Element Broadcast #55 Dark Souls 2 #17
Shulva is a bitch. Well no, actually Shulva isn't to bad once I found out those glowing obelisks are switches. Because those first two things you can raise will pop up and do 700 damage each to the undead right next to their spots. And knock a few off into the abyss. So, that made the first section much much easier. And in the process I found a +7 long bow so that was pretty cool. I switched out my greatbow for it because sniper duels keep happening and I needed the faster fire rate and lower stamina cost to better dodge between shots.

Anyways, it took me a bit, but I managed to clear the area out and get all the items. Of which there were quite a lot and quite a few look pretty useful. If not particularly useful for this one section. Though the +1 poisonbite ring is useful given the poison mist sanctum guards in the Dragon Sanctum Section. Which is where the real bitch of a thing starts happening. This is an annoying long slog between bonfires here unless I somehow missed one. And the damn ghost knights sure as hell aren't helping.

Fortunately, once you corporealize them once they stay corporeal. Of course the real bitch, is when I run into a second pair of them later on in the spike fields, and there's no cursed armor to shoot to make them tangible in sight. So that was an unpleasant surprise to say the least. Oh well.

Also, I had brief terrifying flashbacks to the black gulch when I saw the poison statue clusters, which got even worse once they didn't break and it turned out they were mobile. But that soon passed once I figured out I just had to shoot the lizard they were growing on. And I could do that from a safe distance.

Element Broadcast #56 Dark Souls 2 #18
So I wasted the first half or so of this session with a mix of farming spiders for souls to buy arrows, and using a soul vessel to respec to caster. Just to give it a whirl and pick up some items. Turns out the Shulva guys are highly resistant to magic. So, I respecced back to SWOLE. And then died some more. I'm basically done with the Dragon Sanctum til I'm like a hundred levels higher or something. I dunno. Just sick of it.

So, I popped over to Belfry Sol, and apparently Belfry Sol doesn't have a boss and ringing the bell doesn't appear to do anything. Had a few items, but nothing interesting. So, with all that done, I decided to give the Iron Keep another shot. Turns out, its not to bad once you decide to stop trying to sword everything. Abusing the various traps and plinking things to death with arrows when they can't get you back, works wonders. Now, I probably could have beaten the Iron King, but it was getting late and after he death beamed me into the lava, combined with me just getting fed up with everything about this game earlier, I decided to call it. So, next stream will open with round 3 against the Iron King and hopefully that'll be the last round.

Element Broadcast #57 Dark Souls 2 #19
Well, I'm starting to make progress again now that I decided to ignore the first set of DLC. I'll probably go back to it later, but for now progressing through the main portions of the game is what I shall be doing. So, it only took me two more tries to beat the Iron King which when combined with last night meant 4 tries total. Honestly, it probably should have only been 2, but I got blasted into the lava by his fire beam on my second try, and on the third try, like a complete dumbass I dodge rolled right into the lava.

Met some weird something when I lit the primal bonfire after the king. I think he's supposed to be the titular scholar but I never got a name, so I don't actually know for sure. I'll wiki it after this probably. But let me tell you it was a bit of a shock meeting him because the bonfire fucking exploded as part of his appearance.

Anyways after that chat I briefly stopped by the Doors of Pharos, and technically fought the boss there, but I wasn't in the mood to really deal with a giant rat, so I decided to you know ignore that for the time being and go on to Drangleic Castle. It's an awfully long journey from the crossroad bonfire to the first Drangleic bonfire. But fortunately I only had to make the trip three times.

So, the throne room despite being covered in bloodstains does not appear to have any enemies, so either that's a popular PVP spot, the enemy doesn't spawn til NG+, or I gotta trigger it in someway. I'll guess I'll find out eventually. Or maybe not. If its a NG+ thing I probably won't.

