From Stone to the Stars

I believe the general idea was just to continue our infrastructure building spree. Spread some more kilns around if possible start working on a Hill for the Fingers. We might also want to consider some form of diplo to cheer up the Soft Eyes since we're forcing them to stop trading with the Island Makers.

I was kind of thinking we'd probably want to work on doing some more food producing actions too considering how our stats have our staples at equilibrium. I don't really see any need for diplomacy options considering the Soft Eyes are our vassals anyways, who we provide food to in the first place.

Ah yes, who needs to build closer ties with vassals or otherwise care about their feelings.

Obey or die, as the IMF said.

And what pray tell are we supposed to do regarding the Soft Eyes? How do you propose we build closer ties when mechanically our options are somewhat tied? We already essentially feed most of their population and through the results of this vote we've cut off another source of trade for them so what is your actual proposal aside from pithy comments?

The next turn is a full plan turn, and frankly speaking even if we would send a trade caravan their way, which we probably can't considering our luxuries deficit, why would they care for it when before it was noted narratively they care mostly about the food we bring them? And taking onto consideration our own food problems, where we are stilling dealing with the results of people dying due to starvation, we can't exactly give them more food.

So again, how do you actually want to build ties aside from empty words?

Empty words, cultural exchange, a demonstration of attention in a time when we are theoretically stretched thin?

In a time of nothing even nothing is something.

Except those literally aren't mechanical options we can choose and vote for. When we first got into contact with the Mountain Clans they ignored the luxuries we offered for food. They've made it abundantly clear that is their main priority.

Empty words are what they mostly give us considering the routine ass kissing their representatives give us.

So even if we could offer empty words, which we mechanically can't vote for, they likely wouldn't care. Past history has shown that.

@Japanime They ignored luxuries for food because they were starving. Now that they get regular food from us I bet that they don't have some kind of disdain for luxuries. That said, we kinda need to know their reaction to us leaning on them before deciding what the right course of action is.

Even if that is the case, the problem for us is that right now we currently have a luxuries deficit. So even if we wanted to do diplomacy with them and use an action slot to do so, we would be further exacerbating some of our resources to do so. Considering the fact that we already currently provide them food, I don't particularly see any need to waste an action and make our resource shortage worse in order to placate them.

Yeah, domestic issues first. We're cleaning up the mess from 2 generations of outward facing

While I am worried about potentially missing out on some of the developments that could have been happening around us while we consolidated and reformed, that worry however is outweighed when I look at our information and status sheet. Right now it seems like we stand upon a precipice of sorts as we have a number of internal issues to fix. I'm just hoping that our heroes can continue to guide us through this phase, while potentially getting more heroes for the future, as they really have been our buttress for issues like this.

I would like to complete the hill at the fingers to remove the Dissatisfied Faction (The Fingers) status. But doing that will probably take all of our actions to pay for it.

Price of outward face.
Win and your domestics now have new conquests to digest.
Win or lose you pay out the nose to replenish.

Fair. It was worth it though considering what we will likely gain from what we have absorbed. Though I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's been so long I've kind of forgotten what our outward facing goals are after we finish reforming.

Preventing the rise of single large hostile power on our borders
Secure enough of the fertile river and lake banks to be able create cities in the ages to come.

We took control of one of the larger gem mines at arrow lake, there was a full network of trails there as well and they grew some plants unknown to us.

We were also trying to assimilate the Pearl Divers but i'm not sure those plans are still active or if they've been abandoned.

Waiting for an opportunity, and stabilizing our core. Long term we need to grab our way to the coast so we aren't completely screwed when the Age of Sail comes around, but not at the cost of exploding into kibble. Mid term(as in Bronze Age), we need to grab at least one of the major floodplains.

Most of the time doing the diplomatic/assimilation strategy takes generations, based on what we know of the mechanics its supposed to take something like 2-3 turns to convert a trait in a receptive audience, and the Pearl Divers should have had something like 5 traits(and we had a setback where the trait they adopted mutated right after they adopted it, pushing things back by another generation).

The Northlands is not normal, because they declared Holy War on us and ran into a Hero armed with a Megaproject, rendering them supremely vulnerable to our culture assimilation strategy once they killed off most of their adult male population smashing into us.
Same with Arrow Lake.

So that threw our plans out of whack because we had expected to be able to finish SOME infrastructure backfill in the estimated 10 to 20 turns needed to assimilate them and now we had to deal with two conquests.

Unless anyone comes a knocking, I think we should be able to focus on integrating and strengthening our core internal position.

Right now I think is the best time for this as we mostly seem to have secured our outer borders, with either friendly states or buffer states acting as bulwarks against our potential enemies. Honestly, considering how we will likely be beset by internal issues for quite awhile, such as with the technological paradigm shifts so near to happening, especially that of metal working that was hinted it, we'll be doing this for the foreseeable future I gather.

This quest has been on informal hiatus before where we didn't have any word. So it could be on hiatus, or even dead.

Looks like. QM still posts on SV but hasn't answered regarding the status of this quest. I know it is an especially time and research intensive one, but it would have been cool if he told us that he currently doesn't have the time/energy/inspiration/motivation to write. And if, once it returns, he'd rather make a completely new thing or revive this.

Then again, beggars can't be choosers.

Yeah that's true. The cycle of quests and all that. Kinda wish he could definitively say something about all of this like you said.
