Huh. Well that was a thing.

Either the girl was expendable or she knew something the guards didn't want her sharing. Either that or the "guardians" are such mindless automatons they saw no problems with stabbing at us through an ally.

No way I'm sticking around in the creepy commune after our cover's blown. The guardians are probably waiting for queen bitch Kyoko or her equivalent to show up, and I'd like to avoid gambling on whether or not brainwashing works on us.

And a Sayaka lookalike with Kyoko features? Does Kyoko's power eventually turn her thralls into copies of herself or something? Would explain why they go around cloaked. Would be problematic if a new recruit saw her friends looking and acting less and less like themselves after they joined up.

Sounds like Kyouko has been indulging in Kazumi Magica Science because she sounds like a magically created artificial human blending Kyouko and Sayaka's powers.

Or they figured she had defenses up, given that there's an intruder in the area. Maybe they just didn't know where she was - not impossible, given that they're tracking Flan through some method other than sight. Without knowing who she was and what she was doing, it's hard to say.

Yes, it's definitely time for you to leave, and the best way out .... You head back to the guardian and grab the girl's corpse, sweeping the area for anything she may have dropped. They still don't move except to keep an eye on your general location. If they were youkai or something, this wouldn't bother you, but they're supposed to be human. Shaking off your unease, you set the corpse down, then dash toward the staircase, leaning down to grab the fallen spear and thrust it ahead of you. You drive the blade straight through the first girl and into the second girl's leg, then yank the spear back and toss it across the room. Before they can react - if they even have plans to - you grab the body and rush up the stairs.

"Uh ...." The six kids are staring at you - at the corpse you're holding, rather, because you're still invisible and it isn't - and several of them look just a touch from being sick. One of the girls who doesn't look sick steps forward and tries to reach out to the body in your arm. You could try to imitate the girl's voice, but really, what would be the point? You simply adjust your grip on the dead girl and dart past the group toward the back door and freedom. Once outside, you zigzag around a bit, watching for pursuit that never comes - you don't even get the watching feeling - and then head toward Mami's home. You don't actually go there, of course, but you do want to get out of Kazamino and into safer territory. Unfortunately, it's started raining in Mitakihara since you left, and you're forced to hole up sooner than you had hoped, closer to Kazamino than you like. Still, you're mostly dry, and you can get out easily ....

You dispel your invisibility and take out your flask, draining it to make up for both staying invisible for so long and the rain. Then you sit and wait for a few minutes, to let the energy settle properly. While you wait, you examine your companion. She looks around your apparent age, maybe a bit younger, with green hair and blue eyes. The only distinguishing features you can find are a silver ring on her left middle finger and a set of injuries on her forehead, just below her hairline. ... Well, that and all the blood, and her other recent injuries. You sigh as you clean her up as best you can - just what are you going to do with her? See if Kyouko or Mami can take over her body? Have Homura take her arm, because a living arm will probably work better than her current prosthetic? She didn't seem to appreciate your offer to snatch one of Kyouko's soldiers .... You shrug and get up, taking your parasol out and open it, then grab the girl and carry her with your left arm under her arms. Hopefully, anyone who sees you will think you're just two girls walking home together, because you're going to have to be even less subtle than you usually are if you have to fight soon.

You take a somewhat-meandering course through the city, keeping a careful watch for anyone following you, or anyone who seems to be getting too close to you. After a half-hour of walking, without detecting anyone, you take stock of your situation - you're past the major shopping areas, but you haven't reached the train station yet ... it might be worth it to simply rush there now, abandoning all pretense of circumspection. Then, while you're debating the idea with yourself - you'd get wet, after all, and you might be seen by someone else - a car drives just a little too close to the edge of the road, moving a little too fast, and the splash of the puddle it drives through soaks you. You freeze in shock, and then, somehow too fast for you to react, something drops through your parasol, tearing it apart, slashing your arm, and stealing the corpse from you! As the figure dashes away, and the rain begins to fall directly on you, you snarl and turn to track them, your left hand poised to break the creature foolish enough to destroy your parasol. Then a truck passes, too fast and too close, and you're completely soaked by the spray, and by the time you recover, they're gone.

