Element Broadcast: Currently Livestreaming: Command and Conquer Red Alert 3

Oh I suppose I did have a boss fight, some random armor dropped from a giant crow or raven and just fucked my shit up. Sadly, I could not challenge it for a rematch, because according to one of my viewers it finds a new spot to hang out at after wrecking my face.
Yeah, its name should probably tip you off in regards to how things are going to go between you two until you kill him. For now that is.

Element Broadcast #40 Dark Souls 2 #2
I have made annoyingly little progress even if I have admittedly fought and killed my first boss. The Last Giant is dead! I have completed the genocide of a species! Go me! D= Still, I think Dark Souls 2 is harder then DS 1 because that took me 5 tries to beat the first boss. It only took me like 2 or 3 to beat the asylum demon. I think a significant part of that is the huge nerf to estus flasks. But I think they also reduced the invincibility frames on dodge rolling.

The timing on parries has been changed up too so I'm kind of giving up on that for the time being. I should learn how to do it, but I'm not really in the mood to practice it more. I just want to make some progress. Also, I'm not a fan of having to wait for the parried subject to fall before I can riposte. The parry instant riposte of the first game was much more satisfying.

I'm divided on the limited number of spawns of enemies. On one hand, it limits farming, on the other hand, with the reduced estus flasks, its actually quite useful being able to clear out a path through repeated tries, especially since I have been dieing a lot. Definitely not a fan of the reduced HP everytime you die thing. For gameplay so focused on trial and error it punishes error too harshly. Not really a deal breaker, but certainly annoying.

And I mentioned this in the first stream but it makes me sad that there's no early zweihander in DS 2. I loved the DS1 zweihander. Like I loved it to an disturbing degree… -cough- Anyways, I certainly wish I didn't have to make it, I think, about half way through the game before I can get the DS 2 zweihander.

Oh and falling damage is bullshit in this game. The enemy mooks take like a tenth of the falling damage I do, if not less. That is utter bullshit. It also feels like falling damage is higher in this then the first game too. SO annoying, if I accidentally follow this one archer over the edge, he survives but I die. Despite the fact that I would have already taken like 80 percent of his health away and I'm mostly at full.

Element Broadcast #41 Dark Souls 2 #3
Well short session tonight. Guess I wasn't really in the mood for it. Though I am starting to get a better feel for the timing in this game now. I only died like 5 times in combat this time around instead of like the two dozen times in the previous session. So yay. I still haven't been invaded by any PCs but I did get invaded by an NPC. He killed me the first time but I got him on the second go. Admittedly I first tried to run away and hoped he'd despawn, but he never did.

So once cowardice failed to solved the problem, I girded my loins and went to work. I uh also fled from three of those turtle knights too because hahaha fuck that. I ain't dealing with three of them at the same time. Not til I manage to get a zweihander at least.

Anyways, I also found the big floaty armor guy of doom who wrecked my shit in the first session. The Pursuer. I did a fair bit better on our rematch, but he still killed me dead. But I think, it'll only take me a few more tries to take him out. Though, I might have to waste some time farming the mooks on the way to him to clear out a path so I can actually start the fight with full estus. Which reminds me, I found a flask upgrade in the map mansion so now I'm up to three chugs. Woot.

Nothing interesting to really say from this session to the point I'm kind of tempted to not bother writing up a summary. Other then fuck the pursuer. Ugh. He's only the second boss in Dark Souls 2 and I've already died to him almost as many times as it took me to take down Kalameet or Manus from the first game. Either Dark Souls 2 is in fact a lot harder then 1, or I have somehow become completely terrible at this game.

The estus nerf probably plays a large part in this situation but the lose a chunk of HP everytime you die thing sure as hell isn't helping either. Ugh. I'd still be throwing myself at him if it wasn't for the fact that I fell down the stupid ladder because I rolled towards it instead of walked and lost the almost 10k souls I had in that bloodstain from my repeat fights with the Pursuer. Really put a damper in my mood.

Element Broadcast #43 Dark Souls 2 #5
So I'm making progress, slowly but surely. I joined the Champion something covenant to respawn all the depleted mooks so I could farm to get the elite knight gear from Maughlin . Once I had that, I exited out of the covenant via the fluffy kitty. Whom I am really sad there is not a petting emote to use for. Because kitty. Anyways after like another six tries with the elite knight armor equipped I finally managed to kill the Pursuer. HUZZAH!

Then I bought the cat ring from the kitty to explore the big ass hole in Majula. Which led me to rats. So many rats. Which wasn't so bad til I hit the fog door down then and had to fight an endless fucking horde of them. I uh cowardly ran away with a bone after grabbing my bloodstain and went to the Lost Bastille.

Which is infested with dogs. Which I may be a little too gleeful about murdering. Because I still remember dogs killing me multiple times in DS1. Of particular fun is that one side room that you can drop a gunpowder barrel on them to explode three of them at once. Beyond that we got big mummys and a huge swarm of those royal swordsmen assholes. Who are the main reason I decided to call it quits for the night. Because dealing with like 6 of them aggro'd at the same time is a pain. Even if admittedly by running back to the tower I met Lucatiel in and climbing the ladder there, I can get most of them to just fall to their death.

