But I need to get to sleep right now.
Ah, sorry. Different timezone, for me it's afternoon. Have a good night's rest.

Anyway, if the GM say no, I don't see why we should argue him about it.
As I added to my previous post before seeing the two responses, not having time is a perfectly valid reason to answer 'no', as are AU differences and GM fiat.
Still, Flandre doesn't know yet that they might refuse. Personally, I don't think being answered with 'no' invalidates voting for a scene where we visit Shari. Especially as the other questions (sharing power, Loki checkup, spell card) are still interesting.

Honestly, given the difficulties with Loki, I could see Satsuki's magic having an even bigger case of incompatibility with IDs- Depletion Garden is not exactly . . . discriminate in what it drains. She is almost a perfect solo berserker unit, but collateral is a thing. I'm sure, eventually, it could be worked around with some time and study, but honestly they won't be able to just casually whip up a device that works with her nature.

Especially if no one has actually properly witnessed/scanned a full power Depletion Garden deployment and its effects on the world around it - given that Satsuki'd need to be near-insanely submerged in her vampiric nature to display it this early in her life, no less.

That said her talent for conventional magecraft is absurd, per Tsukihime canon, given that it was her extreme set of magic circuits that allowed her to awaken as a full Dead Apostle so soon after being bitten, skipping the entire 'Dead' part of the life cycle. So it's likely she'd do great with a generic storage device RIGHT up until she went all out, then *fizzle*, as far as I can extrapolate.

So yeah, I for one am not going to have any problem with her not getting a device.

Still feels far too much for going out of our way to get something we have no ability to repair ourselves if something happen. Even if we're not going to completely cut ties if Remilia's proposal works out. And I also despise the notion of 'Asking because you can'. It's like firing a shotgun and see if something hit center.

Now, as far as shopping goes, I wonder if gifts for others or some interesting things to bring back home we can only get here are an option.

Mmm, as per Vivid, Storage and Armed(Modern) Devices of up to B rank and capable of basic barrier jackets(like, the tournament works on life points based off barrier jacket strength remaining) are basically available on the open market, though none of those demonstrate even a basic AI or much in the way of secondary functions.

As per Strikers, Teana built her own Storage Device in her own time with market parts with no other technical skills of note.

So if the goal is to just run a barrier jacket and act as a PDA, I think Satsuki could literally buy one off the shelf. Unlike Flan, she is unlikely to smash it with overload.

Probably shouldn't use it as a melee weapon though. Bracelet or armlet maybe.

You do know that Illya can train Satsuki in the basic magecraft? If she has some knowledge about Dead Apostles, Illya had to guess that Satsuki has lot of high quality Circuits and it is strange, she didn't speak about it already.

I don't disagree? Basic magecraft would be no issue. I was merely thinking in terms of Intelligent Devices, and how they seem to be stressed when more extreme magical beings flex their might. Especially beings using powers those Devices were not specifically designed to handle.

The anti-magic ability Patchouli was referring to is Satsuki's Reality Marble, which was not deployed on Hroth, so the Barrier Jacket working isn't indicative of it being able to function despite her anti-magic.

I see. Still, it possible for a device to work inside Satsuki's Reality Marble if it was designed to be able to work within an anti-magic environment. In the Force continuity and Movie continuity in order to handle the Eclipse(Force) and Eltrian Formula System(Movie) which shut down all magic and nullify mana in the area of usage, TSAB commission some new equipment, AEC Armament(Force) and EM Equipment(Movie) in order to handle them. These devices-like equiment allow their user to perform magic like phenomenon under heavy anti-magic environment.

As far as Satsuki getting her own personal Device - unlikely, unless Satsuki declares that she wants to join the Bureau (which hasn't even really crossed her mind). At least, not a Device capable of using or being used for magic; a civilian-grade Device is basically an intelligent smartphone or PDA, but would require some hefty work to make it resilient enough to be used in combat. Some non-stressful spells, on the other hand, might not require too much modification - but at the point you're debating that, you have to ask whether it might not be better to ask Patchouli and Remilia for help, especially since they'll actually be on-hand if anything doesn't work.

In canon Nanoha verse, a lot of civilians who were not part of any law enforcement or military was able to acquire combat grade device as long they register a licence for it. That pretty much was shown in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid and ViVid Strike!. Especially Vivid Strike Fuuka Reventon who was a normal civilian. Also, not really asking the Bureau to give Satsuki one. Rather Flandre buying one for Satsuki own usage. Maybe something like Veekie pointed out.

