[X] Talk to Lutecia.
[X] So, this is goodbye for now, huh?
-[X] You would have kind of wanted to travel more with her, try to make her smile more often, but you do understand she wants to see her mother.
-[X] Since you'll be returning to her world at some point, perhaps she can show you around when you arrive? Not like you've seen everything there. Then you could try to arrange things so that she can visit your home too.
[X]... I kind of want both, but...
-[X]Rods
But that can wait. Your gaze slips back to Lutecia as you take a few steps forward, and she stands up and walks toward you. Instead of stopping when you do, however, she takes advantage of your pause to throw her arms around you before you can say anything. Momentarily stunned, you return the hug, leaning into her and just trying to remember her, fix her in your memory. You pull away at the same time, and you smile to match her expression.
"Thank you, Flan. For keeping me safe, and for your support. For saving me, and teaching me how to play the piano, and …." Tears start forming in her eyes as she thanks you, and you pull her close again as she starts to trail off. You hold her until she calms down.
"It's alright, Lulu. Thank you - for putting up with me, and for being my friend." She wipes her eyes with one hand, holding your hand with her other one. "I … I kinda wish we could have gone more places together, places where I could have seen you smile more, but your mother is waiting, isn't she?" Lutecia nods, but it's Zest who speaks up.
"She has not yet recovered, and is in the hospital, but she is unhurt." You nod your appreciation.
"Then I guess this is goodbye for now, huh? Well … um, I'm actually going to have to go back to Mid-Childa at some point, so we'll see each other again. Maybe we could meet up, and you could show me around? I didn't really get to see much of it last time …." Lutecia nods, but her smile dims and she looks up at Zest.
"We are still gonna be criminals when we get back, you know. And since our first stop is to see Lulu's mother, that means we're probably gonna get arrested." You scowl and pout at Agito, and she shrugs before flitting over and landing on Lutecia's shoulder. "Just make sure that you're gonna give us a tour of Gensokyo when we get some time. Wouldn't be fair if you didn't, especially since you already told us about parts of it!" You giggle and nod. You'll need to get out a bit more, make sure you aren't working off old information ….
"Of course!" You glance, still smiling, at Zest. "And you'll be coming as well?" He snorts gently, something like a smile brightening his face.
"Ah. I think it would be nice to see more of that place." You stare at him, surprised, but he simply stands up. "And now we should be going. Prolonging goodbyes increases the desire to stay." Your wings droop unhappily as Lutecia steps away from you. Well, maybe now you'll be able to get a ring or necklace done for her … even if she'll have to wait to get it.
"You'll see us off, won't you, Flan?" You nod as tears start forming in your own eyes, and Zest pulls apart a small red chain that had been sitting on the table. As he tosses it away, arcs of lightning, blue and red, twist into the frame of an oval of shimmering air, and in a few more moments it shows the hallways inside a more modern building. A white-haired man walking the other way starts to turn back. Lutecia clenches her hands into fists, and after a teary-eyed glance back at you she runs through the portal, Agito flying quickly after. You stare at them a moment longer, then look up to see Zest giving you an odd look. Before you can say anything, though, he gives you a single brief nod and steps through the portal, spear in hand.
The portal splits into two vertical pieces after that, one dark and one showing the hallway from a slightly different angle. Time speeds back up to normal, and when the man finishes turning you think he seems familiar. Had you met him when you were in Mid-Childa? He seems first startled, then … a bit frightened? But Zest steps forward and sets his spear against the wall, followed by Lutecia giving up her gloves. You really wish Remilia would let you hear what was happening … but this is still good. Several moments pass, and you can't tell what's being said, but then the older man nods and gestures at a door to his left. Lutecia dashes through, fumbling with the handle, and the other portal flares into life as she steps through, revealing an older woman, looking a lot like a mature Lutecia, sleeping on the bed. Well, you know it's not really sleep, and there are machines like the ones they used to study you, but she's there and she's alive. Lutecia stops just short of the bed, then slowly and hesitantly walks up to the woman's side. She throws herself forward, burying her face in the woman's shoulder, and you can tell by the shaking of her shoulders that she's crying. She's like that for several minutes before she jerks her head up and looks away, and you glower at the figures in the other portal. Nanoha is standing there, a kind expression on her face, hand extended. And as Lutecia starts walking toward her, after one last look at her mother, the portals cut out.
It doesn't take you long to tear the tree to pieces.
You walk open the door and step into the entry hall, but Remilia isn't waiting there for you. You consider going through the next door, but then you see her back in the main hall with the blue orb. She seems absorbed in whatever she's doing but looks up when you get closer, a concerned expression on her face.
"Feeling better?" You nod and she walks over to hug you, leaving her wings out this time. "So, have you made your decision, or do you want more time?" You shake your head as she pulls back.
"I do kind of want both …." She smirks and you raise your head superiorly. "But I think I'll take the rods. Er -!" Your hands fly to your mouth as you realize what it seemed like you were saying, but Remilia laughs and waves her hand.
"No, it's fine. I understand, you want to go explore lots of things, and even if you have a whole world to explore, you'll feel constrained if I'm there." You nod slowly.
"And … um, I won't know if I'd like any given place, so restricting it to just one world if you go with me is …." You trail off, and Remilia gives you a thoughtful look.
"Far-thinking of you. Have you always been like this, or is it a recent development?" You blink, head tilted, and she shakes her head. "In any case, I rather thought you would choose this, so I began preparing some things for you." She passes you the rods, three short pieces of ivory, two white and one black. You stress one of them experimentally - it wouldn't take a lot of force to snap one - and put them safely away. "Now, if you would turn that Device off and hold still …." You hesitate for a moment, then cut off the flow of power to Loki and deactivate it, leaving you in your local dress - and the pack with the Nirnroots, chiming irritatingly. You look down at your feet.
"Um, I didn't want to at-" Remilia steps up to your, lifts your face, and gives you a deep kiss. Blood flows into your mouth and you swallow it - more power than just her blood should give you flows into you, and when your sister steps back she seems tired for an instant. "Remilia?" She shakes herself and smiles.
"Protection, my dear sister. Fate flows around you now, so those who rely on foresight, prophecy, and other readings of destiny will have a much harder time using it to determine your actions and capabilities, when they can see you at all. Such is my first gift." She looks down at your dress, and you shrink back again. "May I see your clothes?" Wordlessly, you take out your clothes, but you hesitate to show them to your sister. She chuckles and presses against the top, pushing it against you, and you can tell she's doing something, but …. "There. You don't need to worry, now. Short of complete destruction, they will repair themselves if you put them away." Your eyes go wide and you start to smile, but she raises a finger warningly. "It will take energy, more than you'd think if they're badly damaged, and I would suggest not putting anything important that's made of cloth in there unless it's inside something else." You nod and throw yourself forward anyway, squeezing your sister in a joyful hug. Her wings gather around you, their tips crossing over your spine, and when they separate you let Remilia go.
"Thank you, Remilia." She looks embarrassed as you mumble the words, and you think you see something start to glisten in one eye before she turns away.
"… You're welcome, Flandre. But I have a third gift yet." You look up and Remilia spins to face you, perfectly composed, and when she throws her hands in the air, portals burst into existence around you. You stare in awe and Remilia preens. "If you're in this room and you hold one of the rods out, the portals will activate. While you are in this world, so long as you can return here, you won't need to spend a rod to leave. My third gift to you, Flandre." She gives you one more hug, then the portals spin about you until one showing the Library stops in front of you. "Is there anything else you want, before I leave?"
