[X] Skip to seeing Ilya.
"… So, when are we getting the full tour?" You look at Deis for a moment before shrugging.
"Well, like I said, I'd need to get permission for some areas, and we're going to be busy for a while - or I'm going to be elsewhere - so it could be a while. For now …." You stretch and float forward off the railing. "For now, I'm going to do some relaxing if it's okay. Don't want to be too excitable tomorrow." Deis nods and sighs.
"Yeah, I'm still not sure if I'm coming to that." You shrug again.
"You have some time to make up your mind - and even if you don't come with Ilya and me, you can come on your own later on." You float toward her and 'pat' her head, leading her to swat at you with a burst of wind. "Hmph. And you, Satsuki? Anything you need or want to do?" She shakes her head.
"No, Flandre-sama."
"Then I have one more thing for you to do before I let you go for the night, but it'll have to wait until we get back to my room. Are you coming with us, Deis?" She shrugs.
"Sure, why not?" You clap your hands and lead them back down to the library, and then to your room. Once there you have Satsuki change into a more formal uniform - and then you paint her portrait. You'll have it put in a proper frame and everything, then give it to her as a gift. You also make a painting of Ershin, and the little tsukumogami manages to convince Deis to appear in it as well. That, too, will be given to them when it's ready and they have a place to put it.
Then you pass the hours lazily - a few simple magic squares, some simple piano pieces, picking a random book from the library and reading it for a while, and just laying on a couch without any greater meaning. You even take a nap after breakfast with Satsuki.
You wait impatiently in your room until shortly before Patchouli's ban expires, then make yourself walk at a normal pace to where Ilya is. You don't want to make it seem like you're desperate to see her again, but you also don't want her to feel like you aren't worried about her … and if you wait for too long, you won't be able to get her to the party early enough. You are quite relieved when, ten minutes after the ban expires, you walk into the lab area and Ilya perks up immediately. You hurry forward and hug Ilya as Sella and Leysritt bow politely. She leans into you and returns the hug as well as she can.
"Are you feeling better, Ilya? Was Patchouli too irritating? Did she make sure you had enough to eat? Do you want -" You clamp your mouth shut, cutting off the stream of questions, and pull out of the hug, making sure to keep Ilya steady until she regains her balance. "
Are you feeling better? Whatever was wrong with you yesterday isn't a problem anymore?" She pouts at you, seeming … both irritated and embarrassed? After a moment she looks down and shakes her head.
"Um, I'm fine, Flan. Really. It's just …." She peeks back up at you, and embarrassment is plain on her face. "I was … scared, yesterday." You blink in confusion.
"Of Marisa?"
"Of Marisa … of those magic blasts she was firing toward the end. Those are
powerful, Flan, and even though they're limited by the Spell Card system, in terms of magical energy they were close to a Noble Phantasm. And she was just … shooting them out without a care." She hesitates and you tilt your head.
"But that's because she uses her …." Realization dawns and
you blush.
Did you tell her about that?
"I-I must have forgotten about it. And I didn't realize that she was one of the best human mages in Gensokyo even without counting it, so … um, I thought that she was the usual kind of mage." She lowers her head again.
"I - I think
I forgot to tell you about it, Ilya. And if I did, it would have been back at your castle, that one night when we were just talking. So it's not your fault, especially since I should have explained things better - well, since I really shouldn't have taken you to see the duel in the first place." Ilya looks up, almost pouting again - but after a moment she laughs a little and shakes her head.
"Alright, we're equally guilty. Anyway, Patchouli told me about it, and since it really
is a legendary tool, the amount of power it has isn't so scary. Umm …." She frowns, trying to remember your questions, but looks up brightly before you can repeat any of them. "We did eat, but - there'll be food at the party?" You nod.
"Yup! And maybe a
big fish that I brought back yesterday." Her eyes widen and she giggles.
"That's good." Her expression falls and she shifts uncomfortably. "Umm … you remember what I told your sister? That I wanted to go with you to Mid-Childa?" You watch her carefully and slowly nod. She blushes again and looks down. "Um, Patchouli … offered to take me to see my parents. If I stayed, anyway, because she wanted as simple a trip as possible, but -" She gives you an unhappy look and clenches her hand, trying to hug herself. You lean forward and hug her again. You aren't sure
why Patchouli would make that kind of offer, but she
probably isn't planning anything unsavory. Even if you didn't know and just asked what had happened to Ilya if she vanished, the truth would have come out, especially once Remilia got involved. So it probably
is an offer in good faith, but … why make it? You support Ilya again as she sits upright.
"… I don't know
why she would do something like that, but - well, like with your arm and leg. If you want to go see them, go. They're your family, right?" She nods, slowly and hesitantly. You try to look into her eyes, to see what she's actually feeling, but she shakes her head quickly and takes a quick breath to center herself.
"A-anyway. So the party will be soon, right?" You recognize the attempt to shift the conversation for what it is, but it's fine. If you think of a reason for her to not trust Patchouli, you'll let her know. "Will … will these clothes be fine?" She looks down at her shirt and skirt and takes the empty sleeve in her hand. You pat her head and smile.
"Yep. Although Sakuya
did say that she made some nice dresses for you if you want to wear something different …." You look around the lab area. She didn't say
where they were, though, so - you hop away from Ilya's bed and fly toward one of the bookshelves. That cabinet wasn't there before. You open it and find several dresses hanging inside. You turn back and almost gesture for her to come over, but it seems her servants recognize your meaning. Leysritt gently picks up Ilya and carries her over to the cabinet - slowly, but without any of the shuffling or limping you would expect from someone who'd been as badly hurt as she was.
"Can you take them out, Flan?" You nod and open the cabinet fully and take out the first dress - pale lavender, sleeveless, with a white cloth 'belt' adorned with a lavender flower. Another flower serves as a headpiece, and there is a bracelet and matching shoes as well. Ilya stares at it, taken aback, and swallows before nodding. You hang it back up and take out the next one - a white skirt with purple flower prints, a purple shirt and black jacket, and a purple-and-red jeweled necklace. Ilya nods more slowly and you hang it back up. The third dress you take out is a strapless purple-and-white dress, with a darker purple belt and choker and white gloves. It, too, has a lavender flower, and after another nod you put it away. The final dress causes Ilya to stiffen unhappily, however - a simple white dress with gold trim. She shakes her head quickly and you put it back. She looks
irritated by that dress, for some reason … but you shouldn't pry. Instead your clones slip out and take up the three dresses that Ilya indicated that she liked.
"I guess she only made the four dresses. She did say that Patchouli might be able to help if you wanted something else, but I'm not sure how well whatever she does will work or fit." Ilya nods and looks at the three dresses before looking nervously at you.
"What will you be wearing?" You shrug.
"I hadn't thought about it, really. If it makes you feel better, I could try to match how fancy my outfit is to yours." You grin and lean closer. "Or do you want me to choose for both of us?" Ilya blushes and looks down, and you tap her nose. "It's okay, Ilya. I haven't been to a party in a long time, so it's a new experience for both of us!" She smiles before glancing at Sella, but the servant shrugs helplessly as well. You shake your head in mock-sadness.
