Goddess' Shooting Star (Black★Rock Shooter X Persona 4)

Although I find it interesting we're the Judgement Arcana as well. Judgement is... In Persona it usually what the team as a whole becomes when they realize they still have a mission even after things are "finished." Although in 5 it was Sae specifically.

Anyway, Judgement Arcana is also about Divine/Alien Punishment, Words delivered from on high that don't care about laws and humanity, which Justice does. Granted, that's very much what Rock going on a rampage would look like to anyone on the receiving end.
The thing is, the Judgement Arcana referencing Mato right now is reversed. Meaning that as Krika pointed out, it's currently related to negative qualities associated with the arcana.

I know. But I don't know how that affects what Judgement's... let's call them properties.

Kirika listed the traits of when they're describing a person's personality, not its properties as an existence or event when its Reversed.

My only guess would be receiving instead of giving Judgement, but that's too straightforward and simple tbh.

Reversed Judgment is associated with stagnation, a person's unwillingness to accept inevitable changes, with a fear of the future. Quite appropriate, I think.

And while Mato acknowledges what happened with Yomi, Rock and so on; I can see BRS being annoyed that Mato is still not willing to admit certain things and/or didn't learn some lessons from the event.

I doubt it even counts as an omake, but feel free to open the spoiler box if you want to read something I wrote that was inspired by the latest story post.
Beneath the roiling sea lies the spines of the earth, piercing the ever rolling tides that seek to return the islands to the primordial deeps whence they came. Within them lies a sleepy town, the scales of judgement shaped for the eventual reading. The heavens betwixt lie emptied of the fog that heralds the emptiness and hunger of the end. Chains bind the static that borders this world and the physical however momentarily, and upon them, the words unspoken wait for a connection to open.
Yet your eyes gaze upon this from another time, this conflict borne from the lands beyond the scales. The sea overhead boils as the mountain you stand upon is firm, and the spear waits in your hand. The scales of Judgement have been set in motion, and your role has just begun. So your gaze narrows. The girl is outclassed by her mirror, yet there lies potential. Your awakening was brought about by another, and the foreign presences you observe cannot be attributed to the mere whims of fate.
There is no subtlety in their eddy upon the sea of souls merely a hand outstretched in the only way it knows. Even as your conflict with the other was the final words that were spoken so long ago, these speak in the terms of fist, and perhaps the blade and arrow. Confrontation, revelation, and settlement.

So sees the eyes upon the mountain, spear in hand, within the black coat and belts.

Wow, I actually had plans to write an omake first, but it looks like you just beat me to it (though as you pointed out, it is pretty short). But hey, maybe this'll be some incentive for me to finally get around to it

If it does, that would probably be the best thing to come out of it. I didn't label my writing as 'questionable' for no reason.

It's very evocative, but I have no actual idea who is speaking or what's actually going on.

The viewpoint was intended to be Izanagi, observing the events of the last update. With some of my guesses as to what the scenario might be intended to be. And I'm not even sure if the viewpoint is a possible one for said events.
I had no expectation that it would be canon, and I'm afraid that my writing suffers from both of those things being lacking a lot of the time.

Ah, that would have been my third guess, my first two would have been variants on some kind of outside observer.

Still, it is evocative, just confusing.

Not that I suppose I can throw stones on that front...

I've weighted my options, and I think answering is the way to go.

Omake: "Goddess Game" by Lapin Lune
Hmm okay, here's my attempt at an Omake. I'm gonna warn people that, having completed a Persona Quest (first completed one on SV I think), this is gonna be very 'Buy My Book'-ish (not literally buy, but you get what I mean). Was a bit unsure whether I managed to get Yomi and Dead Master's character down:

Goddess Game

Yomi was at least used to constantly moving around, but this move having separated her from Mato was... well, something else.

Shivering as she still had to get used to the mountain air, she slowly stared upwards to take in what was now her new high school, the striking 19th-century façade of Hanataba Gakuen. The school's ramparts and clocktower seemed to stretch up further than they actually did, while the blossoming of the trees in its gardens made it look ringed by multicolour clouds.

Yomi's nerves finally loosening and letting her make her way inside, she found herself in a dimly lit entrance hall dominated by a spiralling oak staircase. Having to squeeze her way in between the rest of the student body, she couldn't help but hear the same few names over and over despite not meaning to eavesdrop.