Speaking of Lucatiel, I want her hat. Preferably with out the mask. But I want that hat. But I don't want to kill her either. I don't like killing NPCs. So I am conflicted. Oh well.

I've also tried to fight the Ruin sentinels twice. Tentatively, I don't think it will take me more then three more tries to kill them. Honestly, I think I can probably manage on my next go at them, but Dark Souls 2 has been killing me way more then Dark Souls 1 so I might be wrong.

Pretty sure the mask comes with the hat, but I could be wrong. And you'll probably get a chance to acquire it, but it's going to be awhile.

Also the rats aren't completely going away.

Yeah I looked it up on one of the various dark souls wikis. Apparently to complete her questline and get her gear I need to summon her for 3 boss fights and have her survive them all in a row. Which, is a problem because I refuse to summon NPCs or PCs to help me beat this game. I will solo everything! So, only way I get her stuff is if I kill her. But I don't want to be a dick who kills helpful NPCs for their fancy hats.

Also the rats aren't completely going away.

Yeah, I figured as much. Which is why I plan to return once I have some pyromancy and an ultra greatsword. Preferably the zweihander, but I'm not super picky.

So, it took me around four more tries to take down the Ruin Sentinels. So that puts me up to six go's against them I think. Man, I really am doing a lot worse in DS2 then I was in DS1, like I beat the Taurus demon on my first go without a scratch. Took out both the bell gargoyles on my first go as well. So that's the second and third boss of DS1 done on my first try. But the second boss of dark souls 2 took me over a dozen go's, and the third boss took a half dozen. -sigh-

Oh well. Still enjoying it even if its a fair bit more arduous then I was anticipating. And I think I'm starting to get into the swing of things, because I did one of the mini boss encounters with the pursuer in only two tries. Gonna go for my 'third' match for him to open the next session. But back to this previous session.

Those bellyflopping mummies pack a massive ridiculous punch. Though, I've figured out how to deal with them without too much hassle at this point. So they're not really a concern anymore. I briefly joined the bell covenant and then proceeded to completely fail at my first invasion. I fell down a hole twice. And then when I tried to get back to the guy I was invading he just dropped down on me and then I was dead.

On the other hand, I was then invaded by someone else later down the line. They went by the name chaotic good. Which seems odd when they're an invader, but after they killed me after a decent fight, they dropped an effigy, so they're certainly not a dick. And they also let me run back to a spot where if I died I wouldn't have too much of a hassle getting my souls back. So as far as invaders go I'd say 9/10. Doesn't beat the first invader I got in DS1 who gave me 99 titanite shards and like a bunch of other stuff. Sadly, I never thought to write down their name.

Oh, and I unpetrified Rosabeth and gave her some clothes. Sadly, she does not actually give a pyromancy flame so it'll be a while longer til I can start lighting stuff on fire and replicate my build from DS1. Still need pyromancy, and a zweihander.

So, checking online it seems using that shortcut after fighting the Pursuer was not the intended route? I dunno. Either way I've made a detour from the Lost Bastille to obtain a new yore branch, because I want to open up that bonfire right above the boss fog there. Ostensibly it was to save time, but at this point I've spent far more time obtaining the branch then I probably would have saved from reducing travel time between the non near bonfires and the boss fog. Oh well.

I am not a fan of the No-man's wharf. Its a really long area with entirely too many archers and it takes ages before you can open a shortcut back to the bonfire. Its a marathon level of annoyingness. But I kind of just skipped over the Heide's Tower place.

Which, well wasn't that much of a hassle, that triple giant fight would probably be more of a pain but I decided to just run by it instead of bothering with it on the way to the boss fog. The Dragonrider was pretty easy. Only two tries. Not bothering with his dragon because I have bad memories of the bridge dragon from DS1. Black Iron armor, flameplate ring, and I think a high fire res shield, and that bastard still killed me a dozen times before I could zweihand him to death.

Speaking of the zweihander, I still don't have DS2′s version but I did acquire the Greatsword, so that's neat. Thing be heavy though, its like 30 percent of my equip load in and of itself. So, probably going to hold off on using that til I up my equip load some more.

So next session will probably open with me fighting the boss of no man's wharf whom I didn't even give a shot because I wasn't particularly in the mood. Oh, and I met Gavlan. Whom I could totally cosplay. At least my beard and hair seem to be about the right length and color. (not that I actually cosplay, but its always fun seeing characters that I could if I wanted to)

Element Broadcast #46 Dark Souls 2 #8
So, I opened the session by fighting the flexile sentry in the no man's wharf ship. Took him out on my first try without even really having to try. Of course then I meet the mook version of him on the way to the Lost Sinner and the chest high water killed my mobility to the point that I got my ass kicked upon the rematch. So that was fun. After killing the mook version once and finding out he respawns I just kind of gave up and ran past him for my rematches with the Lost Sinner. But let's talk about that later.