You stand there in shock for almost a minute before you shake yourself back to awareness. You turn back, but your parasol is beyond repair, the fabric half torn to ribbons, the ribs and handle snapped. A glance down reveals that your dress isn't in much better condition, being made for lighter wear and not for being soaked ... but it, too, is basically worthless. You are ... in a bit, you'll be very upset, but right now, you're very calm. You stare at your hand for a moment, then shake yourself again, removing the last of the shock. You begin walking back to Homura's, but when you see that another car is speeding up and moving closer to the curb to pass slower-moving traffic, you decide that there's no point in maintaining such a strict level of secrecy. You fling one bullet dart at the nearest tire of the car, then run.

You slam the door to Homura's house open, startling Mami and Madoka, and their expressions turn worried when they see your condition. Mami starts to walk toward you, only to flinch back when you slam the door again, and you studiously ignore them and march up to your room. You take two of the frozen blood packs from the chest and hold them in either hand, then simply radiate power. Even when you're trying to limit it, the bag in your right hand explodes in a burst of steam and boiling blood, but the left one manages to defrost mostly safely, and you rip it open and upend it over your mouth. The near-boiling liquid splashes across your face and further ruins your dress, but you really don't care at this point. You clench your fists and force yourself to calm down, so you don't go and kill everyone in the building ... or the city.

"I trust your walk wasn't too eventful?" You spin and snarl at Homura, but she seems to be expecting it, because she doesn't flinch at all, and offers you a dark blue towel. "She's shaking, just a li-" Another snarl, directed inward, sends Headless back. "Will you be up for the meeting tonight?" Grudgingly, you take the towel from her and bury your face in it. After a moment, you pull it back and shrug.

"I'll make up my mind later," you say. You wonder what you should tell her about what you've seen - if you should tell her anything at all. You try to remember if she knows you can turn invisible .... "Shouldn't you get someone's permission before coming into their room?" She shrugs in return.

"You wouldn't answer no matter who knocked, and I've been waiting for you to wake up for ten minutes." You blink in surprise, then look at your left arm. You restored it at some point, but could there be a lingering effect? Or did you just lose track completely? You sigh, shake your head, and bury your face in the towel again, unmindful of the blood.

"... I need to sleep. Don't wake me for dinner." You pull the towel from your face again and fold it so you're holding a clean part, then start scrubbing your face. Homura frowns, but wisely obeys the dismissal. You wait for several minutes, to make sure no one is listening, then meticulously tear the towel apart, ripping it into perfect squares, and when you finish that, you do the same for the dress you're wearing. Then you pull the blankets off the bed, wrap them around you, and crawl under the bed. Even with the rain coming down, sleep comes quickly.

"Flandre?" You blink in awareness as the gloved hand cups your cheek. "Are you awake now?" You nod once, jerkily, and she calmly pulls herself back, out from under the bed. You're a little confused - she actually woke you up with her hand near your mouth? Is she stupid? She hesitates when you don't follow her out from under the bed. "It's ten-thirty, and Homura wanted to make sure everything was going forward."

Kyoko confirmed to be working for a Real Youkai. I'm assuming the girl was going to revive, or else our mysterious enemy wouldn't have intercepted us and inadvertently revealed its super speed. Whatever the hell that was really didn't want us talking to that girl, so all the reason to go back and get some answers out of the basement. Even better if we can find the same girl down there.

If the Youkai wanted to cooperate with us, it wouldn't be trying so hard to keep us from getting some straight answers. Why run? Couldn't it talk to us now instead of tonight? The meeting will either be a trap or an excuse for whatever it is to subject us to it's mind control power. The mind control must either take time or require some charge, up or else it would have zapped us right there. This thing has the home advantage and knows the battlefield at the meeting. Why hurry to a disadvantage? Time for a little cunning.

And the mysterious rescuer of poor Yuma (whom Flandre kidnaped) was no other but our residential psychotic magical girl Kirika Kure (she can slow time for her target which makes her dangerous even to Mami or Homura, and apparently Flandre too). This confirmed to me that our contact is Oriko - Kirika would work for no one other.

