No, the words were sacrum and profanum very specifically. "This is cyberpunk, so people augment their body. So the body is no longer sacrum; it's profanum." is the quote. And while sacred and profane is derived from the latin words, they don't mean the exact same thing.

The full quote is this :

"Nudity is important for us because of one reason," Badowski said. "This is cyberpunk, so people augment their body. So the body is no longer sacrum [sacred]; it's profanum [profane]. Because people modify everything, they are losing their connection to the body, to the meat. And that's why we need to use the nudity in many situations.

"You see that there are bodies in the tub, and you need to take care of this woman. But at the same time she is augmented," he continued, searching for the right words. "She is not clean. Maybe she is augmented too much. Maybe the humanity level is pretty low in her, so it's an interesting topic. It's one of the key themes in cyberpunk. The very first scenes in the original Ghost in the Shell anime show exactly the same aspect. Because where is sacrum and where is profanum in a world when you can simply modify yourself to such limits that it makes you a different kind of person? It's one of the most important themes in cyberpunk, as a genre."

Honestly, I don't see what point you're making. From the text here it's obvious that the devs regard any modification as bad, a violation of the sanctity of the human body that literally causes you to loose your humanity.

If you're going to claim that the words mean something else, then do provide that translation.

To my knowledge, the 'Profanum' refers not just to what we would commonly call 'the profane' now, but also 'the material world'. While the 'sacrum' is the spiritual and immaterial that isn't merely something our regular senses take in.

The extended quote doesn't really change anything. With that knowledge in mind, they are refering to how people are in the age of Cyberpunk 2020 to 2077 'losing touch' with what isn't purely material. As for the humanity, that is a actual game mechanic in the tabletop. One that refers not directly to the soul or anything (That's shadowrun) but rather to mental stability.

I'm still confused to what you're actually trying to argue. I mean, you're literally repeating the definition of the word profane.

Profane means, or in this context, a lack of respect for what should be sacred. Just because you use the latin word for it doesn't change any of the meaning.

Similarly, your explanation around the humanity score does nothing to undermine my point. If anything it strengthens it. I mean " modifying the body is violating it's sacredness" is a significantly less judgemental stance than " modifying the body turns you into a psychotic murderer".

Firstly, I missed typing the words "commonly call", my bad.
Secondly, I admit I managed to misunderstand you due to having been on my phone and slightly occupied in a bathroom, to keep it clinical. So I think we can drop it. I just had a kneejerk due to misunderstanding what you were saying and being very tired of what some people are saying on the internet while not grasping what WORDS mean.

Some of my hype for the game has been restored by the knowledge of the devs basically eliminating binary gender from the character creation (which, no matter how cynically motivated it may or may not be, is, was and always will be a good move), and also the new video has kind of made me question if RPS's obsession with the murdering The Animals came from the fact that they had unconscious biases in regards to black representation (I.E a strong preference for overtly "respectful" rep over rep like the Animals) because The Animals and Voodoo Boys come across as oddly progressive for Triple-A. The advertisement is still there, though.

Also, this was from, like, a couple of months ago, who knows how the game's been changed.

Sounds like they're at least trying, yeah. We'll see how the result shapes up, but I'm also more hopeful.

So, my theory is that depending on how things go, either Dexter Deshawn or Jackie will be the one to betray you. Jackie is aggressive, easily agitated and fond of violence to an unsettling degree. Deshawn calls him your 'Psycho Friend' in a setting where Psycho is connected to the term Cyber Psycho. My idea is that if you go in guns blazing, Jackie will bite it and Deshawn will turn on you for disrupting things too much and drawning too much attention.

But Jackie, unstable, and violent Jackie might let his swelling temper get the better of him and stab you in the back if you aren't violent enough for him. Or, as I suspect, if you go the slick route, he'll turn on you because it looks like Deshawn might favor V over him because V is more his style, a slick face and Netrunner vs Jackies wannabe Solo.

I hope that you can customize your body more. I want fat characters to be an option.
EDIT:

Dev Q&A. Does anyone wanna give a TL;DR?

LATE EDIT:
Like. If CDPR lets me make a gender nonconforming street sam woman with a huge dick bulge in my skintight catsuit then I'll say that they're going all in on the world. but if this is a 'normal' thing in the world and I am not given the option to like... play that part? Then it's bullshit fetishistic othering.

Looks like they are. Hell, they're eliminating binary gender entirely, which makes sense. Still, I hope they change the character design interface again.

Most important takeaways
The gameplay is going to have different paths to objectives depending on skillset.
Lots of QA testing going on.
No loading screens.
Sidequests are going to have greater story and depth.
Life paths aren't locked in stone going through the game you can go from street to crop and presumably vice versa and other alignments.
Only some cyberware requires docs to change some can be done from the inventory
Nonlethal playthrough is possible
Missing objectives will not cause a game over but may have consequences upon how stories unfold.
Techy explained as more hardware-oriented than the runner using the flathead robot and other devices like it.
Sounds like a significant number of guns do more than just shooting bullets either doing special things like increasing speed of bullets as you continuously fire or alternate firing modes.
Cyborg Ninja is viable and Katanas/other melee weapons are a thing.
Most weapons can be customized both cosmetically and functionally and animations will change as you get better with a type of weapon.

