Even Further Beyond [Complete]

But Cultivator lets you actually punch harder than a mere Cursebearer can, and on top of that it is only moderately less versatile than Diagram Magic, while at the same time being vastly more powerful. Not to mention that being a Cursebearer means we have the power to lay claim to some of the best cultivation resources in the world, which in combination with our prodigious talend should allow for similiarily rapid advances in power as Diagram Magic
Which still doesn't address the issue of one power making other less relevant. At best they will be additive. Meanwhile, Diagram can multiply power of your 4 Orb choice. That's just downright better.

Like, it's not all black-and-white, but one of two is better at being force multiplier. That's about it.

Gonna post a tally really quick so people know where things stand

[X] Young Master (2 orbs) - No one likes being born a loser. Don't worry, we can fix that.
[X] Cultivation (1 orb) - In theory, anyone who has not practiced another form of magic can Cultivate! However, those with the talent to become relevant in battle are far less common. Spending an orb here will ensure a prodigious talent arises within you, the equal or superior of any who live in this age.

[X] The Sword (2 orbs) - The Sign of the Sword grants you the Blood Impulse. You will gain an intuition for physical conflict that well exceeds the humanly possible. This holistic combat instinct explosively accelerates your progress in any martial discipline and renders you immune to violent ambush. Magic is not a martial discipline per se, but differences in fighting skill can compensate for a power gap.
[X] Unnamed - It has been requested that you be stripped of your name. You shall not recall it, not those who knew you in other worlds. You may refer to yourself by a pseudonym or abbreviation, but never a proper name. Names are important to the Divinities, and your lack of one may de-humanize you in their eyes, but tactically speaking this request is harmless. The Divinities loathe to think of themselves as bad people.
[X] Heroic Passions - The maximum valence of your emotions will be greatly expanded, allowing your soul to safely contain more power. However, your notable traits will be exacerbated to tragic proportions. Imagine Achilles sulking in his tent while his countrymen die, or Agamemnon sacrificing his own daughter for favorable winds.
[X] Cursebearer (4 orbs) - Surely I've seen this option before, but I don't recall anything...

-[X] The Bow (1 orb) - The Sign of the Bow grants you a Conquerer's Heart. When you struggle to overcome a genuine enemy and finally prevail, there is a good chance they will become your loyal ally. Boon companions forged from such circumstances may instigate friendly rivalries with you, but would never betray you.
-[X] Immortality (3 orbs) - There are other means to secure longevity, but few as potent and reliable as this one. -[X] An Age of Glory - The world will not have a single savior, but many. A number of great heroes will emerge alongside your opponent, each bearing some unique and unpredictable advantage. While they may have their petty differences, none will be satisfied with a world in decline. You might subvert one or two, but the majority are likely to unite against you.

Oh, man, I'm seriously tempted to make a Scythe-Cursebearer plan on Hard Modo. (in full bloom)
... fuckit, let's do it.

(3 orbs)
-[X] Cursebearer (4 orbs)
-[X] Unnamed
-[X] Talentless

Because since Cursebearers is hard to improve in the first place, the growth rate offered by Scythe is very useful. Talentless because, without picking magic, it's not much of a loss. Unnamed is free and In Full Bloom is hard mode.

[X] An Age of Glory

Unfortunately, we can't pick more than one school of magic without Thrice-Great, so you'll need to drop either Cultivation or Binary Magic.
Spiritual annihilation would be more reliable than physical, yes. If you just destroy her body, Diagram magic at the very least presents a vector of resurrection.
Liches, what can you do? Apart from destroying the phylactery, anyway.

Which still doesn't address the issue of one power making other less relevant. At best they will be additive. Meanwhile, Diagram can multiply power of your 4 Orb choice. That's just downright better.

Like, it's not all black-and-white, but one of two is better at being force multiplier. That's about it.

I'd say that is entirely a speculation. We have no idea how the Cursebearer power we can gain will work. Going by the last quest it might well be something ridiculously abstract instead of just raw physical power. Neither do we know that Cultivation does not have as many force multipliers for said Cursebearer powers as Diagram magics. On top of actually giving us the opportunity to increase our raw power if we need to.

