Merry Christmas! Apologies for the wait, Writer's Block has had me by the neck.
[X] Charge the left Gaw
Elle Vianno grit her teeth as a Lightliner slipped its way past Mafty's anti-air barrage, swooping down and dropping off a GM Striker. She honestly had no idea which faction this guy belonged to, but it wasn't Mafty or Londo Bell! She flicked a few switches, making her Nemo holster its rifle and drawing a beam saber. This close to the Garuda, they couldn't risk a stray shot taking down the transport! The Striker seemed to be of the same opinion, as it immediately tossed its machine gun and pulled out a long beam spear, igniting the weapon in a flash of bright plasma.
"This place is looking more like an antique show with every passing second…" Elle muttered as she tried to remember the approximate specs of the GM Striker. She never thought that she'd have to fight against one, but did get the chance to tear one down back when she did salvage work in Shangri-la. If she was correct, then…
The GM Striker lunged and Elle jumped to the side, her Nemo much nimbler than the enemy GM. However, as it missed her the sabers on the spear flipped 90 degrees, turning it into a scythe poised to cut Elle's legs out from under her. Without missing a beat, she hit her thrusters and jumped just in time.
"Got you!" She raised her beam saber and cut the GM in half from shoulder to hip. The light in its visor died as the upper half slowly slid off, the bisected Mobile Suit collapsing onto the top of the transport. She kicked it and the two halves rolled towards the rear, falling off into the ocean below.
"Elle, are you alright?" Hathaway called out, having just dealt with a contender from the Sleeves.
"Yeah, Hathaway, I'm good." She looked over in his direction. His Mobile Suit had been leant to him by Mafty, much like Elle's Nemo, but his was some kind of rare high-performance MS from the One Year War. The "GM Dominance" or something. Whatever it was, it mopped the floor with the poor Zaku II from the Sleeves.
A transmission from one of the other Mafty fighters crackled over comms.
"Heads up, we got a… Gaw inbound."
Hathaway was rendered speechless, as was Elle. A… Gaw? What? She turned in the direction indicated and saw perhaps one of the stupidest sights she'd had to witness all day. It was indeed a Gaw. The airship was in such bad shape that the hull plating rattled in the wind, at least one of the engines had given up the ghost and was completely engulfed in flames, and there was a visible trail of debris coming from it.
And it was heading straight for them.
One of the Mafty guys in a beat-up Geara Doga lifted a Hyper Bazooka and shot at the incoming Gaw. As the ship barreled into the combat zone, it took the rocket straight to the base of the left wing. The wing snapped off like a twig from the resulting detonation, and then the whole transport blew apart. Honestly, Elle was impressed that it had even held together this long already. This was a mercy killing, if Elle had ever seen one.
She almost turned her attention away, but then something burst out from within the wreckage! It was one of the Mass Production Nu Gundams, riding a… what the hell was that? Elle had never seen anything like that before. Some kind of Mobile Armor?
Okay, what jackass shot your Gaw?
Sure, it was a stolen ride, a piece of shit jalopy that was one stiff breeze away from rapid unscheduled disassembly, but damn it you were starting to grow kind of fond of it! Plus, you were thinking that maybe Eris might like it! Like, what if she wanted to restart her family museum in an old Gaw? That would be sick.
Well, no use crying over spilled milk. You burst out of the shattered transport on bright plumes of jet exhaust, Lorelei riding your Kehaar II like some kind of mounted knight.
"Fear not, the heroes are here!" your crazed Newtype teammate announces on an open channel, just before you ram an Asshimar from behind. Lorelei uses her saber to spear it from behind, pushing it ahead of the two of you as you crash directly into the Garuda's open hangar.
You, uh, really hope that you didn't just damage the ship.
Actually, forget the ship, how are you in another hangar fight? You immediately kill your engines and survey the area…. Where is everyone? This hangar is just entirely empty of any personnel or crew. The only thing here is a series of large containers, one of them big enough to hold a Mobile Armor!
"Looks like nobody's home." Sicilia remarks from her seat, "Big Sis Two, you okay?"
"Yep!" Lorelei chimes back as she crushes the main engines on the Asshimar and kicks it out the back of the Garuda, sending it tumbling to its demise, "Thanks for the ride, Cybele!"
"Don't mention it." You shake your head, retrieving your pistol again and popping the hatch, "Stay with the Suit, Little Sis, I'm gonna take a look around."
You jump from the cockpit and hit the Garuda's deck running, heading for the entrance into the ship as Lorelei stands by the open hangar doors, firing both machine guns at the giant free-for-all outside.
Empty.
This entire Garuda is empty.
There doesn't seem to be any evidence that anyone was on board to begin with. The crew quarters are barren and unfurnished. The lounges are stripped of every possible appliance.
What is Anaheim up to?
The door to the bridge is ajar, and the button to open it is unresponsive. Bracing yourself against the doorframe, you push it open the rest of the way and step into the Bridge, pistol raised.
Nobody.
Every seat is empty, and some stations are even missing seats to begin with.
This isn't right. Who's flying the ship? You hesitantly approach the helm and look at the readouts.
Autopilot. This thing is flying automatically.
"So that's how it is, huh?" You growl under your breath, "We all fight and die over this thing, and you guys just sit back and count your profits? Fuck that."
You head over to the Fire Control station and slide into the chair, booting it up.
Seems that Anaheim turned everything off, but didn't put in any safeguards to stop you from just turning the weapons back on. With control of the AA guns, you could clear the skies of all opposition. But that's not what really interests you. The Mega-Particle Cannon has a clear line of sight to the other Gardua, which looks mostly secured by the Federation at this point. You doubt that an Anti-Federation faction will take that Garuda at this point… so why not down it? That's Asset Denial 101.
If you can't have it, no one can.
[][AA Guns] Secure the airspace. It's nothing personal, just smart.
[][AA Guns] Leave them inactive, it wouldn't be smart to antagonize people who'll be allies tomorrow.
[][Mega-Particle Cannon] Shoot down the other Garuda. You'll be damned before you let the Feds get a superweapon.
[][Mega-Particle Cannon] Let the Feds take their prize. You'd rather not have all those enemy Mobile Suits turn their attention to you.
