IMO whatever's going on is a bad idea. I want no part of it lol, I'd be happy to get a blue ball and stay back in the nice safe Sect.
A yellow is better than red, since it gives us time to prepare, and a blue is best of all. Just going straight to red when we have no idea what the reward is, is a bad idea.

Va isn't outer, she's a core, which means she's in discussions with leadership on her assignment.
Drawing lots like this implies to me they need manpower and don't care much about quality - which speaks to me of war, experiments, or something else quite risky.
I wonder how much the prep work we did actually mattered.

Then I think we should join early, Va needed those potions quickly, if she was planning on staying back a bit she wouldn't need them so quickly. If we join early and stay with her group, then our chances of surviving go up rather than waiting it out and getting assigned a random group.

It also gives anyone who goes immediately a six-month leg up on securing positions and capitalising on whatever's there, while leaving us with exactly the same amount of knowledge of what we're walking into (none). The middle path is the worst of the three - it means we don't get to take advantage of the positions opened up to those left with the sect, but all the best ones with the Envoys will have been taken by the time we get there. We have a 1 in 3 chance of going in the first wave anyway, so we may as well volunteer and have a leg up on all the (many) people who get assigned a red ball by lottery.
In xianxia settings, this rule remains fairly reliable: first mover advantage is real, and the fastest growth comes from the path of the greatest risk. Challenge the unknown, and conquer it. A decent plan executed now (with advantage) is better than a good one executed in six months, especially when that one will still lack information on what we're planning for. Bet on our ability to hit the ground running and adapt faster than anyone else. Don't fuck around being cautious or taking the safe path - a cultivator's way is to defy the will of Heaven.

I think this is bodies for war at best. Especially considering the benefits aren't being given, that implies they aren't really benefits, but 'benefits'.
My only real question is if they're going to nuke the sect on the way out or not.
