Catching Victory (A Pokemon Quest)

Huh. I automatically discounted that, since Powder moves don't affect grass types in Gen VI. But technically Zeta Omicron runs off of Gen V + fairy mechanics, so...it's whatever the QM prefers, I guess?
Movesets and types from Gen 6. Mechanics from Gen 5. Some background from the anime and another Pokemon fan game, and nostalgic for Gen 2.

My quest is basically a mutt.

"Go get 'em, Moondust." You say. Moondust flies forward into the arena, thankfully undeterred by the smell of tobacco.

"Alright, Chikorita, let's go" Gideon says as he releases his pokemon from his Great Ball. The Chikorita runs forward, ready to fight.

It looks lie Moondust actually has an advantage.

Which could either be very good or very bad considering his track record.

[] Write in a strategy.
[] Let Moondust decide.

This matchup shouldn't be difficult. I think we can reliably leave it to Moondust if we want. His only ranged attacks are Razor Leaf and Poison Powder, unless Gideon gave it a TM, which we should be wary of.

If we do decide to give direction, my suggestion would be to use String Shot and then Poison Sting/Gust until it faints, while staying out of melee range as much as possible.

Makes sense to me. I'll go with letting Moondust decide, but I'll switch if someone makes a reasonable detailed vote.

[x] Let Moondust decide.

"Light 'em up!" You yell.

Moondust fires a String Shot at Chikorita. Chikorita ducks below the string. The vines on Chikorita's neck start to extend, intent on whipping Moondust.

"Grass type attacks are innefective. Use Headbutt" Gideon commanded.

The Chikorita nodds, retracting his vines and charging at Moondust. Moondust launches another gust of wind at the Chikorita but he recovers and continues his charge, slaming his head into Moondust with an almost sickening crack.

Moondust flips backwards, still reeling from the hit before stabilizing himself and launching a powerful gust of wind. It slams into the Chikorita, sending him falling back. Not letting him get a chance to recover, Moondust fires poisoned needles at the Chikorita. The needles hit their mark, digging into the grass pokemon and leaving him poisoned.

Chiorita growled, determined to power through the injury and charged at Moondust again, abruptly changing directions to avoid a new blast of wind before slamming into Moondust again. However, Chikorita was flagging. Bruises covered his body and the poison was causing him to sweat.

"Chikorita. Use Sythesis. Keep yourself in the fight" Gideon commanded.

Chikorita nodded at the command before his entire body was enveloped in a bright green glow. Drawing upon the power of the sun shining through the Gym's skylight, his wounds started to heal.

The next few seconds were practically a cycle. Moondust kept knocking Chikorita around with gusts of wind, and Chikorita kept recovering, and closing the distance to hit Moondust with a headbutt. Moondust was doing his best not to show it, but he was getting tired.

[] Let Moondust handle this. He can outlast Chikorita.
[] Give orders. (Write in)

Self-healing moves are hax. When can we get one? :)

Can I presume that Chikorita's stamina is getting worn thin, due to the repeated attacks, damage, and expenditure of energy on healing?

Tentatively:

[x] Give orders.
-[x] Moondust stays in the air and out of melee range.
-[x] Moondust focuses on using ranged Confusion attacks, dodging, and conserving energy.
-[x] Let the poison continue to wear down Chikorita's stamina.

I'll check back later and switch my vote for any other ideas.

To everyone still interested in the quest.

I apologize for the delays for the last few updates. I'm graduating in about two weeks and I'm trying to get everything in order, so I've had to put some things on hold, including this quest.

I hope to get the next update written tomorrow.

Moondust vs Chikorita
"Moondust, go up! Get out of range and use Confusion!" You yell at Moondust.

Moondust nods and flaps his wings hard, launching himself upwards just barely avoiding Chikorita launching himself at Moondust. Moondust start to ascend almost hitting the roof before his body takes on a red glow.

"Chikorita, use Vine Whip. Bring him back down." Gideon calmly orders. Vine's extend from Chikorita's neck and launch at Moondust. Before the vines can make it to Moondust, Chiorita's body starts to glow and he is launched away. He goes flying until he collides with a potted plant, knocking it to the side, along with a few that were next to it.

"Razor leaf. Keep him pinned" Gideon says orders. Before Still on the ground, Chikorita starts to launch leaves at Moondust from the leaf on his head. Moondust flies in a zip zag pattern to dodge the leaves. Moondust glows again and launches a second psychic attack, but this one only succeeds in destroying a pot that was next to Chikorita.

Chikorita takes the opportunity to charge forward, launching razor sharp leaves at Moondust barely breaking his stride. Moondust avoids most of them but several hit their mark and Moondust is forced backwards to avoid getting hit more. As you look up, you see Moondust is running out or room to maneuver. The dome shaped room curving downward, putting Moondust in range of Chikorita's Vine Whip.

"Move to the center, Moondust! Don't let 'em corner you!" You yell. As soon as you finish your order, Moondust circles around Chikorita. As soon as Moondust tries however, Chikorita taes a running leap towards him. It's nowhere nearly high enough to catch Moondust, but the vines extend from Chikorita's neck and shoot towards Moondust. This time, the vines wrap around Moondust and slam him into the ground, then again. You wince each time Moondust hits the ground, and again, when Chikorita tosses Moondust to the side. He rolls a few times on the grassy floor of the gym before coming to a stop.

"That's enough!" Gideon calls off his Chikorita before he can do anything else. Chikorita nods, retracting his vines to half the distance between himself and Moondust. For a few seconds, Moondust barely moves, just a twitching of his wings. It looks like he's knocked out.

"I apologize for that" Gideon says sincerely. "Though as they say, you can't win 'em all. Trust me" Gideon looks down for a moment, lost in his own thoughts.

"But for now, we have a battle to finish." Gideon says. "Chikorita, use Synth-" Before he can finish him sentence, Moondust glows a bright red and launches one last psychic attack at Chikorita. His body is engulfed in a red glow and he is launched across the room. Chikorita comes to a abrupt halt as he slams into a tree marking the corner of the arena. He slides down unconscious, the previous attacks and the poison finally prove too much for him.

"Dus...tox" Moondust weakly says as he passes out by his own injuries.

"You did a good job, buddy. You deserve a rest" You say as you recall Moondust.

As it stands, you're both down one pokemon. And unlike last time, you only get two pokemon to fight Gideon's with. You're going to have to choose which pokemon you're going to fight with carefully.

[] Neptune
[] Philosoraptor
[] Eva
[] Leviathan
[] Fluffy

I'm thinking Eva or Fluffy, leaving Philosoraptor to clean up. Will think on it a bit more, and vote when I get back.

Hmm. I'll look at this without meta-gaming. Gideon is known for his Nuzleaf though.

Eva can attack at range, is more experienced with trickery, and has Heal Block. Heal Block may be quite useful against grass-types. Her Miracle Eye can remove the Nuzleaf's Dark-type immunity too, though any Dark-type attacks would still hurt if the Nuzleaf can get close enough.

On the other hand, Fluffy can also attack at range and has much better resists and mobility. She also has some great utility moves, which will still work against grass types in this quest. Leech Seed + Cotton Spore + Stun Spore would pretty much cripple any opposing Pokemon into standing still and leaking health.

Also, her Fairy Wind could get a few good hits on the Nuzleaf if the Nuzleaf appears.

But she is capable of much, much lower offensive damage innately. And she doesn't have any particularly strong attacks either. Growth could buff Fluffy up though, if her other moves buy her a little time.

Eh. Eva might even be the better choice, but Fluffy hasn't had many chances to shine yet. I kinda want to see how she does.

[x] Fluffy