Anyways, down into the basement, I find an interesting place full of god damn Ruin Sentinels. So, that was a bit of a shock. Not to bad in a 1v1 situation, but they respawn and the doors they were stuck behind remain open. So, with all the doors open making it a 1v1 is somewhat difficult. Anyways, past that room there's a bit of a slog up to the Queen's chambers. Most notable thing on the way there was the fact that her portrait appears to be cursed. So, that's not ominous at all. Certainly doesn't help that it sounded like she was convincing me to kill the king. Which didn't happen because it was in fact a bit of a slog on the way up there and I only had like 3 estus left, so I didn't want to start a boss fight. I probably won't start the session with that either, there was a hole on the other side of the Ruin Sentinel room, that I'm thinking of dropping down first.

Element Broadcast #58 Dark Souls 2 #20
Little by little Dark Souls 2 is crushing my will to live. I don't know why Dark Souls 2 is just so much worse then Dark Souls 1 but it is. Well, I can name stuff in the game that is worse then DS1, the why I don't know in this case being why they made so many terrible decisions with this game. Nothing particularly new in this session is making me say this, I'm just getting so fed up with the game.

-sigh- Of course despite my bitching I actually made some decent progress tonight. I took out the dual dragonknights after only three tries, and then proceeded to die four times to a non-boss Bell Gargoyle. And then proceeded to die at least a half dozen times against the Looking Glass Knight, because apparently that fucker can turn in midair. Also, the dodge roll and his swings interacted a bit funky a couple of times. Like I ended up sort of teleporting in a direction I didn't want to. Though I think it was in effect more that my dodge roll I frames kept me from taking damage but the sword still moved me. Which reminds me I really do need to look up how the I frames on rolling in 2 compare to the I frames on rolling in 1.

Anyways, I also met cripple evil gandalf again. And well that stupid pilgrim of the dark stuff is bullshit. Ignoring the fact that I need to burn an effigy everytime I want to go back to the Chasm, ignoring the fact that the Havel phantom respawns, but I can't ignore the fact I have to deal with his dialogue every god damn time. If you're gonna make the game kill me so much, don't make it such a waste of time to get back to the getting killed parts. And of course it defaults to the no option, which means if I mash A too much I have to start the dialogue over again.

Anyways anyways, I think I am in fact going to have this be the final session of Dark Souls 2 for a while. And my RAM hasn't gotten here yet, so I'm either gonna do Dishonored, or maybe I'll take DS1 for a spin again. But probably not. I don't think I'm gonna be in the mood for Dark Souls for a while.

So my RAM arrived today, and well took me a bit to get it all installed properly, but hey now I got 12 GB of RAM which means I can now run DOOM. So yes, I am streaming that. However, despite having plenty of RAM now my graphics card isn't quite entirely up to the task, so I keep dropping in FPS. So lag will be a problem. But fuck it, its DOOM.

Element Broadcast #59 DOOM (2016) #1
Well, this was a short stream. Not because the game crashed or anything or even because it wasn't fun. But I think as a side effect of me having to turn the resolution way down, I don't think Steam Broadcasting was working properly. I normally have it set up so I can shift tab to check the stream itself, but whenever I did it while running DOOM it was a static menu screen. From about whenever I started up the stream. Maybe Steam Broadcast can't handle weird resolutions like 5:3 because that was what I was running because that seemed to be the best I could get without dropping below 30 FPS. So yeah, not gonna be hitting 60 FPS anytime soon.

Which is fine, while I would certainly prefer better resolution and higher graphics, when it comes to DOOM, if you have to choose between speed or image quality, you gotta pick speed. This needs to be played fast. And once I got things running at 30 FPS above even if I wasn't a fan of the squashed screen it was still pretty fun. I'll try to finagle around tomorrow to see if I can get broadcasting working properly with DOOM, but if not, I'll be doing Dishonored next stream.

