Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

It already reverted back into it's statuette form and is now sitting on the ship's deck. We just need to loot it.

I count it already looted. I say summon, send to murder someone who does not see us, if it is defeated we retrieve it with our shadow and start again, from a distance, or without breaking invisibility even

Just what Gorok's Company needs for a mascot, an eldritch flying manta from the sunless ocean depths. The kids will love it :V
Well OK, some kids would actually love it, but they are not the ones paying your bills

What's the duration and activation limit on the figurine?
We could use it for all sorts of interesting things if it lasts long enough or can be activated semi-frequently.

And aerial Goblin shenanigans, of course. :p

Kori does not know, he did just spot the thing sliding across the deck.

It is going to take a day or so of pocking to figure out the commands even with his success on the spellcraft roll. It's not like a rogue using UMD where they shake the Dread Staff of the Tyrant litch over their heads, spit on it twice and throw some salt on it and now they can use it against its former master. :V

Hopefully it's not one of the figurine types with limited charges.

Cob would be sad!

Kori, wrapped in shadows and riding a giant flying manta ray

I swear, we need points in intimidate, dammit. We are really cool as we are.

[X] Explain that the raiders didn't seem bent on wholesale slaughter from what we were able to observe in the moments we had before being forced to act, but instead seemed more interested in taking live captives. One can only imagine the horrors awaiting any who met that fate...

Here is a detailed map of Golarion
Interesting...
Googling about Molthune
Can not see much resemblance with USSR. After looking this map I even wanted to visit Molthune, but now I doubt that it worth it.

you also need to explain how on earth it has kept the basket case realm from being invaded by its neighbors, you know the thing that historically happened to revolutions that did not manage to produce stable governments. That is the harder part of explaining Galt in my opinion.
Yeah, "only those revolution is worth something which can defend itself" (C). Even those revolutions that eventually produced stable government faced with intervention - Russia, Cuba...

Crap, I didn't remember her Evil Eye Hex was a Mind-Affecting effect.

Would have gone for an Ear-Piercing Scream spell instead of I hadn't failed my Knowledge check. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.
Yeah, I also failed that check, as well as all others.
By the way, it means that Kori can not use his Detect Thought ability.

Arc 4 Post 20: Splitting the Take
Splitting the Take

13th of Rova 4707 A.R. (Absalom Reckoning)

"They looked to be after live captives more than loot or wholesale slaughter," you settle on, trying not to look at the bodies strewn across the deck as Mina and surprisingly Menkir move to offer what aid they can to those still breathing. The latter's magic comes with a slow sonorous chant, sung in time with rhythmic clapping of his hands. A dancer, no that isn't the right name for it, a bard, that's it. You recall it because the word does not sound like the 'Common Tongue', but rather elvish-speak.

"Live captives, eh?" the captain barks. "And how do you imagine they were going to take those?"

In response, Gorok points at a pile of the living masks squirming on the deck, which promptly gets one of them killed by one of the newly arrived crewmen.

"Hey, don't kill glab-gror!" Cob shouts. The goblin word that he had fallen back on in his haste translates as something like 'useful beast' as opposed to zig-gror, 'tribe beast', the title which most goblins reserve for particularly intelligent or blessed creatures, which he uses for Warty.

"Foolish to destroy prize," Gorok agrees, though if anything that inflames the humans more.

"You want us to keep the monsters alive?!" one shouts.

"Where's the big one?" Another exclaims.

You try to direct Cob's attention to the tinny statuette, it looks valuable, but he's neck deep in an argument over the virtues of the living masks. It is a good thing the sailors do not speak goblin.

Akorian Linguistics: 1d20+4 = 5 (Critical Failure)

"Quiet, quiet on deck!" the captain roars as you take the chance to recover the statuette yourself, last of your Second Circle spells or no. You whisper the spell and hide the motions of your hands in your cloak, and under that cloak passes the shadow that holds the tiny black sea beast, thankfully unseen by any other.

Akorian Bluff vs Menkir Spellcraft: 27 vs 15

Gained Figurine of Wondrous Power ???

"Captain," the quartermaster speaks up after a moment's strained silence, broken only by the sloshing of the waves and the by now familiar creak of the ship. "I've never seen anything like these nor heard 'em told in all the mortal realms. They must have had something special in mind." His eyes dart to your shadow then up to your face, to the silver Azlanti band you wear. No doubt the captain will be receiving a report that is not for your ears, nor for those of your companions, you think grimly.