The plan of murder, now with hopefully correct orb usage.

Are we really doing this again?

Why is everyone voting for so many Orbs when it was stated that taking more than 3 makes our enemy stronger as well? Not to mention she benefits from the power up more because destiny and fate are her nominal allies.

We're escalating again for literally no benefit.

I am assuming that there is no one a greater expert than me at bait, at least in this thread. I am the master of bait, of traps subtle and overt, and of laughing at people when they fall for it. So here goes my trap assessment.

Okay, looking at the drawbacks. You ALWAYS check the drawbacks first, so that you can make your budget. Doing otherwise just ends up with a bad build, or trying to justify taking more negative effects so that you can get your perfect build. Green is good. Yellow is bad. Red is that "fuck this shit, I'm out" music video.
  • Unnamed- literally stated to be a free orb.
  • Incarnate- this is a one way train to nopesville, population: literally any xianxia antagonist. Gains may not be exponential, but they certainly aren't logarithmic. We need to maximize our lead time and starting position.
  • An Age of Glory- is a bag full of shit. No way Jose. So to start with you get to fight 4-5 other people who will start power ramping, which means that each one will be more difficult than the last to defeat, if we attempt a defeat in detail. It also masks where our true enemy is, so fuck that shit.
  • Trebly Bound- "Here, obey the race of Leeroy Jenkins". Pass.
  • Heroic Passions- this is an interesting one. It's got downsides, but it's basically like playing a Solar Exalt. Occasionally you hit limit break, and that really sucks, but the trick is making that happen at times other than the worst possible moment. It can be managed, AND this drawback comes with a free power up too.
  • Talentless- No cultivation, in my xianxia? Being an antagonist that relies on an artifact for their personal growth instead of hard work and genius? Ooooh shit no, boi. That's like five red flags.
  • In Full Bloom- literally giving our enemy plot armor, in some Gurren Lagen-esque matroiska abomination. The only reason this isn't red is because maybe we could manage to get the hero to die some suitably appropriate death before she steamrolls us, but that would have to be the literal focus of our entire game.
So here's what we have. No build should exclude Heroic Passions and Unnamed. More posts coming.

Cursebearers are fucking bullshit. End of story. Teleport around the world, beating the shit out of people and befriending them Naruto-style. Trebly Bound kinda sucks the big one, but the elves aren't dicks, so it's probably okay? Just leverage our absurd firepower into threatening an empire to leave them alone.

Yeah, thinking about it this might work better with Trebly Bound as we can tell the faction that the price of our summoning is the birth of seven demons etc.

It interacts better with the tally program if you put '[x]' in front of the word 'plan'

Even better if it's like

[] plan l blah blah
-[] blah
-[] blah
-[] blah

Only with an 'x' inside the brackets.

I'm saying this mostly because I like your plan.

Are we really doing this again?

Why is everyone voting for so many Orbs when it was stated that taking more than 3 makes our enemy stronger as well? Not to mention she benefits from the power up more because destiny and fate are her nominal allies.

We're escalating again for literally no benefit.
Because the Cursebearer can afford to. Few of the choices (Cultivation and maybe the Scales) strike me as really worth it, but the option is there.

Once again, The Bow has a low chance of triggering on any of the non-nemesis heroes from Age of Glory. The options don't synergize as well as you'd think.

Due to this I think I'll try to take a different approach:

