Supposed to be Kirito making a lame joke in his monologue.
I really appreciate these. The way Kirito's inner monologue almost seems like he's narrating for an imaginary audience fits his character very well. He clearly views himself as the super clever character that the author would use to insert little fourth wall breaking jokes and bits of exposition, like a large part of his self image revolves around what kind of character he would be if his life were a fictional story. And there's this layer of irony about it, because he is actually a fictional character, but he's missing so much information about the setting that he doesn't really play the role that he thinks he should, and it really tickles my sense of humor.

3) Honestly the in-game gossiping on "what are Titles" was maybe the weakest part, in the sense that I'm not sure I captured all the subtext I wanted to. So let me know what you got out of it, and I'll see if that matches what I intended to put in.
So canon had all that tension between new players and beta players, largely because people were looking for someone to lash out at and the beta players were somewhat associated with Kayaba and the game's production in the minds of the regular players. That tension is still there, so anyone who seems like they have Kayaba'a attention or favor would be viewed with distrust at best, and with Klein not getting a title it makes the existing title holders even more suspicious.

I mean
Chapter every other week or so was the normal posting speed for a while. I don't want to over-promise but rather than this being exceptional I'm trying to return to what was normal, I guess?
My first update of this was the one where Hexi met the Sorcery Hunters, before that I kinda just rolled my eyes every time I saw this while browsing sites. (Boy was that a mistake, This is easily a contender for my favorite Nasu crossover, Man on the Moon is the other one)

I say keep it

It'd be hilarious if it's an in universe mistake.

All the conspiracy people thinking it's some kind of sign or something because everything Kayaba has done so far was exceedingly meticulous, when it's just one thing that slipped, because it was the [Beach Episode] so he didn't bother too hard.

I'm just amused that Kirito is clearly picking up on Asuna's cues and intentionally blinding himself because he's way too socially awkward to deal with it.

Or like, rather than Shirou who is just oblivious, Kirito feels like he's going "I know exactly what is happening and I have no idea how to react to it so let's pretend it doesn't exist." (It helps that Argo is straight-up shipping them :V)

"Shirou, I think that Asuna-san is trying to get me to romance her. What should I do?"

"Hmph. Have you tried jamming it in? It works out every time."

>Usually crab has 10 limbs
>10-8=2
>10/2=5
>8-5=3

You know what has three sides? That's right, triangles. Illuminati confirmed! Kayaba is actually under the thumbs of Illuminati and is trying to signal players for help.

As a note on the whole [Titles] thing, you might recall how a few chapters back there was this discussion where Diabel talked to Shirou about how the nail that sticks up either gets [Nerfed] or the game gets harder to match, and what that'd do to other players? And note how Kirito comments on how, well, the whole thing...
feels like a kludge to me

I'm just saying, there might be a connection there between the leader of the clearers being worried about what might happen if people get too cool, the goal of making people explore magecraft, and the GM noticing said former conversation.

This was a pretty fun chapter. Lind's perspective is interesting in how direct and almost sparse it is, but there's just a hint of humor there as well (mentally referring to the King Krab's claw as a "Klaw"). I'm not really sure what to make about the DDD's magecraft, on the one hand the results they're able to get with like... a college degree understanding of physics, seems almost OP but on the other I imagine that any proper magus would consider it brutish and inelegant (which I guess they might have a point, since in real life you're not going to go around with a suit of armor and a halberd).

Klein and his guild really won my respect, I love the combination of meticulous planning and being as badass as possible. Like all the little bits with magecraft and technology working in unison, using alchemy to make liquid oxygen, getting rid of air resistance with wind magic, and forcing the whole ship to stay together with reinforcement until it was no longer needed. And on that subject, the combat bunkers also seem like huge game-changers, in the way it allows for tactics like this and easy extraction. I've gotta wonder how Kayaba is going to balance these things out, because on the one hand it is demonstrating both cleverness and an understanding of magecraft and game mechanics, on the other hand just straight up bombing every boss, or hiding in a bunker whenever someone uses a big AoE attack probably isn't how he wants things to go.

