Evermark Underground: RPG Brothel Management

I'm reading through and it's pretty interesting, but the lack of a character sheet (or rather a consistent Brothel sheet or whatnot) makes it hard to follow, when combined with the lack of reiteration of what vote won unless you go back and read page by page.

Ivy 1904
"Filia, did you get the leaflets from Innumerable Aspect?"

She nods. "All bundled up and ready to distribute, Mistress."

"And the ones we were sending to the Succubus Liberation front?"

Edie speaks up. "I made sure they got there myself."

You nod. "Alright then. Edie, how did your search for contacts in the city go?"

"I got in touch with a grocery wholesaler who'd be willing to sell you everything from eggs to artichokes."

You rub your chin. "Sounds like there might be some opportunities there. Good work.

"Now Filia, what about your search along the waterfront? Anything I should be concerned about?"

"Not unless you're concerned about me selling off recipes on the sly. I got in touch with one of the local restaurants."

"Was there anything interesting to find?"

"Not that Edie hasn't already one-upped me on."

"Alright then, we'll move on. Varielle, what about acquiring more stock for the magic shop?"

"I tried to, but nobody would deal with someone who wasn't Guild Licensed. I looked into acquiring one, but they're damn expensive - 500 Æther per year! So I decided to ask you. Should the magic shop get licensed by the magic guild, or not?"

Edie looks at you. "We could always supply the place under-the-table, but people might wonder where all the stock was coming from. Paying the exorbitant fee makes me grind my teeth, but…"

Varielle nods. "It's up to you."

[ ][License] Purchase a Guild License. -50 Clean Æther/month.
[ ][License] Don't buy one.

Your dance with Leah is a familiar routine by now, a smooth rhythm of steps and turns and smiles. You don't comment on your recent date in front of the band, but you do share more than a few knowing looks with Leah.

Eventually, the room fills with the familiar silver mist. But rather than simply dissipate like usual, the silver mist is drawn to your Essence Pearl jewellery, and sinks into it.

When you examine the pearl fragments closely, you find that the setting for your ring is straining against the slightly-bigger jewel inside it.

"I think we may have just found a way to scale up."

I think this should be part of votes. We still have a Scandal of 23, so we might want to tamp that down.

[ ][Intrigue] Talk to the Sharks and get a better idea of what the gang is doing.

I can't remember, have we done this recently? I know they refused before, but...

[ ][Faith] Try to gather more pairs of dancers capable of making Steamborne mist.

Also, this! A religion can't be just two people, if we're going to scale up, we need to... well, scale up.

[ ][Personal] Go to the underground printer's and have some leaflets commissioned.

I wonder if we should perhaps start to cross-pollinate. We introduced three of them to each other, why not the other three to each other, to set up the, like, combined Campaign Leaflet. Or something!

[X] Plan The Times They Are A-Changin'

-[X][License] Purchase a Guild License. -50 Clean Æther/month.
I think this will be a worthwhile investment.

-[X][Fur] Have a fur shawl made. 1 Fur Bolt, 10 Æther.
-[X][Fur] Have a fur coat made. 3 Fur Bolts, 30 Æther.
The dress just sounds tacky, and the hat is too masc for my taste.

Fire and water: a Steamborne dress.

-[X][Jewellery] A Steamborne pendant.
-[X][Jewellery] The Essence Pearl earrings.
Note the new dress won't be done in time for the ball, so we're wearing this with the stars.

-[X][Tactics] Go stand at the buffet table.
Let's see what happens.

-[X][Control] Attend the Merchants' Midsummer Ball.

-[X][Charm] Make a public donation to charity to improve the business' good name. 100 Clean Æther.
I agree with the Laurent on this.

-[X][Intrigue] Make a major under-the-table donation to the cause. 500 Dirty Æ becomes 5 Libertine Favours.
I'm tempted to go for Galero, just because we have more (dirty) money than we know what to do with, but with the recruiting drive on the horizon I want to strengthen our Revolutionary ties.

-[X][Lore] Talk to the magical girl contract magicians and see what they have to say.
We're going to need more information on inscribing Orbite.

-[X][Faith] Try to gather more pairs of dancers capable of making Steamborne mist.
Scaling up!

-[X][Personal] Go to the underground printer's and have some leaflets commissioned.
I really, really want to distribute inter-cause unity leaflets before the recruiting drive. Please.

