Clear Skies, Captain

[X] Special - My radio officer picked up a distress broadcast coming from the island just north of Asako. I've given the all-ahead full order, and prepped the squadron for a scramble. (???)
[X] Let Marao have his baby. (Spends 5,000ç on Island Skies Industries' Hisso X1, an Armor 3, Weapons 4, Speed 2 Fighter, modified for the Portable Special Rule)

Get the ace the special fightet

So um... did we basically do a grade acting in a B grade movie?

Kind of, yes.

Also, a note on Mission Classifications:
Normal Mission - Normal missions are potentially recurring event flags that don't necessarily have a clock on when they go off, though some circumstances can come up that may make them unavailable. They pop up regularly, but an individual mission's frequency will fall as I conceive of more of them.
Special Missions - Special missions pop up a maximum of twice in a given mission set (special occurrence is dictated by hidden checks) and can be considered Rare quality. They have continuity and may have sequel missions, but are not necessarily exclusive to the first turn they appear.
Event Missions - Event missions can occur one time in a mission set and may be considered Epic or Story quality. They have continuity and refusing to take them may bar you from certain elements of story progression (though not all of them are mechanically worth the risk).

If you've ever played Bladestorm, I'm basically straight ripping their mission system.

Our balance is in the negatives, and the new airship won't help matters unless we start going on missions that pay off... but 'dat mystery box.

Just for the record, we have 5701 on us currently, and our new baby will cost us the majority of that.

Not saying we shouldn't heed the distress signal, just saying we need to be sure of the situation.

The royalties should pay the next upkeep if we fail to make money on this mission.

If we somehow end up needing repairs or what-have-you, we could be in trouble.

Become a captain on a mighty airship. Manage your funds, select contracts, and take command in the field to win glory and wealth for you and your crew. As a note for prospective players, this game will be relatively mechanics-heavy, and is a mental exercise for me to regularly use hard mechanics more than for a particular story to be told (though there is still a basic plot hiding in there somewhere).
Did someone call for me?

Turn 2.1; A Sunk Cost
The automated distress ping on my radio gets stronger as The Spring Storm approach Haido, the jungle island north of Asako, before we also start picking up a lower-frequency announcement. The contents make me feel like a complete bastard.

"Depths' Bounty Iosho Registration Zero-Six-Seven-Five, requesting assistance! Depths' Bounty Iosho-"

"I.R. Zero-Six-Seven-Five, this is I.R. Zero-Six-Eight-Eight Spring Storm hailing; what's the situation?" I say, cutting off the radioman.

There's a short pause before a different, female voice comes over the radio, one I recognize immediately. "This is Captain Ariel Bright, with whom am I speaking?"

"Captain Ariel, this is Captain Victoria," I start, now sure this is definitely the same trade company we'd refused just last month. "I'll be setting down approximately three spans south of your position, at the beach. Could you tell me what seems to have happened?"

From my spot in the air, I can only see the top of the little Heracles, partly covered with tarps.

There is another pause. "Our mana pump failed, leak in a coupling somewhere. We made an emergency landing, but sustained damage you might have seen from the air. We can get back to Asako, but we'll need a few extra engineers, some mana, and supplies to patch the ship for the trip. If you could send people out to us, we'd much appreciate it."

Bad luck
, I muse, prepping for a temporary landing.

[] Lead them out myself. I'm not a first-class mage, but I'm good enough to help refill a Vettium mana pump once the engineers fix it up.
[] Send them out, I'll keep an eye out for pirates from the air while the repairs are ongoing.
[] I don't have a huge excess of supplies here. We could radio back to Asako from high ground and get a barge out here to help with the repairs, though.

If a king doesn't lead from the front, how can you expect hi-what do you mean, "that metaphor doesn't apply here"?

This smells a little fishy.