Menkir Knowledge Roll: ???
Menkir Bluff vs Akorian Sense Motive: 24 vs 31 (Critical Success)

"Well we can ask our prisoner, assuming he speaks some kind of civilized tongue. In the meantime, toss the raiders bodies back to their friends so they can see what you get for tangling with the Andoran Navy, and get those filthy things off my ship before they scuttle their filthy tentacles into our brains while we sleep," Captain Caulker orders, revulsion mixing with anger in his voice as he considers the faces of his dead crew.

Cob rounds on him, as uncowed by the man's title as he is by his height.

"Maybe we can just claim them as our cut of the loot from the attackers," Mina whispers quickly as she comes up behind Gorok. For his part the iruxi looks like he thinks it a fair deal, for Cob's sake if nothing else, though you are not sure what you are going to do with eight living masks. Judging from present reactions they'd probably be hard to sell off in Augustana.

What do you do?

[] Tell Cob that the masks will be fine if you just throw them overboard, it might even be true (Bluff DC 15)

[] Say nothing claim the masks, in addition to the statuette you had already grabbed, as your cut of the loot from the attackers

[] Write in

OOC: I thought about making it a vote if you should snatch the manta statuette, but realistically, by the mores of Kori's society, just grabbing the thing is the most reasonable reaction. If the sailors wanted to take it, they should have had better eyes.

Might as well take them, we already napped the real prize after all, rather than risk trying to convince Cob.

Still though, not sure how we are supposed to take care of the things, let alone use them as their intended function to, I assume, allow one to breath underwater.

Cob certainly gets easily attached to weird creatures it seems.

...I didn't even think it was up to debate. Perhaps we need to ingrain these type of habits some more. :p

Our kill, our steal!

By the way, is Cob's reaction due to practicality, or is it for cultural reasons? At first I thought he wanted the masks for their usability; we are in the middle of the sea, after all, and I'll take a weird tentacle fish over drowning, but then we'd hardly need more than 4 or 5 of them. I doubt sailors would object if we framed it as a safety measure on the seas, though they might resent the thought of us being the only ones who have it. But at least it wouldn't look like keeping dangerous monsters on deck just because we like how they jiggle.

Cob seems to have a soft spot for animals, even his reaction to dogs and horses is toned down to mere dislike from the murderous rage of most other goblins (and I do not think I have to mention his friendship with Warty) hence why he would have to be convinced they would do fine if thrown in the sea.

The masks give water breathing, yes? Can you see anything out of them? If not, can you do something about it?

I am thinking about a scene where Akorian puts on a mask to explain what it does. Maybe it'd calm down the tempers. Would be pretty funny if something unexpected happened, though.

Yes, but do they allow us to breathe under water? I refer to this bit:
The ones Mina's web hadn't snared are trying to get their trapped fellows out. Something is squirming on the deck beside them, for a moment you think one of the assailants had carried a live fish aboard for some mad reason, but then you realize it is not like any fish you had ever seen, flat and fin-like, yes, but almost translucent and where its eyes should have been nothing but a pair of slits. A living breathing aid, like something out of a drow flesh-garden, though no drow had made these, you know instinctively. They were trying to drag prisoners down with them... maybe just the one.
We took one look at it, and thought 'they are taking live captures'. Kinda hard to take them underwater and keep them alive. So I figure they must give water breathing to surface dwellers, no?

Would it be helpful to the discussion at hand to demonstrate their use to the sailors? I think they just see a monster fish and see no purpose in keeping them.

That too, they are water breathing masks which they had planned to take live captives with that might also help against gas attacks.

That isn't a rule of the people of the Underdark in general? Right after 'don't get eaten?'"

Cob the animal lover. Surprised he isn't a ranger himself.

Besides frogs/toads, what animals does he like best? Does he like worgs?

Well, here goes nothing.

[x] Put the living mask on, demonstrate its use as a breathing aid. Sure it may look... strange, but a sailor might understand it's better than drowning!

I don't want to get them as loot (maybe a couple?), but if keeping them alive appeases Cob, we could try to argue for keeping them alive.

And no sailor would willingly put this thing on unless they are actually drowning, so it falls to us to demonstrate.

Not duergar, they would try to cheat or intimidate you on the split, but they would not just grab something

He has never met a worg, but he would like to. He does like Goblin Dogs (and thinks the name is longshanks slander)

Wasn't picturing Menkir as a Bard. Had him pegged as a Magus for some reason.

I worry about the logistics of keeping the masks, but they could prove useful in the short term. Also don't want to upset Cob.

Hehehe, oh man save us if we come across goblin dogs that Cob wants to adopt.

Maybe he and Gorok can find a way to keep them alive long-term, but if not no huge loss.
