Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

That was rough, but we made it.

[X] I'm Not Afraid of Aberrations! (That's BS, I totally am...)
-[X] Pepper will keep an eye out for guards and other Xulgath, using his tiny size and Stealth to remain unseen in the hallways outside the kitchen while carefully remaining within the 100 foot limit from Mina.
-[X] Cob secures and gags the unconscious cook then takes a quick look around for any loot, especially anything the Alchemist was carrying that might have survived his transformation.
-[X] Mina quickly uses her Healing Hex on Gorok and Kori. Kori casts Cure Light Wounds on Gorok twice and once on himself. After being healed, if Gorok isn't restored to at least 20 HP, he'll drink a Potion of Cure Light Wounds. After using her Healing Hex, Mina will cast Detect Magic to scan the room for magical auras.
-[X] Once everyone is back on their feet and ready, we'll retreat back into the tunnel leading to the slain Death Worm's midden so that Mina can use her Healing Hex on our prisoner so we can attempt to interrogate them. Gorok will try to remove any signs of a struggle, at least one where we were present, and we'll close the kitchen door behind us to hopefully delay the discovery of our actions for a short time. If the door can be locked, Cob will try to jam it so that it cannot be easily opened, even with a key.

@DragonParadox, any chance we'll be leveling up before we complete this mission?

Also, I remembered we got some loot a while back that didn't end up on the character sheets or in the inventory page. Specifically, it was some scrolls and potions. I went back and looked, and we voted for them to be distributed among the party:

Kori: Scroll of Bless, Scroll of Detect Evil x2
Mina: Scroll of Light, Scroll of Magic Weapon, Scroll of Remove Sickness, Scroll of Shield, Scroll of Shocking Grasp
Cob: Potion of Cure Light Wounds x1, Potion of Resistance
Gorok: Potion of Cure Light Wounds x2

That was rough, but we made it.

Maybe have Gorok erase our tracks and make it so that everything here seems a magical accident?

We are under the effects of Pass Without Trace. They probably won't be able to track us to the exterior.

I think it would best to keep leveling to the end of missions so there isn't a sudden jump in skills, abilities and spells, that tends to hurt immersion in my opinion

I added something to that effect, but there's only so much you can do to coverup these kind of shenanigans.

A good thing is that, being the Stealth Party, we are more suited to ambush whoever comes after us than the opposite.

Also we have not used the bottled fire elemental yet. And that is a hell of a trump card

Well, it's workable.

Not sure we can come back here the same way, but pressing forward with no information and down most of our healing is not very appealing either.

@DragonParadox , I have an off-top question. Well, it could be relevant in ASWAH, not sure about current quest.

How are you handle with a fact that in different codex/redactions the same gods could be quite different?

Hmm... how do you mean? Like the fact that gods are not the same in different retelings? I pick what works best for the story I me dealing with at the time

Update tomorrow, it would be today but it is once more so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk outside, not really a fit state to write in.

Arc 2 Post 26: Swift Egress
Swift Egress

Season of Rushing Waters

As the rush of battle fades and Mina begins to lend her magic to your aid two things become apparent, firstly that you are a lot more hurt than you had assumed to judge by how little the spear wound heals and secondly that healing, even by sorcery can be surprisingly uncomfortable. Things that really shouldn't move around shift in your innards, presumably, hopefully back to their natural place

"I'm going to have to stay... a bit further back... I guess," you try for a smile, glad there isn't anything reflective to see the result in here.

Mina gives you a worried look, but she agrees with your judgement that it's best to save all your spells of good health for Gorok. Her song barely gets him to stir, but as the shadows weave themselves into his flesh and then become it he stumbles to his feet.

You heal 4 Damage -> now at 7/18
Gorok Heals 21 Damage -> now at 20/23

"Report?" He falls back into the sharp short speech common of his people, though by now both you and Mina are used to it and Cob... well it will take a lot more than that to offend Cob. Ears perked and swiveling with good cheer at the sight of the iruxi's healing the goblin looks to be only constrained from clapping by the realization that there are enemies near.

"We should take that one..." you point at the unconscious cook. "Make it look like some kind of magical accident."

