[X] Since the party is winding down, offer to introduce anyone who's interested to some of the more important personalities.
- [X] Akyuu.
You check with your clones once more. Reimu is in the midst of a drinking competition with the frog-hat girl, and Aya wanders into the entry hall with Suika and Yuugi, apparently intent on starting another one, but Akyuu and Alice are still safely ensconced on the balcony. "Anyway, the party is winding down now - the important guests will probably all be gone in an hour, and it'll be officially over in a couple more - so would you like me to introduce you to the Chronicler?" Ilya smiles and nods at Lulu; Vita, naturally, frowns suspiciously.
"And what kind of youkai is that?" Ilya beats you to responding, though.
"She's not a youkai, she's a human. Hieda no Akyuu. Is she still here, though?" You nod.
"Yep, still in the ballroom with Alice. She's the only important human who showed up who isn't busy," or insensate, like the other shrine maiden, "and since you might not see her when you visit the Human Village, it's a good chance if you do want to meet her." Nanoha and Fate look at each other, but Megane stifles a yawn before shaking her head.
"I do apologize, but I'm afraid I must decline." Lulu gives her a worried look.
"Mama, let's go to sleep." Her mother frowns at her, although she flicks a worried glance at you, too.
"I'm fine, Lulu, just a little tired. And it wouldn't do to be rude to our hosts by leaving too early." You titter and shake your head.
"It's not too early, and if you're feeling worn out, it would be better for you if you went to sleep instead of pushing yourself. It would hardly to do for a guest to strain themselves unnecessarily when they're supposed to be having a good time, after all." Lulu nods assertively at your support. "Do you want an escort back to your room, or do you and Lulu want to go back by yourselves?" Megane chuckles as Lulu sputters at your apparent betrayal.
"I think I'll be fine without a guide, thank you." She bows gracefully. Lulu actually gives you a pained look as her eyes flicker from you to her mother to Ilya. What does she think will happen if she goes to sleep now?
"Aaah, Lulu! Nothing is going to happen, okay? I'll be here, so just worry about taking care of yourself right now, okay?" Lulu stares at Agito for a moment, then blushes and nods slowly - then hurries forward to give you a hug.
"Good night, Flan." She repeats the process with Zest and Agito, then bows to Nanoha, Fate, and Vita, before taking her mother's arm and following her into the mansion. Agito looks a little embarrassed.
"I think we'll take you up on that, Flandre-chan," Nanoha says, and Fate nods before looking past you.
"What about you, Verossa? Will you be coming along, too?" He hesitates only a moment before shaking his head.
"We have to go back with King Dheginsea and Sir Naesala, which should be soon," Lethe says, and her sister pouts.
"And I'll be heading back to Mid-Childa then, so we'll just wait in the front hall so we're easy to find." You keep your suspicions in check, keeping your face neutral - but a second room wouldn't make you difficult to find, even if Remilia didn't have multiple ways to contact people or otherwise summon them. Instead of frowning suspiciously at them, you smile politely and bow your head. After a round of good-byes, they start moving toward the mansion … and you catch Fate frowning after them. At least you're not worrying over nothing.
"… So, let's go see Akyuu-chan, hm?" You blink and look at Nanoha, then laugh quietly and lead your diminished guests. "By the way, Flandre-chan? You said 'you' and not 'we' when you mentioned going to the Human Village. Aren't you going to be coming with us?" You mask a scowl and nod.
"I will be, but … well, youkai aren't liked in the Human Village. It makes the residents nervous. The ones who look like humans can get away with visiting from time to time, but it raises a fuss if they're obvious about what they are. More importantly … the Human Village is a sort of neutral territory, because if any faction of youkai controlled it, they'd be able to more effectively influence and control humans and thus belief. So youkai don't like it when other youkai express too obvious an interest. I might be able to go along with you, but especially with what just happened, it's probably better if I wait outside."
"Lulu's not going to like that," Agito mutters, and you nod before slowing slightly to pat Ilya's shoulder. She sticks her tongue out at you, then runs one finger along your wing, seemingly disappointed when you don't react. "… Anyway, what's this Chronicler like?" You shrug.