Maybe we should leave a note telling Remilia not to level the ENTIRE town if something bad happens?

"... And now for our top story of the morning - following the envelopment of the entire island in a mysterious red mist, almost the entire population of Honshu has mysteriously vanished, and every major city has been thoroughly destroyed. The only safe location appears to be the city of Mitakihara, which was found to be buried under the corpses of a previously-unknown white, cat-like creature, to a depth of nearly thirty meters in places. Etched into the neighboring city of Kazamino is the phrase "Walpurgisnacht is a punk." The residents of the city appear to have no recollection of the events of last night."

The Tower Meeting
[X] Go to the meeting.

You nod, then smile at Lutecia. "Yeah, I'm going. Hold on …" You pull out Loki and murmur softly to it, and the scintillating lights surround you. Once they die down, you deftly crawl out from under the bed and hop to your feet. Lutecia steps back, seemingly appraising your new outfit - did you ever show her Loki? - and you step past her and open the chest. Perhaps you're being a bit too spendthrift, but it's supposed to storm, and you'd rather have the power available immediately if something does go wrong. You pull out two more packs and begin heating one of them, carefully. Lutecia simply waits and watches as you drain the packs. You glance around the room - at some point, someone came in and cleaned up the mess you left.

"Agito will be staying here, to keep an eye on Miki-san, but the rest of us will be on one of the downtown buildings." She holds out a hand, palm up, and you lean closer, curious. A small dragonfly is resting there, not one of her usual bugs, but you can sense her magic at work. "It can watch and hear a little, and if anything happens to it, we can come to your assistance." You put your fingers over hers, and the insect crawls from her palm onto your hand. After a moment's thought, you lift your hat and move your hand to your hair, and the dragonfly creeps onto your head. You giggle, but Lutecia seems nervous. "I … did not tell them about my teleportation, nor about Garyuu, so it may take some time to reach you …." You give her a surprised look - is she nervous about telling you she isn't going to help you with all her tools, or is she embarrassed about not wanting to tell the others about her other skills? - then smile and give her a gentle hug.

"That's fine, Lutecia. Thank you for your help." You draw back, keeping your hands on her shoulders, and try to look comforting. She holds your gaze for a moment, and seems to be trying to smile, but then she drops her eyes. You hug her again, then begin leading her out of your room. "Come on, if they're getting nervous, we might as well not keep them waiting." She nods, and you make your way to the main room. Homura frowns at your new wardrobe, but Madoka and Mami seem interested.

"My, Scarlet-san, what a wonderful outfit. Where did you get it?"

"Hehe! It's a magic copy of the outfit my sister made for me. I don't like it when my clothes get ruined, so magic clothes like these are nice." You spin lightly, finishing with your pointer fingers pressing against your cheeks. "And it has a hat!" You sweep the cap off your head and bow - the dragonfly is safe, securely gripping your hair - and Mami grins and returns the gesture.

"Yes, well, we should probably get moving soon, if we want to get set up in time for the meeting." Homura is still her normal self, calm and almost-unflappable. You almost try to shake her, do something to break her self-control … but there wouldn't be a point, and it would be needlessly antagonizing. Yes, better to keep her on your side. You nod energetically.

"Yeah! Come on, come on! Hehehe!" You chivvy everyone out the door, waving goodbye to a dejected Agito when you see her at an upstairs window. After a moment, she returns the wave. It rains irregularly and lightly as you all walk through the night-shrouded city, and you take a few moments away from the group to experiment. The projected clothing seems to be keeping the worst effects of the rain away from you, and you don't notice any significantly higher drain on your energy - but you also aren't in any particularly heavy downpours for any length of time, so it's hard to say if you're being affected by the rain. Still, you make a note to yourself to acquire another parasol or three when you get more clothes.

