[X] Some Webweaver Drekin develop a symbiotic relationship with the Boom Blamps by using they legs and silk to form a shock absorbant cocoon and haven around the Boom Blamp that prevents unwanted explosions from triggering. In return the Boom Blamp share their excess energy with the Webweaver Drekin.

One's crisis can be another's power source, and I like to think that the spiders are the ones to come to the rescue against extinction through symbiosis.

In the event that boom blamps do go extinct, the Island Syndrome mechanic could be useful for this.
Maybe a variant of boom blamps that had developed the heat aura, or firing flechettes (and the shock absorbing cocoon prevents them from bursting after firing)

Good idea though I am unsure how that mechanic would work with a non-extinct species becoming symbiotic to a now extinct species.

Also I can see the heat aura blamps also glowing brightly so as to better share the energy in exchange for stability.

consider it thus: they become symbiotic to a not-yet existent species, opening up a niches for the IslandSyndrome!BoomBlamp evo.
That, or the IslandSyndrome!BoomBlamp evo comes into existence, and then this symbiote evolves.

I think we need to ask the QM about this just to be sure. I don't want an assumption on this matter and have everything go sideways.

Well, if Island Syndrome doesn't let you get to symbiotic Boom Blamps immediately, maybe as an intermediary, we can do something along the lines of:

[] At the brink of extinction, some Boom Blamps evolved a buffer between exploding and not. When threatened, these Boom Blamps will start glowing and screeching at the threat. Most monsters will back away at this point, but the few that force the issue will get blown to bits.

Isn't that more of a behavioral change? Maybe the Boom Blamps developed layered explosion chambers where the outer layer explodes off before they are forced to detonate the rest?

[X] Boom Blamps: Instead of exploding the Boom Blamps use the energy to fire a stream of pressurized caustic fluid at threats.

  • [X] Drekin evolve to have more legs so that they can move much faster while also keeping balanced.
[X] Some Splitter Slina begin to draw in prey through suctioned force. By drawing air through one head and expelling it out the other they form a type of cyclone. By splitting one head may direct air away from or towards another to better manipulate their environment
[X] Some Drekin evolved psionic powers, which manifested as telekinesis which helps them repel threats and traverse sticky webbing. To obtain enough food to fuel their powers, these Drekin bargained with colonies of Bridgeweavers to allow them to scavenge dead Blamps in return for using their bulk and telekinesis to help defend the colony from predators.
[X] Boom Blamps: Instead of exploding the Boom Blamps use the energy to fire a stream of pressurized caustic fluid at threats.
[X] Boom Blamps: Instead of exploding the Boom Blamps use the energy to create areas of uncomfortably high heat (for the current monsters) in the area directly surounding them at will.
[X] Some Harpoon Slina develop a new hunting strategy by secreting a sedative from their external tissue layers. It lets them booby-trap hunting perches and webs alike, so that both Drekin, Slina are viable prey. 'Trapped' in a web, they strike when their prey succumbs to the laced webs.
[X] Some Drekin started developing special, silk that consumes energy of prey trapped in it, preventing any chance of escaping as the kinetic force generated is blunted and allowing Drekin to consume exhausted prey with ease. The added bonus, this energy consumptions, prevents Boom Blamps from exploding, as the web consumes the stored energy in Boom Blamp body.

I hope Slina win the next vote. Both Blamps and Drekin are incredible overused. But, I'm just happy Boom Blamps didn't won. Death to Boom Blamps.
How are Drekins overused? With this new species theye have the same number of subspecies as the Slinas.
  1. OG Slina
  2. Harpoon Slina
  3. Splitter Slina
  4. Tether Slina

  1. OG Drekin
  2. Webweaver Drekin
  3. Bridge Weaving Drekin
  4. This new Drekin species

015 (Skittering Drekin)

Skittering Drekin
The Skittering Drekin evolved from Drekin that needed to keep moving to avoid the predation of Harpoon Slina, and the blasts of Boom Blamps. These have developed an additional three pairs of legs as well as a special corded muscle that attaches near the bottom of their legs allowing them to rapidly pull them close to the main body. This allows the Skittering Drekin to flinch and jump in ways other Drekin can not. This allows them to leap onto Blamps, and to move between gusts on the top of the facility. The anchor points of the new muscles and focus on jumping have the Skittering Drekin develop eyes on the top and bottom of their bodies.

The Crawling Blamps large population is easy prey for the Skittering Drekin though the Crawling Blamps can survive even in stronger weather than the Skittering Drekin. The Harpoon Slina find the Skittering Drekin the most difficult prey to hit other than the Jet Blamps. The Boom Blamps have gone extinct, their rapid omnidirectional explosions causing enough issues to their own reproduction that other pressures in the facilities have caused them to die out. Their passing has eased the lives of most creatures in the Facilities as they were rather disruptive.

Finally. Good riddance.

[X] Some Vent Blamps evolved a reinforced internal structure that allows them to withstand the increased pressure of the mid atmosphere layer. This lets them duck into this layer during storms, and with a Tether Slina be essentially independent of the floating ruins.

[X] Some Splitter Slina have adapted to consume the remnants of dead creatures that where not completely eaten by their preadadors, or who died from causes other than predation. This proves a benefit to the facility in the form of cleaning decomposing materials. It also means they don't compete with other predadors for prey.

I think that's the most disturbing creature to come to the facility so far... I love it.

Rest in Peace you little short fuses. You were a pain for literally everyone else around you, but you where also some very cool creatures, and will be missed.

Not as glamurous or interesting as some other mutations, but it's a important part of every ecosystem and i think it would be neat to add that aspect to this one. I would've made then full on Detrivores like earthworms, but i think that might be a bit too much for now.

Can't believe that no one, thought about this before. Good point @Metalbard

[X] Some Webweaver Drekin have turned their legs into helicopter blades that spins around the main torso. Their silk now grows solar powered fruits that they share with others or when attacked explode into goo traps that quickly solidify.

Helicopter spider trees essentially.
