[X] Start the ritual the day after.
[X] During the Night.
[X] Residential Area.
"Hmm … okay, then, I guess we should go to bed now." You grin at Agito as she finishes straightening her hair.
"What, not going to tell me what you have planned?"
"Hehe! I just haven't decided yet, that's all." A lie, that - you're going to wait, let Lutecia recover a little. You just want to be the one to tell her, and Agito doesn't need to know anyway. She sighs and shakes her head.
"Alright, well, good night. Don't think too hard about it." She nods before flying up to the door and leaving you to your thoughts. Lutecia probably won't take it well, having to wait, but you can convince her … probably. There are options, anyway. People … you'll have to say goodbye to Homura, thank her for her hospitality. Saya and the others? They'll be busy - the magicians especially, since they'll be getting ready for everything to happen and taking care of the city. Preparations for leaving ….
You sigh and leave the library. You'll have all day tomorrow, and the day after as well. No sense trying to plan everything right now. You go to your room and curl up on the bed, thinking and waiting.
"You cheated, didn't you?" Agito gives you a haughty grin.
"I did not. Go and check what I used. I'll even show you how to make it, if you want." You look down at breakfast again and decide it isn't worth it.
"Nope! I guess we'll just have to make you head chef and quartermaster. How did you like it, Lutecia?" Your eyes slide to the silent magician, and Agito frowns momentarily before looking over as well. Lutecia gives a small shrug.
"It was good," she says, and your eyes narrow slightly. She shakes herself. "I'm sorry, Agito. I just …." Agito nods glumly and you lean back.
"So, did you have any plans for today?" Agito jerks her head, eyes widening in shock. "I'd suggest something relaxing, so you're ready to leave tomorrow." Lutecia comes alive, jerking back and staring at you.
"But … but we can leave today! We can start everything right now!" Agito winces.
"We could, yes, but that wouldn't be for the best. You're tired, you aren't properly aware, and if you make a mistake, we'll all suffer. With the level of power you will be working with, you could kill yourself." She trembles, and you can see tears coming from her scrunched-up eyes. "Eagerness is good, but obsession isn't. It leads to mistakes, to -"
"You're obsessed! You can do whatever you want, and you wo-!" You interrupt Lutecia's outburst in the most direct way possible, springing sideways from your chair - sending it splintering back and destroying the chair behind it - and catching her by the throat and shoving her against the wall. You aren't as angry as you seem, though, or you'd actually have slammed her against it; instead, you slow your thrust and merely hold her against the wall as you glare.
"And I'm such a good role model, aren't I? What should I do, then - rush to the hospital for some laudanum, something to make you go to sleep? It's not good for you, and I'd probably hurt you, but I can do whatever I want, can't I?" She starts shaking, and by the time tears are streaming down her face you're already moving her down and hugging her. "I know. It's hard, waiting when you want to do something right now, but it really is better to wait. Calm down, gather your strength and focus on the task at hand. Be ready for the moment when it comes, because we won't get a second chance, not one as good as this." She sobs into your shoulder as you whisper to her, and then you step away, holding her up. "Do you want to take a bath, get cleaned up, or just go to sleep?" She shakes her head. "Go to sleep?" She nods, and you smile and hug her again. "Alright. I'm going to let you go, now. Go with Agito, okay?" She nods, still crying, and you guide her to the fairy. You can't read her expression, so you aren't sure how unhappy she is with you, but that doesn't matter. "Stay with her, okay? I'll clean up here." And you proceed to do that once they're gone, heading up the stairs. Dishes are washed, food is put in the fridge to be stored, and the shattered remains of the chairs are thrown out. You're about to see Homura when someone knocks on the door, and you open it to find Kyouko. She frowns at you, and you smile up innocently.
"Yeah, I do know a bit more about you. Mami wasn't right to attack you then, but she wasn't far off in her estimate of you, was she?" You giggle.
"No, not really. Things could have happened differently, of course, but I suspect we were bound to fight sooner or later. Did you have business with Homura?" She glances inside, as if wondering whether to enter, and grimaces.
"Maybe. She won't answer, but - well, someone did something yesterday, something covering almost the whole city, and we can't do anything about it. Sayaka and I were hoping she knew something about whatever it is." You put a finger to your lips, as if you were thinking.
"Hmm … did this 'something' go along the river, cut across north of Sayaka's house, then make a right angle going back to the river?" Kyouko shifts her footing and glares at you.
"Yeah. It did. Something you did?" You grin.
"Nope! Something Lutecia did. Don't worry, it doesn't do anything - it just gathers power. We'll be leaving tomorrow night, and that's to get the power we need." She stares at you suspiciously.
"Really? It won't hurt anyone, doesn't do anything bad?" You shake your head, and she relaxes fractionally. "And you're leaving tomorrow … so you guys aren't going to stay to fight Walpurgisnacht."
"No. Sorry, but our goals might be compromised if we stay, and Lutecia's getting worked up." She frowns, then shakes her head.
"Well, I guess that's that, then." She turns to leave as you nod.
"Tell Saya and Sayaka 'goodbye' from me, okay?" She waves an arm in response, and you sigh. With that done, you just need to inform Homura - except you turn back to see her sitting on one of the couches, reading some of her notes. You close the door.
"Leaving tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow night, yes. Thank you, Homura Akemi, for your hospitality in allowing us to stay here. It has been enlightening." She looks over at you.
"Yes … it has. For all of us. Goodbye, Flandre Scarlet." She turns back to her notes and you walk away. Nothing else for you to do, so you might as well take your own advice and get some rest. You almost think you can hear Homura say something as you close the door. It almost sounded like she was thanking you.
