Well sufficient high quality numbers could beat Flandre but if they make the mistake of sending say an endless wave of B class mages chances are they'll just see an endless blood frenzy with Flandre literally just refueling in the middle of the fight. When Nanoha and co. fought Flandre she was playing around, flying around in daylight, and she didn't have mostly defenseless walking blood packs around (I know there were petty crooks but they were already dead or running by that point). It's kind of like rocks, paper, scissors with Flandre with what information she provided to the TSAB at this point, a group of powerful mages can beat Flandre, a continent worth of mooks can beat that group of mages, Flandre would have endless fun with that continent of toys. A specialized highly trained crack squadron might work against Flandre, but sending an endless wave of mook mages to combat Flandre is counterproductive and a sure way to raising the premium on life insurance.
I'm thinking more of "Call in the Navy and Arc-en-ciel her with the whole city" if they don't have elite mages to deploy.

What kind of vampire doesn't know how to read the literature of the land? Certainly one that is an unelegant ruffian that could learn a thing or two from the Scarlet family.

Oh yeah I did not think of that. Definitely would have collateral damage, but yeah it could take her out of the picture.

Alternative Vote if that's too micromanagy:
It's fine; there are a couple points where it's problematic because it's trying to influence things Flan has no control over (who comes to pick her up, what kind of music she hears), but I can run with it if it wins.

On one hand, shiny plot hook.

On the other hand, Jail isn't exactly the most trustworthy guy around (massive understatement).

Yea, I'm voting to not jump into the likely trap.

(Notice I don't care about "obeying orders" or "chain of command" as long as we don't go so far and make it seem like we are someone who needs to be killed at any cost)

I sort of suspect that if we go on the shuttle it'll get blown up mid-route, dumping us into the dimensional sea and through there our next universe.

The current vote got me thinking and I'm trying to work out the logistics of Flandre being unable to read the local language here.

Alright. Nanoha's primary language is Japanese, but Raising Heart, an intelligent device made to use Midchildan magic, calls out spell names in English.Maybe Nanoha wanted to give her spells English names because she thought they were cool. But Bardiche also calls out spell names in English. Considering Fate presumably never visited Earth before the Jewel Seed incident, and was in Japan, this means Midchildan is some alternate universe version of English if this isn't a translation convention for the audience. There was a TSAB team singing a marching song in English in the untranslated manga even, but considering my only citation for that is the TV tropes article for Aliens Speaking English, that could be taken with a grain of salt.

Flandre was born near Schneeberg, so that would mean she grew up knowing German, which may or may not have common ground with Belkan. The time spent in Gensokyo means she's presumably familiar with Japanese. Flandre being unable to read written Midchildan means one of three things. Flandre never learned English for whatever reason. There weren't any language issues when Flandre first came to Midchilda though, which if Flandre doesn't know English can be explained by Midchilda spamming translation fields like confetti. The translator field spam would also explain it if Midchildan language isn't English.

The other explanation is that Flandre knows English, but the Midchildan writing system is completely different yet sounds like English when read. The alphabet could be different, there could be conventions resembling a programming language if you take the Gamesverse's interpretation of the origin of language in magical society, some combination of those, or maybe something else though I'm not sure what.

Most of the text from StrikerS looks more like Greek to me. You get the occasional 'Fancy English' like Devices have, but most text has some interesting characters. I'll screenshot something and post it in a bit.

Edit:

Obviously, it could just be a reverse of 'Translation Convention' - the word "Relic" at the top is perfectly readable after all, and the viewers don't need to read all the extra text or know what it says, so it's just gibberish ... but I'm running with the majority-text being what actual Mid-Childan 'really' looks like (IIRC, a similar language shows up when we see ... either Teana or Nanoha working at a computer, but I don't remember what episode that was :/).

Another potential explanation is that the English that shows up is a sort of secondary alphabet that sees use but isn't regarded as being used for literacy. But because it's a distinctive style, it gets used as a 'This is Important' mark for things like Alerts.

Double-Edit: And on a third reviewing, yes, it does look like a Latin alphabet rather than Greek  The version I'm used to watching isn't as high-quality as this one, and the letters in this particular sequence were always blurred, so it looked like they were closer to the Greek characters. Doesn't change the substance, just wanted to correct myself.

No. You were told to call someone if you were going to be gone for a while, and if you don't, they'll send someone after you and you'll get yelled at and you probably won't even get to have any fun anyway. And since you can't call anyone, since you don't know how to contact them, and it would take too long to find out, you're better off not even bothering, even though it means you'll miss out on the fun trip Juliet had planned for you. You quietly slip through the crowd, making sure to avoid being seen by the woman at the desk, so she doesn't try to talk to you and make you change your mind.

At least it's still cloudy outside, so you don't have to worry about that. You step out of the building and begin retracing your steps, heading back to the unit you're with. "You should've just gone! Why would anything bad have happened? It's not like they can really make you do anything!" You sigh at your friend. Maybe she's right? It doesn't change anything, though. You feel her 'huff' in dissatisfaction and fade away. Now you're alone again. As usual.