Nanoha is an extremely special case, given that she got Raising Heart in a literal 'you're probably going to die if you don't take this' situation, where she was the only possible aid around, and was a naturally-talented mage. Vivid I admittedly haven't seen much of, but that generally deals with characters who have an established support structure of some kind (family and/or friends), and who are already practicing mages with relatively known styles. Satsuki is on friendly terms with some of them, but she isn't a practicing mage, and they would have to figure something else out, because she would have magic circuits instead of a linker core or Flan's magical bobbins.

Would The EM Equipment or a device from the EM Equipment tech from the Movie continuity work for Satsuki? The EM Equipment from the Movie continuity are battery driven and could be used by non-mages as well. One example is the Proto Cannon that is purely battery driven and those equipment batteries can be recharged through other means aside from a mage mana.

Satsuki's case, on the other hand, is going to be more like Flandre's own quest to gain a Device - at least a couple weeks of testing Satsuki for compatibility and then creating/modifying a Device to try and fit with her abilities. And since it won't be part of their duties, it's going to have to be on their own time (and for the testing phase, at night so they can work with Satsuki).

How long left still Flandre contract with the Bureau ended?

Was that ever explicitly confirmed? The translations of the dictionaries I've seen just say 'a body blessed with excellent potential' - and while I'm not sure what else they could have been referring to, it's not quite the same thing as 'she has the magic circuit capabilities of Ciel crossed with Aoko.' This is more me just being curious than anything else.

Subaru, too, IIRC, although she could plausibly have had help from Ginga or Genya.

I am aware of those, although as far as them being magic substitutes:
EM Equipment said:
AEC Armament usually outputs plasma, c/w electromagnetic force by EM Equipment.
That is, they're technological workarounds to compensate for the fact that they can't make magic work in those circumstances. They're powered by magic - or can be - but they're basically technology, not magic. They would work inside Depletion Garden for the same reason that Cortana (Halo) or an Iron Halo (40K) would. If this is an incorrect understanding on my part, please explain the difference - I haven't seen any of the movies except the first two, which didn't feature them.

The issue with market-bought Devices, even higher-grade ones, is that they're going to look at Satsuki and go 'Error: Linker Core not found'. If you just want to get her a PDA/Smartphone - as I said, nothing wrong with that. Getting her something that can handle magic is going to require studying her and figuring out how to get them properly synched.

And honestly, having this dropped on me last-minute isn't helping. If this had been brought up a week ago, when we were in the middle of an event and I had more time to work things out - maybe I'd be more willing to work on it and figure out how to make it work. And if you brought it up sometime after I asked for plotlines and I simply forgot or didn't notice it - then, yes, it's all on me and I apologize.

As far as how much time Flan has left ... about two weeks, -ish. Plus or minus plot :/

There are two weeks left on Midchilda, so why skip them? I think Flan can go to do some more work for TSAB, have some old fashioned violent fun ...
Remember when Entropy got annoyed at empty write-ins, like wanting to talk but providing no topics for Entropy to work with? This is exactly the same. If Entropy gives no mission options, then there's none left unless we provide a good idea.

Sadly, I am not familiar with Lyrical Nanoha setting enough to specify a mission for TSAB. Perhaps investigate something? I would personally want to see what happened to Hakurei shrine in this dimension?

So ...

- [X] Investigate Hakurei shrine and the region corresponding to Gensokyo in this dimension. Flandre mentioned the shrine and TSAB confirmed it existed in some form in this dimension. We know Fate dimension is a Mirror of Nanoha's Earth and so why not Gensokyo's Earth as well?

Actually Gensokyo's Earth is a lot like Nanoha's Earth, with Magic more active.

Some nice teas probably not found in Gensokyo, maybe, for Sakuya? Hm, wait she was sent to highschool wasn't she.
...Wait if she was sent to a modern-ish highschool (how new is Angel Beats? 2010?), maybe we could get her a civilian Device? If she discovered how useful phones are... She strikes me as being very utilitarian in her wants.

Patchy'd appreciate just about any books on magic we pick up from another world, bonus points if they're rare. It'll save her the effort of collecting them later on at the very least.

Meiling, hm. Not sure. A second little star lapel for her hat? A statuette of a panda? Exotic teas?