"I don't know. I've never met her - very few youkai have." You glance at Ilya and she chuckles.
"Huhuhu! She's kind of a sweet girl, except when she's older than she looks," she begins, drawing confused looks from Nanoha and Fate and irritated ones from Agito and Vita. "Very smart, and certain about what she knows, and curious about what she doesn't." You gesture up at the balcony where Akyuu and Alice are sitting.
"The smaller one is the Chronicler, the blonde is Alice Margatroid, a magician. The doll in black is Suigintou, the other is Shinku," you explain, pointing out the dolls sitting on the balcony keeping an eye on the room below.
"Well now, that's odd," Headless mutters, and you frown, not sure what she's referring to. "Remilia had to go send some guests home, right? But Verossa and the cats are still here, and so are the bald guy and the weird tengu. And over there are the twins and their dates. So who did she send back?" Your frown darkens at the suspicion in her voice, but you don't have a good answer.
"Presumably she sent some other guests to their home. Would you like me to ask her when I get the chance?" You shake your head and watch the twins waltz with their dates, then shrug it off. You notice Akyuu watching you, and she definitely looks intrigued, although Alice looks a little nervous for some reason. When you finally reach their table, you curtsy politely to the Chronicler. "Hieda no Akyuu, may I present my guests? This is Takamachi Nanoha, Fate Testarossa Harlaown, Zest Grangeitz, Agito, and Vita, all of Mid-Childa and serving in the Administrative Bureau. I believe you've met Illyasviel already. Everyone, this is Hieda no Akyuu, Chronicler of Gensokyo and Ninth Child of Miare." The Chronicler blushes slightly and looks a little embarrassed at having her full title used, but keeps control of herself and bows politely. "This is Alice Margatroid, the Seven-Colored Puppeteer." Alice, of course, has no trouble maintaining her composure and returns everyone's greetings. The Chronicler eyes you carefully as everyone else sits down.
"Flandre Scarlet, good evening. It's an honor to meet you." You bow your head. "And Illyasviel, it's good to see you again, and so well." Ilya smiles and leans forward.
"It's Alice's doing," she says, and now the magician blushes, as Akyuu looks at her questioningly. "Did you bring a copy of my article?" Akyuu shakes her head sadly.
"I'm sorry, it's still at my house. Maybe you can come by some time and read it before I add it to the next edition?" Nanoha glances at you, confusion evident on her face, and Akyuu nods. "Ah, I'm sorry. I am the Chronicler of Gensokyo. In order to maintain an encyclopedia on the important personalities of Gensokyo, I learn about the individuals in question and then create a brief article about that person. That's for the abridged Chronicles, anyway. The full Chronicles actually contain the full notes, speculation, and rumors about each person, but that would be impossible to compile and release for most people." Vita shakes her head.
"Wait, no - you're, what, twenty at most? Or are you one of those 'looks older than they are' types?" You resist the urge to snort at Vita's complaint, and when Akyuu looks over at you, you put an all-too-innocent expression on and study the ceiling.
"Well, the Chronicles have been updated and revised over the course of twelve hundred years," she begins, smiling wryly at the surprised expressions of the Mid-Childans, "but I'm only sixteen." Vita stares at her for a moment, glaring suspiciously at the Chronicler's serene, knowing, smile, and Fate shakes her head.
"… Fine, be that way," Vita huffs. Akyuu actually looks surprised, and Nanoha titters at Vita.
"Now, now, Vita-chan. Don't be rude." She smiles at Akyuu. "Vita-chan is very straightforward and doesn't like riddles. Please forgive her." The Chronicler shakes herself and nods.
"Of course, of course … well, I should explain anyway. I reincarnate, hence the title 'Ninth Child of Miare'. So while 'I' have been involved in all the Gensokyo Chronicles and can recall all the information contained in the records, 'Akyuu' has only been involved in the most recent edition." Vita frowns, then shrugs and nods, accepting the explanation.