"We are still hidden by spell?" Gorok asks Mina. At her quick nod he looks around the bodies. "All but twist-spawn killed with fang and claw. They might seek beasts not foes if given reason. "

He starts up turning baskets of food, rock shrooms rolling, uncooked glass-root shattering, frothy brackish beer spilling out in waves. Cob does not need any more encouragement to start filling his pack and pockets with meat and eggs, licking clean bowls of lard and hanging a row of sausages around his neck like the trophy of victory it is.

Alas for him duty calls, the prisoner has to be secured so you can get out of here at a moment's notice.

Just as you are considering if a spot of fire might help with the vandalism at hand Pepper bolts into view with the news you had been expecting. "They are trying to break down the leftmost door. I don't think the bar will hold long."

Even as the four of you start to rush towards the corridor, half-belligerent-half worried slurk croaking in your ears Mina looks down into the... mess that had been the head cook... no he had to have been more than that. She is braver than you to reach into that mess and pull out a collection of pouches, quivers and clasps meant for varied and esoteric purposes.

Mina Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 +9 = 20 (Success)

There is no time to explain though as you rush out of the room and back the way you had come to hide in the midden. Heart hammering in your chest, trying not to breathe in too deeply of the reek you wait, the soft heat-glow of your companion's hands and faces a comfort in the dark. Though you can hear the sounds of banging, searching, hissing arguments there is no sign of feet coming this way.

Mina's voice is barely a whisper as he hands you treasure she had taken from the beast: "I think this is a Belt of Swift hand, a doctor I knew at the temple had one of these, it makes everything you hang on it weightless and you can summon them to hand in an emergency. Here, you use them more than I do."

"Is it safe?" you cannot help but asking.

"Near as I can tell, it is just a minor conjuration, should work on bolts potions and maybe that dagger, but nothing bigger."

It could have been you lying dead on that befouled floor, you know and the difference between life and death is in the blink of an eye. That does not, as perhaps it reasonably should lead you to reconsider the life of a hireblade, but instead take the dubious trinket pulled out from tainted flesh.

After yet a while longer which seems far longer than you know it to be counting heartbeats the sounds from the warren fade, enough that you can consider waking your prisoner, though that does beg the questions to ask.

[] Ask about the leader of the tribe, his powers, his weaknesses, where he might be found

[] Ask if anyone had noticed the missing shaman and how they reacted. Are the spirits still favorable to the tribe, or is there unrest

[] Ask who the cook was and that he might have been meddling in

[] Write in (A single subject; there is no time for a longer interrogation)

OOC: There were no rolls for Pepper since the xulgath were literally banging on the doors to get past the bars. He couldn't really miss that.

The plan was for Kori to also cast Cure Light Wounds on himself once after Mina used her Healing Hex on him. That only leaves him with 2 spell slots remaining, but that's better than being at 7 HP.

If he gets a poor result on his CLW roll, it might even be worth using one of our 3 CLW potions to restore a bit more HP.

The image of Cob running from the crime scene with a string of sausages hanging around his neck pretty much perfectly sums up my idea of Goblin looting. Priorities, you know? :V

I like the re-fluff of the belt, BTW. Makes it generally more useful for everyone that isn't a gunslinger. Speaking of firearms, are they going to be a thing in this setting? It's not that they're overly powerful in Pathfinder, they actually kind of suck, I'm just not a huge fan of them in fantasy settings.

This seems most immediately important, IMO. Hopefully they'll have some relevant information for us.

Would be nice to know, but I'm not really sure how knowing it would help us much at this point.

I'm scared that we'll find out the Alchemist and cooks were brewing up something to poison the new leader of the tribe and his supporters, and we ruined their plan. Better to remain ignorant in this case, since there's nothing we can do about it now.

I am inclined to say yes, though it is rare since riffling is relatively new so it's smoothbores or literally hammering the bullet down the barrel to get a tight fit and the increase in range and accuracy. You are unlikely to encounter them in most of the inner sea area.

We will see if you get near the mana wastes.

I mean that in first redaction Hecate is Lawful Evil and works with devils, at the second she continues her work but becomes a Chatic Evil (How?! :o ), at the third she is a Neutral Evil goddes of Olympic pantheon and in 3,5 she resumes her dealings with Hell.
I guess that you had the same problems with Tiamat :V

Pick whichever one you prefer, personally I would call Hecate NE, she does not seem to be a proponent of either order or Chaos but whatever helps her get ahead

What about the healing question?

Oops, missed that, I'll add it in the next update.