"Oh my God, I would give anything for Azuma to sweep me off my feet, he's so dashing..."
"Yeah, but with Eitaro you've got a total hunk. I mean, archery and football, er, not that acting's anything to sneeze at"
"I wish I could be like Himawari though, boys would notice me if I was that dainty..."

Those were the at least understandable mutterings of the local girls, not out of place with anything Yomi had overheard at high school before. The boy students though, as she unfortunately expected, had a little less tact:

"Man, Melissa is such a babe! Like, we rarely ever get foreigners out here, till our school landed her..."
"Suit yourself, obsessing over a foreigner. The graceful Kikuko is our nation's own beauty"
"Gakuto's still cool though, right? Guy's a pro eSports player and a tech genius, come on!"

"Er..." Yomi had to raise her voice, having intended otherwise to just get to class quietly, "Pardon me but, well, I'm not quite familiar with all these names".

She wasn't prepared though for when the whole corridor turned to stare at her. "Seriously? You're at Hanataba yet you don't know the All-Aces?" a rather vocal student said to her.

"Well, you see, I just got here and all," Yomi tried to say, fidgeting with her phone strap. A lot of the facts that'd stuck in her head about Hanataba was that it didn't have a Volleyball Team... though did have a Cricket Team. "My apologies for the confusion, I'll just be-".

"Ooh my, are we lost, little girl? Gonna cry without your mommy?" said a giggling, accented voice behind Yomi who then grabbed her by her shoulders, "Well, since we're so generous here, why don't we make you feel right at home here, hmhm?".

Yomi, not exactly optimistic about what might come next, did turn around to see that this voice belonged to no less than a strawberry blonde American student. She guessed this would be that 'Melissa' people were talking about. Before anything else could happen though, the bell for assembly rang.

"Ugh, can I not go one day without something raining on my parade?" Melissa snapped, before glaring down at Yomi and saying, "Look, the instant classes are finito, you'd better haul your ass up to the Prized Pupil Lounge on the third floor, it is our duty as All-Aces to give you the best impression of Hanataba after all. Oh, and you'll know the door when you see it, so if you get lost on the way there, you've only got yourself to blame. Later, beyotch". As she left though, what seemed like a fiery blue card suddenly flashed the faded in her hand.

While Yomi hurried to assembly, her thoughts could only flash back to how Mato would've handled someone like Melissa, were she here.

After classes concluded that afternoon, Yomi not being much of a people person yet at least having some friendly faces say hi to her, it then came time for her to head on up to her new school's third floor, and to what'd been described the personal lounge of Hanataba's elite... still not knowing the reason a transfer student like her had been invited there.

Melissa was right about one thing though, the burgundy door to the Prized Pupil Lounge, decorated with playing cards and rose patterns, was quite hard to miss. Approaching and giving a knock at this door, Yomi nearly stumbled back when it was answered by a scowling boy who towered over her, almost spitting out, "What do you want, do we look like a babysitting club? Hmph, a weakling like you better have a damn good excuse for wasting our time".

"Oh come come, Eitaro, have you no appreciation of the, ahem, female form?" another, softer yet slimier voice said, belonging to a sandy-haired boy adjusting his glasses, who through the door started to look all over Yomi's figure. "True, bit of a fixer-upper I'll admit, but nothing today's technology can't solve. Anyway, I'm Momoi Gakuto, Ace of Wands, no doubt you've heard of me".

Yomi, forcing herself not to gag at all this, at least got in a swift bow, if one with one eye still raised, and said, "I'm Takanashi Yomi, and actually I received an invitation to come here".

"First off, what the hell are you two doing?!" a voice none other than Melissa cut her off, as she stomped over and pushed the two male students to the side, "Since when do us Aces answer the door, like, isn't that what Jacks are for?".

"I would've had Kaneto do it," Eitaro grumbled, "But they dragged him into the emergency room, them saying some bullshit about him having a spinal injury".

"Correct, and well I guess Azuma and Kikuko have to give their Jacks days off sometimes," Gakuto then sighed, "Hence is the price of having a maid and butler as your secondaries, to show we aren't slave-drivers and all. Well, don't know about Kikuko".