[X] Plan: The Summoned Hero
-[X] Limit Break (1 orb) - At the cost of grievous harm to your physical and spiritual corpus, you can temporarily exceed your limits in a situation of great exigency, becoming many times more powerful than you would normally be. Each use dramatically shortens your lifespan. For a normal human, a single minute of use will reduce lifespan by 5-10 years.
-[X] The Sword (2 orbs) - The Sign of the Sword grants you the Blood Impulse. You will gain an intuition for physical conflict that well exceeds the humanly possible. This holistic combat instinct explosively accelerates your progress in any martial discipline and renders you immune to violent ambush. Magic is not a martial discipline per se, but differences in fighting skill can compensate for a power gap.
-[X] Immortality (3 orbs) - There are other means to secure longevity, but few as potent and reliable as this one. Eternal youth and enormously powerful regeneration are yours; you recover from the most grievous wounds in a matter of seconds. This will also preserve your life in the absence of sustenance. Should the Age be ended, however, the conditions of your defeat will still apply.
-[X] Unnamed - It has been requested that you be stripped of your name.
-[X] Trebly Bound - The elves know well that theirs is a nation in decline. In their desperation, they turned to a power they did not fully understand. Should you accept the offer inherent in their summoning ritual, you will be granted one orb's worth of power, but be bound in service to the Elvish state. The pathologically noble elves would never compel you against your free will, but should they fall then so too shall you.
-[X] Talentless - You are unable to perform magic of any kind. You cannot Cultivate, cannot perform Diagram Magic and cannot perform Binary Magic.

I'd say that is entirely a speculation.
I'd say that it's reading what choices say.
We have no idea how the Cursebearer power we can gain will work. Going by the last quest it might well be something ridiculously abstract instead of just raw physical power.
Except we already know it will give us top tier stats at least thanks to Rihaku's comments. In addition, Diagram can act force multiplier to even abstracts shit as we know that temporal acceleration and divination are some of possible spells.
Neither do we know that Cultivation does not have as many force multipliers for said Cursebearer powers as Diagram magics. On top of actually giving us the opportunity to increase our raw power if we need to.

Except Diagram is explicitly singled out as one being a force multiplier while Cultivation is raw power one. Pretending that later is being better at being a force multiplier than former is just silly.

Taking Diagram with Cursebearer is just a better option.

the growth rate offered by Scythe is very useful. Talentless because, without picking magic, it's not much of a loss.
Well Scythe mentions this
*Skills cannot be acquired in this manner, but talents can. However, the Scythe alone does not allow you to practice multiple schools of magic - you could gain the relevant attributes, but would be unable to use them.
Which seems to say that if we picked Talentless we'd be locked out despite stealing schools worth of magic, so that would go against its full potential.

I mean I'm all for having a build around Cursebearer levels of starting firepower combined with Scythe's ability to steal from enemies killed, with the added benefit that it means that our kill on the one we're trying to kill is final when it happens since Rihaku already said that mere physical body death isn't enough with Diagram magic running around. The trick is figuring out how to pay for it all without screwing over the synergy or shooting ourselves in the foot like Full Bloom does.

[X] Plan I'm Totally an Elf Lord
-[X] Thrice-Great
(4 orbs)
-[X] The Scales (2 orbs)
-[X] Unnamed
-[X] An Age of Glory
-[X] Trebly Bound

After thinking about it, and from what Rihaku said I like this option. We have the Scales to prop the Elven Nation up and hopefully tie their fate to the other Empires to mitigate the drawback.

We have the Scales to talk our way out of fights in the short term, and Thrice Great to maximize our Long Term. Time Dilation + Cultivation equals Optimization ( it even rhymes so you know it must be true!)

Age of Glory, but with Scales hopefully we have a chance to subvert one or two of them making things about equal with our Rival.

I find Scales the most interesting sign, though I'm sad to only have 1. Suppose it means I could take less drawbacks but, instead, I'll take more because I'm quirky like that. :p

I didn't particularly want the other magic types but it kinda fits with being bound to the elves, which I think could be quite interesting.

Except when it's not. Our ultimate enemy if we take Cursebearer isn't the ridiculous Sister, it's all those fucking Divinities playing with our lives. Diagram is cool and all, but it's not getting us to that tier of power, unlike Cultivation.

Maximizing long-term potential with the option that is stated to be at least three orbs of power in expected return, and the option that will allow us leverage potentially broken synergies between magic systems seems like a solid overall plan to me, especially given that we are stated to have decades to centuries to get our feet under ourselves before our enemy shows up, which should be plenty of time to start leveraging our potential, especially looking at some the suggestions that Rihaku gives us in the Thrice-Great section, like the parabolic time-chamber to accelerate cultivation.

It looks like a vote with 3 Orbs is not going to win and this is the vote with the least amount of Orbs that is closest to my choice. So lets go for it.