Element Broadcast #60 Dishonored #14
Huh. It has been 45 streams since my last dishonored stream. Now I wish I had kept to my daily stream schedule well enough that it was also only 45 days since I last played Dishonored. But that certainly isn't the case as evidenced by how terribly I've been doing. Though some of that isn't quite because of getting rusty, some of that's because Daud's powers don't quite work the same as Corvo's and I also set the difficulty higher. Its the same difficulty I did for my high chaos run as Corvo, but pretty sure low chaos runs are just more difficult in the first place.

Either way, I had attempted to refamiliarize myself with the game by opening the session with the first two city trial DLC missions. Which wasn't bad, but it does leave me baffled on the scoring between the two missions I did. So the first one is you collect 4 clues to find your assassination target. And you lose points for being seen, or collecting all the clues, or taking to long, and killing anyone but your target is an instant loss. As sheer dumb luck, on my second go I just rushed the first guy I saw in timestop and killed him, and he was the target. So that got me a pretty high score but not 3 whole stars. Merely two.

But then on the loot everything mission without being spotted more then three times with penalties for killing guards or the like, I only collect 2/3rd's of the loot, kill a guard or two, get spotted once, and somehow still manage 3 stars. Despite all around just doing worse then I did on any of my assassination trials that succeeded. Oh well.

Anyways, on to the actual story DLC as Daud. It was interesting to see the intro bit from his perspective. In particular the Spy Master intentionally delaying the guards. That bastard. From there quick chat with the Outsider, and then we're off to investigate a boat called the Deliah because of said chat. I gotta say, I really miss loot vision and being able to see people through walls. Maybe I should have saved that first rune instead of grabbing super jump because then I'd have level 2 void gaze. It probably would have kept me from dieing like a dozen times already. Because I'd have actually seen people instead of running right into them.

Element Broadcast #61 DOOM (2016) #2
I am super glad the Vulkan thing is working so well. Sure, I had some bad bits of lag here and there, but the 16:9 is so much better then the 5:3. Especially since it means Broadcasting is working properly. Not that I had many people watching tonight but that's fine. I'm used to it at this point.

Of course I don't quite know why I'm doing this as a streaming thing. Since typically this is supposed to be for my first run of a game. And well, this isn't my first run of DOOM 2016. So like I dunno, I've already had most of my thoughts about the game and what not. Though I suppose I haven't quite actually shared them.

So, anyone who's been following my tumblr has almost certainly seen DOOM stuff from me more then a few times both classic and new. So yes, I do love this game. Its great its amazing and well ok its not flawless, but still. Its just a damn fun time. Even if it does start dragging near the tail end of the game, once you have a full arsenal and its just arena fight after arena fight.

I suppose I don't actually have much of interest to say that hasn't already been said about DOOM by more well known people. Doomguy has a great character that he expresses without uttering a single word. The gameplay is great, and the story is actually pretty good as well.

Its odd to some degree I actually think the story is the most notable thing about the new DOOM. Like its not the focus or anything but its well done enough and from the people that originated the line "Story in a video game is like story in pornography." (Though now that I say that, I don't think the guy that said that still works there) But its pretty solid and engaging which is probably the most surprising aspect of the new DOOM. Sure, there's not many characters, and there's no real complexity, though there is some moral ambiguity with DOOMguy just smashing all the Argent production and Hayden getting annoyed because the human race needs that energy. I suppose maybe it doesn't count because the player doesn't have any real choice there. But still.

Anyways, on to where I am in my second playthrough. I started in the first hell level, and finished in the level right after that. The first hell level is where you start hearing the Slayer Testaments which are one of my favorite things in the game. Because its basically Hell telling the legend of Doomguy now named Doom Slayer. And its great. Maybe some people find it cheesy or narmy or whatever, but I straight up love it. From the voice to the content, to finding those little stone magic tablets. This is also where you can first get the chaingun, which I grabbed before the first mod drone appeared too.

