Element Broadcast: Currently Livestreaming: Command and Conquer Red Alert 3

I don't really feel like streaming at the moment so no stream tonight. Not that as far as I can tell anyone here actually watches the streams. Like do I just run them at a time no one can watch them? Or do most of you just prefer reading the summaries to watching someone actually play and react in real time? I'm fine with that, but if like you want to watch and I'm just not streaming at a good time for you, I'm willing to adjust when I stream.

Monday didn't happen because still wasn't feeling it, tuesday didn't happen because watching a friend stream/caught up reading fanfics/fuck this election. And today isn't happening because I just got my wisdom teeth pulled and there's basically no way in hell I'm gonna be understandable over my mike tonight. We'll see about Thursday.

Ok. I know its been a while. But while the painkillers had made the wisdom tooth extraction mostly bearable, I hadn't really been feeling it. And then I had to leave town for three days for Thanksgiving. And then my sleep schedule was screwed up. But now now I'm ready to start streaming again tonight.

Oh, also I was stuck grinding in Warframe to get the Soma Prime before it was vaulted. That was a huge hassle.

Kind of a short session. Especially considering how long its been since I last did a stream but oh well. I'm tired, and doing side quests in ME is kind of dull and boring. Maybe I should just skip to doing the story stuff. Decisions for later.

Nothing much to really say today. Other then those captured scientists being held by the biotic terrorists be tripping balls man. They be tripping mad balls. …Honestly, not a fan of the fact that my only option is to apparently leave them unsupervised while I report back to Hacket. I mean sure logically speaking Shepard probably brings them up to the Normandy to get the doc to check them over, but there's no indication of that happening in game. -shrug- Oh well.

So after a brief stop by the Citadel again to send the crazy Shepard fan back home and screwing over Schells I headed out to Virmire to move the main plot along again. Which leads to something quite annoying.

Apparently, there's no option to save the genophage cure. It's either talk Wrex into letting us destroy it or kill him. What the god damn hell. Seriously what the fuck. Saren has the cure, we should totally have been allowed to jack it and bring it back before blowing the lab to kingdom come. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Anyways, I suspect anyone who's actually been following this knows the next major choice to be done here went down. Kaidan or Ashley who did I save and who did I leave to die. To possibly no one's surprise here I left Ashley behind. Admittedly after apparently accidentally romancing her. Whoops. Oh well, she dead now so it doesn't matter.

Also, I finally got to meet Sovereign. Wheeeeee. Damn evil robot. If organic life was so wrong it wouldn't keep popping back up every-time you turned your back on the galaxy for more then 50 millennia. I suspect I can't do shit to Sovereign in this game which annoys me. Oh well. Also sadly, that boss fight with Saren ended with him running away before the nuke went off. I honestly thought I was going to be able to kill him then after the 'reveal' that Sovereign was the actual big bad.

So had a chat with the team after finishing up Virmire. Basically no one talked about Ash's death except Kaidan and Joker. And I'm still annoyed at the fact that I had to choose between killing Wrex or talking him into being ok with ensuring the slow death of his species instead of saving the cure. Seriously that's just messed up. How is talking a dude into killing his own species a paragon thing to do?

Anyways…. get back to the citadel and surprise surprise they lock down the Normandy and refuse to let me go to Ilos. And Udina is helping them. Those dicks. Upside, get to set things up to have Andersen punch Udina. That was nice.

Of course instead of going straight to Ilos with my now stolen ship, I'm faffing about doing some more side quests. Which in this case is a ship inhabited by a crazy biotic who killed the rest of the crew because they wanted to pull the plug on someone who was braindead. And recovering Wrex's ancestral armor. Which is apparently a piece of shit according to him but he's still happy to have it back.

Part of me wants to just do Garrus's mission with the mad doctor, but I think I'm gonna try to complete the rest of the side quests anyways before heading to Ilos. As boring as it might be.

Considering what the cure amounted to and how things are with the krogan as far as the first game goes, it was probably for the best.
The overall catchphrase/description/whatever of the council and/or most people's opinion of them.

This game is making me despise mountains. Just god damn so annoying to drive through the really mountainous stuff with the mako. You go all over the place, and its so slow. Just really annoying all around.

