You could create a plan that includes that, if you wish!
Hmm, let's see.

Do we have anything of Riya's, a gift she gave us? That'd satisfy the emotional connection, and I think that Hilda's current opinion of Riya might characterize her as air (flighty, unbound, ...)
And well, if people want to destroy an air focus to use a broom, doing that with a keepsake of Riya would force a choice;

I am deeply happy that my plan is getting traction :D , I'm deeply sad that I did not mention in the plan a good idea for an air focus D:

I got a hard time believing that this military base will be Sara selling great Eagle feathers, so I the scarf idea is going to have be close enough for postal work; especially if there's an undercurrent of fuck you, fuck this circus, fuck airplanes, who needs airplanes to fly? Not me! I'm not me, I'M GODDAMN WITCH" *flys off on broom, powered mostly by spite*

Well, let's see :

[ ] Write in 3 facts, one of which is bad for you. Let's change it up a little!
-[] An old battlefield at the base of the mountain provides ample material for scavenging
-[] The base is adjacent to an old resort, with ski slope and still extant, but steadily decaying hotels. It means the accomodations are both excellent and suprisingly affordable , with warm air, water and more supplied by a local hot spring
-[] The base commander is an old fashioned sort, believing that while combat aviation is a fine career for a young woman, it is unthinkable for a fine young woman to dedicate her to the career when she has not even debuted for polite society, and with no prospects for marriage. He has arrayed his finest officers and most eligible soldiers for a ball with you as guest of honor. According to Riya, it's mostly excuse to provide the soldiers with cheap alcohol, cheap entertainment and unattached outsiders while staying within formal military regulation

Nah, the eagle feathers was another option for hte town, one that did not get chosen.

And emotional connection to the thingy is kind of important, not sure any storebought feather will do.

And since we don't have Reach Out, using Riya's scarf as a focus is impossible without physically taking it from her.

Wait! I have an even seen worse/better idea. When witches do the wild thing, whoever they did it with becomes a blood focus for said. We have broken trust with Riya, can whatever sweet token we got from our *Skyborn* crush become an Air Focus instead of a Blood Focus? Tearfully Tying strands of her hair (or hair scrunchy, or whatever we would have used a Blood Focus) into the brooms brush is preeettttyyy dramatic

If we could get a scrap of our old plane, that would maybe work? We could make the broom first, then fly to the crash site.

I would allow Riya's scarf to be used as an air focus. A focus needs some kind of emotional connection to you. The scarf does, just not for... healthy reasons. You'll be able to take it without her noticing though, don't worry.

Well that's sad. Guess she doesn't want to see that reminder of us either.

Anyway, maybe use Gunther as a focus? One feather works, why not a whole bird?

Things of or created by industry are always Iron. Men who have forsaken their humanity for industry and war are usually Iron too.
(This is not actually true, though. A mass produced sword is iron, but that same sword, wielded by a father and passed down to a child, could get another nature entirely).

Cause the wording is "sacrifice" and I'm assuming you're not sacrificing your best friend for a magic broom.

Edit: and even if you just sacrificed the feather and then made Gunther a new focus, you don't have Reach Out, so you'd need to have him with you.

Yeah, using our familiar/beloved companion and confident seems very dangerous for us and him. Also, we can just use the scarf as an air focus until we get another focus and burn the feather for the broom. So we will be borrowing the scarf, not stealing it? Lol, if we were capable of being adults, and it could even be a point of reconciliation; because "I need something that is emotionally important to me for my magic to work (as you still are) as I do my best to rescue these hostages after I shit the bed with the general"

Hey guys, sorry for no updates for the last few days, there's something weird I don't really understand going on with me, but I'm fine don't worry! I'll get something out soon.

6-11 Step In The Wrong Direction
[X] Grand Theft Aero
- 4xp for As the Crow Flies: Sacrifice a Focus of Air to imbue an item with the power of flight.
— imbue our broom with Flight
- 4xp to increase Calm
- buy new armor
- buy a sawed-off shotgun (pg 126 of Chariots of Steel) we can use instead of the revolver
- buy a pair of polarized lenses so we can get a +1 to Eye-Ball
- Create a new Air Focus

It was time to figure out how to enchant your broomstick. It had been your dream to fly away on it for your adolescent years, but you never got around to it. But you felt stronger now, more in charge of yourself. Instead of following a spellbook, you were performing your own spells and succeeding at it. You realized that you could probably just do it if you tried. So you did try. You sat down with your giant feather, your broomstick, and Gunther out in a quiet corner of the airplane hanger, as you weren't going back to the airship right now.

You held the broom and the feather in each hand, quietly chanting a prayer of freedom to Doana as you felt the feather begin to wither in your hand. After a few minutes, you looked back to it, and it was just a small pile of dust in your hand. The broomstick felt energetic, however. Powerful, almost. You weren't really sure how you knew. You uncrossed your legs and stood up again, tucking the stick between your legs, realizing you should probably find some different way to sit if you were gonna be doing this regularly, and jusr mentally commanded the stick to fly, like telling your own body to jump. To your surprise, you lifted off the ground, and started to rise into the air. "Oh, fuck yes." You quietly laughed, lowering yourself back down to the hanger floor. This would definitely be coming in handy sometime soon.

You went back to the quartermaster's office for some new supplies next. You were going up against the goths, yet again. You couldn't handle the situation of being boarded the same way as last time, clearly. Sure, you had a revolver, but considering your opponent last time was able to hang on when you flipped your plane three times in a row, you were unsure if something so low caliber would even stop them. You bought a sawed off shotgun, which was recommended to you as the most effective-to-budget anti-boarding weapon, a new helmet, and while you were there a pair of polarized goggles to replace your previous set that has been smashed against your dashboard. Polarized lenses basically completely filtered out glare from the sun, and made it way easier to spot things when you weren't constantly squinting from looking above you. You'd discovered by now you had a habit of spotting things a second too late, so hopefully these would help with that.

Finally, you snuck back onto the airship after you saw Riya leave for whatever pre-flight ritual she had. You needed another focus for your air magic. Unfortunately, there was only one thing you could think of you had an emotional connection to that you could bring in a mission. Keeping your hand over your face the entire time to use your ability of passing unseen, you quickly entered Riya's room, and searched it for that blue scarf you bought for her all those weeks ago. Goddesses, you'd changed since then, and you easily weren't at your final stage of development. You found it in the trunk beneath her bed, stuffed it in your bag, and made sure not to leave anything different than when you walked in before sneaking out again to make your final preflight checks with Edgar.

Alright! So, going into battle this time is gonna be a bit different. You finally get to start with an advantage since it'll be an ambush! You'll be very close to the ground, however. Now let's vote on the advantage you start with!

[ ] Start with an altitude advantage (against the small amount of aircraft)
[ ] Spot the enemy and act when they're unaware (Say what Edgar will try to blast/bomb before the real battle starts)
[ ] Catch the enemy spread out (Only be shot at by AA guns or Aircraft, never both in one round)
[ ] Come in behind your foe (Unfortunately impossible)

This is going to have consequences, and I am excited to see them!

I really want to try and figure out a way to not need the scarf for longer than necessary. We'll need another focus soon.

Stealing back that scarf just seems like drama-bait. Like a chekov's gun that we put onto the wall ourselves.

First, love the giddiness she has after flying the broom. We might need to use the scarf or something scarf shaped to hide our face if have to jump ship.

Second:

Drama Bait? What!?!? *sets popcorn down* I'm shocked! *hides mojito w/crazy straw* Shocked! *rips off my Audrey Hepburn Sunglasses* And frankly, I little bit hurt. *picks up tiny dog and storms off.*