You don't walk with the group, though you do keep watch over them. Taking advantage of your greater speed, you move around them, alert for threats and other problems that would slow them down. As you move from rooftop to rooftop to streets and back, you keep an eye on them, as well. They don't seem to be talking much, and Mami and Madoka seem rather crestfallen. Lutecia seems to be tracking you already, going by the directions she keeps looking. You consider walking with them and using your clones to run interference, but then someone would probably ask you what happened on your walk, and since just thinking about it makes you want to rip someone in half … probably not a good idea to talk about it. Still, you make reasonably good time to the building from which the others will watch and wait, and you rejoin them, grinning expectantly, as they head inside to the elevator. Homura takes out several keys, which makes you wonder what she's used this building for in the past, but only some of them see use before the door to the roof opens, a peal of thunder dramatically underscoring the moment. Homura, Madoka, and Mami all transform, and Homura pulls out a long, heavy rifle and several sets of glasses for the others.

"Straight-line from here to the Tower is a little over a kilometer, and the rifles I have with that range fire relatively slow projectiles. It'll take a second for the bullet to hit, so don't get between me and any targets if you can help it. Or behind them, for that matter." She begins setting up the rifle a little behind the edge of the roof, pulling a table out of nowhere to rest it on. Madoka moves over to help while Mami shakes her head and turns to you.

"Well, then, Scarlet-san, we'll be waiting here. With luck, there won't be any fighting, but we'll be there as soon as we can if you need us. Um, Alpine-san, did you …?" Lutecia nods and you lift your cap to reveal the dragonfly. "Ah, good. If something does happen, we'll be able to track you down, then." She looks up at the sky and frowns, then everyone is distracted by a stroke of lightning to the south. After a couple seconds, you hear the rumble of thunder. You scowl at the sky. "Well, I guess it will be raining, after all. Ah, do you need an umbrella, Scarlet-san?" Still scowling, you shake your head.

"No, I'll be fine. Thank you for the offer," you reply, managing to smile in appreciation. You look out across the river at the Tower for a moment, then shake your head. "I'll get going, I guess. Take care, okay?" You hop up onto the ledge, quickly check to make sure no one is nearby, and drop off before anyone can stop you. Glancing up, you see Madoka and Mami staring in shock, and you wave before trotting down the street toward the bridge. You move fairly slowly, staying on the street but swirling and twirling, nearly dancing as you watch as much as you can. Once you reach the bridge, you abandon your cavorting and simply dash straight across. On the Kazamino side, with its fewer and dimmer lights, you move cautiously, swaying and drifting from shadow to deeper darkness and back. You aren't so much trying to avoid detection as you're trying to find any hidden watchers that might be lurking. You don't find any, nor do you get the feeling of watching, but the sense of this being a youkai's territory is stronger, and it feels almost restless. Still, it's nothing solid, and Homura did say that Kyouko had illusions and enchantments, so maybe she's doing something to make it safer for her troops to operate? Make the Witches that appear less aggressive by making them think a stronger one is here … or, your eyes darkening with memory, perhaps she actually has a stronger Witch under her control. That would explain things pretty well.

You ponder the idea as you close in on the Tower. There isn't enough time for you to do a thorough check of the far sides of the Tower, not if you also want to scour the Tower and arrive early, so you simply clamber up to the first level and look out, getting an abstract feel for where things could hide. You mark them in your head, then begin climbing the Tower, searching each level and landing for oddities. You don't find anything, and they could simply do something while you're waiting, but those by necessity would be weaker than something that's had time to be ready. You finally reach the observation deck where you first fought Kyouko's girls. Of course, the bodies are gone, as is any indication that an altercation took place, but the thought makes you smile, and after scouting the deck and the spire, you perch on the roof and wait. The light rainfall is irritating, but if you focus just right, you can just make out Madoka and Mami without having to look through the viewing glasses. You give them a small wave, then take out Laevateinn. You don't plan on fighting, but you're certainly planning for fighting.

It only takes a few minutes for you to hear footsteps in the room below you, and you carefully swing yourself over the edge, landing softly on the outer railing before hopping to the floor. The two girls are prepared for combat, much as you are, but you are rather surprised to see Sayaka - and even more surprised to note that her eyes are not marked by the red glow that most of Kyouko's girls have. The dragonfly scuttles out from under your cap as you cross into the closed-off area, creeping through your hair to settle between your ponytail and your cap, safe enough from harm yet able to see what's in front of you. You grin inwardly at Lutecia's cleverness, even as you give Sayaka and her companion a slightly-interested look. The other girl … you have to think for a moment, but you recognize her as the dark-haired girl who was with the pale-haired girl the first time you were here, and since Homura identified them as Kirika and Oriko, this must be Kirika. You aren't sure what purpose the eyepatch serves, but you have to wonder at the rest of her outfit, as it looks like she tried to make a maid's uniform and forgot the skirt. You nod your head, then focus on Sayaka as she steps forward and Kirika steps back.

