Catching Victory (A Pokemon Quest)

Ugh, I completely forgot about HM's for a moment. I always play on emulators, so I just turn on the walk through walls cheat, then proceed to ignore all HMs except fly and surf.

Well, don't worry. You don't need HMs to get through this game. There will always be another way.

However, that other way will cost time, or money, or risk injury.

You agree. It wouldn't take that long, but you should take care of it before tonight.

"Thank you" The Hypno says to you, breaking out in a wide smile. Before you can do anything else, images start to flash in your mind. A house that you somehow know is in Superior City, how to get there from here, and the image of a Drowzee, which you figure is the Hypno's son. Apparently she has placed where the house where her son is in your mind. You're confident that you could find your way there.

Not that it makes you feel any less dirty.

"Please hurry." She says.

Turning around, you leave, still trying to shake your unclean feeling.

[x] Go to Superior City.
-[x] Keep your eyes peeled for more Pokemon to battle/catch as we travel.

We are actually on a timer, can't spend forever here.

You head straight to Superior City, not stopping to look for any more pokemon. You figure that if you want to train or catch more pokemon, there's always tomorrow.

As you traverse through the forest, you are glad that you bought the flashlight. It lets you have at least an idea where you're going. While you are walking, you see a shape out of the corner of your eye. Turning your flashlight towards it, you see that it's a Dusk Ball. Smiling, you pocket it.

Eventually, the trees start thinning out, with more and more space between them until they taper off completely and a dirt road leading to the city proper appears to have been laid out.

As you start down the road, Neptune turns to Philsosraptor and says something in a happy tone. Philosoraptor seems to mutter a response.

Eventually, you're going to need to learn how to understand pokemon-speak, you think.

The dirt road eventually leads to a paved one as you get closer until finally you've made it to Superior City. It's much larger than Zanzivar but thankfully, near the path you took, there's a kiosk with a large city map and several portable ones. You take one before studying the map, deciding where to go from here. There's the standard Pokemon Center and Poke Mart but you also see something called the "Wonder Cave"to the east of the city, before the route leading out of the city. You see a note printed by the entrance to route 302 on the map.

NOTICE: DUE TO A RECENT LANDSLIDE, ROUTE 302 HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN. WE EXPECT THE RUBBLE TO BE CLEARED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. YOUR PATIENCE IS APPRECIATED.

Looks like travel out of the city is out of the question unless it's back the way you came.

OBTAINED: Dusk Ball x1

[X] Drowzee's house

IIRC, all of our 'mon are in fighting shape with at least 75% health. We can afford to get this task done quickly, before night fully sets in.

Same misspelling a few times in the post when Bard was at the shrine.

Ah, Bard sure has the adventurer's 'finders keepers' mentality. :)

1. Well, I had to cheat to pass my pre-school spelling test so...

2. It's not like anyone else was using it. :)

Because the results seem to be near unanimous, the voting is closed. I'm about halfway done with the next part. However, I have some things to do for work. I hope to get it done by the end of the day but...

IV Changer
You make your way to the house, all the while slightly unsettled how it feels like you've made the trip hundreds of times. The streets are mostly empty, save for the occasional pedestrian going who-knows-where.

Eventually you get to the house. The house itself is near, but unremarkable. White picket fence, purple roof, wood that looks like it was painted recently, neat lawn. The only thing that stands out is a bright white sign with purple lettering. Curious, you take a closer look.

_______________________________ "Open From 9:00 - 8:00 Monday - Friday"

Apparently, this IV changer is running his buisness out of his house. Looking at your Pokegear, you see that's about 7:45. Looks like you're here on time. Turning the knob, you enter.

Once you are inside, you would never guess that it was different from any regular living room, except that the television is handing from the ceiling as opposed from a wall of on the floor. The television is playing some reality show or another. You aren't sure. Every time you try to focus on it, your vision goes blurry and the words start to smash together, as if your brain is rejecting it. An elderly man sits at a table and gestures to you.

"Hello!" The man says enthusiastically. "I'm the IV Changer! Do you know what an IV is?"

You say yes. Your mother told you all about Individual Values a while ago. She also said that a smart trainer or a determined pokemon can make up for less than optimal IVs.

"Good! Good my boy!" The IV Changer says. "Then you know that they stay the same from the day a pokemon is born, unless I change them. All I need is an IV Stone and a reasonable fee and I can change your pokemon's IVs."

You don't have an IV Stone in anyway. Still, if you wanted to come back later, it could prove useful.

"No thank you." You say. "Do you know the Hypno in the forest? She asked me to pick up her son."

"Ah, so that's it" The man says, understanding. "Claire! Someone's coming to pick up Drowzee!" The man yells towards the door.

"In a minute!" A female voice comes from the other side of the. A few seconds later, a young teenager opens the door and Psyduck and Drowzee follow her out. You explain that you are there to tell Drowzee to go home.

"Already?" The girl asks. "What time is it?"

You let her know that it's 7:45.

"Really? It's that late? Well... I guess she would be worried about Drowzee..." she trails off before turning to the pokemon "See you later. Make it home safely" She says.

"Psy!" The Psyduck happily says, waving the hand not holding their head. The Drowzee says his goodbyes to the other two before smiling at you.

"And goodbye to you" The man says to you as Drowzee heads out the door. "And remember, if you ever need to change your Pokemon's IVs, I'll be here."

You say your farewells and leave. On your way, you study your map of Superior City when you notice one of the landmarks you missed before, the Pokemon Battle Club. You can guess what goes on there from the name. Stowing the map away, you venture forth.

Let's get this done now, so we don't have to worry about it later.

I say we use our favor with the hypno to find ourselves a beedrill. The GM said that we have alternatives to using HMs to get around, but they would be somewhat more difficult. That sounds like more Exp. to me, so it's a win-win.

I do not understand how IV's work at all.

Seconded. I played the first few generations, and then quit. Now I'm like an old man confused by all the newfangled technology.

I was going to have an option for not knowing what IVs were, but since his mother is a champion, Bard would know about them. Basically, it's a value that a pokemon gets assigned when it's generated in the game (e.g. when you get it's egg, encounter it in the wild, when it's given to you). It gives pokemon bonuses in certain stats when it levels up. So a pokemon with IVs in Attack gains a bonus in Attack increases when it levels up.

Refer to this chart for a specific example.

Best to get it out of the way. But we should save any favor's we get for later. We don't know what we might need.
