[Exalted/SMT] Shard of a Broken Sun

Does making a speech about love and peace work as a stunt in exalted, or do we have to tell Amu to jump up trees and throw Stones at the Monster or something?

A two dice stunt says that using the trees would be better. Slingshot off a tree limb to fling lasers from a higher angle with a lot of sparkling and posing.

Stunting

What I'm hearing is "you need to give lessons on stunting, stat!"
Fortunately, this is a topic that's been covered in Exalted quests before!
Surely if we steal that lecture nothing will go horribly wrong.
Right, I do need to make a decision on (Amu's) stunting. Here it is:

Stunting is not a thing. It doesn't really make sense in a written story, with me being both the writer and the judge. Instead, she gets a high rate of mote regeneration while in combat; fluff-wise, that's her exaltation shard dumping its own reserves into her peripheral pool.

Once out of combat, the regen drops to its usual rate, basically for efficiency reasons. Also to let the shard recover its own reserves. You have a battery capable of holding a few hundred motes, which is significant but by no means infinite, and I will call you on that if required.

Willpower is basically plot-driven, and recovers quickly while she's relaxing or when she's acting in concert with her virtues. But it's also a proxy for her mental exhaustion, and permanent willpower will fluctuate depending on how tired she is. If it drops by half, that's roughly the point where she'll faint from exhaustion.

Your stunts, on the other hand, modify the overall plot. Not (usually) directly, though I'll happily retcon events you haven't actually seen to make the story fit better, but Amu's decisions - and my own suggestions for the shard's advise - are rarely optimal. Giving me more detail can push things in either direction, but should usually improve the outcome; at the very least, it'll make whatever outcome you were aiming for more likely. (Often whether or not that turns out to be a good idea.)

Currently, the leading (and only) option, with three votes, is:
[X] Attack, attack, attack. Beam-spam it to someone's death.
-[X] Amu, make sure to use Joint-Wounding Attack. You saw how it damaged Samael's connection to this world.

I'll call that a one-point stunt. It leaves a lot undefined.
Normally I'd call the vote in three hours, but.. do you want more time? Also keep in mind that "write-in" was an option.

[X] You don't know if you can beat it this way, but if you can distract it, it should be enough to save more people. Use you beams, augmented by your charms and your compassion, to draw the attention of the monster when he's distracted trying to attack people, if done right you should be able to draw his attention or at least keeping him from attacking.
-[X] If he does start paying attention to you, focus on running (or dodging, if he starts attacking), attacking only if his attention slips from you once again.
[X] Once all the people are safe you can focus on figuring out a way to take it down. Maybe one of those uniformed men has a solution. If he doesn't you can try to focus on finding a way to more effectively sever the creature's connection to it's greater self.

Would something like this work better?

[X] Inform JP leader of what we know about it, and its usual, assumed tactics through Amu, if they don't already know
- [X] Coordinate? See if they have any specific plans and do what you can to support them. Most likely through use of the Cripple-Beam
[X] "There really just isn't a good answer to this one."

Well, I'm not going to tell you how it'd work up-front. That'd be ruining all the fun, you'll just have to come to a consensus on your own.

You're getting the hang of this, though.

Does it translate to more crippling? Damage won't help if it doesn't also cripple it more.

edit: Ah, I see it does. I should have checked the sheet.

It does, every level of damage inflicted during a joint wounding attack adds to the crippling. Channeling Compassion can be expected to add 1-2 levels on top.

I like this plan. It seems logical sensible and sane.

Seems the most reasonable, given that she's not about to punchsplode the summoner. Has my vote.