You set Lutecia down on the rooftop and look out over the city. She already apologized, you already told her it was fine, but she's still distant. But she looks and acts a lot better than she did yesterday, so it doesn't matter. You take note of the rail station, your old hideout. The entertainment and market district. The school. You're on one of the highest buildings in the city, so you can see everything. You turn away to see Lutecia breathing calmly, preparing herself, and when she looks at you, you smile. She returns it and takes one last breath.
"Are you ready, Flandre?"
"Yup! Just get it started and I'll go."
"I'll contact you when we're ready to go, in case Lulu can't." Lutecia nods, still distant, and starts the spell. Purple light, shining from her magic, interwoven with glittering scarlet streams from the spell itself - and after a moment, she stiffens, hands going to her chest. Agito rushes over to her. "Lulu!"
"What -? But, you're …?" She twitches and manages to look at you, and you shrug.
"It's a big city, and people fight and die and bleed all the time, and in a city this big, with all these people …." She nods, and Agito gives you a desperate look. "I'll be back. It'll probably get worse, so concentrate. Focus on the goal. Don't be afraid to cast off some pieces if it gives you relief." Without waiting to see their responses, you turn back, leap off the building, and head for the residential area, the air screaming as you catch up to sound itself.
You hit the first home and unleash your clones. Three people living here, two adults and a toddler. You ignore the child and have your clones toss the adults outside. The spell should still gather blood spilled inside buildings, but you'd rather make sure, and your clones attack them with abandon, slashing their arms, bellies, and faces. Not enough to kill them, but spilling copious amounts of blood. Then they fly off to the next house, while you find one of the phones and dial emergency number. You interrupt the operator with a giggle and hang up.
You hit three more houses before calling again. One man living alone, a family of five, a couple. In the fifth house, there are more than a dozen people, and someone attacks you with an automatic firearm. You and your clones go wild, tossing them out and tearing them apart. You feed on one, foolish as that is, and pick up the pace. You're being obvious, and people are seeing you, and it's only a matter of time and bloodshed before you kill someone unintentionally - and then you'll start killing more and more. You start laughing, and you start calling the emergency number before your clones have finished. It's not long before you hear the sirens of approaching vehicles.
You aren't sure how much later it is when you move to another area. You didn't devastate this one, but you hadn't intended to. You leave when the air itself feels saturated with terror and blood, but you're already falling into it, reveling in the thrill of spilling blood, and Headless is there with you, keeping you focused. You aren't trying to kill anymore, but you aren't as concerned with keeping people alive. And then it happens. Blood flows.
You see an old man, ancient and withered, but he has a blade, and he's waiting for you. Or maybe not for you, but for death, but you are the same. You land, walk up to him, and he strikes. Good speed, good power, for such an old man - but it's nowhere near enough, and you catch the blade and grin. He … accepts his death, doesn't resist as your clones tear him apart … and you change. Your clones explode into action, tearing residents out of their homes and butchering them in the streets. You simply watch the old man's blood seep into the ground. Why bother? He was old, he must have known fighting you would lead to his death. Why did he do it? If he wanted to die, why not turn his blade against himself, or put it to a worthy cause? You stand there for several minutes, trying to figure him out.
"Flandre! Flan! Hey, we're ready up here. Come back." Agito. You wait a few more moments, then shake yourself. It's time to go. You dismiss your clones, slip into a clean dress, and launch yourself toward the building. You see it before you land, the gleaming prism of bloody energy, over a dozen meters tall, and you rush to Lutecia, helping Agito support her. The rooftop is scorched and melted, and the sheer power of the contained energy is enough to cool your bloodlust. Lutecia makes a few strained gestures, whispers something you can't hear, and the energy peels back the fabric of reality, tearing a massive rift into the void. The magician collapses, and you lift her gently as Agito clings to your shoulder. You peek into the rift looking up, but you don't see any of your sister's chains. A shame - your adventure might have come to an early end, but you'd have been able to help Lutecia. You look down, wondering which portal you should aim for ….
What do you do?
[ ] H - It's an old-time town (and you're five centuries old, so that's saying something!). It looks kinda like someone blew it up already, though. The sun hasn't quite begun to set just yet, but it should soon.
[ ] K - It's dark and underground, but it looks like there's some kind of ruined city! Everything is thick and blocky.
[ ] T - A tiny room with a shiny ... door? It's split down the middle and is made of metal. It's an elevator with a metal door.
[ ] A long street with a dark shadow covering it.
[ ] What seems to be a gleaming blue bowl with a small house in the middle.
[ ] A city stretching as far as you can see, ever-changing but never breaking.
[ ] A darkness-shrouded area, with lots of walkways and dark mist everywhere.
[ ] A small, dark tunnel. Somewhere in front of you, it opens up to daylight, and you can see a large body of water beyond it.
DM Note: First thing: Votes will be open until Friday. Partially because it's a setting change, partially because it's Thanksgiving on Thursday, and I don't feel like having that be the main day for discussing things. Also, feel free to ask questions about things that have happened this arc; I'm not even going to try writing out a post detailing all the different things that could have happened. As for the potential locations ….
H has been mentioned a few times, although it hasn't been explicitly identified.
K and T have been correctly identified.
The Street has been mentioned, and there's been discussion on it.
The bowl has been mentioned once in-thread that I'm aware of.
Neither the city nor the place shrouded in darkness have been mentioned.
The tunnel has been mentioned and a little bit of discussion. And I will probably panic if we actually go here, in case that affects your voting any.
So yeah - questions, votes, discussion, etc.