I lean towards different choices for [Intrigue], [Lore], and [Personal], but I can see it's 6-of-1, half-dozen of the other, so I can roll with your choices.

I would push for a different [Control] option. I think it's time to invest in a Bay Run. Hang out with the established investors and merchants again and invest in a Bay Run seem to go together, and we should get results around recruitment time and getting introduced in court. It would be a nice feather in our cap to be introduced as a successful business-woman and investor.

We also need three fancy dresses to get introduced at court, so we need two more silk designs (I agree with you on no fur dress!)

We're making enough that a Guild License is worth not having to worry about the legitimacy of the Magic Shop.

I shudder to think of a dress only made of furs would look like, though I doubt it's what the option is. Having a couple of shawls and a coat made sound much more appealing.

A dress for the Steamborne Religion, the passion/vibrancy of Red complements the silver gears that symbolize our religion really well.

Like I said last time, I want to see what's inside the mystery box.

This should be our second VIP room on the second story iirc. Further reducing the cost of doing the rest wholesale. Spending 500 clean aether just to get 600 two months later doesn't seem like a good deal to me, I'd rather save up the last bit of money necessary to buy the fish market next door.

While I'd like to look further into the grocery, it's a good idea to work on or scandal/discretion as we approach the recruitment event.

The Sharks were having internal problems last we checked, it's time to see if their problems are going to become our problems. With all the noise that the recruitment event will cause, the last thing we need is for the Sharks to add on to the potential chaos.

The Magical girls helped identify what the essence pearl was, they might have some ideas how best to use them if we aren't going to be selling them to the noble houses.

Speaking of the essence pearls, we can't upscale production with only two pairs of dancers. The side effect is that we'll also have a lot of Steamborne followers who listen to us, which may open possibilities....

Finally, I understand the urge to make unity pamphlets, but we'd end up distributing them either right before, or during the recruitment event. Which already is something where multiple causes are contributing to the revolution as a whole. It would end up just being redundant with everything going on. I'd rather take the time to get a feel for how the Port Authority part of the Sharks is handling the internal divisions, as well as spending our dirty aether on some uncommon/rare items for our operations. That crate of repeating rifles was what made kicking out the Mob possible after all.

This aligns with my interests, I like the dress designs, and it doesn't make any questionable expenditures. I approve!

No joke, 75% of the time making the plan was on this dress. Literal hours spent arguing with myself on which shade of indigo or violet worked better for my mental image until I realized I could just have both colors work together.

Finally, I understand the urge to make unity pamphlets, but we'd end up distributing them either right before, or during the recruitment event.
We'd distribute them next month, when there's one month remaining: so, the month before. Maybe that's what you meant by right before.
Which already is something where multiple causes are contributing to the revolution as a whole. It would end up just being redundant with everything going on.
Are multiple causes already on board? Even if yes, having a unified message and plan could go a long way. The last thing we need is to have everyone tripping over each other's feet.

Are multiple causes already on board? Even if yes, having a unified message and plan could go a long way. The last thing we need is to have everyone tripping over each other's feet.
Libertines, All Faiths, Suffragist, and Innumerable Aspect are all on board, since those are the pamphlets being distributed. Innumerable Aspect has had a whole year to coordinate and plan with the different causes so they don't interfere with each other's efforts. Pushing our own message, one month before it happens, without even seeing what their current plan is, will only cause confusion.

Rider 1904
A few weeks after you submit your order to the tailor's and ship off a large crate of furs and silks, a series of neatly-bundled packages returns. You have them carried up to your personal rooms for you to examine in private.

The first bundle contains your new fur shawl, coal-black and soft as anything. You set it aside for now.

The second holds your fur coat, the same rich black. You slip it on for a moment just to feel the warmth of it, then take it off again. It can wait till winter.

The third package holds the first of your dresses. You stand up and shake it out. Holding it up against your body, you examine the fine detailing of the interlocking gear pattern, a low silver sea that rises just shy of your waistline. An additional cluster of deep red gears marks your sternum, as if you had a mechanical heart. The effect is quite striking, if perhaps a trifle unsubtle.

The second of your dresses is black with pink flowers, a simple abstract pattern that dyes the whole dress in layers of shade and hue. Instead of matching your uniform, the tailor has worked to express the full range possible in the color palette, ranging from deep magenta to the palest blush pink.