Illya's getting the clothes and such, but we could also totally get her a giant plushy. Like, a super-giant one... I feel like that would be squee-inducing.

Helping Satsuki to acquire/learning magic was something I thinks Flandre would do since it will help Satsuki grow as a vampire and strengthen her abilities. The TSAB is the one that Patchouli suggested to help her acquire/learn magic since Patchouli doesn't have the time nor the motivation to teach her magic. Illyasviel is also stated by Patchouli to be incapable of teaching her as well. So the TSAB.

"No. Setting aside the matter of whether she can use magic - she has an anti-magic ability as something that helps define her, after all - I have neither the time nor inclination to teach her magic, and I doubt Illyasviel is capable of teaching her, either." You scowl at her to no avail. "I have some items that could be used to grant her flight, but I likewise have no desire to grant them to her, at least not the ones that would be useful. Something that grants flight within the mansion or library alone I wouldn't mind giving in trade for something of value that you have, but not anything that you would want her to have. You might try asking the Mid-Childans, when you get there. Flight is considered a high-level skill for them, but if she does have some unique aptitude for it they may be able to help."

As shown at Hoth, having a device even a custom one that only cast Barrier Jacket help Satsuki a lot in combat. She can last longer during combat because she doesn't need waste energy regenerate from her injuries. So having a device would help her a lot in her magic studies and TSAB devices could also work with non-mage as well. Also I thought it would a plot line that would be brought up during Flan contract with TSAB but since we are skipping straight back to Gensokyo, might as well bring it up as one of the last things need to do. I also thought it would be running in the background as well. When it was shown that Satsuki was loan a device that gave her a barrier jacket, I thought that plotline was still ongoing.

The EM Equipment was featured in the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection movie and manga. While EM Equipment utilises electromagnetic force, they allow other magic based phenomenon that the TSAB had like the barrier jacket and flight as in an area where the Eltrian Formula System is deployed, magic will eventually be disabled. Kyrie Florian was able to easily able to cut through all of Fate magic including her barrier jacket during her fight with her. During the second half of the movie, all the TSAB staff all had at least one EM Equipment on hands since they were fighting the Materials and some mech made from Eltrian Tech which will have the Eltrian Formula System install since some the ealier mech that Kyrie and Iris used had them as well. This is most apparent with the normal TSAB Mages and Chono with their EM Rod.

The issue with market-bought Devices, even higher-grade ones, is that they're going to look at Satsuki and go 'Error: Linker Core not found'. In my post above, I kinda thought it was something was going on the background and something Flandre herself would be doing since training her Satsuki up is part of some the duties she had taking up herself and heping her acquire magic would be something she automatic thinks about.

Alright, civilian device sounds reasonable at least.

Flan is unfortunately too destructive to do their more typical missions, TSAB does a lot of subdual, law enforcement, wilderness ranger, etc type activities.
Flan is the Break Glass button.

Thats perfectly understandable, especially considering we're basically in the victory lap and Satsuki's combat ability isn't super important.

Based on whats done with them I think they're magic powered and enhanced technology, based on similar principles to Belkan Knight Weapons: Vita using Gigant Crusher would plow straight through an antimagic field, despite the hammer only being so enormous because of magic, the means of damage is physical.

Take that principle, and replace the Modern Belkan Blades with electromagnetic guided plasma fields, double down on the exotic physics shielding for the magic portions and you too can have a plasma bolt with homing properties which aren't inherently magic and can continue action in an AMF.

"Oh, stop that!" You blink at Headless's scolding. "She's not bowing and scraping, or calling you Exalted Grand Vampire, or anything like that! She's just grateful and surprised that you noticed so much!" You take a moment to consider your friend's point of view, and it does fit with what you know … and you've been trying to be careful about doing anything that could affect them. On the other hand, you didn't notice that Ilya was being affected - but the situations were greatly different, too. Headless is … probably right, and you calm yourself, caressing her tenderly until she growls unsociably and withdraws.

Cinque comes out of the dressing room blushing, but still wearing the clothes she came in, and you give her a look. "They … they fit," she says meekly, holding them tightly, and you shake your head. You would have liked to make sure, but if she's that embarrassed about it, there's nothing you can do. Well, nothing that won't get you into trouble, anyway; you're pretty sure you could force her back into the changing room and dress her yourself, but that would not be a productive effort.

