Don't Miss Your Deadline! (Manga Editor Quest)

Alright, rolls closed! Thanks @Dark as Silver and @geogio13. Sorry, Kingster.

Hmm... yeah, this kind of user participation thing doesn't really work as well here compared to Fiction.live. In the future I might consider some kind of moratorium or making it so only omake writers can roll instead of forcing everyone to do this weird "first roller in" thing.

Alright, looks like our final bonuses for this chapter are:
Total bonuses:
Supporting Characters: +15
Story: +5
Setting: +10
Dialogue: +0

Layout/Background: +0
Characters: +0
Dynamic Art: +0
Special Effects: +0

Thanks a lot, everyone! I'll be back tomorrow for the four manga series dice hell.

You'd have to ask them to be rolled ahead of time or make sure this is scheduled at a good time for everyone because otherwise timezones might ruin that for some people.

Akun is definitely better suited to live rolling. Honestly, in forum environments I think it's just better to use your own dice roller, as it isn't like you're going to get the extra engagement that you might with live rolling; better to simply roll quickly and get updates out faster. Looking forward to the next update regardless.

Yeah, fair point.

Current plan is that from now on omake writers get a Refinement roll along with their usual Favor reward. I'll @ them when we're doing the Refinement posts and give them 24 hours to submit a roll. If they don't submit within that time, I'll do the roll instead along with all the extra suggestion rolls.

We'll try this out for the next set of Refinement rolls. If there are no new omakes then I guess I'll just roll everything myself instead to be fair.

Edit: Which reminds me... I'll have to update that Omake Prompt List at some point. If anyone's got any suggestions for omakes they might be interested in, let me know and I might add it to the list.

I'd love to see somebody expand on my prompt regarding the overly-similar classmates in the ninja manga
If I weren't in the middle an all-nighter at work I'd be writing an omake about leaning into this for humorous effect: all the male classmates stand around in a steam filled changing room, bald and identical, as they take turns drawing wigs from a box to determine which role each one is going to play today. And complaining about "Damn it! Jinta again. I hate being Jinta". While on the other side of the wall the girls do something similar.

And then taking it in either the "this is plot related ninja stuff" route or the pure comedy route with a C-plot about male generic 3 and his difficulties romancing female generic 5 when they both have to keep up their ever shifting cover identities

Ah. I thought the treadmark only showed us reaching the max revealed bonus. I must have read it wrong.

You can see the roll threshold in the sidestory roll update, and the roll at the end.

It usually rolled by players, but recent error and near in-thread fight make the QM consider rolling in different way.

Week 3 Rolling (Script)
Alright, it's time. I hope you're all prepared for DICE HELL because we're about to roll a loooot of 'em.

As a quick recap, here's how it works:
I roll 4d20 for each of the manga's main stats. Then we add their bonuses to get the stat's final result. The higher the better, with the minimum safe number being 40.

Our mangaka will also have rerolls available, which they will automatically use for the lowest stat if it's below 40. If there are no stats below 40, then Maeda will have the option to either use them to reroll a stat during the Review phase without adding any Overwork OR save them in order to get rid of any Overwork the mangaka might already have.

Now let's start with our first manga: Space Racer Subaru-kun (Chapter 3) by Tana-sensei. The bonuses are:
  • Tana-sensei's "New Mangaka" trait (+5 bonus to Writing and Art)
  • Tana-sensei's "This Ain't Kansas Anymore" trait (+20 Setting bonus for exotic location)
  • Manga Assistant Endo Yusuke (+5 bonus to Art, +5 bonus to Layout/Backgrounds)
  • Refinement bonuses: -5 Story, +5 Setting, +10 Dynamic Art, and +15 Special Effects
  • Available Rerolls: 1 reroll -5 from New Mangaka
Space Racer Subaru-kun (Chapter 3)

Writing

Supporting Characters: 41
+ 5 = 46
Story: 45
+ 5 - 5 = 45
Setting: 35
+ 5 + 5 + 20 + 5 = 70
Dialogue: 61
+ 5 = 66

Art

Layout/Background: 28
+ 5 + 5 + 5 = 43
Characters: 28
+ 5 + 5 = 38 49 + 5 + 5 - 5 = 54
Dynamic Art: 53
+5 + 5 + 10 = 73
Special Effects: 44
+ 5 + 5 + 15 = 69

