I might change my mind later, and I am very interested in those Odyssial memories, but allowing our family to leave without even a word of explanation after this revelation would be incredibly damaging to our already strained relationship. They are highly unlikely to disown Ulyssian due to his status as Zao's successor, but it will make any attempts to network within Sesus and eventually become its head much, much harder. She knows they're unrealistic, she doesn't actually expect you to do them, and, even though it's idealistic, wouldn't it truly be beautiful, as well? Stories are told because they're beautiful, after all.

Also, we folded kind of easily on the 'actually get to hang out with Moon' issue. So we're going to spend six months at the Academy, pointedly not hanging out with Moon?

Nilul is going to be unbearable. And our other friends will probably push, too. What the heck are we going to tell them?

No, Zao "relented" on your not meeting with Moon, he already said that telling the truth was acceptable earlier in the update.

Rihaku, would it be socially acceptable to just stay a few hours in the party and then come back to training and checking on moon having discharged our social obligations? If nothing else, I'd like to reassure and avoid alienating our family too much for now.

Ulyssian is only like that to Nilul because she can take it and she's intentionally acting like that. It's their own special dynamic. Though Ulyssian can be a dick in general. Read what he does to his DB rivals in Form of the Dragon, post #44! He pretends to be mortally wounded from a DB's uncommitted attack, then stabs him in the gut when the DB comes over to check on him.

You may go in with that intention, but the complexities of Dynastic social expectation, as well as your own mediocre social skills and desire not to hilariously offend, would not help you well on that score.

Hm, it could work, but you currently 'only' have the Integrity Excellency and peak human mental resolve. Your Guile is not high, though, so people can detect your Intimacies fairly easily, making it easy to hit you with powerful social attacks. You might have more success by being hair-trigger offended, challenging literally everyone who so much as presumes to insinuate anything to an honor duel, and viciously beating the shit out of them. But that would likely lead to a succession of time-consuming honour duels, and you could well overstay your welcome.