"Alright, then. So, for Wendi and Nove?" Now she starts to look a little worried, but you simply follow behind her as she looks through the clothes. More importantly, your clones invisibly slip out and go hunting through the rest of the shopping center for gifts for everyone else. Meiling's gift is the simplest, but it still features a choice - she enjoys martial arts and cultivating plants, so things related to either of those subjects would be good. But any martial arts instructions you get her would have to be in book form, and those will be written in the Mid-Childan script, and so you'll have to translate them for her, or else teach her the language before she can use them properly. Teaching her the language shouldn't be too difficult, but it would just be one more thing …. On the other hand, based on what your clone sees in the modest gardening center, most of the plants they have wouldn't grow well in Gensokyo's climate and soil conditions, so getting them for her would make more work for her because she would have to put more effort into those plants, in particular - and she still has that crimson nirnroot, as far as you know. In the interests of simplicity, you decide to get her some texts on Mid-Childan 'Strike Arts' and a couple other combat styles. It'll be easy enough to get them translated, even without Patchouli or Remilia's help.

You smile as Cinque fidgets and flits between different clothing racks. She's normally so calm and composed, seeing her unsure and indecisive is a bit of a treat - almost like seeing Sakuya flustered. Considering the chief maid, you have no idea what to get her, however. She rarely seems to want anything, and all she does is her job. Erring on the side of caution, your clone in the bookstore searches through the cookbooks; the one thing you're sure of is that she sometimes makes something new to eat, surprising your sister, so if you can help expand her knowledge on that front, it should be good. A slight problem with ingredients may exist, of course, but looking over the shoulder of another customer, your clone sees that several options are given for most of the ingredients in that particular book, so you make a note of it and send it on its way.

Considering the size of the bookstore, it seems odd that you don't think you'll find anything of particular interest to Patchouli. True, she would accept just about anything she doesn't already have, but the interesting books - higher-level magic theories and teaching books - aren't present, only the basics. And given the amount of information she and Remilia seem to have on this world, she probably already knows everything in those books. Of all the remaining residents of the Mansion, she's the one you would also consider most for a Device - she doesn't consider her appearance very often, so being able to freshen up so easily might be something she would appreciate, even if she can do it herself with her own magic. Still, your clone shakes its head and passes by the Device shop; given your own experiences with Loki, you doubt that getting something for someone else is as simple a matter as picking out color and design. In the end, you settle for a rather encyclopedic set of books on Mid-Childan and Bureau history.

Koakuma, on the other hand, is downright simple, and as Cinque finishes picking out the clothes for her sisters you head back to the costumes section. Cinque frowns quizzically as you head past the outer areas and into the deeper sections. Koakuma likes a few things, but among them are clothes and skirting the lines of rules. You don't really approve, of course, but it makes it easy to get her something. One is a red suit with a flowing overcoat, big floppy hat, and orange glasses, and that is perfectly fine, but the other looks suspiciously like what you usually see Carim wearing, only with a little … emphasis on certain areas. It's the sort of thing that doesn't quite cross the line but is obviously intended to - the sort of thing that Koakuma enjoys, that makes you slightly irritated, and that would drive Patchouli up the wall of the library. Given that she has so many outfits of that type, you can't help but wonder if your sister is helping her, too. Cinque stares incredulously and you grin before patting her head. Still not as adorable as Ilya …. Much as it goes against your principles, you find an even slinkier dress that should fit Deis well. Such a shame that you know her tastes so well, but they don't lend themselves to gifts - handsome, well-muscled men and good food aren't the sort of thing you can just buy and give as a gift, after all.

Hmm … what about Illyasviel, Sella, and Leysritt? You don't know any of them well enough to get them something appropriate, and you're not sure how Sella and Leysritt would take being offered a gift, either. After browsing the costumes for a few minutes, ignoring Cinque's increasingly curious looks, you simply shrug and wander out to collect the rest of the items. Illyasviel in particular might be irritated, but if you can't think of something you can't think of something.

Of course, there is one more person. Your sister is … difficult … to get things for, because you're never sure if you're getting her something she wants, or if she's just good enough at fooling you that you can't tell. Everything you've gotten for her has either been used with relative frequency, or been placed in a position where it can be seen, according to its status, but how much is because she actually wants to use or look at those things, and how much is because it's something you got for her? What should you get for her …? After wandering aimlessly through the store for half an hour, somehow managing to miss Lutecia and Megane, you eventually give up. Hopefully you can find something for her ….

