Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

I'm confused.
The devil was killed. But.... how?

In order:
  • Surprise round from the bluff, it could not believe you would do that
  • Slimed because it was flat footed, now even worse off
  • Angry iruxi hits it with an axe for 15 damage, even with its DR it felt that one
  • Stabbed though its previous wound by a giggling goblin with a dagger whose property was discovered to be bane devil (incidentally you now know what Click's otherworldly parent is, kid's scared of that dagger)
  • Hit with 2d6 Sonic damage before its initiative came up

[X] Continue the fight
-[X] Kill them all
--[X] Gorok and the other Iruxi quickly skin the dead Hellhounds while Mina heals Cob. Kori examines the slain Devil's remains with Detect Magic.

Holy shit we did it! I honestly thought that devil would make an escape before we killed it.

Cob once more the MVP, since that bane dagger really did most of the work, though Mina came through on clutch with that finishing attack!

So Click is a tiefling? Half-fiend?

Best to take out dogs so won't be an issue and loot everything.

Basically, Kori and his Bluff skill is MVP for this fight.

Without it's Dex bonus to AC, Warty's slime was able to Entangle the Devil. That debuffed it enough for Gorok to hit for 15 damage, or 10 after taking DR into account.

Cob's Devil Bane dagger let him do 1d4+7+2d6+2d6 damage to the Devil, since it was Entangled and thus denied it's Dex bonus to AC. 25 damage, or 20 after DR.

That dropped it down to 8 HP, allowing Mina's lucky Ear-Piercing Scream spell to finish it off.

EDIT: :ninja: DP

This turned out allright. Wooooo

I was thinking that this devil would just teleport away
I was worried about that, too. Was why I was really hoping that Stun Vial would work.

If we hadn't killed it so fast, which was only possible because it was so injured already, that's probably what would have happened.

BTW, @DragonParadox, what's the XP for an encounter like that? Normally it would probably be over 1000 each for a party of five 4th level-ish people, but being injured previously made it easier than it would have otherwise been.

Probably a very weird form of the latter, judging by his demonstrated ability to teleport when under stress.
Half fiend, fully adorable.
And also not someone we can keep with us, DR and teleport or no. I learnt that from Critical Role season 2.

Do not take children/babies on adventures.

Edit: Crudbuckets. Idola was not involveled from the point where we investigated the fire, which.... Reasonable. Sensisble.
And I suppose that even if she isn't going to go with her charges on the boat, she would be focused on her railroad work rather than being available to be our party's face.

Salikotal takes 20 Damage -> Now at 8/76 HP -> Bane Dagger Revealed as Devil Bane
Ho-ho-ho, hoooly...!

I hoped the fight would end with the devil turning tail; it wouldn't try to scare us off if it felt confident, and our party was a hindrance that wasn't necessary to confront. The dagger was clutch. Having it alone guaranteed victory, because the devil wouldn't have pushed his luck with it in play. But landing a hit with it, that felt great.

As for the hounds... any strategy we use would involve crowd control to keep one or more enemies entangled. If it's part of our strategy, why not leave one alive to prod its mind, before we put it out of its misery?

It counted as CR 6 because it was 50% HP and had run though some of its limited use SLAs, still a lot by the standards of the party, especially when counting the hellhounds who are part of the same encounter.

Time is the main reason I'm not interested, but also because Hellhounds aren't very smart and probably wouldn't have much useful information.

Will miss Click, but better off somewhere safe and stable to be raised, yeah.

Once more Warty proving to be pure battle toad! @DragonParadox at this point you should just make it part of backstop his line is from true war mounts and the seller had no idea how badass the slurk truly was.

Maybe, maybe he just found his calling. The important thing is the satisfaction of watching the stinky-scary red thing get slimed and then stomped on by slurk-friends

For myself, I don't wanna be faced with the possiblity of a moral quandry.
Kill the mean helldoggos rather than deal with the complications of leaving any alive. We're facing a lot of preducice without adding a hellhound to the mix, and leaving it to its own devices will just result in more information about us becoming available to whoever picks up the hellhound than if we killed it like the rest.

Does Warty know he is a really good slurk and that he is loved?
I like to think Cob has been helping with the emotional validation and positive reinforcement there.

Edit: We should share out fungal stun bombs, if possible.
Everyone gets one.

Oh no, Iolda is with you guys, she used Magic Missile on one of the Hounds. Lying to devils just isn't her skilset and she would not have known how to signal an attack anyway.

Still hoping she joins the party once we get the Halflings to safety. A Phoenix Bloodline Sorcerer would be a great addition to the party, especially one as harmless looking as a Halfling. Diplomacy would be back on the table.

Speaking of, was this enough XP to push her to 4th level?

Yeeah! Outstanding victory! Praise Desna!
