[Exalted, ?] Most High

Yeah, I'm thinking if we can draw Lily of the Valley out for another murderfrenzy by seizing the intiative and bolstering the will of our organization, we can weaken the Deathlord faction as well. Then again, if anyone in that bunch recognizes Ambition, they're not going to just send Lily of the Valley out, and a Supercombattant with stacked Charisma plus an army (Or a whole Circle of Abyssals) would be... Tricky.

Unless, of course, we can make use of Prophecy at this point to arrange the circumstance to entice her out into the open after we deal with the Raksha march, which we can probably reverse into a large morale boost as well.

[X] Head Off the Fae

We focused the lion's share of our strength and energy improving our personal prowess. The time has come to use it.

A high speed, accelerated Deep Strike into the Raksha lines, assassinating their leadership, bringing down their monsters, and liberating prisoners (Including at least one Sorcerer) will give us far greater strength and utility in the days ahead, and it's unlikely that the enemy will give us time to dig in once they realize what we're up to. We use the element of surprise to open up by taking one of the greater threats off of the board, recover what strength we can in the meantime, and once we've broken the Raksha line, we can prepare to endure the enemy counterattack. If we do it properly, we can draw Lily of the Valley out to repeat her feat (Especially if we can mask our attempt as the efforts of the Immaculate Brotherhood). If we can subsequently destroy or capture her, we'll deal a terrible blow to the Gardener's forces, as well as their morale--as many of their recent defections are by dint of her charisma.

@Rihaku : Can we get a brief rundown of identified enemy Supercombattants and Major Hero-types now that we're in place?

The prisoners are in the freehold, they're not with the host.

The Dragon-Blooded don't know that much about enemy hero units, because the enemy champions haven't had occasion to really go all-out, but the ones mentioned in the post are the ones they've seen.

The Lily of the Valley, Dusk Caste. She is at least as strong as Ulyssian was when he killed Polemgaos, likely stronger. Uses a rapier and soulsteel gauntlet.

The Seeds of the Poppy, Daybreak Caste. He is a Necromancer of the Labyrinth Circle (at least) and their main source of zombies. Zombie forces are estimated to number in the tens of thousands, at least.

Ragmar, Lunar Anathema (Caste Unknown). He is powerful and treacherous, allied with the Bull of the North. His horde comprises at least fifty thousand beastmen, though they have a lot of land to control. Knows portions of at least the White Reaper and Tiger styles.

Iron Sislay is a Raksha Noble of considerable power, but not much is known of him besides the fact that he is an expert swordsman. The Sislay Chorus rarely deploys nobles of his calibre outside the freehold.

As for the behemoths, none have survived close to them, but scouting reports indicate that one is a mountain-sized beast of mottled black-ish flesh; orange forge-light radiates from its seams. Roughly humanoid, it scoops out hills with its fists to form crude, shallow "sleeping places" each night. The other is a great crystalline spider, violet and blue against the sky, whose joints shriek like crystal against glass when it moves.

RED OPTION IS REEEEEEDDD!

[x] Head off the Fae
Those damn dirty story folk are going to learn to fear the END ONCE MORE!

Also, I second Alectai's question about any enemy hero units, and add one about whether or not we can recruit the legion back up to strength from the refugees. I like the cut of the Legion's commander's jib though, Nellens is cool.

Not without several months to train them. Or at least a month, and the DB officers would be occupied with the training and unable to lead their commands in the field.

A mechanics question: Is there a limit to the size of a battle group? That is, would the Legion count as a single battle group if Ulyssian were to lead it against the Fae?

Okay, tough, but doable--where are all of these ridiculous prodigies even coming from that all the other Celestial Exalts we come up against are all a match for mister "My learning curve is absurd even by Celestial Standards!" Unless we're basically universally taking on Day One Exalts who have access to elaborate training programs and are talented even among their type.

Still, we're much stronger than we were when we fought Polemgaos, correct?

Hopefully the fae will recognize us as the End of Stories and the Subduer of the Wyld.

Alternatively, we use our supernatural disguise skills to appear to be someone else.

They might if you demonstrate it! Anyone can wear the face of the End of Stories; a raksha child could do that. But only the End of Stories has his strength.

[X] Use the Fae

The Fae are stories, right? Well, we're the new commander at the head of the underdog faction ready to fight against horrific odds. Which basically, in their eyes, would guarantee us the win.

We're also Odyssial.

Why not just go up to them, say "You're part of my army now" and go fight the Lunar.

Sure, you could try that...

Oh right, then that charsheet is really out of date.

The Updated Character Sheet has Better Listener.

I don't think you have enough intelligence yet to make predictions about what The Lily of the Valley will or won't do. Also, Prophet of Seventeen Cycles doesn't work well on individuals. It predicts societies and civilizations, not single people.

Well, that's inconvienent.

Still, we're in the thick of it, and the options we selected for pre-battle do not favor a defensive posture. We need to take one of our enemies off the board while we can--by Rihaku's description, the Faerie attack force isn't actually their real strength, but it's still probably a non-trivial investment in their resources, so bringing it out of play will buy us time to consolidate, and hopefully aid in gathering intelligence.