The next few weeks pass well. You start teaching Satsuki about make-up, as well as continuing her basic education. Your long-running games with the Numbers - who are embarrassed but grateful for the gifts - begin coming to an end. You even go on two brief missions - an intervention during a civil war in which the losing side attacked a refugee and hospital camp, which was irritating because despite the circumstances, you still weren't allowed to kill them … and an attack on the space base that had hired the pirates who attacked the hospital oh so long ago. That was only interesting until two of your clones found and shut down the primary power supply, at which point it became fun, hunting down and slaughtering pirates and slavers in darkened and red-lit passageways. You even got a present for Remilia out of it, thanks to Admiral Crowbel's permission to use lethal force: the skulls of the three most powerful mages on the station, suitably polished and adorned with ruby eyelights.

Finally, however, your time on Mid-Childa comes to an end, and after a pre-dawn exit interview with Admiral Crowbel and her partners, you head back to Long Arch one last time. Nanoha and Vita are already there, talking with Fate, and Satsuki chats amicably with Nove, Wendi, and Ginga. Cinque, apparently, is sick and won't be able to see you off. Strange, when she seemed so fine last night …. When a car comes down the road to Long Arch, you smile and hop down from the roof to meet them. Lutecia barrels out of the car, followed moments later by Agito, and you squeeze her and spin her around.

"Good morning, Flandre." You set Lulu down and bow to Megane.

"Good morning, Megane. Zest." You pat Agito on the head. "I think everyone else is inside already." Zest and Megane are wearing their uniforms, as are Fate, Nanoha, and Vita, but Agito and Lulu are wearing more normal clothes. "Do you want to change? Or are you comfortable like that?" Zest shakes his head as Megane laughs behind her hand.

"I am fine," he says, and Megane nods. Your clones spill out to take their luggage, and you head inside. Fate and the others are already waiting, although Fate has her business face on. She starts to say something - and Koakuma appears in the middle of your group, interrupting her. She looks around, grinning.

"Everyone ready? Goodbyes said? Long-winded speech about relations and business and finding things out about Gensokyo avoided?" Fate blushes and Nanoha turns away, trying not to laugh, and Koakuma giggles. "Then let's go." She snaps her fingers, and you all appear in the library, although you're ordered differently - instead of a circle, you're in an arrowhead formation, with yourself at the front. Of course, this places you closest to Remilia, who's sitting on top of a trilithon that you're pretty sure wasn't here when you left. More interestingly, she's lazily swinging a massive axe - if anything, it's larger than Leysritt's halberd, and you can't help but wonder where she got it.

"Hello, everyone! Nice to meet you - I think I've met all of you before, actually, except Megane. I'm Remilia Scarlet, and I would like to thank you for taking care of my sister while she was in your care. The party is tonight, nothing will start happening until after the sun goes down - as I believe you all know, dress code is formal, uniforms allowed. Members of the service industry are required to wear their uniforms - sorry, Satsuki." She grins at your servant, then cocks her head at you.

"Hello, Remilia. Thank you for meeting us." You curtsy, taking the opportunity to look around - Ilya, Sella, Leysritt, Koakuma, Patchouli, Illyasviel, Sakuya … only Ilya isn't looking at you, but to your right … at Lutecia. Oh, dear. "Changing weapons?" Remilia looks surprised, then looks confusedly at the axe in her hand before grinning.

"Oh, this! No, I'd gotten it to maybe offer Leysritt, so she could dual-wield, but young Illyasviel decline the offer. She's got the wrong figure for cosplaying, too. Satsuki might be able to wear it - how does she look in red and black? But that's for you and her to decide, I suppose -" She breaks off as Ilya and Lulu walk towards each other. She motions for you to keep calm as they stop a step apart and stare at each other intensely. Sella and Leysritt look calm, but a look back at Megane shows that she's torn between worry and irritation. "Crikey! Stay back, everyone. You don't want to startle 'em. I 'aven't seen a magical girl dominance battle this intense since the great Dokuro-chan/Djibril staredown of '93!" The mounting tension freezes at your sister's monologue, and you see blushes spreading across your friends' faces. Still, they don't look away from each other, so you carefully creep up to them and sloooowly edge your face into their peripheral vision. Their blushes intensify, and both look away at the same time.

Good. Crisis averted … although you will have to introduce everyone, now.

What do you do?

[ ] After introducing everyone, show them around and let them relax until the party. See which of your invited guests show up right before the party starts.
