So apparently there is this...viral?...teaser?...short story(?) here: http://www.enhanceyourselfforabettertomorrow.info/
Password is BLUEBIRD in all capital letters.

Basically a lot of dumped exposition of the setting, using chapters going back and forth between Zurich, 2063 and Singapore, 2037. Mentions of worsening climate change, the attacks of L.A., and mind control!

So this is still in the BLOPS setting? I was wondering given the time jump and lack of tying elements in the trailer.

I swear if Menendez is still alive and escapes or whatever I'm just gonna burn the whole fucking planet from orbit, I'm so done with him

Yup, and in the 2037 sections, they are even trying to cure the PTSD of the LA survivors using simulations of the human brain. Or that's what I understood, it was a bit too sciency for me. Plus obvious link with the password referencing the CIA's mind control project.

I'm busy with other matters at hand to investigate the issue, but can someone explain to me in short why the pre-order for Cod Blops Triple on the Steam front page is a whopping 115 dollars.

Other than Activision possibly concluding like Microsoft that the industry crash is coming? Don't Know.

It's the pre-order for the Deluxe Edition, IE regular game and season pass.

That said the actual price for the regular game is $80 from all the other retailers it's been put up on, so Activision wants me to take my business to "still setting games at $70 on Origin" EA, apparently. :V

EDIT: Oh wait no apparently the retailers reminded EA digital services aren't allowed to have too much of an advantage.

At least it's not Australia prices?

If they have cyborg zombie Reznov in the game, I'll buy it(I liked World at War, Black Ops and Black Ops II), but unless that's confirmed I'll wait a couple weeks/months before buying it, so that definite opinions can settle in and not just the paid 11/10 of pre-launch to launch.

And the price gets more reasonable, because the only thing that might get me to shell out over 60 buck for a videogame in the upcoming future is Warhammer : Total War. Maybe.

So, with the PS4 Black Ops 3 beta starting in about six hours, I figured it would be time to bump this.

So first have the relevant tutorial video on both combat movement and the specialists:

Second is that apparently, getting access to the beta via pre-ordering (whether legit or through the Amazon method of not having to put actual money on the line), gives you three codes, one for yourself and two meant for friends.

So whether you're really trusting of Treyarch or just know that Amazon doesn't charge you until the ship date for video game pre-orders, feel free to post spare codes you have unused on here. :V

I haven't played Call of Duty since the first Black Ops, so I've skipped 4 games at this point. I'm actually interested in getting back into it now, though I'm sure I won't be a tenth as good as I was on consoles. What's the general consensus on Blops III so far?

Well everybody's playing a beta right now so it would be really dumb to make a solid consensus beyond "it seems fun?". Things can change between development and release. I mean people said Advanced Warfare seemed fun and well balanced when they tried it out after all. :V

Speaking of the beta, it's now open to everybody on PS4.

I wonder if they're going bother trying to do the exclusive to pre-orders stuff on Xbox One/PC or just skip straight to it being an open beta.

Back when the bribes came from Microsoft, I don't think there were significant betas on other platforms. Now that the money stream comes from Sony, I'd imagine it'll be similar now. Xbox marketing is doing a pretty good job of pretending Blops doesn't even exist at the moment, because it's a Sony brand.

From a dark souls player who I follow:

Knify knify.... also that missile killstreak is really good, it got all but one target.

Yeah, speaking of knives ...

Like I said earlier I'm pretty bad at this game. My accuracy, speed and situational awareness aren't great so I get ruled a lot in gunfights. The best I did was about 1000 points, managed one UAV killstreak and my highest kdr was 1.00. It's not my genre normally so I didn't mind, and the game is so quick that I still found it enjoyable. I left the beta sit after the first day, wherere I was sitting right on the cusp of level 8.

Because @Exposure was talking about it on IRC I thought I'd play a little more seeing as it's the last day, had a couple of good runs and hit level 10, at which point I unlocked the combat knife. And instantly went Tier One, like Treyarch had killed Krillin right in front of me.

This is clearly hugely unfair. I went from 'shit' to 'topping my team three times in a row with a 6.00 kdr in one match.' Despite the obvious weakness of needing to get close, the knife is incredible, in part because the game is so fast. The map design tends towards having a lot of entrances and exits to each discrete part, and everything is tightly packed together, so it wasn't really implausible to just be like SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKERS from a side room. In close quarters the knife is hugely advantaged because it's a one hit kill.

Also because I wasn't shooting as much I tended to not screw up my element of surprise by firing, missing, and getting owned by my target. I chased one dude halfway round Combine before icing him. On top of that I got into a good rhythm of swapping between my rifle and my knife, so I was getting pretty operator. It was fun.

I still can't imagine that I'll buy it, but I think I know I could play online if I did.

So for the Xbox One/PC players here, Activision updated their beta FAQ to indicate when proper beta codes will start rolling out:
Beta Tokens will then be emailed to you from Activision on a rolling basis beginning at approximately 4:00 PM PST on August 25th for Xbox One and PC users. Beta Tokens need to be entered into the code redemption tool on the platform you have designated in the registration process, and will allow you to download the Call of Duty: Black Ops III Beta.

The beta should also be active at that point in time if you have a fast download speed (though obviously you may have issues finding matches. :V )

Double posting since there's a surprise gift for PC players: if you happen to own BLOPS2 or were masochistic enough to own Ghosts or Advanced Warfare, you get access to the BLOPS3 beta automatically.