Next up, we've got Our Daughter is Actually a Vampire! (Chapter 3) by Aoki Akira. The bonuses are:
  • Aoki Akira's "New Mangaka" trait (+5 bonus to Writing and Art)
  • Aoki Akira's "Real Life Inspiration" trait (+25 bonus to Characters based on real life people, -15 penalty to Characters for original characters)
  • Refinement bonuses: none
  • Available Rerolls: 1 reroll - 5 from New Mangaka, 1 free reroll from having a script Accepted As Is

Special Effects: 21

Our third manga is The Greatest Fake Teacher (Chapter 18) by Yuzuki Himari. The bonuses are:
  • Yuzuki Himari's "Experienced Mangaka" trait (Bonus of +10 to Writing and Art and +5 to Characters)
  • Yuzuki Himari's "Perfectly Average" trait (When final stats are rolled, raise the lowest stat to 50, but reduce the highest stat by an equal amount. This does not trigger if none of the stats are below 50)
  • Refinement bonuses: +15 Supporting Characters, +5 Story, +10 Setting
  • Available rerolls: 1 normal reroll from Experienced Mangaka
The Greatest Fake Teacher (Chapter 18)

Perfectly Average triggers! Layout/Background gains +12 and goes up to 50, while Story loses -12 and goes down to 60.

And finally, we have our fourth manga which is Lesser Evil, Greater Evil (Chapter 1) by Gendou Ren. The bonuses are:
  • Gendou Ren's "New Mangaka" trait (+5 bonus to Writing and Art) (Technically he should be "Novice Mangaka" level, but I decided that working on light novels would give him at least a little experience with the creative process)
  • Gendou Ren's "Light Novel Author" trait (Gain a +10 bonus to all Writing stats and a -10 penalty to all Art stats)
  • Available Rerolls: 1 reroll - 5 from New Mangaka, 1 free reroll from having a script Accepted As Is

Story: 24
+ 5 + 10 = 39
Setting: 48
+ 5 + 10 = 63
Dialogue: 45
+ 5 + 10 = 60

Art

Layout/Background: 48
+ 5 - 10 = 43
Characters: 31
+ 5 - 10 = 26 39 + 5 - 10 = 34
Dynamic Art: 34
+ 5 - 10 = 29 22
Special Effects: 39
+ 5 - 10 = 34

Edit: Whoops. Ignore that 5th dice for Subaru's Supporting Characters roll. That was a misclick. In any case, please @ me if you see any mistakes with my numbers. Otherwise, I'll see you guys later this week for the Week 3 Review Phase.

Tana actually has sone pretty good rolls and on the whole.. average so far? A bit above average?

e: Wow, Vampire is oooooof. We might be seeing our first dropped series with those rolls.

Yuzuki sensei is rolling and seems to be doing well. For now.

Edit: Yuzuki sensei 90s shojou character aesthetics is not the rage right now.

Thinking for the future, Gendou Ren would really benefit the most from an artist. Lower bonuses are probably easier to fix than improving an already high bonus, after all.

Gendou-sensei wtf happened to your first chapter plot.

Edit: Art rolls oof. Only one passed minimum quality.

I think Subaru's reroll failed so discard the 6. What's happening Tana-sensei.
Her rolls are fine
Pretty good actually

Supporting Characters: 47 + 5 =52, fine (+0)
Story: 45 + 5 - 5 = 45, not ideal but workable(-1)
Setting: 35 + 5 + 5 + 20 + 5 = 70, her trait is saving the day here but in the end a very good result is still very good (+2)
Dialogue: 61 + 5 = 66, surprisingly good (+1)
Layout/background: 28 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 43, workable (-1)
Characters: 49 + 5 + 5 - 5(reroll) = 54, fine (0)
Dynamic Art: 53 + 5 + 5 + 10 = 73, very good and satisfies chief editor demands (+2)
Special Effects: 44 + 5 + 5 + 15 = 69, good and more than satisfies chief editor demands (+1)
Total popularity bonus (unedited) = +4
With 5 points of editing = +6 (1 point in special effects, 4 points in dialogue)
With 10 points of editing = +7 (another 5 points in story)

All in all, not bad at all
Not quite as good as the first chapter, but pretty good

Now Vampire on the other hand is in some real trouble

edit: miscalculated a few things, still pretty good though