"Wait, you have maids and butlers? And, ahem, I'm still not sure what a Jack is?" Yomi had to speak up.

"Grr, and Reina's probably slacking off because of course she is. Look, new girl, just get inside" Melissa huffed as she dragged Yomi into the lounge.

Yomi finally seeing this lounge for herself, her eyes widened as she took in how sumptuous this place was for a student facility. A gold-bronze carpet covering most of the room, plush couches, antique furniture, and a looming window that let the full majesty of the afternoon sun in to flood the room.

Standing in front of that window, the sunlight encircling his silhouette, was a smirking pretty boy with wavy, crimson-brown hair and an obvious flair for the dramatic.
"Ah, Melissa told us of your arrival, although, ahem, it appears some didn't get the message," this boy chuckled, glancing briefly at Eitaro and Gakuto before striding over to Yomi, "Welcome, Takanashi Yomi, to our fair institution. And who am I? Hmhm, Sakurai Azuma, Ace of Spades".
He then took Yomi's hand, knelt down and kissed it, Yomi gritting her teeth to hide her discomfort.

"Hey, um, don't you think you guys are going a bit too heavy on her?" a softer female voice spoke up, belonging to a more demure girl with purplish-blue hair, who then looked at Yomi and tried to smile, forming her fingers into a heart shape as she did, "Oh, hey there, I'm Aoyagi Himawari, Ace of Hearts. Uh, are you okay there?".

Yomi then felt she could relax a little. For whatever reason she'd been brought to this lounge, at least one person here didn't seem that bad. Unfortunately, Himawari turned out to be the calm before the storm.

Out of nowhere, Yomi suddenly felt a katana blade behind her, a cold voice saying of her, "Well, you do pay heed to our country's heritage somewhat. You haven't died your hair some ridiculous colour, or are desperately aping foreign fashions. In short, you resemble the exact sort of girl Melissa couldn't care for, not that I would complain".

The sword lifting off her, its cold-toned wielder then stepped in front of Yomi, being a girl with jet-back hair and skin liked porcelain.

"To complete introductions, before you stands Maeda Kikuko, Ace of Swords, our school's traditional beauty," Azuma spoke up again, "And I see they've neglected so far to give their titles to you, Tsutsuji Eitaro is our Ace of Cups, and Melissa Lilian the Ace of Coins".

"Might I just ask why you've brought me here?" Yomi finally had the chance to speak up, "Ah, it's not that I don't appreciate your introductions, it's just... I was going to be shown around the school, I believe?".

"Oh, we'll definitely be showing you around," Melissa smirked, as when Yomi happened to stand just next to what looked like a gameboard resting on a table, she strode forward and pushed the new girl right onto it.

Rather than simply tripping over the Gameboard, Yomi found herself falling continuously down, down into what her quaking self felt could only be that Other World. Landing with a thud which made her struggle to get back on her feet, the patterned tiles that covered the landscape seemed to confirm that suspicion, though they were hexagon-shaped rather than the Other World's usual checkerboard.

"Hahaha, oh my God! My prank totally worked!" came Melissa's voice echoing from above, her being presumably still back in the Prized Pupil Lounge. Honestly though, this whole experience having been a prank was likely the least surprising thing to Yomi, but then Melissa had to say, "Ooh, wonder how she'll react to a Shadow? This is gonna be so funny!".

Shadow? Yomi thought, as she was then knocked back when what looked like no less than a crowned stingray swooped down on her. "Mato, help!" she then called out of instinct, though her rational self should've known her best friend was nowhere near. But someone else was.

"You know, I'm almost ashamed to have you as my Other sometimes," a voice Yomi knew all too well filled her ears, "So, for your dignity and mine, the least you could do is not grovel like a peasant before these usurpers".

As that stingray, one of the 'Shadows' as Melissa had called it, lurched forward to attack Yomi again, it was blown back by a sudden pulse of darkness that fired off from her. It went in for a third attack, only to almost impale itself on a suddenly materialised scythe as it did so.

"It's not like me to play the hero, but as you All-Aces dare treat my realm as a plaything, I'm afraid you've forced my hand" Yomi found herself saying, Dead Master once again flooding into her, becoming one again.