As I mentioned much earlier in the thread, there is a very good reason why certain Abyssals are as powerful as they are. As for Ayala, there's certainly a selection effect given that she was at that tournament. Ivory is weaker than you and is four hundred years old, and Ragmar is like a thousand. Nilul is also weaker than you, so I don't think your statement is accurate.

As for why Luseng has powerful Celestial Exalts near it - well, powerful Celestial Exalts exist, and they need to be somewhere. They will likely be where important events and objects are. And Luseng has a mountain made of solid jade.

Still, we're much stronger than we were when we fought Polemgaos, correct?

Yes, roughly 3-5 Titles stronger.

Well we did choose the Nightmare Mode Satrapy.

[X] Head Off the Fae

We have concentrated on personal power before arriving here so we should use it.

You know you can use your personal power in the other two options as well, right? With much less risk!

A mechanics question: Is there a limit to the size of a battle group? That is, would the Legion count as a single battle group if Ulyssian were to lead it against the Fae?

Size 5, so if you fight the entire Fae army by yourself you'll contend with 10 Size 5 Battle Groups, each commanded by a Cataphract, plus two Behemoths, plus a Size 4 Battle Group of Cataphracts, plus the Duke.

Trust me, that is risky even for you.

Well, that's inconvienent.

Beating them will also have great effects on morale and make a superb first impression for you, as long as you do it where people can see! Them having to take your word for it, even if you bring back some severed heads and show them the Behemoth corpses... well, it just lacks the raw emotional appeal of immediacy.

The current morale situation in the city could really use some help.

[X] Head Off the Fae

It cuts off one of our enemies, and if we come back should also raise a large amount of morale since a single person destroyed one of the 3 major factions that oppose Luseng.

[X] Use the Fae

Just because

You... know that's not actually a viable plan, right?!
Well we did choose the Nightmare Mode Satrapy.

It seems like you guys got ~3-5 more Charms from Wake the Sleeper than expected, and suddenly think you're invincible! You are strong enough that winning against 11 Battle Groups commanded by Cataphracts, 2 Behemoths, and a Raksha Duke by yourself is possible, but that doesn't mean it isn't risky, especially without a plan!

I mean, from their perspective, it's like the Hulk dropping out of the sky and demanding you pay taxes or die.

It's time to pay some taxes, amirite.

You have done nothing to prove that you are the Hulk. And they might defy you heroically just 'cause!

Or they ran into The Lily of the Valley and she decided to idiosyncratically kill them because she felt like it. Or the behemoths turned on them. You can take credit for it, sure, but how would they know? All you have is your not very charismatic word.

Could we lead what is left of the legion against the Fae, instead of going alone, or would that preclude the use of hit and fade tactics? Alternatively, if we were to lead the legion and take out one of the behemoths, and perhaps one or two of the Fae battle groups, would the Duke be willing at that point to accept a challenge to a duel?

It would, yes. Also, it'd be a LOT slower, logistically speaking. Moving two thousand men is quite a bit of work, when you're not superhuman Wyld beings (or even when you are)!

Alternatively, if we were to lead the legion and take out one of the behemoths, and perhaps one or two of the Fae battle groups, would the Duke be willing at that point to accept a challenge to a duel?

You don't know enough about the Duke. These guys just haven't been challenged enough for intel to be collected on them. But honestly, you would probably prefer a fight against a moderate number of Battle Groups + the Duke rather than a duel, since it lets you benefit from The King Stands Alone (which is insanely powerful).

By repeat our feat again in the future,We fight dirty and will find a way.

[X] Head Off the Fae

End their stories.

You know you can end their stories just as effectively with Siege Warfare, right? There's no reason you have to consign yourself to just giving orders in Siege Warfare; you would be fighting from the front just the same, only where people can see you and be heartened by your skill.

Even if you pick Contemplation, you can still fight them directly, you just ALSO get to use a Prophecy before fighting.

I know right? We need to send a gift basket to our enemies later on for just giving it to us instead of us having first to prove ourselves further before getting such awesome opportunities. :p

Just make sure it isn't a fruit basket!

[X] Siege Warfare

We're here to impress people by defeating powerful enemies. Kind of hard to impress them if they aren't there, isn't it? More importantly this will cement Ulyssian's authority over the legion and the capital, going a long way to making up for his comparatively limited social focus. You people wanted to build a powerbase from the assets available in Luseng? Well this is how you start, since all those Dragonblooded are critical lieutenants for such a force. They'll also send out accounts of Ulyssian's prowess to their Houses, families, and friends back home, spreading his fame into the Realm.

Alone keeps being emphasized here. Is it impractical for some reason to bring the Wyld Hunt team that just shipped in alongside us? Assuming they don't turn on us at the first available opportunity, I'd sort of expect them to be good at beating fae/abyssal/lunar faces in, to the greatest extent that can be expected from dragonbloods.

Even if we can't push to a full victory, bringing them as support and going for, say, just the behemoths and then withdrawing to the city could make a large difference while (relatively) minimizing risk and allowing the morale benefits of defeating the fae army in view of the city.

Indeed! You could improve that Mutinous and Panicking Mood, and improve Legion morale!

[X] Siege Warfare

They are all about the story, let's go for maximum drama. Yes, civilians die, but it does us personally the most good. H10, ahoy! :p