Because what I want to talk about now are those fucking belfry gargoyles. At first I thought oh hey this'll just be a complete rehash of the Bell Gargoyles from DS1, but turns out no no it wasn't. Because a it starts with 2 of them instead of just 1, and you can end up to having something like 4 of them on the field at the same time. And they won't stop breathing fucking fire so you can't get close to attack any of them. So not only did they kill me I think 8 times, but the final victorious fight with them also took forever. Eventually I managed to whittle their health away while also burning through all my estus and entirely too many lifegems to pull out the win. But god damn was that a pain to deal with.

Oh, also the entire running back to the wharf for that fragrant branch to open up that one bonfire was completely pointless, because turns out that fog was not in fact boss fog. I suppose now I got the guy I get the boss weapons from, but ugh. All that work for a bonfire that ended up being pointless to use.

Speaking of bonfires, I really miss the humanity system of the first game. Where you could kindle each individual flame to get you more estus uses. I also miss the fact that you had various firekeepers you could interact with. Besides just those old retired ones and the Emerald Herald. Whom I'm somewhat annoyed with because having to teleport back to her everytime I want to level up is so annoying. Ugh.

Anyways, back to the Lost Sinner. She was pretty easy. She did kill me twice, but honestly I should have won that second fight. I got a little overeager and screwed myself over. And also I had no clue she was well a she til I read the flavor text on her soul. So, anyways, I made some good progress tonight. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this game, so hopefully I won't have too many more dieing a dozen times to the same boss moments.

After making plenty of progress yesterday, I basically hit a stonewall today. And that stonewall was Scorpioness Najka. Well ok, the curse pots and invisible forest dicks were part of it to. And well I suppose they weren't that stone wally. Just very infuriating. …Seriously screw those curse pots like they don't even kill me or screw me over they just piss me off. I'm glad I have that ring that halves the hp loss from curse/dieing. Because that made throwing myself at Najka like seven or eight times far more bearable.

Lots of lion dudes turned into statues which seems like bait to waste fragrant branches which is kind of a dick move given how limited of a number there appear to be. I mostly try to go blind on this stuff til I get really lost or really want something, but I think I'm gonna not do the trial and error thing with my anti-petrification items anymore.

Oh I also found the coffin of sex change. I don't really know why its in the game because as far as I'm aware the sex of one's character has zero effect on anything. But it was mildly amusing. I also, having killed the cyclops and another incarnation of the Pursuer, now am the proud owner of a kitchen ladle. Which does less damage then my bare hands. Truly it is the ultimate weapon.

Oh I met a severed head, who was like super zen about the whole thing, but apparently his body is significantly less zen about the deal. So that sounds like a fun future boss fight. He also runs a shop somehow. Like he's just a head. Where is he getting these items to sell in the first place. I dunno. But I like him. Would have been fun if I could pick him up and bring him along.

Element Broadcast #48 Dark Souls 2 #10
Today was a pretty good session I'd say. I mean sure I got really frustrated with this one part, but I managed to take two bosses down on my first try. And that's always a good feeling. Admittedly calling that preacher and his congregation a boss might be pushing it even if they did have the boss health bars. The giant fucking two headed spider was definitely a boss. Even if somewhat easier then anticipated.

So the start of the session was me unpetrifying some lion dudes using a wiki to tell me which ones I wanted to use my branches on. That went well enough and I freed up the Ornifex in the process. After that I went to the Brightstone Cove fought some pigs, got eaten by my first mimic, and then proceeded to poke said mimic to death via arrows through a window. Cheap sure, but amusing. After that spiders, lots and lots of spiders. Whom too my annoyance are supposed to drop zweihanders but apparently have an incredibly low item drop rate. Because despite killing probably close to a hundred of them by now, not a single one dropped a single thing at any fucking point. Those assholes. I want my god damn zweihander. -cough-

Anyways, I called it quits on farming them til I get an item that boosts item drop rates. But I suspect I might end up getting the zweihander in Iron Keep faster then bothering with the farming. So, until I decide to try to dual wield zweihanders, I'll hold off on farming them. Probably.

After that I started continuing on to the most annoying part of the session. That place with the giant sandpit all the casters and a crossbow dual wielding dark spirit. Upside, the Ornifex's workshop is there once I managed to clear the place out. Downside, I can see a fucking bonfire right next door to her, but I couldn't fucking get to it. Which made me really worried by the time I got to The Duke's Dear Freja's foggate, because that was a bit of a slog. Turns out most of my worry was unfounded because it took me only a single try to put the giant two headed spider down.

My guess is sacrificing my shield to have a torch up all the time to keep the minion spiders from attacking me is probably what made the fight so readily manageable. And I didn't even really need the shield because most of Freja's attacks are pretty heavily telegraphed. So dodge rolling wasn't too hard.