Finally the party, seeing Kirito and Asuna clearly being into each other but not really being sure how to broach it is pretty adorable, and Argo seems to agree with my assessment. The Titled player thing is interesting, I like how you're keeping how Kirito is almost on the same wavelength as Kayaba with the additional factor of that kind of weirding out anyone else who hears about it, but Argo is definitely going to keep his words in mind. And the talk with Shirou, seeming him kind of echo what Kirito was saying but from a different perspective and the way it subtly put people on edge was really nicely done, though it becomes hilarious in hindsight when you remember that while this is happening, Shirou is just wearing a speedo (it's a small thing but I liked his grumbling when Kirito made a point of not asking him about it, it's nice when Shirou gets to take a break from exposition). I wonder if Argo, Asuna, and Kirito have their own private memo things where they keep a note of every suspicious thing Shirou says (I imagine they might have tried with Illya but there was just too much to list), and what they'll make of him saying that results are the important thing.

The interesting thing I took away from Shirou-sensei this chapter is the existence of 'proper methods' and 'propriety' to magic, and that someone (Kiritsugu?) taught him to prize results more than any of that nonsense.

And so ends the beach episode what a cool way to end it though the party was pretty sparse. It was interesting seeing things from Lind's pov the first time since the Kariya fight I believe and I'm a sucker for seeing Shirou's weapons help players fight (Platina Halberd is a nice name) ditto that for Agil's 5 element Axe. And of course Klein's shoot a rocket at the monster crab plan was amazing and I'm also suprised you didn't go with that giant enemy crab meme.

Kiritsugu's whole philosophy was 'whatever works'. He'd use guns and bombs but he wasn't a technological purist, he'd enchant bullets and use magic to enhance his physical abilities and drag the fight into the dirt if that was what it took to win.

if Illya ever get pissed enough to take a page from her dad book, she can replicate Alter-Emiya Unlimited Lost Work with a bit of Alchemy and a few pieces of Shirou

Now, the next step is to have her actually have a chance at winning the race!
*Looks at Realta Nua Fate Route Final Epilogue* Nope, the race is already over. She lost before she was ever in the running and she doesn't even know it.

Like say, if [The Magus Killer] or the [White Doll] were to appear in the game. Kayaba would need some seriously good luck and excuses to get out of that unscathed. "It was procedurally generated, just like [Omi the Fool] and [Zolgen]!"
*Game world shaking itself apart under Illya's wrath*

*finger wiggling* Many parallel worlds, Last Episode Shirou is not necessarily the ultimate end of a Fate Shirou. Continuation of the Dream is a better ending anyway, and it's more open to new romances.
I feel like Argo has a strong shot in the Shiroubowl. She's essentially the only real contender in contact with him for the duration of SAO, the other Heroines(Rivals) are walled off. Only Illya really stands in her way.

Depending on how ruthless Illyasviel chooses to go that could be a bad end scenario.

And I think Ilya has leaned too hard into the 'we're family' thing for her to have a shot. It gives her a claim on him, but the wrong kind for him to feel comfortable for that.

Back to the story, I wonder if we will end up having Zouken interupt? And by that, I mean if it will turn out that Zouken Just As Planned this long ago, by planting idea of creating virtual him into Kayaba as a backup plan in case of his death. So [Worm Magus Zolgen] would slowly become real deal and try to wrestle control over Aincard away from Kayaba and eat all players in process.

That... uhhh, that probably wouldn't be the Real Deal, tho? Like, closest to that I can remember is Touko's body-jumping trick? Also, Zouken might be alive, because this is post-Fate route? And why eat players? Pull a Junko Enoshima and rewrite their minds into a copy of Zouken???

Though, Kayaba also being a horcrux of Zouken is a funny idea, what with him researching with Ilya to reach Heaven's Feel, if unlikely, because self-diagnostics?
