[Exalted, ?] Most High

36 successes is only 2 under the average of 38, so we basically are getting 1 less evocation than the average case. Not bad, just not truly outstanding like last time. Still, we actually get 1 more evocation thanks to the lowered difficulty level for an Artifact 5 versus and Artifact N/A.

Your average result would have been 42 succcesses (32 dice @ 1 sux per die with TN 6, +10 sux from HAM, WP, Stunts and The Lily).
You missed out on 3 Evocations, so you're 5 Evocations away from the armor's Capstone Charm.

Alright! I did my homework this time and planned for about ~20 Charms in case you guys rolled well, but since we rolled below average we need to decide on a field to neglect.

[ ] Neglect Vitality - The Vitality field allows you to reverse wound penalties, increases your health levels (including -4 Health Levels, very useful), allows you to regenerate in- and outside of combat, and progressively reduces your need for sleep. If you neglect this field, you will take far fewer of the Health Level-boosting Evocation, which many of its Charms synergize with.

[ ] Neglect Counter-Contamination - The Counter-Contamination field allows you to adapt to, overcome, and immunize yourself to poisons and diseases, even incurable ones, and dramatically improves your resilience to environmental effects. Many creative vectors of attack are stymied by this Charm tree. If you neglect this field, you'll only take the basic anti-poison / disease Charm.

[ ] Neglect Evolution - The Evolution field allows you to grant yourself mutations, to disguise the Scales as mundane clothing, and to adapt to combat damage, including a psuedo-perfect defense. It also dramatically improves your mobility and combat power and is overall an exceptionally useful tree. If you neglect this field, you will only take the basic mutation and disguise Charms.

OR,

[ ] Master of Sable - Spend 400,000 Solar XP to completely master the Sable Scale and attain its capstone Evocation, Evolution's End, which allows you to attain an Ultimate Form of power greater than the Ascendant Battle Visage. Requires a BPA charge as well.

I am very tempted by that last option. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the hell an Ultimate Form is.

You're presently at 420,000 Normal and 472,000 Solar XP, though the Charms Flash-bought in preparation for the Lily reduce that to 260,000 Normal XP. Since Solar Circle Sorcery requires 240,000 (50 + 50 + 100 + 40) Normal and 70,000 (30 + 40) Solar XP to get, you have enough XP to get SCS.

Let's see subtract 400,000 and that is 72,000 Solar XP left which is still enough to get Sorcery.

So

[X] Master of Sable

Edit: that was from yesterday's XP count and we've had some stunts since then so we actually would likely have even more XP.

[X] Neglect Counter-Contamination

Even basic, solar-tier anti-poison effects are ridiculously effective and all poison needs to be delivered somehow. I think we'll be fine with this.
If we take Master of Sable, do we use those xp to flash-buy or train normally?

Terrestrial Evocations are slightly weaker than Solar-tier effects, unless the effect they're copying is REALLY basic (Spirit-Cutting, etc). Only Adamant effects are really on par with Solar Charms.

You train 2 and Flash-Buy 4 Charms, so you save 80,000 Solar XP over Flash-buying in combat directly.

Guys, that 400,000 XP is your Sorcerous Working stockpile! You'll have almost 0 Solar XP after this if you go that route, which means you'll be forced to spend Normal XP on Workings. And you won't be able to learn the Star-Crown of Morning Charms from Ambition and teach them to Ivory with Selfsame Master Instructor!

[X] Master of Sable

We still have enough exp even after buying this to get scorcery and everything else we have been arguing over.

Think about the cost of not getting it as well. Every single one of these options would be a serious chink in our armor. yes I made that pun but the point remains. This armor is here to keep us alive. With it fully upgraded we can likely withstand just about any avenue of direct attack on us Syn may attempt. And by direct I mean anything that is directed at us but not necessarily anyone else. We can even wear the armor at all times, even to sleep in since it has a maxed out disguise. Then there is of course the ultimate form the armor can grant that should boost our direct combat ability as well. Not just our defensive capabilities would be effected here but also our offensive capabilities with how that reads. Perhaps it acts like power armor? Improving our blows? Who knows, we do know that it makes us a stronger direct fighter and that Anys is going to be hell to deal with personally.

Upgrade the armor to max though and we might very well be able to laugh off her efforts and spit her on our blade in personal combat.

Oops. I forgot the extra 4 dice. In that case the result was actually quite terrible. There was only a ~7% chance of rolling this poorly.

Tempting, but that is like all our Solar XP for workings and spells and stuff. Could we just train the two charms and leave the others for later?

The Anys train is coming. There is no stopping the Anys train! We aren't even getting scoercery for a while as well. We still have to go through her before we can pick up scorcery so we still have time for omakes and the like. Even in story solar exp gaining points!

No, the free Training Time is a function of buying the other Charms this turn. A one-time bundle discount, so to speak.

[X] Neglect Counter-Contamination

Let's not completely deplete our stock of experience for Workings.

If your primary worry is Syn, you shouldn't neglect Counter-Contamination.

I'd rather spend those solar xp getting more evocations for Ambition, they're more powerful and if we get enough we can use WtS on Ambition again and get another 10-15 free Evocations.

Fuck now I'm mad we didn't roll higher If we go this route, then we're going to need a lot of fan works to keep the xp generation high enough to pay for Sorcerous workings when we get sorcery.

Sigh lie I said ere's always some other shiny. If it wasn't for the fact I want to be as prepared as possible for Anys, I wouldn't want to go all the way.

However there's this to consider

Zao is stronger than the Lily. Substantially, in multiple fields. The Lily is really strong, but she's not that strong. Zao could beat Ahlat like a red-headed stepchild. He could go toe-to-toe with Ligier and have decent odds.

And remember, Anys is stronger than Zao.

And we barely defeated Lily so we 're going to want to get as strong as possible for when the Anys train comes charging full speed at us.

If need be we can always flashbuy everything later at the cost of only 80,000xp more. I'd say the possible cost of having to do that is worth if for the chance of 160,000xp savings.

She may, she may not. But it's not as if she lacks for access to distinctive and overpowering poisons and supernatural diseases to surreptitiously inflict on you either way!
Ah, right, she has that vial she used on Moon the last time around. Even without esoteric and poisonous kung fu, she's probably built up quite a stockpile over the centuries.

[X] Neglect Evolution

With that in mind, let's Neglect Evolution. It hurts, yes, but we need to shore up our weaknesses, and Perfect Mirror probably has most of our disguise needs covered anyway. We don't have any real defense against poison and we're relatively squishy. Also, needing less sleep gives us more room to act.
