[X] Go out with the group.
- [X] Openly.
"Yeah, I remember," you say, staring at Homura. "Hmm ... you remember when I was here before, right?" She snorts.
"How could I forget?"
"You said something about knowing where the good fights were, and offered to tell me about them." She nods slightly, eyes narrowed. "If you still remember where they are, and if they're too much for you to handle ... I might be willing to help you out," you finish, grinning.
"I remember you saying something about not wanting to do that," she says, and you shrug.
"I wasn't a guest at your home before, and I wasn't disrupting your life. I'm not an inhospitable barbarian; besides, it will be easier to have fun if I don't have to look for fights on my own." You place the blanket on the table and hop over it, landing softly on the floor. "Speaking of that, you need to get better tea."
"Yes, it was one of the things Agito made sure we got while shopping." You raise an eyebrow at the girl, but she just shrugs as she stands up and walks to the stairs. "She was ... incensed over the state of my kitchen, and made me go shopping with her. Food, mainly." You nod absently, and you follow her in silence as you head to the large, empty room. It's quite different now, with lots of images on one wall. Lutecia is studying them, but Agito flies over when you enter.
"Um, I just wanted to ... uh, apologize. For laughing at you this morning." She doesn't sound particularly sincere, and she looks surly; you're pretty sure Lutecia made her, and she wouldn't have done it otherwise, but you smile and curtsy all the same.
"Of course, Agito, think nothing of it." Then you grin mischievously, ruffle her hair, and stick your tongue out at her when she glares at you. Her face goes from angry to confused so quickly that you have to giggle, and she looks away with a huff. Before you can see what Lutecia is looking at, however, there's a knock on the door, and Homura goes to answer it. After a moment, Mami and Madoka enter ... along with a strange white creature that Madoka carries. Lutecia turns away from the wall and walks over to the couches, and Agito joins her. You scurry over to Madoka and stare curiously at the creature.
"Oh, Flandre, don't you remember Kyubey?" She looks uncertainly at you and Homura, and the creature tilts its head as it stares at you. You stare at it - then you poke it in the forehead, eliciting a yelp of surprise from Madoka. You shrug.
"I've seen one before, but I didn't know what it was called. Should I know what it is?" You see Homura bring her hand to her face, and Mami frowns as Madoka gasps.
"Ah! But ... aren't you a ... magical girl?" You shrug again.
"I don't think so. But who knows? Maybe someone made a wish, and that's why I am the way I am!" You giggle and pat her head, and she seems to relax. Kyubey hops down and trots over to Lutecia as Mami clears her throat.
"Er, anyway, Akemi-san was going to go on a patrol with us for a while. We won't be gone too long," she says, and Lutecia nods, looking down at Kyubey while Agito tries to keep an eye on everyone.
"Okay! I'm coming, too!" Your declaration catches them off-guard. You pout and do your best to look pitiable; Homura sighs quietly and turns away. "You aren't going to say I can't come, are you?" After a moment, Mami smiles and shakes her head.
"Alright, if you want to come ... hm, and you, Alpine-san? Or will you stay here?"
"I will wait here; there are some things I have to start working on soon," she says, and you wave at her. She raises a hand in farewell, and you slip outside into the fresh night air. There's no conversation for the first few blocks; you can sense that Mami and Madoka are still getting themselves worked into a ready state, and Homura is simply quiet.
"... Ah, Scarlet-san ... you said you aren't a magical girl?" You nod, looking around the streets. "Have you ever fought a Witch before?"
"Hmm ... yeah. Two or three times, I think. They weren't that hard." Of course, that particular one doesn't count; you weren't fighting it for most of the fight, after all. Madoka looks over nervously.
"Have you been at this long? I'm still new, but Mami-senpai says I'm learning quickly. Maybe we could help each other out?" You look over at her; you hadn't realized she was able to fight already. Maybe they're just really good at concealing how much power they have ...? Homura's cough interrupts your thoughts, and Madoka looks over at her. "Homura-chan?"
"Flandre is ... very skilled. And from what I remember, she's more of a hand-to-hand fighter. Your strengths lie in ranged attacks, so you would be better served by learning from Mami." You scowl a bit, then smile as Madoka frowns unhappily. Mami pats her on the shoulder.
"Now, now. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps we could learn from each other, if she stays here long enough." Madoka nods, but you see Homura's expression darken at the suggestion. If she dislikes you so much, why did she offer to let you stay at her place? "In fact, Scarlet-san - have you ever tried to track a Witch?" You try to remember.
"Mmm ... no, I don't think so. I can see the rifts that lead into their hidden worlds, but I can't use magic, so I have to look for them the hard way." Mami nods.
"It does take time to improve one's ability to locate Witches; I still find it easier to locate a Familiar and then find the parent Witch after destroying the Familiar. Of course, because Witches tend to hide around certain places, I do focus my searches there - as you say, if you can find the opening to the Barrier, you can find the Witch."
Nearly two hours later, however, you still haven't found anything interesting. Mami did identify some locations where Witches are likely to appear, and Homura pointed out a few more ... but you didn't find any Witches, Familiars, or even humans dumb enough to irritate you. How aggravating.
"Ah! Sayaka-chan!" Madoka suddenly runs off down an alley, and after a moment's hesitation, Homura and Mami follow her. You frown; you had looked down that alley just before she did, and you didn't see anything .... Then you grin and sprint ahead. The alley opens up into the street, so all you need to do is cut off the opening .... You slow down to a more human speed as you turn into the alley, and hurry down it. You get two-thirds of the way through it when Madoka skitters around the corner, limbs flailing, and you slam to a halt yourself. "Did ... did you see her?" Madoka stares at you hopefully as she pants, and slumps to the ground when you shake your head. You keep looking around, but Mami sighs as she comes into view.
"It's alright, Kaname-san. I think you're just tired; you haven't been getting as much sleep as you're used to, after all. Let's get you home and call it a night, okay?" You shrug; Homura keeps looking around, as though she suspects something is still around, but Madoka nods glumly.
"I was sure I saw her ...."