Actually speaking of the mod drones, it kind of saddens me that Doomguy punches them. They're just cute little floating helping robots, he doesn't have to be mean to them. Oh well, anyways I grabbed the turret mod on this playthrough and it is amazing. From the activation animation to the amount of death it spews. Its just great. The amount of ammo it burns through is less thrilling, and it'll be a while til I can get the rune that basically negates that concern, but oh well. Oh I also missed a secret here to my annoyance. It was close to the start and the route ended up sealed behind me. Or something. Same thing ended up happening in the destroyed argent facility to my annoyance. Oh well, I'll revisit both later.

Only a few notable things happened in said destroyed facility. The first one is I got siege mode for the Gauss cannon, which is also fucking amazing. The next thing is there was this one revenent that I shot with the supershotgun right after he leaped onto screen and he ended up glitching through the floor and then vanished entirely. It was kind of hilarious.

Oh, and I do like the little forensic hologram thing DOOM does to lead you to stuff. It's may not be particularly useful, but its still kind of neat. You get a hologram demon and a hologram human and the demon kills said human and then drags their corpse with a keycard off somewhere. And its just sort of a neat touch of sharing how bad the demons are for non Doomguys and leading you where you need to go.

Element Broadcast #62 DOOM (2016) #3
Short session today. I could have kept streaming for like maybe an hour longer, but given how long it takes me to scour an entire mission in DOOM, I probably would have gone over that so I called it. Not that I really had anyone watching at that point anyways. But oh well.

There's not really much to say. I did the ARC level, missed one of the doomguy figures. Blew myself up a couple of times by accident and once on purpose because I accidentally used the berserker power up before I activated the gore nest.
Oh, I shot Dr Samuel Hayden and he gave zero fucks about it. Which was amusing. I honestly, think Hayden might be my favorite character in this game. I mean sure I love the Doom Slayer and he's fucking awesome. But like you don't see reasonable mad scientists. Sure he's somewhat responsible for this entire situation, but like he acknowledges it, and still helps Doomguy out even after Doomguy pisses him off by screwing over the Argent Tower.

There's no "YOU RUINED ALL MY LIVES WORK NOW DIE" its "Well, my lives work might have ended up dooming us all, so while I don't agree with this, we still have more pressing concerns and I won't hold it against you. Because you might be right."
I suppose it also helps that instead of just getting a normal sized robot body when he deal with his brain cancer he decided to get a ten foot tall robot body of doom instead. Dude has good taste. The fact that it might have also been just to add drama to flipping a giant switch to turn on the argent tower is icing on the cake. Point is while he might end up being the antagonist in the sequel, I still think he's pretty cool.

Element Broadcast #63 DOOM (2016) #4
So, I'm not making as fast as progress as I was hoping. Between the slowly scouring the levels for 100 percent completion the occasional game freezing/crashes, and the fact that I keep dieing, its been kind of slow. I was hoping to do Lazarus and titan tonight, but only got Lazarus done. Upside unlike the last two levels I actually got 100 percent completion on this one. So woot. Part of me wants to drop the difficulty down a notch just to speed things up, but I'll be sticking with ultraviolence. Maybe I'll do a nightmare run at some point, but probably not an ultra nightmare run. Having to go back to the start everytime I accidentally blow myself up would be a biiiitttcccchhhh. I just don't have the patience for that.

Anyways, I successfully resisted the urge to use a glitch I saw from a speedrun to cheese the fuck out of the cyberdemon fight. See, apparently the BFG 9000's plasma streams that burst off the main ball of doom will constantly do damage in real time even if game time has been slowed down by popping open the weapon wheel. Which must be hilariously abuseable, and I'll probably just replay a boss level, just to pull that off. But I'm going to stick to legitimately beating the game on ultraviolence first before screwing around like that.

Element Broadcast #64 DOOM (2016) #5
Gauss Cannon OP nerf plox. I just destroyed the dual hell guards because of it. Did ridiculous amounts of damage when I had them both lined up in a siege mode blast. I didn't even need the BFG. Just melted them down so fast. It was great. Also the super shotgun was hella useful against the single hell guard. Getting both shots off while its shield was down point blank was great. Because using the lock on burst for the rocket launcher ended up burning through all my rockets without getting very far.