Anyways no plot progression to speak of occurred in this session. I'm just trying to clear out all the side quests and shit before going to Ilos even though its boring. So boring. Though at least one had an actual person to interact with. Albeit an idiot evil scientist. I mean come on, what the hell made you think it was a good idea to fight, when my team just plowed through the Thorian creepers that had you and company holed up wishing for rescue. How much more blatant does it need to be that you wouldn't be able to win that fight. And yet you still went through with it because you didn't want to get jailed. Dumbass. Anyways, given the fact I've heard like nothing of ExoGeni on the net when ME is discussed I'm becoming convinced they're just a front company for Cerberus.

And speaking of Cerberus for some reason, the game was blaming them for a Geth attack on a colony. Like it was baffling because zero indication that they were involved and then you get the line "Cerberus will pay for this" or something to that effect. Sure, I wouldn't be surprised if they were involved, but it seems odd to jump to blaming them when the Geth are a much more likely cause.

Speaking of geth, I just cleared them out of the armstrong system. And when I did they apparently broadcasted a musical performance back to the Veil for some reason. I guess it was supposed to be a "Welp we all dead" signal, but it seems odd that it was a performance by a biological singer. -shrug-

Oh? There wasn't really any indication about the cure being a double sided sword beyond the fact that Saren was trying to breed a slave army of krogan. Like remove that from the equation and you only have to deal with normal krogan shit. Which I suppose might be something most people don't want to deal with, but it still bugs the hell out of me so many of them are a ok with condemning the krogan to a slow extinction.

Lets just be grateful it can traverse them in the first place. Then again this might be one of the reasons Shepard's driving ability is talked about the way it is later.

To be fair, the geth don't really seem like the kind of people who can do a musical performance. And the reason as to why they chose this may or may not become obvious in the sequel when/if you get there.

To be fair, normal krogan problems are the reason the genophage was made in the first place, and the only one that seems to have learned from that mistake is Wrex, and I think even he's a bit jaded when comes to his people. Still, there's a redemption for them somewhere.

Element Broadcast #37 Mass Effect 1 #14
So after a long long boring slog of planet after planet I'm done with all of the side quests except the valuable resources one. Apparently I'm missing 4 light metals, but fuck it. I'm not revisiting planets to find deposits that I missed. Next session is gonna open with me going to Ilos to get this game over and done with. Because honestly, I've been getting more and more annoyed with the game as I've played it.

Anyways, one of the side missions I did was Garrus's little thing with Doctor Saleon. And well that was underwhelming, but really that seems to be the normal for these things. I talk Garrus down from killing the dude, and then he tries to resist arrest. So we gotta kill him anyways. Oh well.

More notable side quests were the rachni attacking listening posts and Major Kyle and his biotic cult. The Rachni thing was ridiculous because so many god damn rachni every fucking where. Fortunately, I am a tanky ass motherfucker so even as Liara and Tali died repeatedly I just kept on trucking. And once again further proof that Cerberus is shit. I am not looking forward to ME2 given my understanding of Shepard being forced into working for Cerberus in that game.

The Biotic cult was interesting I suppose. Especially since "Father" Kyle was not biotic himself. Hopefully most of them can you know readjust to no longer being in a cult, instead of trying to keep furthering the cults believes. But I think my biggest annoyance with this was, I brought Kaidan along, and he didn't get a single line. You'd think an Alliance Biotic soldier would have something to say about an Anti-alliance biotic cult, or vice versa. But nope.

They get better about having companions chime in on certain quests and such in 2, sometimes it even gets its own little conversation.

Yeah, ME1 is far from polished compared to the next two games. ME2 has fewer side quests, for example, but they take place in unique locations which I found preferable to the copy-paste change of color scheme.

Since I'm anticipating only 1 or 2 more sessions till Mass Effect 1 is finished up, I figure I might as well share the fact that instead of jumping into ME2 right away, I'm probably going to start up Dark Souls 2. I get that Mass Effect 2 is overall better then Mass Effect 1, but I'm still just kind of fed up with the game.

So Dark Souls 2 should be a nice palette cleanser even if its considered weaker then Dark Souls 1. Hopefully it won't take me half as long to beat DS2 as it did for me to beat DS1. After that I'm either gonna start up Mass Effect 2 or go back to Dishonored to do the Daud DLC stuff that I never bothered to do first time around.

Or I suppose I might alternate between Dishonored and Dark Souls 2. Nothing says I have to only stream the same game til I'm done with it.

