[Exalted, ?] Most High

How long did it take for you to archive binge the whole thing? I'm interested in knowing how approachable everything is, it is a bunch of stuff to read if you want to be fully caught up, though I tried to make it playable from just the updates in this thread.
For what it is worth, I did something similar, using the threadmarks to catch up to the Moon and Stars update. Reading through them didn't take that long, but there were a few confusing issues. Mainly, it concerns the backgrounds of the characters, as most of the updates seem to be written with the assumption that the reader has read the past quest with these characters, and knows who they are. Nilul, for example, appears to be known to be an anathema, yet is somehow accepted by the dynasts at the school. This does not get explained in this thread, though I assume it is in the prior quest thread. Additionally, large portions of the arguments are based on knowledge of the characters from the prior quest, which is why I said earlier that I don't feel informed enough to actually vote. Hopefully that will change in the future, as the quest covers interactions with these characters, so I can get get a feel for them.

Good thing you don't get overwhelmed by enhanced senses, otherwise DB pheremone-based social attacks would be very hard to deal with! And Cathak Vaela would be a more important character than she currently is...

Nobody but Zao's inner circle know of Nilul's true nature

That is helpful, thanks. What I try to do is give enough information to place a character contextually, and if a player is curious in their nuances, the old quest exists to answer those questions, or they can continue reading and find out from this quest. Did you have any problem with Professor Ivory's apparently abrupt importance, or did her existence as Pearl mostly smooth that over?

Does anyone know if the Unsurpassed (Sense) Disciplines have any mechanical effect on Read Intentions actions? They must provide a lot of data, but if one doesn't know how to interpret that data, it's not very reliable. Similar to a polygraph test, which are notoriously easy to fool.
Not directly, some of the charms provides tertiary benefits for social actions, but none supplement Read intentions directly.

I didn't find it to be abrupt at all, actually. Her introduction in this story has Ulyssian identify her as Pearl before her current incarnation's name is even mentioned (in the same sentence), in the second update that takes place in the Age of Sorrows. Any potential abruptness was subsumed into the suddenness of being introduced to an expanded cast of characters at once, of which she was just one more.

Does Unsurpassed Hearing (or Keen Hearing) do anything?
It lets you hear conversations from long distances and through vibrations, even long passed ones, and know whenever an individual you have a major or higher positive intimacy is speaking and can hear them from any distance with a mote charge.

There are also several anti-stealth benefits.

Fanwork # 20 (post-Rose)

Dynastic Politics
Calibration Day 1, Ream Year 768, Year of the Mouse, Fire Cycle, Bronze Era of the 11th Epoch of the Dragon-Blooded Shogunate
Naval Academy, Seacrown.

"But Uly! You need to lighten up! Remember, you are an Exalt now~"
"Again, don't call me Uly."
You half-hear the two Anathema - one of the Golden Sun, while the other is vested with a Demonic shadow - bantering with each other.
No matter.
You have a situation to be handled. Now.

Using your Essence to fix your appearance to the most regal possible, you walk inside your principal meeting room. You haven't gotten around to remodeling it, with the decorative taste of the previous Headmaster a bit too opulent for your taste, but it will suffice. Your elder mind swirls with myriad scenarios this coming encounter can go.