Anyways, I think I finished getting all the Slayer Testaments now. Which is great. What is also great is the fact that one of the levels literally takes place in a demonic kaiju called The Titan, whom Doomguy killed. Before he got his fancy demon magic power armor. Like the only thing that could make that better is if we got to fight a Titan in game. But alas, we do not. If they make story or single player DLC I really hope that a Titan fight would be part of it. I also did one of the classic levels real quick. Its odd not having any mods or argent upgrades. And I can totally see why I've seen mention that playing those can be the hardest part of the game.

Hmmm. I still haven't given multiplayer a shot yet. I might do that soon. Maybe Wednesday? I think I should be finished with the campaign during tomorrow's stream. Hopefully I won't get hit with lag spikes during multiplayer.

Element Broadcast #65 DOOM (2016) #6
Spider Mastermind Dead. Gauss Cannon still OP. Rich Gets Richer even more OP. Quad Damage with the previous two mentions maximum OP. Hell laid to waste once again! Hayden, kind of a dick, but still can't really hate him. Vega sadly dead. Sorta. Doomguy made a back up. So we might be seeing his return if a sequel ever happens. And a sequel better fucking happen. Because I love this fucking game and I want a second one damn it. Well I suppose more like sixth one I suppose. Doom 1 Doom 2 Doom 64 Doom 3 Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil, DOOM (2016). Sorry I guess I meant seventh one. Which reminds me I never did beat Doom 3. I might stream that sometime. Not next though.

Anyways, nothing really interesting to say at this point. Maybe I should have read some of the lore entries again. I remember those being pretty neat. And pretty sure I unlocked them all. Hmmm I'll do that later and maybe post a non stream summary about them at some point. Oh and I missed all the secrets in the final level, except for one. So, gonna revisit that at a later date but probably not going to stream it.

I did admittedly stream a second run of the Vega mission because I had missed like all the secrets in that as well. But meh. Though on my second run something weird happened. I'm pretty sure I killed all the demons in the cooling area but the game didn't register it or maybe one glitched into someplace I couldn't find it, and well almost got stuck there. But by using Gauss canon recoil and double jump I managed to get out and continue the level anyways so that was neat.

Element Broadcast #66 DOOM (2016) #7
So, I took multiplayer for a spin today. After a really annoying moment where the game basically had to relaunch itself entirely to start multiplayer, actually playing it was kind of fun. Like general reception of the multiplayer was terrible so I was pleasantly surprised it was as entertaining as it was. That's not to say I think a lot of those criticisms were wrong per say. Because yeah its not what I'd expect from DOOM multiplayer. Or what I'd particularly want either I suppose.

It's definitely very call of duty with the load-outs, albeit heavily simplified loadouts. But I suppose since I don't really play Call of Duty except for the occasional free weekend on Steam this sort of multiplayer isn't as stale or overdone to me as others are. The demon runes are pretty cool though if maybe a little too powerful. But they're still probably the neatest thing about the multiplayer.

Anyways, I think this is going to be my last DOOM stream for a while. As tempting as it is to stream an ultra nightmare run, I probably won't be going anywhere very fast in that, and I'm not looking forward to dealing with that. So, I'll be going back to the Daud Dishonored DLC next stream, and from there who knows. Feel free to voice suggestions.

Element Broadcast #67 Dishonored #15
So bit of a short session tonight. Partially because I didn't have many watchers but mostly because my friends were bugging me to join them in Overwatch. So once I finished the butcher mission I killed the stream. Nothing really interesting to say about it I guess. Got as comment from Billie about going soft because I'm not murdering people, and can't say that I don't feel like that's not really true to what I already know of Daud, but I gotta do low chaos runs. That's just how I roll. I'll probably like with the main campaign do a high chaos murder everyone run later.