That's understandable, yeah. Still, I'll keep an eye out for when you do get around to ME2.

One other thing, but a bit late now: the Mass Effect games are infinitely more enjoyable when played as a female Shepard. The difference in voice acting quality is staggering.

Element Broadcast #38 Mass Effect 1 #15
Well, that was fun. Game beat. Woot. And in a nice pseudo round 15 sessions too. Would have preferred 10 or 20, but 15 is a decent number. The final mission wasn't as long as I was expecting it to be, but I did correctly guess that it was the final mission so yay. I'll probably read through the codex and stuff in a non stream session to get some more info on the setting. Because I pretty much ignored that during my streams. Gameplay is boring enough that I don't think what few viewers I had would appreciate me just reading.

Anyways, got plenty of juicy info from Vigil on the way to the final battle. Got some more info on the keepers that was never obtained from doing all the scans. The Keepers were a reaper plot all along! Probably should have seen that coming the moment it was revealed the Citadel was a Reaper thing. But I wasn't really thinking of the keepers til they came up again.

Still no answer on why the reapers are doing what they are doing which is annoying. So I guess I have to play 2 or 3 to get that answer. Oh well, I can wait. Or google it. Probably wait. Oh and the statures on Ilos were just creepy. And the cryopod thing was kind of dark too. Poor protheans.

Now as for the final confrontation with Saren, it amuses me darkly that I get paragon points for talking Saren into committing suicide. Not that it admittedly stopped Sovereign from turning him into a super husk for the final boss battle. Which was annoying. I did have to use a med kit, but overall I was so tanky I was at no risk of losing, but he was hoping around like crazy so much it was quite difficult to actually shoot the bastard.

I somewhat regret saving the council after seeing how many ships got blown up in the process, but at the same time, I don't like the idea of humanity replacing the council in full, which is my understanding of what would have happened if I had picked the other options. ME2 ought to be interesting with Andersen on the council now though. But that will have to wait. Since, I think I shall be playing Dark Souls 2 tomorrow for my stream instead of starting up Mass Effect 2.

Well you are using a paragon option after all, though it's still a matter of what side of him you're appealing to get Saren to shoot himself, otherwise you'd have to kill him yourself and THEN fight the Sovereign controlled super husk.

As usual, renegade and paragon apparently play a role in this despite what may happen. More renegade? Udina intends to do exactly that. More paragon? The other species will still have their say, but it's the humans that will be at the head of the new council.

Whether you still regret this or not when you start playing two is another matter, as I believe it's a few points in it that cement a majority of people's opinions regarding the council.

Element Broadcast #39 Dark Souls 2 #1
So, I suppose the first most noticeable difference between 2 and 1 is the intros. 1 has the much much better intro. Admittedly, the intro cinematics had much different goals between 1 and 2 so maybe its unfair to compare them, but come on 1 had epic battle against the dragons. 2 is here's some random old lady pontificating at you about how much it sucks to be you.

I also prefer actually making my character before the intro cinematic like in 1 then running into more old ladies going on about how much you're screwed before you can make your character. The asylum is also a much more atmospheric introduction then the tree place. And I still haven't had a proper boss fight despite being like 4 hours into the game. Which alright, is due in no small part to me screwing around for a while trying to punch that fat cyclops giant to death after meeting the Emerald Herald.

Spoiler alert: I failed repeatedly. So many times. I'm totally going to take another shot at it later, but for now, I've gone back to actually using swords to fight with instead of trying to punch my way through everything as fun as that might have been. Still despite, DS1 just having a much better intro portion of the game, I'm quite enjoying DS2. It feels somewhat more unfair and bullshit then the first game, and I definitely have to adjust to some of the nerfs. But it still has that "I just got my ass kicked, but I want so more" factor that DS1 had. And really, that's the most important part. That masochistic glee as you throw yourself at a problem over and over again til you git gud.

Oh I suppose I did have a boss fight, some random armor dropped from a giant crow or raven and just fucked my shit up. Sadly, I could not challenge it for a rematch, because according to one of my viewers it finds a new spot to hang out at after wrecking my face.

Since I certainly don't feel like replaying the game at the moment, I might look up those alternate scenes on youtube. Because it does sound interesting to see how paragon and renegade might interact with the different end game decisions.
