to enter the room – but even with the Dragon's brute strength the door groan on its hinges as they forced it open enough for them all the enter.

The sight that they found none of them expected. The room was, for lack of a better term, ruined as if a massive battle had taken place and toward the far end of the room lay the Skeleton remains of the serpent ike boss – a spear taller than Koko herself lodged through its head looking its jaws open in its final attack. The only thing more spectacular then the Skeleton was that final attack – a jewel like ball of ice sparkling in the few beams of light that entered the room.

Cecile look at the scene before the team before speaking "Holy crap."

"How long ago was this?" Koko asked. "Ginko – you haven't heard anything have you?"

Ginko shook his head. "No and beside that – look at this place, its covered in dust." He ran a finger on a half ruined railing. "No one or anything has been in here for at least six months – or the transition."

"So whoever did this might not even be here?" Cecile asked. "I mean-"

"Guys!" Cecile's comment was cut off as Koko, who had walked toward the ball of ice, called for their attention. "You need to see this!"

The pair, with dragon in tow rushed toward the Cat Sith's position and for the second time in as many minutes found themselves blind sides by why they saw. Inside the ball of ice stood a figure locked in a final pose of shielding his eyes from the storm of frost that had to have hurled toward him.

"Or he could still be around." Cecile said. "Why is this ice not melted?"

Ginko laid a hand on the orb. "Magic – likely some sort of stun attack, no idea why it's still in effect. Maybe he was fighting when the transition happened?"

"That doesn't matter right now – we need to get him out." Koko looked at the other two. "I assume you both know dispel?" She got a pair of nods in return.

The spell it turned out, despite its visual splendor was not particular tough – that or it was not meant to take three dispels backed by dragon breath at the same time. As the ice shattered Koko grabbed the figure, a salamander based off his armor and red hair, before he crashed into the ground. "Alright – Cecile, get Dresden to start a fire, Ginko – go back to the camp for some" It happened in an instant as Koko found herself grappling with the formerly comatose Salamander.

"What did you do to me?!" He yelled as he slammed the more lightly built Cait Sith into a column even as Koko tried to cry out for him to stop. "Where am I?!"

"You were stuck in …the ice." Koko said between breaths as the man's hand clamped around her throat, even as she tried to wave Ginko and Cecile off from trying to intervene. "We found… you …in the dungeon."

"What Dungeon? Wha...ice." Koko took a gasp as the man's grip loosened and went to keep him from falling as he started to slump – whatever energy had had mustered expended.

Koko tried to help the man up. "My name is Koko – who are you? What is your name?"

The man starred at her for a moment. "I don't know." He groaned. "Oh god." He muttered before fainting into Koko's arms.

Then they're screwed. As the whole point of TH's concept is that the Border Bosses are immensely powerful but that power is limited by their environment (or draws most of their power from it as the case seems to be). Though I thought that particular scene it was Asuna in Beast Transformation and is only for a limited time as established.

Which is why I've said for Reconquista's assault Octavia won't be quite that affective against airships that can put distance between her and them. Won't be the case for the Elf navy.

And let's be honest, who doesn't like the thought of the Elves getting their ass kicked in at least one theater of war?

I was under the impression that the elves did had airships, fancy airships with better weapons than anything else in the original setting than anything else the humans had until a certain professor made what was basally a flying ironclad and it still took Louise and her void explosion to takeout the elven blockade force trying to stop them.

Like I said, I decided both sides were making good points about Octavia, so I flipped a coin to decide for myself what her short term fate will be.

Which side won? Heads or tails?

Well her interactions with Skuld would be... interesting.

Being weaker out of Water doesn't really mean much. Since if Octavia is working directly with Tristian. They could just hall her around with golems in a giant stone basin of water. To use as a giant mobile artillery cannon and city wide shield generator.