"Hm, Sayaka Miki and … Kirika? I'm sorry, Homura didn't give me your last name. I'm Flandre Scarlet." You give them a brief curtsy before tilting your head fractionally, waiting expectantly. Sayaka shakes her head.

"Rather a bit more than we'd thought you'd know, actually … well, I guess we can skip the introductions, then. Kirika is Kirika," she glances at the black-clothed girl and shrugs before turning back to you, "and she doesn't talk that much. Anyway … uh, I guess we asked you to meet us here because we could use your help." She looks at the floor, frowning, and you sit against one of the window panes.

"You and Kirika, or Kyouko and Oriko?" Sayaka's frown deepens, but when you say the last name, Kirika glares and starts to drop into a crouch before taking a deep breath and calming down. She still glares at you, though … and something about her seems strange, but you can't quite place it. You shake your head and turn back to Sayaka. "Oh, and your mother is fine. I helped her out, and she wants to know if you really believe you're doing the right thing, and it's because you want to and not because you're being made to. And I think she wants you to come home soon … well, I guess it has been a while since you were last in Mitakihara, right?" You grin at her as you finish, but you're not sure how much of an effect you got, since she looked like a pole-axed ox before you finished. More importantly, you got another rise out of Kirika - she starts to drop into the crouch again, and her arms flex out and down, as if she were about to toss spoiling knives at you. Then Sayaka recovers.

"Kirika?" She sounds actually angry about it as she half-turns to look at her companion, and the dark-haired girl straightens and clears her expression, shrugging eloquently in response to the question. Sayaka turns back to you, and you catch Kirika glower at you again. "What happened?"

"She was bothering some people - Homura said they were Yakuza, or something - and they bothered me when I came by, so I killed them and took Saya to Homura's place. She's fine now, but she tried to sneak out a couple days ago to keep looking for you.." Sayaka stares at you for a moment, then lets out her breath and runs her hand through her hair.

"… Well, thanks for passing on the message. But I can deal with that later. As for your question … Kyouko and Oriko are the initiators of the message, but I think it's Kyouko that actually wants the help …." She frowns for a moment, then shrugs. "Maybe it's just because I can never figure out what Oriko's doing or what her plan is. Really, we're just here to take you to Kyouko's Church." You laugh.

"Really? You're not here to fight me?" You gesture with your gift, and Sayaka shakes her head.

"No, we're not. If it comes down to a fight, I'm supposed to run and Kirika's supposed to slow you down. Really, though, even Kirika's not supposed to be here - originally, Oriko wanted to send Yuma, but someone attacked her earlier, and she's still recovering." You give her a blank look, and she sighs. "Well, you'll probably see her at the church, but Yuma's a cute little kid, a bit younger than you. She's … I don't know, Oriko's page, I guess? She usually comes if there's something they want us to see, and after a few meetings Kyouko insisted she start taking lessons, too, so she comes around pretty often." She shakes her head again, then looks at you. "Anyway, Kyouko wants to talk to you at the Church. I don't know what she wants to talk to you about, but … well, I know a bit about the situation, but I don't know any of the specifics, so I can't really tell you more than that. Do you want to go?"

You stand up and look at the two girls in turn. Something about Kirika still bothers you, but you ignore it for now. More frustratingly, this meeting was just a set-up. Kyouko wants to talk to you, at her church, and that means you'll be heading away from the others … you're certain you'll be fine, but if you go they'll probably yell at you for leaving without signaling them, and if you don't go they'll yell at you for wasting everyone's time, and it's still raining so Lutecia is probably getting wet … and you'll be deeper in enemy territory in the rain. Hmm …. You tap your gift against the floor.

What do you do?