Almost an hour into your walk, a crack of lightning interrupts your thoughts, and you turn to face the direction it came from. Yes, those clouds are definitely going to be dropping rain. You are, fortunately, close enough to your unit that even if you kept up your steady pace you should get back before the rain reaches you ... but a second bolt lashes out, and you glare at the gathering storm. You turn back the way you came and continue onward, quickening your steps. Even with your parasol, you'd rather not risk being caught in the rain.

You make it back well ahead of the storm, and you rub the side of your head as you make your way to the unit cafeteria. You slip through the door and make your way to one of the tables, where you climb into the chair and slump over the table. You don't usually come here, so no one will look for you here and you'll be able to just sit and not think for a while without being disturbed. That was your plan, anyway.

"Miss Flandre? Would you care for some tea?" Not even ten minutes go by before Tarbin asks you a question. You crack open one eye - she's standing there with the tea set already prepared, and you are feeling a bit thirsty, so you push yourself upright and nod. She smiles and sets the tray down, then pours your cup before her own. You take a small drink; you don't think you'll ever get used to the kind of tea they serve here.

"Hey, Tarbin?" She glances up as she pours her second cup, only spilling a bit of the tea as her hand shakes uncontrollably. "Do you think someone could teach me how to read?" She looks directly at you then, and drops the teapot onto the tray. No one else looks up.

"Ah, to read?" She looks thoughtful for a moment as she sits down, then brightens. "We could arrange for you to attend one of the schools -"

"No." You cut her off forcefully. "Not school, I don't need that. I want to learn how to read." She tuts at you.

"Now, now, it's no shame to go back to school after you've been away for a while, and you can make lots of friends!" She starts to say more, but you're already in motion, and she tumbles to the floor as you hurl the table at the far wall, smashing it to splinters. You stalk toward Tarbin, eyes gleaming, as she cowers and twitches on the floor.

"No. NOT school! I just -" You stomp your foot in frustration as you realize she isn't paying attention to you and turn to leave. Balfour rushes in just before you reach the door, but a glare from you silences him before he can speak. "You. I want something, so find someone with a working brain and send him to come talk to me." He jumps to the side as you sweep past him, and you walk to your room without incident. Once there, you wrap your blanket around yourself and curl up by the window so you can watch the rain when it comes.

A knock on the door catches your attention, but you don't respond, instead continuing to watch the sky. The storm passed on a long time ago, and the night sky is soothing. The door opens and someone coughs quietly, and you still don't react. After a moment, the door shuts and you hear someone sit in the chair. "What's this about reading and school?" You sigh; Verossa Acous.

"I want to learn how to read the language here," you say as you finally turn to face him. He looks ... tired. Or something. He doesn't look like he usually does, at least. "And I am not going to go to a school." He sighs.

"Well, getting you a tutor might be a bit difficult without one, but ... why?" You blink at him. "I mean, you've been here for ... quite a while, now, and you haven't mentioned anything about learning things, and then all of a sudden you want to learn how to read." You shrug.

"What, I'm not allowed to want to learn?" You pull the letter out and hold it toward him. "I got this earlier today, and I had to ask someone to read it to me, and I don't want stuff like that to happen again." He sighs and pulls himself out of the chair to come get the letter. He reads it, glances at you, reads it again, then rubs the side of his head.

"I see," he finally says, then takes a deep breath. "Well, finding you a tu-" Several loud roars and explosions cut him off, and you spin to look out the window just as several blue objects zoom down the street before arcing up into the sky. Verossa darts to your side and looks out as well. "Those are Drones!" You sigh. He watches them for several moments before he shakes himself and looks at you. He starts to say something, then swears vehemently as he steps back to bring up a screen. "W- ... Carim?" You glance at the screen to see the blonde woman yourself.

"Verossa, someone's attacking here; a mage, very powerful. We're putting up barriers, but he'll probably get through unless someone gets here soon." The image changes to a tall, hooded figure flanked by two giant beetles firing bolts at a multicolored barrier over the wall. You narrow your eyes; those look like the beetle that was with Lutecia that time on the roof .... The image switches back to Carim as a flash of lightning brightens the area. Her eyes widen as she looks at something else. "I know there's an attack going on there as well, but we don't know what this mage is after." Verossa nods quickly.

"Right, I'll see what I can get. Take care of yourself until someone gets there, alright?" Carim nods and the image cuts out. Verossa closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, clenching his fists.

What do you do?
[ ] Attack the drones. Their explosions and roaring are making the night less peaceful.
- Tactics?

[ ] Volunteer to help the Church. They were nice to you, after all.
- Tactics?

[ ] Refuse to help either group.

[ ] Wait until you get official orders from Balfour (or another superior), then follow them.

[ ] Negotiate for your assistance.
- Specifics?

DM Note: Just to make sure people are aware, it is raining at the Church, so keep that in mind.

Woa. Didn't realize school was a "trigger topic" for Flandre. What's going on there?

Anyways, dang it, Jail did his homework; attacking where we are at a disadvantage.

At least once it is revealed that this attack is from the same guy as the one who sent the letter, that should "vindicate" ourselves some to Headless about why not going was probably for the best after all.

For now, I guess just prepare to "have some fun" if the attackers manage to find a way inside.
