[X] Kill Tool.
- [X] Wait until night.
- [X] Ask Fate if she happen to have any lullaby she enjoyed when she was younger.
You stand silently for a moment before nodding once. "Alright. Is tonight too soon?" She looks up at you, eyes dim.
"Tonight? You'll …?" You nod again.
"I'll kill her. Tonight, quickly." She screws her eyes shut and breathes raggedly.
"Ye- … yes. Tonight - works."
"Then let's go back to Long Arch for now." You hold out your hand to help her up and the two of you make your way back to Fate's car. As she starts driving slowly, you find yourself lost in your own thoughts. Fate, the older sister, wants to stay with her sister. Tool, the younger sister, wants to leave. And Remilia, your older sister, has never wished to be separated from you - all of your separations have been initiated by you, or by an outside factor. That time, and your withdrawal from daily life in the rest of the mansion, those were you. Remilia still tried to see you … and this recent string of adventures. It was initiated by you, and even when you had to be rescued following your destruction of the great black dragon, you left, on your own, instead of staying with your older sister. Is it simply a fact of existence, how older and younger sisters work? Or is there simply something different about Fate and Remilia, about you and Tool, that makes you want the same things?
You gnaw at the thought until Fate pulls into the Long Arch parking lot. "Around … around eleven? Most of the visitors should be gone by then." You nod.
"Is there anything particular I need to do or wear?" She shakes her head. "Do you have any lullabies or the like from when you were younger? To put her in the mood for rest and sleep?" Fate's composure crumbles and she shakes her head. A pity. You pat her shoulder as Ginga and Alph come out to meet you, then slip out of the car. "Back inside, Ginga; gather your charges somewhere I can talk to them." Alph gives you a look as you gesture back at Fate with your head as you gently push Ginga back inside, then the familiar bounds over the car to help the mage. "I'm going up to get changed, then I want to talk with them about how the meeting with Lulu went." She smiles and shakes her head, but does as you ask.
The next few hours pass quietly. You tell the prisoners about Lutecia's place, and how she seems to be fitting in reasonably well. When you tell them about her demand that the four of you get along well - "or else" - Cinque smiles. Since meeting you, it seems her shell has been broken quite thoroughly, and they see it as a good thing. And, of course, the younger sisters are dismayed by Lutecia's absolute devotion to the chocolate-honey cake. After talking with them - and giving Fate time to reaffix her mask of calm - you withdraw to your piano, rejoining the others only for dinner after Satsuki wakes up. Your servant is temporarily saddened by your refusal to give her a lesson, but a short explanation that you have something important to do quiets her.
And then it's time to go. Fate seems to have mastered herself once more, although she remains quiet and distant through the drive. The hospital receptionist gives her a kindly smile; it seems she's somewhat known here, despite the short amount of time that Tool would have been kept here. You watch her as you get into the elevator. "… Do you have a preferred method? If not, I will make it as short and painless a process as I can." That almost breaks her again, but she manages to shake her head.
"Please," she manages to croak out. "Just that." You proceed silently to the only used room on the floor the elevator stops at. Tool looks up from her bed as the door opens, and if she looks pleased to see Fate, her ruined face smiles with unapologetic joy when she sees you.
"Then - I will die? I will be free to see Mother?" Fate swallows and nods, and you step past her.
"You will die." You examine the wreck of a human being and barely keep yourself from shaking your head - that Fate wanted to keep such a broken creature alive speaks poorly of her … or her state of mind. She adjusts something at one of the terminals on the wall, then sits down next to Tool and gently strokes the girl's arm, the one that doesn't have needles and tubing connecting it to bags of liquids hanging from a small stand. In her hospital gown, old injuries are even more starkly visible than when you last met her - two scars on her neck, not merely the one you remember, and the poorly-healed fingers are even more obvious. You shake your head at the malice and callousness of mankind - a youkai might do something like this, whether for curiosity or fun, or just to pass the time, but this is behavior that humanity has been trying to breed out since time immemorial. Perhaps that is why youkai exist - there must be monsters in the world, and humans would prefer that the monsters not bear a human soul.
"Thank you. Thank you both." Her mind's voice is so desperately happy, so relieved, that you can't help but look at Fate - but she pays you no mind, and barely seems aware of the tears running down her face. You walk over to the other side of the bed and gently touch her shoulder.
"Can you sit up?" She nods and you help her get upright. More scars on her back, some from a whip. There is only one real option you have for your target, and it is fortunate for her that she has so little hair, that it is so short. You gently stroke her back, her shoulders, the back of her head. She leans against Fate, and the mage takes over for you.
"Can you tell me about Mother?" Fate freezes, eyes almost panicked as she looks at you. "I have her memories, of course - but you met her, right? Are the memories right?" Fate's eyes bore into yours - and you nod and gesture for her to respond. Let the girl relax, let her last moments be ones of kindness and hope.
"Mother - she … she loved her daughter very much. She was … so very kind to her. She would let nothing stand in their way." You blink as Fate begins talking, then take out Laevateinn. This isn't a fight, so you can be precise. It isn't even an execution - this is a mere formality, showing the world that the girl called Tool truly is dead. "Nothing would stop her from making her daughter the happiest girl in the world -" You aim, carefully, and then your precious gift thrusts forward like a bolt of black lightning, striking through the base of Tool's skull, severing the top of her spine and jerking upward ever so slightly to savage her brain. Her body twitches forward before slumping, and only Fate's grip on it keeps it from falling back. You step back, watching the grief-stricken mage for a moment until she gently lays the corpse back on the bed.
"Should I tell anyone downstairs?" She shakes her head.
"I - I'll take care of everything. Thank you, Flandre." Her voice quivers.
"And Alph?" She nods.
"I'll - I'll be back before long. Tell her not to …." She trails off as she raises one bloody, uncontrollably-shaking hand and stares at it. Her eyes seem to die a little, and she simply stares at her hand as if nothing else exists.
"… Fate? Fate?" She finally looks up at you. "Will you be requiring my services too?" It takes her a worryingly long time for her to shake her head - to decide that, no, she still has things to take care of …. She smiles, a weak and pitiful thing.
"I'll be fine. Thank you, Flandre. Tell … Tell Alph not to worry. I'll be back in a few hours, once I get the paperwork finished." You stare at her for a moment more, then incline your head.
"I will. I'll see you back at Long Arch then, Fate Testarossa Harlaown." She holds your gaze for a few seconds before nodding and turning to look at the corpse on the bed, looking so much more comfortable and relaxed than it had in life. You leave the hospital, bowing politely to the receptionist - and then, since it's such a nice night, you run back to Long Arch. You only meet one person, a fool with a knife that you leave to die a slow and painful death from your clones' attentions, and once you're away from the built-up part of the city you fly, very low and very fast, cutting across the land where there is no road. Alph and Satsuki are waiting for you, both worrying, and both satisfied by your explanation that things went as well as they could have. Alph smiles and declines an offer to help make something for Fate. "… Do you want to know what happened, Satsuki?" Your servant looks uncomfortable for a moment, then shakes her head.
"It seems like … something private, Flandre-sama." You nod approvingly.
"Mm. Come. I feel like playing the piano some more, and I want to hear how well you've improved with your singing." Satsuki blushes and you suspect she hasn't been practicing quite as much as she should have been … but her voice is pleasant enough, anyway.
