Because, yeah. Truth.

And may I just say, I think Polemgaos had a good point when he gushed over Nilul. Liking her more than even Moon lately.

Soooooooo, RIhaku, how's Nilul reacting to all this?

How do you think? I'm curious what you guys believe her reaction to be!

"No plan survives contact with Sesus Ulyssian"

Unless it's Odyssial's plan!

You've been taken in by her wiles, I see.

Holy shit, I expected some sort of comedy of errors style battle where both sides were tripping over each other like retards yet the audience was convinced it was the greatest battle ever seen.

Not...this.

Oh fuck, we killed a Hero of the Realm. A Hero who could served as a valuable ally.

Well, let's look at the positives. We now have an utterly terrifying reputation, and we have a totally legitimate reason to withdraw from the tournament! Abandoning the tournament as part of our display of contrition might help. But more importantly it gets us the hell out without bringing too much suspicion on us.

There's that split between 'good everyone'll focus on him' and 'ohshittheythinktheycanusemetogettohim' along with a bit of '<3' with a good cross of 'MY Exalt is better then yours, and he'll wreck your shit to prove it'.

That would have been great as well!

She'll just have to EXTRA IMPLY that her Dragon'll TERMINATE anyone WHO SO MUCH AS LOOKS AT HER. Or deflect the attention to Moon, something like that.

Well. I'm like, pretty sure Zao had no intention of sparking off the Civil War right now. The tournament was just his way of keeping Ulyssian in the spotlight, introducing his protege, maybe building some rep, and of course keeping him busy so he doesn't do damnfool things like infiltrate Heaven to usurp the Loom of Fate.

I don't think he would actually object to Ulyssian seizing the initiative if there was some vital outcome that could be achieved. Uniting the Realm under Shogun Zao would certainly go a long way to helping stave off Creation's collapse. The problem is, do we have a way to actually accomplish it? Can we, in the few days before all hell breaks loose, line up a winning coalition? Nilul would certainly help there, and there are going to be a lot of people bandwagoning on the suddenly fearsome Zao faction, but this was definitely not planned and we've done little diplomacy hitherto. I'm not worried about the Sidereals overmuch, mind, because even the Bronze Faction in its full power couldn't stop the Civil War from breaking out; but the potential for an unplanned civil war to break out into unmanageable chaos is pretty high.

So anyone voting in favor of kicking it off would do very well to have a damned good plan to present.

Although this makes Counter-Infiltration easier to stunt if someone would actually do so. Those Infernals are going be very easy to intimidate now, and Intimidation is one of Ulyssian's big strengths, unlike social maneuvering. A blunt "I know what you are and I will fucking kill you if I don't like the answers you give to my questions" can probably generate some significant successes.

How did you guys feel about Polemgaos, in the brief span you saw of him? Not that it much matters now, but I am interested. Would you have allied with him? Invested the effort to try and convince him, when he inevitably discovered your Anathema nature? Or tearfully slaughtered him for extra XP, when given the chance?

Wait "I meant to do that" is only like a "may" cause civil war right?
Because I don't really want a civil war. We're not particularly ready for one, and we're not actually 'strong'. We haven't done any diplomatic relations yet.
I was thinking more of a "he died...that's too bad" instead of massive guilt or what not, and then we leave having demonstrated our strength.
Though now that I'm thinking about it, Massive Guilt and Total Remorse sounds slightly more in tune with that.

So changing:

I liked him. Thought he was a cool guy, we could have been bros, etc. Maybe in another life.

I'm still unfamiliar with the playerbase of this thread, but I expect most of the general SV Quest-base would probably slaughter him like a cow though. "Mah XP!"

Mhm, Zao can actually seize very good advantage of this situation, as it is advantageous for him, and well before his power and blood has been worn away by keeping Creation alive for 5, 10, 20 years more. It is unexpected, but... not necessarily undesired.

I thought he was what is referred to in certain circles as a "total baller".

His whole fascination with the Empress and Nilul was pretty neat, and as always I like seeing Ulyssian from an outside perspective.

And then he died, but even then he managed to get a shit eating grin at his own fate. Pretty cool.

See guys? This can be something GOOD for us, not BAD.

Hahahaha. Just look at "The Reaping" and the subsequent choice. It'll probably go that way.

"You can take the dragon out of the fire, but you can't take the fire out of the Dragon."

You know, this reminded me of a quote from earlier in the quest.

"I see..." Odyssial mused, feeling oddly hopeful, "A long, long path ahead, winding and uncertain. We will make many mistakes. We will stumble. We will fail. Many of us will fall, to the blades of our enemies or our own incapacity. I see ruin, and devastation, new horrors such as have never touched the world before. But we will learn from our mistakes. When we stumble, we'll correct our footing. From what does not kill us, we will emerge stronger. We will grow. And one day, a far day from today, the world will be a better place than it was the day before. And the next day, better again. And the next, and the next, and the next, and then one day, we'll turn around and we'll see that this world, it's not so bad as it used to be, it's not so cruel to be born here. One day at a time, into the golden forever."

This was a mistake.

What do we learn from it?

What's the option that leads towards a less-cruel world?

Because that world Odyssial saw? Ulyssian's the one trying to build it. And the choices we make could bring about that vision - or forever despoil it.

How did you guys feel about Polemgaos, in the brief span you saw of him?
I liked him. Quite a bit. Very interesting character.

Would you have allied with him? Invested the effort to try and convince him, when he inevitably discovered your Anathema nature? Or tearfully slaughtered him for extra XP, when given the chance?
I'd have been in favor of finding a way to ally with him, yes.

In a way, if we could find a way to get him to accept us - or, at least, concede that we were more acceptable than the other options - we'd stand a good chance of doing the same with most other Dragonblooded. And I don't think trying to rule by fear and threat of force is likely to end well, even outside of Exalted being a setting where a great many people have tried that before.