My apologies, Black Rock Shooter, but it looks like we've been rudely interrupted...

Ah yeah, admittedly I've been doing a Quest with Homura, specifically Moemura, as MC recently, so that may've affected how I wrote her. I'm interested to know how you'd have had Yomi react in that situation

And yep, I'd be delighted with an apocrypha threadmark

Well, not the QM obviously, but Yomi's got steel in her spine.

She's cut from something closer to a Yamato Nadeshiko than a full-on Wallflower. She wouldn't really shrink back into herself from someone else pushing her, she shrinks back from her own failures and especially "failures". My guess is she did everything expected of her up until she met Mato who brought life and a genuine smile to her, but then Yuu showed up and she began feeling isolated from Mato and was unable/didn't-know-how to reach across that perceived chasm.

She would have acted with the expected decorum in this situation, but would be unlikely to flinch from any of the heckling, probably bite back with all the Japanese passive-aggressiveness that's technically-not-breaking-decorum as well after the effects of Mato and Dead Master.

Might I also suggest using normal colored text, but colored quotation marks for when its their combined form speaking?

Speaking of Yuu, given this is apparently based on the OVA and not the anime, anybody have any theories as to what's up with her? Just a normal girl, or something closer to her anime self?

Okay then, I've now rewritten sections of my Omake so to ideally make Yomi feel a little more like herself. Me only colouring half of the text green was meant to represent Dead Master segueing into Yomi, but yeah, just colouring the quote marks does appear less awkward-looking

Edit: Also, the 'crowned stingray' at the end is meant to be Forneus

And I'm reminded of Gamlain interpretation of Persona/Otherself in crossover situation.
We accept them [Shadows]. They [girl with her Shadow/Otherself] are friends.

It also included fantastic bit of Mato and Yomi going to sleep separately, in their own houses, but Dead Master waking up snuggling with BRS in Mato's bed. And scaring Mato's mom.

Edit: Battle Fantasia Project got some great bits, I'm glad Gamlain put his in one place
"Did mom see you when you Were the other person sleeping, Sis?" A sleepy voice asked. "I wanted breakfast and mom's freaking out."

"..other person..?" Mato asked, slowly turning around to see her little brother giving the spilled orange juice an accusing glare.

"The one with the long hair and the frankensteins." He yawned. "I bet she did. You should be careful, switching back and forth like that when you sleep. People will catch you. Gonna go tell mom it's okay. Mato-chan's just weird."

Face your (other) self.
A/N: This one feels short, I hope the promptness of it makes up for that.

[X] [Yomi] Force your way through.

You are a selfish girl.

You don't like to be, you pretend not to be. Selfishness is a wicked thing, a stain on your character. Good people aren't selfish, and so you have striven not to be selfish except in the small ways that society deems acceptable.

To want a good life for yourself. To want success for yourself… These desires are not sinful so long as they are practiced in moderation. You have never had any intention of trampling others or tearing them down. You simply want to achieve your desires on your own merits.

It was easy so long as the things you wanted were those society deemed it acceptable to want.

It was easy, until all of a sudden, it wasn't.

Mato…

She came into your life, she pulled you into her orbit. You became friends, and that was okay too wasn't it? Wanting a friend is allowed, wanting a partner is something that society deems acceptable. You indulged in that selfishness, in that time spent in her company, growing closer and closer…

My Mato.

It wasn't until second year came that you realized it. When you were beginning to drift apart, from being placed in separate classrooms. She made a new friend, and you started to fade from her attentions a little. Such a thing was normal, you were only middle-schoolers after all. Friends would come and friends would go. You told yourself that it was fine, that it was how it had to be. That the pain would pass in time.

Jealousy, anger, all coming back to your selfishness, all pushed down, because the person you are isn't acceptable in this society. Because it's not okay to feel that way about another person. To want to keep them all to yourself.