But here's the big question:

Can I wear power armor?

Im not the most informed on Cyperpunk lore, but I *believe* there are no easily usable power armors like what your describing (i.e fallout exosuits)

People have cited "The Dragoon" as the upper limit of what Cyberpunk armors are like, and it requires (a) lifetime investment as the body is designed to handle the stress of being a person sized combat tank (b) stays in a medically induced coma when not deployed so the rocket launcher arms don't get misused. (c) is only fielded by the *actual*millitary, as the type of person who goes for a total body conversion of that scale is both ireplacable asset, invested into the cause beyond all rational, and requires constant repair and maintenance.

We saw the closest thing to a personal exosuit in the "big demo" and the amount of infrastructure required for it made it unwieldy. And those were the dudes who make a lifestyle out of combat augmentation. Personal exosuits are a tier above in Cyberpunk.

There are power armor suits in the tabletop RPG that only require a basic vehicle link, not a full body augmentation but they are military gear and cost a fortune to use and maintain. They blow Fallout power armor out of the water in terms of effectiveness and sheer power.

Utterly overpowered for standard Cyberpunk 2020 they become much more common in the fourth corporate war modules where you'll very likely face squads of them.

If we face them in 2077 then only the Corps will have them and will likely be the toughest enemies in the game outside of tanks and combat aircraft.

... So the chances that they can actually do moral ambiguity right are small. It only barely worked in The Witcher because a lot of it was really highly abstracted shit that doesn't really apply to IRL morality the way Cyberpunk 2077 does.

I seem to recall they can get their brainbox loaded into a more human shaped cyborg body so they can have human interaction and not by that WRYYYYYYY WH40K assassin . The chromebooks of past editions have examples(Including those animal mods which seemed a bit overboard like having a shark-head)

Well...the latest demo does talk about a moral dilema apparently the Netwatch and the Vooodoo boys the later wanting to keep the giant cyber-wall that keep rogue A.I (if I understand correctly) at bay and the other saying that would lead to the apocalypse.

Now I feel that is pretty abstract as far moral dillema goes, though I guess what they really want you to focus is "are you true to your word or will you betray the Voodoo boys" part, which is not entirely invalid.

Though presumably the worst case scenario probably don't happen if you stick with the Voodo Boy if only cause the story need to keep going

I saw some folks on YouTube who were getting pretty bitchy about CDPROJEKTRED'S decision to completely eliminate the "Choose your Gender" button. Plenty of people were pissed off about CDPROJEKTRED not using the word "Gender" in their Character Creation menu.

It seems to me like some folks don't understand what is exactly in front of them. As I understood it, thanks to some good explanation on Reddit, what it means is that the player can create any type of character they want. Body, voice, skin, features, (maybe even having the option of having no limbs/default cyborg limbs?) etc. when creating their character.

But sadly, what that YouTuber was harping on and on about was how "there exists only two genders, CDPROJEKTRED are stupid, I'm not cool with this, not buying the game, etc." I checked the comments section and yep. Found hundreds of "only two genders" comments.

Like what.

It was quite... hmm. Not surprising really, because I know the IRL situation all over the world regarding this matter. Absolutely insanity all over the globe.

What I was surprised and disappointed with was that it was the people who were gaming who were the ones commenting such bull. Don't they understand what Cyberpunk means? Really.

And they call themselves gamers. Incredibly disappointing really. I myself am not a "hardcore gamer" no thanks to not being able to afford a decent gaming rig. But even I'm somewhat familiar with the concept of Cyberpunk, Transhumanism, Augmentation, etc. and the quite similarity between these concepts and the present situation of the Trans people.

I seriously doubt I can understand what goes on inside their minds. It's quite amazingly scary to guess at the "logic" behind their thought processes.

Coming back to the main point, its quite amazing to see how CDPROJEKTRED has focused on the Cyberpunk aspect so much, in and out, that they are literally going all the way to perfect the game to their utmost best efforts. I mean I agree with their decision. It makes solid sense. Why would you label something as "Male gender" or "Female gender" when it's a game in which the whole "natural order" is getting spread and turned and tipped over and under the board, right?

If one wanted a straight male character they can choose a male body, a male voice, clothes and other male nick nacks. And get attracted sexually to NPC's who aren't male.

If they wanted to play a straight female character, they can do the same with a female body, voice, clothes etc. And the attraction to male NPCs.

Instead of doing this, the incredibly annoying folks over in their abodes are just going on and on with such debates and discussions as if CDPROJEKTRED has failed them, are SJWs, etcetera etcetera and I'm frankly quite perturbed by it.

I'm not sure if they will even appreciate the amazing game they get to play in their latest $10K gaming rig with multiple monitors and VR headgear. (Yeah, I'm hella jelly.)

Pearls before swine.

[Off-topic edit: What... I wrote the term SJWs in my penultimate paragraph but apparently it wasn't an autocorrect error. It automatically changes itself into "wonderful people"...? Is this another rule I haven't heard about? :???: I hope I don't get shot over for this.]