[ ] Go back to Mitakihara.
- [ ] Peacefully.
- [ ] With Sayaka.
- [ ] With Sayaka, and making sure to kill Kirika.

[ ] Continue on to the meeting with Kyouko.
- Do you have any questions for Sayaka?
- Do you have any questions for Kyouko?

Well that's fishy as all get out.

We can probably come up with an option that requests for Kyouko to meet us somewhere on neutral ground, or to come out and find us herself if she really wants help.

After all, Flandre's a descendant of the house of Scarlet, sister to the Scarlet Devil herself. If someone desires her assistance, why should she go to them to hear them out?

I too think we should grill Sayaka and Kirika before we even consider going anywhere with them. We come here in good faith to meet and the leader of this group camt be bothered to show up. Instead we've got a yandere timestop maid with a hair trigger wanting to kill us. They expect us to go into the heart of the enemy's power before sharing any details with us without showing us respect or any talk of reward.

You know if big sister was treated like this she'd be raising all sorts of hell right now.

If possible I'd like to goad Kirika into taking a shot at us in at way that makes it clear she initiated hostilities. Anything to drive at wedge between Sayaka, the shady politician, and Kyoko's cult.

Well that's fishy as all get out.
Sayaka: Fine ... I understand .... *cries and runs out of the story*

RE: Bad Faith Meeting and being treated as a lower-status entity -
The 'take Sayaka back (Killing Kirika Optional)' choice is Flan's sort-of default response to that. Flan can choose to operate under certain assumptions if she wants to (like normal people), and choosing that would set her to:

* They requested a meeting at a time I'm not comfortable (rain);
* These people are obviously not being particularly trustworthy (Sayaka's reactions indicate that she expected her mother to be safeguarded, and that expectation was violated; additionally, she is unaware that Yuma's injuries were suffered in a Friendly Fire Incident);
* Sayaka is of at least moderate importance (if the meeting turns hostile, she is to escape instead of fight);
* Therefore, these people are not trustworthy and are merely leading me on, so if I want to accomplish something, I need to take something they apparently want - Sayaka. With her lieutenant gone, Kyouko will be forced to meet me where I choose.
(* Killing Kirika will remove Oriko's lieutenant, so even if they're part of the same group instead of simply working together, all lieutenants will be dealt with, leaving only Captains to continue negotiations.)

Of course, whether things would actually go off as Flan assumes they will is another story. But yes, if you want to craft a write-in, I've no objections.

Also, Saturday's update will probably be delayed, possibly to some time on Sunday.

Maybe something like...

[x] Hold on just a second.
-[x] Are they seriously asking you to go to their leader because she needs YOUR help?
-[x] No deal, unless Kyouko is willing to come here and speak to us personally.
-[x] Honestly, it's just plain rude to lure a girl out here in the rain just to tell her she has to go somewhere else entirely to have a chat with someone she doesn't even really know.
-[x] If they agree to your terms, Sayaka must be the one to get Kyoko.
-[x] If the answer is no, signal the group and get into the air.

Edit: Seems legit.

-[x] Honestly, it's just plain rude to lure a girl out here in the rain just to tell her she has to go somewhere else entirely to have a chat with someone she doesn't even really know.

-[x] If they agree to your terms, Sayaka must be the one to get Kyoko.

I like the general idea, but it needs refinement.

I feel this will be the best chance in this world to get Sayaka back from Kazamino. We've planted a seed of doubt between her and Kyoko, from what EJ has shared with us, Sayaka's feels tricked and is probably going to confront Kyoko about it back at the church. Last two times Sayaka charged off and got in a confrontation, first time she died for us and the second she got tricked into working for these goons. What happens when she shows disloyalty to the cause in the enemy stronghold when we're not there?

And Kirika is psycho loyal. If something goes down and it looks like Sayaka is going to get captured/defect, I wouldn't put it past her to kill Sayaka herself to keep her quiet. We need to keep her thinking that won't happen until we can separate them or get reinforcements and keep her pinned down.

We've got an extra day to plan so I think we can work this of anyone has other ideas.

Seems about right yeah. Being this cooperative isn't easy on Flan, so we need to balance it out a bit or we're going to be doing some smashying at this rate.
