Also really happy to see some Shenanigans in Ace Attorney. Was sad when I read Cass wasn't importing but this was more than enough to satisfy me.
I do enjoy the "player characters acting like
player characters" gag, and I'm glad this little slice of case satisfied the Ace Attorney craving.
Damn, she really started falling back on stock lines. Is she going to wig out about that later?
The reveal that "California" is actually just Japan with a bunch of American names poorly slapped over it was hilarious. Also, while I'm unclear if the rules of the world were making Cassandra keep using the stock "I don't know what that is. Is it important?" line, or if she just went with it on her own, I'm choosing to believe the latter for the moment, because it is more amusing. XD
(Funnily, I just finished playing through the first three Phoenix Wright games. Kind of glad I stuck to only showing pieces of evidence I thought might actually be important to the people involved, rather than just iterating through every possible option — because as this chapter pretty clearly shows, that quickly becomes rather farcical. ^^; )
Also, morbidly curious what the country on the other side of the Pacific is. Is California Japan just as Japan is California?

I'm not sure whether the glowing lump meant something broader than the specific case, but the rest worked amazingly well with having merely seen references here and there. Then again, I've played a few point-and-click adventures, and the whole thing really played into that feel.
That's been the amazing part of reading this, allowing each world to feel true to its source material, but seen from a side-character's perspective. Even when some things feel oddly contrived, it feels like the world (or perhaps Management) doing the contrivance, instead of the author. Well done.
I can't wait to see where they go next.
As someone who's played a lot of Ace Attorney, that was absolutely hilarious. Her repeating the same line each time for things she didn't recognize was great, I have to wonder if it was playing along or the rules of the universe enforcing it.
Cass was absolutely doing her 'lines' on purpose. If she gave a unique response for each item, how many players would sit and show her
every single thing just to see all her dialogue? She doesn't want to deal with that!
The localization team really dug themselves a hole when they localized the first game's setting. (This chapter and the next reference the
Awkward Zombie comic on the setting; in this one, it's the "hamburgers" that were "anything but".) As for what the US looks like... I don't know. Whatever's funniest, I guess.

It feels like Cass forgot that she'd just saved someone, which, when she's sitting there covered in blood, is kind of amusing. Is the narrative force just normalizing witnessing an attempted murder, or is she somewhat inured to violence thanks to her time in medieval fantasy worlds and Worm, or is that more of an "Oh, definitely" than an "Oh, right, I forgot"?
It's mean to read as "Oh, obviously," not, "Oh,
right, that thing."
The Ace Attorney section was brilliant, I was laughing out loud through Phoenix presenting everything in his inventory to her.
Also, damn, Cass manages to get caught in the middle of something immediately, huh. I suppose we're likely going to see her being called into a witness in the court case in the next update, once CC is off hiatus (or if we have another surprise chapter dropped on us).
Alas, Cass's only role was to give Wright one crucial bit of information that let him prove another character was lying about their alibi, which is why he pulls out the Secret-Busting Magatama as he runs off. She is thankfully spared the rest of the drama.
First line - really captures Cas being barely understandable in japanese, presuming that is the characterisation you wanted?
Second line - I think this is google translate for "you're shitty" which seems ... not to be what you are going for?
The person who did the translation said the second line could be translated as "Your Japanese is shit". That said, Google Translate renders the exchange as
Cass: I guess my Japanese is fine?
Homura: You suck.
which I am perfectly happy with.