"Ah, Lung Fen Zao. You old bat, you're still healthy enough to make a mess of me, eh?"
There he is, Sesus Kajak, Hero of the Realm, former General of the 12th Legion "Flamehart", 3rd Head of House Sesus.
"Kajak, it was not my intention to make a fool out the honoured House Sesus, but believe me when I say that this deception is necessary.", you replied, fast enough. You're in a disadvantage here, but you can goad him to overreach.
"Ah, ah. Let me go first. Where is Sesus Ulyssian?" He ask, while his bodyguards tensed and ready themselves. Fools.
"He's being punished right now for his extreme foolishness, you may go see him after Calibration." You need to make sure to notify Lil- Nilul to go with this deception.
He relaxed and let his guards stand down. You let your form go back too.
"Truly? What a shame, his parents are already here, waiting for him to do some explanations. Why did you make him masquerade as a mortal for YEARS?"
Ah, this is going somewhere after all.
"It is needed. If he can't compete with the best of the Ten Thousand Dragons without essence usage, masquerading as a mortal, what hope will he have fighting the Anathema by himself?"
"By himself? What foolishness is this? And you expect me to believe that an Exalt that refused his Blessings can do to a Dragon whose wings hadn't clipped himself like that drunk exile?"
"Ah, Uncle, let me explain," This was the Slug, Nagezzar, currently establishing "his" criminal enterprise in Seacrown- and friend to that insulted Immaculate, if you don't misremember. "I wouldn't believe it too, if I hadn't seen him assassinating two ex-Fleet officers Dragonblooded, one Chosen by Hesiesh and the other, Dyliean - a disgraced member of the House, Chosen of Danaa'd and a score of mortal men in one night, under 5 hours, without even a telltale of unconscious essence usage."
"What? Are you sure? Might he not conceal his usage from you, probably with a trick or two?"
"No, Uncle, I have a full complement of sorcerers, astrologists, and statisticians tracking him down that night, trying to find out how he can defeat Beman that day. As far as all can get, is that Ulyssian is a mortal, and all essence usage is by the two aforementioned Exalts. Nothing else."
"How could this be? What kind of bloodline limit do he has?"
They both have moved to stare at you, and you ready yourself to answer-
" ... "

538 words.

Does Unsurpassed Hearing (or Keen Hearing) do anything?

Lets you hear loud noises within (Essence x 5) miles, gives you vibration-hearing (Touch a wall, you can hear people who are talking behind it. Grab a string and lead it to you? You can hear through the string). You gain what amounts to being a "Where's the Exit" power by gaining an unerring sense of airflow, and you gain what amounts to being limited psychometry within (Essence x 5) hours, where you can replay a conversation or event that occured by listening for residual vibrations within the area it happened in--though that last one requires additional Essence, a point of willpower and you to meditate for five minutes at the location.

I don't know if Odyssial is going to redeem anyone. Maybe he can get redeemed. He almost destroyed Creation and nearly depopulated the entire world in his death throes, requiring the direct intervention of the Incarnae to stop. Luna still hasn't recovered all the subforms that he annihilated, and let's not even talk about what happened to the Godspear.
Heartlessness 10, Greatness 10, and forewarning make a hell of a combination. To think that all we had to do to get a shiny sword was nearly destroy the world. Ulyssian may be Odyssial, but he is not yet this Odyssial. Let's try to keep it that way.

Did this also happen with the "canon" Odyssial?

I'd imagine this played a large part in driving the Unconquered Sun to turn his face from Creation, and stop exalting new Solars. Having to aid in the destruction of his greatest Chosen in order to save Creation probably infuriated him.

Greatest Solar huh.
Rihaku, how's Merele? Was she still Queen? Or did our example lead to a, ah, more plutocratic Deliberative?

I imagine Odyssial didn't really care about the Title of Queen, he would have considered it a distraction from training...
B-b-but he did show up in the Deliberative's sessions, right? He didn't just goof off without interacting with his fellow Celestials???

Oh well, it's irrelevant anyway.

Hmm, I wonder if the Immaculates are going to start pestering us, due to our actions against Begman.
"Mortals against the Ten Thousand Dragon"
But aren't you a Dragon yourself, Uly?? Hmm....

He had Pearl and Lea to interact with.
I suppose he might have also sent Lea disguised as him to events he couldn't blow off so he had more time to train which... is almost the same as socialising only more efficient?
But I don't think there were many events Odyssial could be forced to attend anyways.

I'm now imagining Merela being tsundere for Ody: "Fine! It's not like I wanted you at my coronation anyway!" *huffs*.