You said(lied) to yourself that you had to let her go and in doing so you were taken.
You could never truly accept such a state of affairs.
Your recollections become a little confused after that point but now, as you strain and your fingers slowly sink into the static fuzz, your memories are starting to clear. Endless blasted wastelands, another voice in your head that was not quite your own. A fight… So many fights… Your jealousy and selfishness run mad as the other you wore her down and caught her in your chains.
Yours in every way you wanted her. All the ways that you could never say aloud. All the ways that others would never understand or accept.
You felt your heart almost break as she tore herself free even then, but she mended it with a touch. Those arms wrapping around you, holding you close, carrying you home…
Do you think she would have done that if she'd known how much of 'me' was really you?
Selfish girl that you were, you had what you wanted. You had your friend.
You don't just want a friend, you don't even just want a lover.
Now she's been taken from you again.
You want to own her.
Give. My. Mato. Back!
Can you really be such a disgustingly selfish girl?
The pressure holding you back falters again, the scant reflection in the glass on that dead screen flickering as your thoughts whirl inside your head. Inch by inch, you are making progress, slowly but surely overcoming the barrier that holds you on this side of the screen...

[ ] [Yomi] Accept yourself.

[X] [Mato] Fight alone.

As though sensing your intent, the card flickers more violently for a moment and then comes apart, dissipating into nothingness in the blink of an eye. You clench your fist and edge your foot forwards, a genuine smile forms on your pale doppelgangers lips. I don't want to do this.

The smile becomes a frown, her eyes narrow, and she moves.

Your bruised stomach and shoulder protest the sudden motions as you step in and hunch forward, bringing your arms up to try and deflect the straight punches that lance towards you. Despite the anger and frustration etched into your other self's features, she's still moving slower, holding back on her speed as she lashes out and you try to bat her gloved fist aside.

It hurts.

Even a deflection causes pain to bloom up and down your forearm. The straight block you interpose against the third strike almost brings tears to your eyes as you swear you feel the bones of your forearm creaking ominously against that inhuman strength.

She's playing with you.

No, that's not right. There's no smile on her face. No hint of a predator enjoying the struggles of the prey.

"What-"

She attacks again and you're forced to fall back, twisting aside as you call on old experience. You're no trained martial artist or anything of the sort but you did a little bit of practice and you've always been competitive. One-Two… Three, Four. Your eye is stinging even though you haven't taken any hits to the face yet. Your forearms feel almost numb from just this handful of strikes.

You saw what happened to kids who actually got into fights. Everyone whispered behind their backs, even if they had such an energy in the heat of the moment. There were always regrets, always consequences.

I don't want to be that person.

"Liar." Liar.

You flinch at the sound of that voice, underlain with a faint reverberation yet unmistakably your own, and a fist catches you on the chin, snapping your head to one side and making you stumble back.

"What the hell would you know?! Living in this crazy violent world?" You shout as you struggle to recover.

That's right, back then...

You launch yourself at the pale shadow, her eye bursting into flame as she moves to meet you, your thoughts go back. You didn't want to be a pariah. You didn't want to be 'that violent girl'. You don't want to become 'that delinquent' like Kanji is. You just want your friends, you just want Yomi.

The thing that scares me most about those memories of the Incident-

"Shooter!(Mato!)"

Yomi's voice cuts across your thoughts and that isn't Yomi's voice but that doesn't stop both your heads from snapping to the source of the sound. The Green-Eyed Other(Dead Master) in Yomi's image is straining against the white, and you can see white against the dark claws that tip her fingers. A human hand straining against her monstrous appendage.

"I… I can't-!" She sounds afraid.

Then Black Rock Shooter gets between the two of you again, teeth bared in a snarl.

"Eyes forward!"

"Out of my way!" You attack, throwing your own punches back now blue flames lighting up the Arena as Shooter's left eye flares and wincing as your own left eye aches. Adrenaline pumping, the pain a secondary concern as you hurl yourself into the fight.

It's just to escape, to get out of here.

I don't remember everything, but I do remember… Even when I thought I would lose. Even when everything was all twisted and terrifying… What was it..?

The other you is smiling, teeth bared in a violent grin that makes you feel sick to your stomach.

Ah yes, that's it…

You don't need a mirror to know that you are wearing the same expression.

"It's the most fun I've ever had."

You stumble, there is a sound like glass shattering, Black Rock Shooter's fist impacts your chest, and the last impression you get is falling before your head hits the ground and everything goes black.

[ ] [Mato] You wake to green eyes and high arches.
[ ] [Mato] You wake to grey eyes and a yellow glow.
[ ] [Mato] You wake to an unfamiliar ceiling.