The third and last of your dresses is deep violet and indigo, the colors of the night sky applied to dark waves and waters. Though the deep colors bring out each other's hues quite well, when the dress is in shadow it all fades away into darkness. It's a subtle piece, and well-suited to current Court fashion last you heard.

Overall, the shipment is lovely. It's just a question of what to wear first!

"How did the ball go, Estellé?"

"Well enough. I mostly stood at the buffet table and saw who approached me. A few people recognized my Steamborne amulet and came to speak with me quietly, including one of the servants, who knew a remarkable amount about the petty secrets of the richest merchants. I managed to avoid scandal while gathering more favours and blackmail material, so it was one of my better outings in the end."

Holly nods. "Alright."

"The renovations went well on your end?"

He nods. "No issues at all. We're ready to open the new VIP suite."

"That's our seventh, yes?"

"It is."

"Only three left, then?"

"Indeed."

"Keep up the good work."

Holly smiles. "Yes, Mistress."

"Now Edie. What about the charitable donation?"

"It's been delivered."

"Good to hear. Filia, what did the Sharks have to say?"

"The Sharks don't exist anymore, at least not the way they did before. The Sharks are just the sailors now; the street rats and the dockhands have split off, each into their own little gangs again, and they're sniping at each other. There's opportunity there for us, for sure."

You tap your fingers on the table. "I see. We'll have to investigate more. Good job, Filia."

You turn to Varielle. "Now, what about the contract magicians?"

"They were very interested in our gaining access to a stock of essence pearls, and were quick to volunteer to make them into orbites, but they don't know much about manipulating the raw stuff of Essence Pearls themselves. They had one or two inscription techniques, and that's all."

You nod. "While I'm with you, what about the Mage's Guild licence?"

"Done and dusted. I'm ready to start stocking all kinds of unusual items."

"Good. Now Leah, what about gathering more dancers for Essence Pearl production?"

"Well, since each pair has to consist of a fire-type practitioner and a water-type practitioner, so far as I can tell, it's been a bit difficult. We can recruit from the libertines for fire and from the Ceverra for water, but even then finding good pairings is difficult. So far, I've found four pairs."

"Do what you can, Leah. I know you're trying hard."

"Yes, Estellé."

"Well," the Port Authority man says as he opens up the crates, "We don't have much this week, but what we do have, I think you'll like. A large cargo of silk and some very fine jewellery. What do you say?"

[ ][Cargo] A sapphire and silver pendant. 200 Æther.

[X] Plan Getting to Court
- [X] [Cargo] An ammolite pendant, flashing all the colors of the rainbow. 750 Æther.
- [X] [Cargo] A sapphire and silver pendant. 200 Æther.
- [X] [Cargo] A large cargo of 15 silk bolts. 375 Æther.
- [X] [Control] Upgrade the entire second floor to a silken wonderland. 14 Bolts Silk, 140 Clean Æther.
- [X] [Charm] Start targeting and looking for noble clients.
- [X] [Intrigue] Ask that you be introduced to Court. Costs 10 House Galero favours and requires that you both have appropriate attire for Court and know the proper etiquette. You have the influence, you know the etiquette, and you have the wardrobe. You're ready for Court.
- [X] [Lore] Search for more stock for the magic shop.
- [X] [Faith] Try to gather more pairs of dancers capable of making Steamborne mist.
- [X] [Personal] Take time out of your schedule to go on a date with Leah.
With this plan, we should get a good amount of upgrades and scaling up done, along with some kinda needed discretion. I could also argue for passing over the silken wonderland upgrade so that we can spend all our Clean AE on buying out the Fish Market and instead doing a contact search action for Control. I want to keep up our relationship with Leah seriously, even as we ramp up.

Basically what I would have for my plan, other than maybe looking into the various shark splinter factions.
Oh, shouldn't the Sharks option be changed, then? I think what we want is to get the Dockhands and the sailors on our side. The street rats we can recruit last.
The street rats might know some of our former Rats, though I agree that the dockhands and sailors are the most valuable groups pf the splinter factions.

Basically what I would have for my plan
Same, though my except-for would've been making a public donation.

[X] Plan Getting to Court

Could we get an option at some point to look into making time for Leah a part of the regular schedule, with some other cost/tradeoff than taking up the [Personal] slot?
